Pressing the power button twice launches the default camera app. Is there a way to remap the power button to launch a different app, such as a Gcam camera app?
I've been lookin through the settings and options, and I've been playing with Tasker, but no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Isn't it asking for default camera app?

No, it just goes straight into com.android.camera.
I tried removing the screen lock, in case that opened up an option to set the default camera, but no such luck.

Hm okay, you could try to rename the package names haha
But I'm not sure if it's working then

Does anyone have an idea yet? This device seems fine apart from the FB button and it would great if it could be changed.
no idea with the FB-Button ?
I can't believe that the FB button is not user assignable. I don't actually own one of these phones but I am very interested (as I love physical keyboards)
I'd rather it be a Google+ button! or maybe control the camera or something that's actually useful.
Not sure, but you can disable it or switch to camera.
You need to be rooted
Install rootexplorer app or similar
go to: /system/usr/keylayout/
tap mount r/w
edit chacha-keypad.kl
put a # in front of 184 HTC_SHARE to disable it or change HTC_SHARE to CAMERA
save
then switch back r/o
then reboot
(if you switch to camera, you need to long press fb button for camera)

Cheers mate!
Thanks a lot, it worked like a charm. Now I need to see which shortcut should I assign it to (not using the camera that much as I have a DSLR ).
I'm gonna try this later

Hi, I think if we had a way to change it so it can access any application (not just the camera) would be more 'productive' and a whole lot cooler (Twitter, Skype, Google+). Then you could purchase customizable same size stickers to give it a more 'refreshing' look.

Yes, change it to POWER. I haven't tried it yet but it should work. (try long press)
So:
# column 4
key 184 CAMERA - works with long press
haven't tried
key 184 POWER

If you change line 184 to POWER you can only power off, you can not wake it up
Try WAKE_DROPPED and check if that one works.

NOPE! Doesn`t work and DON`T try it, I messed up my keyboard, now some letters don`t work
I put back CAMERA and everything is back to normal
Hmm, weird.. Sorry for that then.. I'll perform some tests and check to see which command is the correct one. I presume you rebooted the phone after you changed the file, right?

Yes I did...
I also noticed some odd behavior, when I try to set the WAKE_DROPPED parameter to assign the "screen wake" capability to other keys than the power button.
Let's say for example, that I added WAKE_DROPPED next to HTC_SHARE in the .kl file & I rebooted properly.
Then the screen will sometimes wake up when I press the FB key...but sometimes, never. The behavior seems completely random.
Also noticed the same behavior when trying to enable WAKE_DROPPED for other keys such as END_CALL for example.
My rom : default sense from latest OTA
Version : 1.54.401.2
S-OFF+ Root + CWM installed
azerty keyboard
I still have to look into this but time is not on my side, once again.
+ I'm using SuperOSR and CM builds and QWERTY layout.

Yes, this is possible even on unrooted devices.

Actually this is not random...
The Chacha CPU is sleeping most of the time when screen is off, even Wifi is turned to max saving and prevents to receive data. Only some internal events wakes CPU up. And it wakes up on few seconds some times to times, to allow gmail sync and other things. It can stay up to several minutes without waking up.
In case the Chacha CPU is sleeping no key except the power button can wake it up.
In case the CPU is in wake up state, which is not often when screen is off, some other buttons can turn back the screen on.
As example, most of the time, right after screen turns off, you can turn back screen on with call button within 5 seconds or less, but later, only power button can because CPU went to sleep.
Just pointing out that the double power button press that opens the camera by default can also be applied to Snapchat... If your a Snapchat user like me you know how important taking a fast picture can be
You mean double power button?

Double tap power is assigned to whatever the right side lock screen shortcut is, or whatever your default camera is set to while in stock config. So I could set my camera shortcut to my calendar, calculator, or whatever app I wanted if the rom supports changing those shortcuts.

Very true! This is a powerful shortcut... Its not just for Snapchat
Silly question. I like to launch my camera from my lockscreen using the double press power button shortcut. If I remember it correctly, it used to unlock my phone, so I could take pictures instantly. But since the latest OxygenOS build, I always have to unlock my phone to open the camera after doublepressing power. Not sure if it has to do with the latest build or if I changed a setting somewhere.
Does anyone know if there is any to fix this behaviour?
Working here. It doesn't unlock the phone per say, just the camera. I'm guessing you have it turned in in settings, settings>buttons & gestures>quickly turn on camera.

Yeah, I have it turned on. If my phone is unlocked, it works like a charm.
Yeah, it's not a full unlock, just the camera app. I can launch the camera app without unlocking from the homescreen by swiping the lower right corner. But the doubletap power button doesn't work. It does open the camera, because as soon as I unlock, the camera app is open and ready to shoot.
Same problem here on 10.0.2 for me... Any fix?
I use swipe gestures to open camera from lock screen...I like to use the letter V and it works great on 10.0.2
I use the letter O for the flashlight.

Yup, gestures work like a charm. Doubletapping power button doesn't.
This is for my wifes phone, we both have S21+5G devices. Her phone will launch the camera when pressing the side power button to wake the device. It does not happen every time but probably a 50/50 chance the device will show the lockscreen correctly vs launching the camera app.
Any thoughts on where to turn this off or what is causing it?
In settings search up

Thanks, I looked and the double click/tap for camera option was checked. I am pretty sure we are not double clicking the side key but I unchecked it anyway and will see if the behavior stops.
Yea so i have played with the side key settings and the device is still being weird opening the camera, maybe it's haxxed. I will try to get the phone factory reset and hope it clears up.
so when i use 3 button navigation and i repeatedly press back or home button from an app it just shows for a split second a ghost image of the app i was in. a screen recording is attached as well.

Do you have any Magisk modules installed that could conflict with systemUI?
If not, have you installed any apps that require root access/adb commands to work properly? (eg. systemui tuner)

no nothing of that sort. i don't even have root on this and i dont have any apps that require adb commands. do you have the same issue on your end? try repeatedly tapping home/ back button on your pixel and let me know if you have the same issue.
I'm setup for no button/gestures atm with magisk & the aosp module which gives me mostly total control over gestures. If u ever want to try out root, now's the time...it's easier than ever! Just sayin'...cuz 3 button is prolly lot long for this world. Not only can u micro-manage the UI, you can squeeze approx. 20-30% more battery time outta android...usually. Switched to 3-button just to see...nothin' tho. Watched ur clip...strange indeed.

Luckily, no. I have tried to replicate the issue, doesn't happen my end.
I was having trouble with some apps previously that required adb to work. They would often make my quick settings glitch out, or sometimes have a similar effect when closing apps as what you currently experience.
Try to switch to gesture navigation, do a cold reboot, then switch back to 3 button?

What is it that you'd be looking for in a screen recording? I have no input lag when touching the home/back button, and there's no laggy animation for the app minimizing.

well i would just like you to send a screen recording of you REPEATEDLY pressing home button on different apps and third party apps. you may not have any input lag because you only press the home button once not repeatedly, so please.
