Cameras not working - Sony Xperia 5 Questions & Answers

Hi Everyone
My sony X5 (j9210) has issues with the camera.
First the wide angle lens stopped working, when i switched to it i have a black screen and the camera app would crash.
After while all the lenses stopped working besides the front camera, this issue was not only on the stock camera app also on other apps that used my camera.
I registered my phone for reparation under warranty (by a certified sony repair shop) and when I got it back everything worked again like new.
Now a few days later the same issue is appearing, my wide angle lens has stopped working and i'm pretty sure the same thing will happen all over again.
I'm incredibly frustrated and sad about this situation since it was a very expensive phone and i'm afraid this will never get resolved unless i get another phone.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Edit: My phone is running the latest firmware as of now 55.A.1.9.21.
I'm crying for help right now.
Thanks in advance

[HELP] change or repair camera :'(

I have a problem with the rearward camera. Today I was taking a college photo and opened the camera and it looked nothing, everything looks blurry. Arriving home I opened the phone to clean the camera thinking it was dirty, but nothing, everything looks blurry.
A if you take the phone for service of my company, but as we wanted to release the bootloader not accept me even if it still has warranty cell.
I wonder if anyone knows where I can find a new camera module for my phone. It would be a shame to use leave for two months I just have to.
Clarify that the problem has to do with the software already changed ROMs and the problem is the same.
The problem is hardware but can not find any place that sells the camera for refaccion.

My N5 camera now has a dark spot

So I jsut updated my google camera app yesterday and was eager to try any new features and test the camera, when all of a sudden I noticed that there is a dark blemish right in the middle of the screen. I am 100% sure it wasnt there when i bought it, as I did tested it extensively. At first I thought that it was actually a screen defect or that there is a smudge on the lenses.
It appears on every photo, HDR or not. It is best visible on light background. You can check the attached test photo i did.
I am not a huge photography fan, but it does bother me alot knowing that my brand new 2 months old nexus defected. Its rooted ofcourse, so there is no guarantee.
I read somewhere that this is caused by a dust particle inside the camera lenses.
So I just wanted to know whether someone else is suffering from that exact same issue. And if there is an easy way to cope with that problem, e.g. disassembling the lense or forcing air into it :silly:
So, yes, any opinions would be welcome.
Thanks guys
p.s. Also, if anyone else had experienced it, Im curious what case (if any) had they been using? lol I actually noticed the problem after removing and inserting my N5 back into my spigen neo hybrid a couple of times, which is actually quite a challenge. So Im wondering whether that hasnt something to do with it
I wouldn't advise you to open the device up yourself.. You will surely loose warranty if you mess up.
If you think it's a hardware issue then Flash the factory images from Google to return to stock
, reset the tamper flag, lock the bootloader and send it in..

Yep, I can confirm the same experience as you! Only appeared yesterday! I have the Rev11 Hardware.
A bit of googling did reveal others with the same issue...
I have tried a can of compressed air, tapping phone...No joy, it's still there...
I have also tried different camera apps to confirm. Interestingly it was post updating the google camera app too. (but i do not believe this too be the root cause, I've had many specs of dust in my DSLRs before and to appears to me to be dust on the rear of the lens or on the sensor!) I would expect these to be sealed on our phones!
RMA, warranty...are looming...any other ideas peeps?
Cheers

I tried the tapping trick too - did not work for me either
I'm still contemplating over the idea of reverting to stock, locking the bootloader and sending in my faulty unit. It would probably take a couple of weeks and I don't want to part ways with my N5 for so long. But living with that nasty blemish on my camera is equally frustrating
I'm going to try this.

I had this issue a few months back; the image you posted looks identical to the issue I had.
Google covered it under warranty and sent me a new device. They asked me to do a full factory reset to confirm it wasn't software related. The process was pretty smooth: if they do send you a new device, you just send your N5 back once it comes so you're not stuck without a phone for a while or anything. They do put a hold on your credit card for the price of the phone until they get your phone, though.
I had it rooted and everything prior to sending it in, but I unrooted/reset the tamper flag before sending it in (and did a factory reset obviously).
I have the same problem but with Nexus 5x. Not 100% sure was the dark spot in the middle at the beginning or not. Now the device is about a week old.

Rear camera focusing problem

Hi to all!
I'm experiencing a weird issue with then main rear camera, not the wide one...and the problem is that the camera most of the times refuse to focus properly the scene, resulting in a blurry photo.
As you can see on the attached photos, i've just taken a random shot opening the camera app, touch to focus and then shoot...with a blurry one.
Then...i've done a weird thing: just tapped with my fingers close to the camera lens, taken another shot...and then camera focused properly the scene...
I've cleared cache of the camera app, reset settings of camera app...went into safe mode and taken many other shots...with the focus problem that was present on two of almost 6/7 shots...
The phone it's less than a month old...and taken a little hit near my desk, but nothing dangerous or dramatic...could be this the cause?
Anyone can help?
I am also facing focus problems
When trying to focus nearby subjects it won't focus at all. Tried testing it alongside an S10 and the S10 got into focus without any effort, but my S10e did not even properly focus objects 10cm away. Wonder if it is a software issue or a hardware one.

In my experience, close objects was focused properly...but distant objects/scenes/landscapes was absolutely like an oil paint...completely distant from what advertised by Samsung and tested in many and many reviews.
Seems like an hardware issue, i really don't think it depends by a software glitch...

Having the same issue with an S10E bought in Australia.
Tried everything: clear cache and reset app, even a full reset did not work.
I've just installed the June's update and the touch focus is no go.
Have you had any improvements since you've posted this issue?

Yes.
Simply had to return the phone to Samsung repair center and asked for a replacement.
They tried first to repair the camera, which obviously didn't worked, then gave me a new phone.
End of story. As I expected, an hardware issue.

Do you know if Samsung tried to change the camera module or the hardware problem is elsewhere ?
I've left the country where I bought it and I'm pretty sure there is no international warranty, so my only option is to buy a new cam module.

Yes, they've tried to change camera module at first, but the problem isn't there, I think there was something related to the mechanism of the automatic lens aperture which maybe it's not only depending by the camera module (don't know if I was clear on that).
But, honestly, for a phone oly 15 days old, they just have to change the phone, not try to repair and maybe try again before the replacement.

stock camera apps bugged?

hello guys,
so i just bought this zenfone 6 several days ago,
i noticed the problem with the flip camera, each time i switched to selfie mode, camera flip up and says camera cannot flip, so the camera position is in selfie position, but the image is inverted.
i tried 3rd party apps like gcam and open camera , it still shows camera cannot flip, but the image is not inverted.
any thought on this? i already run the camera calibration.
thanks before.

Are you using a screen cover or protective glass?

hi jis, thanks for the reply,
i didnt use any cover or protective glass.
this morning i brought the device to the service center and they said it was the camera motor problem.
strangely, if i managed to hold the camera a bit before it fully flipped, the image isn't inverted, i guess this is a temporary fix until the new motor parts from the service center come.

If I understand you correctly, you say that the service center wants to repair the motor of the device. Frankly speaking, I would not accept this but would demand either a completely new phone or a refund. I don't think it is a good idea to have a new device opened and tinkered around with just after I bought it. I would expect it to be functional completely. In fact, you are losing value right away if they repair it. (just my opinion)

Broken camera

Looking for help, I replaced the LCD screen on my note 20 ultra now the front selfie camera will not come on when I try it says warning camera failed.
The replacement that I bought came with the frame the front camera and the LCD screen everything works as normal as it should except for the camera the camera worked fine before I put the new LCD screen in. Little research and supposedly possibly the camera I got with the new screen was the international variant I have the Snapdragon note 20 ultra and was told those cameras are not compatible with the US version so I bought a US version camera and put it in still doesn't work I've done everything I can think of soft restarts restart in a safe mode only thing I haven't done is a factory reset I don't know how that would fix it but is that an option? I was also told to take my old camera and put it in with the new frame which I would have done had I'd known beforehand and thrown everything away so that camera is gone I figured hey I got a new camera why use the old one right? Any help or ideas would be gratefully appreciated I've made sure the connections are good in the phone I've checked several times like I said everything is fine except for the front camera
I just got done doing a screen/frame replacement on a Note 20 Ultra. I purchased a international unit, and the same thing happened to me. I just swapped over the original camera, and it worked fine. I believe Samsung paired the front camera on the Note 20. You're more than likely going to have to have it paired again. With Samsung releasing their parts through Ifixit soon, you maybe able to get that part working.
