Color OS7 launchers? - Oppo Reno Ace Questions & Answers

With color OS7 and Android 10 being out now publicly(?) Has anything come about for changing the stock launcher, messenger, etc? It seems that these oppo phones aren't all too popular as these forums have nearly nothing compared to what I see for other devices I've had. I don't know anything about modding myself so keep hoping to find guides here to make this phone just that much better!

I had to give up using this phone because I was stuck using the stock launcher and even the stock messaging app! Third party messaging apps would ask for my authentication with the Oppo 'heytap' account password every time I sent or received a text!!! These were complete software deal breakers, which is rare... I wish there was some development on this device as it's very similar to a OnePlus 7T and I got it cheaper than one!

[Q] Thinking about getting WP7 mobile

hi im thinking about getting a hd7 with windows phone 7 and being a ex android user am thinking of something different so got a few random questions that have probably been asked a few thousand times.
1. wp7 looks a bit plain in general lots of text etc, can any kind of a background be added by options or a dev firmware.
2. can normal aps be found e.g a full working facebook application with chat etc, or just its own built in offering
3. what would you prefer android or wp7
4. is this best on market or have i missed some newer ones (uk)
5. anything good you can do with wp7 worth telling me
thanks all who help its appreciated
1. No backgrounds, but if your into customizations, there is a thread all about that
2.Lots of apps out there. You can search the marketplace through several online places and check them out, Google it...
3. I prefer wp7, others prefer Android, sone prefer IOS, some like wm6.5
4.I like the focus by Samsung, the LG is interesting because it has MFG
5.It works, no tinkering required, it does what I need it to do really well. Your experience may vary considering what you "need" it to do and where you live.

For the OP's benefit, the Samsung Focus is the US model - the UK model is the Samsung Omnia 7 (which I have and really like).

many thanks for the reply, sorry been trying to get some users pointers - fed up of android - seen one seen a million handsets running the same - plus i felt why should i have to keep modding it to fix basic problems. but th\ts off topic lol.
1. shame on backgrounds kinda odd. any specific thread or search terms or anything you reccomend i look at
2. thanks will have a google on that
4 whats MFG?
5. nice to know no tinkerings required, kinda highlights what i said about android
thanks for your help, its appreciated
1. WP7 has rather big icons, so don't wory, you will not miss background after that.

[Misc] future of android.

Would like to start a general discussion here.
Would it be a good idea if Google only use android on their own ( Motorola) hardware?
Take this as current state and not the changes in ice cream.
Currently android is a mess 6 versions of the the os in the market.
Three main ones app makers have to support.
I love aosp so I use cm7 as I missed the nexus one and the nexus s didn't have an SD card.
I have tried touchwiz on a galaxy s. Sense on a hero and desire HD. Motoblur on a dext and defy.
They add nothing all they do is slow down the phone and updates.
Why do company's feel the need to add old ui's ( most are ported from older model phones)
Something I miss from my iphones was updates on all devices as the same time, no waiting around for a manufactor to mess around with it,then a network to spoil it even more, then for me to get it after a slow roll out.
So maybe android needs to take a look at ios and think why do app devs like it more? Why do normal users like it more?( XDA users are not normal users)
I would like one of three things to happen.
1- all android phones are aosp.
2- added UI are installable as an option not bundled into the phone.
3- Google to only release phones for purity.
Would like to see peoples thoughts on this.
And also if you like a UI why do you like it? what do you think it adds?
I repair things I am not a writer so hope its coherent enough to get the jist.

HTC, Samsung, Moto, etc... they put those UIs on to dumb down the OS. Make it simple. Simple sells.
Simple UI plus a Powerful OS = great sales!
But sense adds even more settings and more to the lockscreen more everything.
Motoblur seems to need a blur account then you need your Google account for market.
Not that simple to me.
Touchwiz just seems to change things not add or take away.

All of those make it simple. How do you add to the lock screen on stock Android?

What makes apple so "great" in most customers eyes is the simplicity. I love android just for the fact that there are so many ways time customize it it's ridiculous. Example: apple had to release almost 5 generations of the iPhone just to try to keep up with the android.

Not sure I agree with that.
Android only really took over apple when android got to 2.2( not everyone even has that yet)
Ios is very rock soil and before ios4 didn't really crash on me. I have only started noticing problems since ios4.
And with the customization with our phones there is a limit to what you can theme on stock rom without root.
Installing cydia on ios devices you get loads of themes and changes some of them are even better then android visually.

Are you sure ^ ? 2.2 - 2.3 is on 85% of Android devices right now.
Let's keep in mind that all these companies need to distinguish themselves from their competition. Consider all the competing phones based on, say, the ARM A8 platform. With similar core hardware under the hood running the same underlying OS, the interface is simply the best place to make a given model noticeably distinct to the average consumer.
Google may not be thrilled with platform fragmentation, but I'd wager that the various royalties / licensing fees / brand recognition opportunities / whatever more than make up for it. Going full-turtle would be bad business. Just my 2 cents...

So true.
Also, Google, Moto, Sammy, and HTC don't fight back enough with carriers, mainly Verizon, against bloat. Verizon would probably say "To hell with Android then" if they did, since they don't have as much leverage as the iPhone and Apple.
Jazz is also right. If every manufacture had stock on their phones, you wouldn't know which to choose since there would be no difference. Only buyers, like us, that actually care about the speed of a phone, and the ram and rom and all that jazz would know the differences, but average users wouldn't. Hell, my sister, who is only 21, doesn't understand the difference between a Droid and an Android phone, she assumes that every phone that runs Android is a Droid...like my aunt's Evo. (lol)
I actually like Sense, especially Sense 3.5. I think it makes Android look a little nicer, especially if you don't want to root or use custom roms. Touchwiz is also kinda nice, but it's really just the launcher that is changed. Blur is a piece of doodoo though. Can't even install the Facebook app onto my X2 because of Blur's useless Facebook integration that works like hell. Tells me everything I don't want to know, and nothing that I do.
I seriously don't see the point of bloat anyways. If the app is already installed on my phone and I never use it, what is the difference between that and it not being on my phone entirely. If I wanted the dang app, I would've clicked the Verizon tab in the market and downloaded VCast or VMusic. Best answer is probably that Verizon has some stupid person in HR or whatever deciding on what is preinstalled on the phone, instead of the actual consumer. (Then again, I don't see the point in a Facebook phone as well..)
Thanks

[Q] ADVICE? WP7 to Android ... Again :'( / :)

Well as I stated in another forum, A recent move from NY to NC has basically rendered my Unlocked UK HTC Titan useless, Had 3G up there and good service and now all I get it Edge and my house has horrible reception, 95% of the time I get no bars, and AT&T reluctantly decided to help (after non stop calling and *****ing at them, as well as in store & a call to a very nice corporate lady ) I was given a Microcell free of charge, that thing is a whole nother issue, but basically it wont work anyways because I need my phone to grab 3G to make the Microcell to work, so AT&T offered me a new phone and I got the Nokia Lumia 900, loved it, very nice phone, but after the titan, just too small... so i took it back. Plus at the time the 3G Microcell wasnt working anyways so there was no difference in havoing the Nokia or the Titan, and i prefer my titan. Now we got the Microcell working, and I still have an early upgrade available to me, so now its time to get a new phone I guess . Now youre probley saying, why not get the AT&T Titan? Well they wanna charge me $199.99 for it because my upgrade is only available in store and they dont have the Titan 1 in stores anymore. Titan 2? Well call me picky, but I hate the curved glass and the bubble back, just cant force myself to use it. Lumia 900? Had it, liked it, but too small.
Now I'm considering Android again, I hacked my HD2 back in the day to Android and hated it, Had another Android phone when I first got AT&T and hated it, not because it worked ****ty or anything, But because the UI is ugly. I've been hooked on WP7 since I took Android off my HD2 and slapped WP7 on it, the live tiles and stuff are great and the facebook integration are nice. But as much as I stand by WP7 and love it, lets be honest, the app selection and stuff doesnt hold up to Android (at least not yet) so Android does appeal to me. And once another beautiful up-to-date WP7 device hits the market, I'm sure I'll snag it and switch back to WP7.
But I'm looking at the Samsung Galaxy Note, When I first saw it, I was intrigued for sure, But turned off by Android, BUT as a freelance Illustrator who doesa almost 80% of his Biz on his phone, I cant deny the possiblities of the Note, just for customer samples and references and stuff, I've watched tons of videos on the phone and so far all great reviews and I guess you gewt used to the size i got used to 4.7 pretty fast, and now theres no going smaller than 4.7, so if I go 5.3 that might be hard to transition back to a smaller phone (Kind of scares me, considering most phones are 4.7 and under) So I figure if I'm gonna go Android, It HAS to be the Note, just for the drawing capabilities and Screen size. Still unsure about if I'm gonna switch, because Im not really sure about all that Android has to offer, or that phone as a whole.
How many comparable options does Android have to WP7?
Such as:
Facebook to Contact Integration.
Hotmail/Live Support
Customization
etc.
Just wanted o know what you all though and any advice for the switch or anything.
Im an avid WP7 fan, and I know theres avid Android fans, so I'm calling everyone to help me out.
At this point I'm kinda between a rock and hard place, no eye popping WP7 phones I want, and the Note appeals to me for my biz and pleasure (Big multimedia user, games/apps/movies/music) and to be honest, I've been using WP7 since almost day one, and with no huge moves forward, Ive found myself kinda bored with WP7 (Just need WP7 to start picking their game up on apps and customization and Im re-sold) so maybe trying Android again I'll be happy, at least it'll keep me occupied for a little bit.
Any advice/help?
Thanks.

Moving to Q&A
WP7 has unbeatable Facebook to contacts integration, although Sense does a pretty good job (well, at least in this category alone )
You say the UI of Android is ugly, but the beauty of Android is that there are so many different things to choose from, so there isn't a standard 'UI'. My advice would be to simply go back to the HD2 and flash all the different Android ROMs you can find, and experience them. Flash an AOSP ROM, a TouchWiz ROM, a Sense ROM, a MIUI ROM, the Xperia Arc ROM, a CM9/AOKP ROM, they're all available for the HD2. In order to enhance the user experience of Android (although I personally feel ICS doesn't need it at all) try using some of the apps by the GO Dev team. There were some issues surrounding them a while ago but I really have no clue what they were and I've never experienced any of them. The best apps to use to enhance Android are (IMO):
GO Launcher
GO SMS Pro
GO Dialer/Contacts
GO Keyboard (with Swype and even an option to have the WP7 keyboard sound )
Dolphin browser HD
Launcher7 if you're having WP withdrawal symptoms
Don't forget either that the Galaxy Note is a tonne more powerful than the HD2, so any lag you feel probably won't exist on the Note.
I actually agree with you in some ways though, I feel WP7 has a superior UI and stuff but not enough apps. However, I most certainly wouldn't ever class Android as having an 'ugly' UI.

I´m wondering if the Honor 8 is the right phone for me

Hey Guys,
I bought the Honor 8 and I´m super happy with it.
BUT
Why is there almost no custom rom support?
Is Honor holding back on the kernel source?
I´m a little bit worried that (like on my last phone redmi note 2) there will be no good custom roms
and in the end I´m stuck with a phone that will no longer be updated ....
Don´t get me wrong, I dont want to complain, I`m just worried because 350$ is a lot of money for me and I´m looking for a phone that will be (software wise) up to date for at least 3 years. (with custom roms, like CM14 etc)
So, should I return it or should I keep it?
Thanks in advance!
Gecko
there will be rom development but it will be slow as there are no sources to fix bugs or get things working properly
if you really wanted custom roms, you shoulve picked a snapdragon device,
i cant say its not gonna have a good custom rom support, but all i can say is huaweis kirin is not completely open sourced, and even if it will be opened, it is not as flexible as snapdragon..
for a better clearification, go on and have a look at honor 7 or 6 forums,,
I bought this phone about 3 weeks ago. At first I was excited at how beautiful it was, hardware-wise, and simply told myself I'd get used to the software. Fast forward to now and I wish I would have went with a Pixel or even Sony device.
Even on the stock ROM certain things don't work, such as Accessibility Settings for LastPass password App Fill, adding VCard info to your contacts list won't work/sync to the cloud, and the stock Huawei apps that you can't uninstall annoyingly keep asking for permissions. There are more that I forgot to mention but I miss having everything just work in vanilla Android. Sadly, custom ROM support is buggy and is stuck at Marshmallow.
That said, here's what I like:
- PRICE. Can be found for just under $300 now
- much faster than my Nexus 5X
- swipe left/right on the home button shrinks the screen to give easy thumb access to the top of your app (similar to what iOS does)
- there's a Power Hungry app notification which let's you easily close battery draining apps
- fast fingerprint unlock, and you can use the sensor as a button
- though EMUI generally lags behind AOSP, Huawei did a great job making it look sleek even though they borrowed a ton from iOS
I'm going to look into returning it at Best Buy. Once you go stock Android it's hard to get used to anything else (aside from Sony's light touches), and I don't think I can live with this device until next November.
Thank you for all your answers.
I think I´m gonna go with redmi note 3 pro international version

Good choice better rom support

LG Q6 first Android phone, Apple fanboy here.

Hello,
I won an LG Q6 phone from a company raffle last year and I just received it today. And I'm lovin' Android. Being an Apple fan ever since iPhone 5 was launched, well it's something different and new. Though, I have no idea how to completely wipe off the device and to install the OS fresh from start just like what I do with iOS. I don't know where to get the latest version every of Android which is Oreo. Right now, I believe I am under the Android Nougat.
I am a mac user, so good thing there's an LG app to update my phone. But just to update my phone though. I am happy with the apps, they're faster than my iPhone 6 Plus. Right now, I am still waiting for the availability of the iPhone X. Though, I have two choices that my phone company has aside from iPhone X. It's either a Samsung Note 8 or a Samsung S8. Seriously, the functionality of apps in Android blew me away, beginning from FB's bubble thingy though annoying, but it's amazing. Even the alarm clock has a feature to draw a pattern before turning it off. And the control center really is an actual control center.
Moving forward, may you please help me out with this? Decision stuff, and with the cyanogen thingy though I do not look forward to root my device, maybe after the warranty expires, it's like jailbreak thingy right? How about just by using the official releases the OS from the manufacturer? I am a bit familiar with this as I used to update the firmware of my Sony Ericsson W800i before and my BlackBerry Curve too.
I'll be waiting for the reply of everyone. Also, I prefer using macOS. Yet, I think I really prefer to use Android as my phone. Seriously. Though I hope it integrates well with my mac.
Another thing, I would like guides about cases for Android phones and screen protectors, as well as memory card guides (don't have this on iOS devices).
Thanks.
Go for the Note mate and never look back
