Camera Button Anyone?

Hi I was just wondering if there was any way of setting a button eg. the Back or Hangoff button , to work as the photo capturing button only in the camera mode? and be able to work as it normally does whenever im doing something else~ thx

this new app will allow you to remap the key you want to use. You will have to remap it to emulate Enter. It allows you to use this mapping for example only when the camera is turned on, it's really cool app

In the keyboard config app go to Menu > Add key
Press key you want to remap
Near the Rule field there is a plus sign, click it.
Then follow the instructions, capturing via stylus works great, you just have to launch camera and then put stylus back in.
The app will create a new rule and the mapping will work only when camera is opened.

It's not entirely correct what you write. I already had that app to remap keys and it works great, didn't think I could use it to emulate enter and map it to my camera. So I did what you wrote but that didn't work. I've figured it out now and here is how I've done it:
1 - Open the remap application
2 - Press key you want to remap
3 - Near the Rule field there is a plus sign, click it.
4 - Then follow the instructions, capturing via stylus works great, you just have to launch camera and then put stylus back in.
5- Event = Click
6 - Action = Emulate key press
7 - Key = Enter
8 - Click ok
9 - Click update config
Now when I click the "end key" the camera takes a picture. This works way better then having to click on the screen itself because it doesn't matter how soft or careful you click the screen, the picture is always a bit blurry of kinda like out of focus.

i figured out that i needed to first set the 'back' key to defalut key action this allows it to work as usual whenever im doin something else, then add another funtion to the 'back' key to allow it to emulate enter only during camera ^^ if i didnt do the first step the 'back' key is just nothing when the camera isnt on ~

Glad you figured that out. I didn't tell you that because I asumed that you just wanted to use the end key as "enter" for your camera and not as "to close a program".
I've set it to click = enter for the camera and long press give me the options to lock the phone and so on....

I don't know of a patch for that yet, but I'm sure it's possible.
If we had CyanogenMod for the Charge, it would be baked into the ROM.

I would like to see this. possibly even disable the quick press options of the power button and reassign them to another combination. I hit the button all the time trying to do other things on the phone and then I get locked out and have to redo my pattern etc.

Widgetlocker app can do this for you.

Using Root Explorer or possibly Estrongs file explorer:
>Go to system>usr>keylayout>s3c-keypad.kl
>modify key 50 to look like this: HOME WAKE_DROPPED
>Then reoboot
Now home key wakes device!
UPDATE: Seems after it is asleep for a period of time it won't wake it anymore, have to work this out.

What application do we use to edit the value? A text editor? What do you suggest?

I use Root Explorer Long press open in text editor,
I think you can do the same with estrongs file explorer.

Sorry for the unnecessary request. I see it is in the other post.

It seems as though the front keypad module is not active once it goes completely to sleep, there for won't wake it.
If someone can figure this out, it will work just fine.

Definite thanks for looking into it. I'll try the app that bill mentioned and see if it makes a difference. I haven't yet rooted so I don't think I can do your version yet even if it works.

Are suggesting this because you have this on your Droid Charge and it is currently working correctly?
The reason I ask, is I tried a couple weeks back and could not get it working correctly.

I have it on my Charge. It works intermittently. I found that if the phone is asleep for a little while it usually does not work... occasionally it does work but no consistent pattern.
I'm also looking for a better fix than the app.
Suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The same thing happens when you just modify the key mapping, it's because the front keypad module is off when the phone sleeps.
So if it could be activated at all times that would fix it, but I imagine it may have some side effects to battery life.

This will disable the lock screen for good. After you do this fix you can wake up the Droid by briefly pressing the power button and it will go immediately to the home screen without any lock screen madness.
Go to Dialer and enter *#83786633, then press the home key
Go back into the Dialer, clear those numbers, then *#22745927
Now a screen will appear asking for the SPC Code, enter 000000
Press the Hiddenmenu Enable radio button, then press home button
To disable the lock screen (and power down pop up), go back into the Dialer and use the code *#7594#, select Shutdown and press the Home button. This, I have confirmed, does work on the Charge.

I try agilelock, wiget locker, lockbot pro... but no program work ... It work when I plug in usb or changer... When i plug out, I can't use volum key to wake up..

I believe its cause USB and charger doesn't really put the phone to sleep. It's still awake even if screen is off. However all those lock screen apps you tried will put phone to sleep.
Download an app called NoLock and give it a try. That'll remove the keyguard, but some people have discovered it also allows the phone to wake up from Volume Keys.
Technically, if your phone can wake up from volume keys, it can wake up from the 3D key too.

Have any mod about wake up by volum key? (wake up from sleep).. I search and found a lot of mod to do that (other device, my Optimus can't install ...)

Nolock don't work, i can't use volum or 3D key to wake up or unlock...

If you still haven't got it there's an app in the market called magic locker. I'm using it to wake the phone using the volume keys.

I have installed the "Magic lock main" it just work within 01 minute when I sent my phone go to sleep, after 1minute I not work, I must used the power button to wake my phone up.
Please help me How to config the setting, I also used "Go lunch EX".

Not quite what you guys are looking for but if you go to /system/usr/keylayout and open omap_keypad.kl scroll down and by key 249 3d_hot_key space over and add "wake" (you will see when you open the file just make it line up) you can use the 3d button to wake the phone up.

Well if you use GO launcher EX you should test Go locker.
Enable Go locker and in setup take "Emergency unlock" on use.
It let you unlock phone by pressing volume button up or down for few seconds,
if thats the "wakeup" what you are finding for?

I using Go locker and turn on Emergency Unlock, at 30s after lock phone, it works, after that is not..

Good it isn't quite the option you guys were looking for but still glad it works I am finding it pretty convienient uit.edu follow what anduios said. All you have to do is space over add in wake and you are good to go. Should wake phone up no matter how long it has been idle.

Is 3D button still work? For launching 3D space and other functions?

Yeah it is still set to open 3d space all you are doing is adding the wake function to the button. You don't remove anything you just space over and add wake. You will see what I mean when you open the file. The button should work as usual plus add the ability to wake phone.
What is really odd is that the vol keys actually have the wake function set just doesn't work.

Easy way
1) open root explorer
2) go to /system/usr/keylayout
3) press the "mount r/w" button in top right
4) long press on omap-keypad.kl
5) scroll down on menu and choose "open in text editor"
6) scroll all the way down to bottom
7) at "key 249 3D_MODE" space over until cursor is lined up with the word wake on line above
8) type in "wake" make sure it is lined up with column above either add spaces or delete them to line it up
9) reboot phone
10) wake phone with 3d button

Home offscreen button during typing

Is anybody else having this issue? I am coming from Galaxy S4, where the home button is actual physical button, so there I didn't have any issues, but with OPO, when typing, many times when I try to hit spacebar, it hits the top of the Home button. Before it comes up, I do not want to use on screen buttons, I like the size of the screen and don't want it up with software buttons.
I was wondering if anyone has/could write a script to set the buttons to

Because i currently am running CM12 i can't give exact insturctions but it should be somewhere in settings -> buttons -> ? over there you should be able to give the buttons other values. It is something like menu button: recent apps switcher and if you press that you can change it to a few other things. If this doesn't fill your needs, ask a bit more around I know it is there, because i saw it once.

Yes it is there, but the option for "Home Short Press" is not there, that is hard coded. At least on the ROM I run (LiquidSmooth)

What I need to know is this:
Which key mapping is for Short Press Home, Long Press Home and Long Press Menu. I am within /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl to adjust the mapping manually, but can't seem to find the correct mapping for those 3.

Ok, so found the key for Home and that is 172, but that disables both the short and long press...

Unfortunately can't install Xposed as it tells me that my device does not support it. Is there one specifically built for us?
I get this error :
Xposed is not (yet) compatible with Android SDK Version 21 or your processor architecture (armeabi-7va).

Thank you for the link, unfortunately still doesn't work. Same error. I think it is because the ROM I am using is LP and LP uses ART instead of Dalvik and XPosed doesn't work with that. Thank you though for the effort

Yes, ART is the problem.

So I came up with a solution for this issue.
The file in question to be working with is /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
Navigate to this file using a File Browser (Root Explorer is the one I use) that has access to Root and make sure you have R/W rights.
Edit the file above in a text editor > find line : "key 139 MENU" and change it to "key 139 HOME" > and then find line : "key 172 HOME" and change it to "key 172 MENU" > Reboot device for it to take effect after you save
Then, within Settings > Buttons, you can adjust (at least on the ROM I am on), the long and short press of the Menu button.
What comes out is: left button is HOME button, with short/long press actions, middle button is MENU with just long action (set short action to NONE), and right button is BACK button untouched.
This way if I am typing, and want to hit space bar, accidentally hitting the middle button will not bring me to the main screen. It will take a while to get used to it, but it does resolve my issue.

I managed to disable the back button by going to /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl and adding # in front of key 139 menu and key 158 back but the recents button still works after rebooting. This was the old method when the left button was a menu not recent apps button. Which button number is for recents?

You can do that with an app from Play Store. The app is called All in one Gesture. It allows you to change actions on all keys on your phone. It worked for me.

That screen look a bit different on my S6. Did you activated it when it asked for it? When you first started it did it asked you for something?

I just did this myself. I made the same mistake as you did, such that the recent key/button was still operational. I then realized that it's not a menu button, but it's an app switcher function, hence "recent". Under "# samsung", there should be "key 254 APP_SWITCH". That's the one to disable the app switcher key or "recents" button.
Hope this helps out anyone out there looking for this.

Dont root the phone. Take it to samsung for warranty claim when you get a chance.
They should be held accountable for the defect. Good luck.

Just to verify, do you have any type of case on the phone, and if so, does the button do the same thing if you remove the case.
Otherwise, Rakcoon is correct. They should fix it under warranty.

THe best way to do is, add: qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 in build.prop, reboot and done.
There is another way to do is: Disable the hardware/back keys through: /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl and add # in front of key 139 menu and key 158. Also add the same to key 254 APP_SWITCH

Thanks to the above listing, I was in the middle of factory resetting my Samsung S6 back to stock (but still rooted) and my physical keys (app switcher and back buttons) wasn't working. I had to go in build.prop and generic.kl and reset them back to default values (e.g., put 1 for the mainkeys value and remove # in front of 158 and 254). Now the physical keys are working.

You are always welcome mate.

If you want to disable the recent button all you have to do is download all in on gesture. There you can disable any button.

i cant find any of these places where the text is used to block these buttons.. build.prop? system-usr??? what do these even mean
