I don't see a physical camera button on my captivate. i was wondering if i can add the option to the power button menu to open the camera. If not, is there an app or way to hold down a volume button or click a certain amount of times to get it to open the camera?
reason i ask is because I have a 19 month daughter and would need to open camera asap to take pictures as they happen.
if this have been covered sorry... ideally i would love to add the option and few more to that power button menu..
thanks
I'd like to see the capability to program all of them for click, double click, triple click, and long press. There is an app for htat for WinMO.
I have a very nice app that adds a lot of that type of functionality, Tasker, but that is not one of them.
I'm going to suggest it. What we may hear is that Android won't allow it. Seems I have bumped my head into that response two or three times, with comment that Android considers it a security issue.
Yes this is what i am looking for. Such as the search button. Replace that with a short cut button to open camera. I wish devs are seeing this. This will be an awesome mod.
arrrghh...
power strip o power control, takes over the search long hold action to come up with widgets and things... So i think the mapping is there.

Just move the camera icon to one of the bottom 4 location. Since you have to unlock the phone before you can start the camera anyway, using the hardware button or clicking the screen make very little different.
You can try using the Widget Locker app. With it I placed the camera shortcut on my lockscreen. Much faster access but not exactly what you are looking for.

I second widget locker. Use it with pure messenger and pure calendar to make the lock screen useful.
Is that FB assignable to a different task or app? I don't use FB.

Does anyone have an idea yet? This device seems fine apart from the FB button and it would great if it could be changed.
no idea with the FB-Button ?
I can't believe that the FB button is not user assignable. I don't actually own one of these phones but I am very interested (as I love physical keyboards)
I'd rather it be a Google+ button! or maybe control the camera or something that's actually useful.
Not sure, but you can disable it or switch to camera.
You need to be rooted
Install rootexplorer app or similar
go to: /system/usr/keylayout/
tap mount r/w
edit chacha-keypad.kl
put a # in front of 184 HTC_SHARE to disable it or change HTC_SHARE to CAMERA
save
then switch back r/o
then reboot
(if you switch to camera, you need to long press fb button for camera)

Cheers mate!
Thanks a lot, it worked like a charm. Now I need to see which shortcut should I assign it to (not using the camera that much as I have a DSLR ).
I'm gonna try this later

Hi, I think if we had a way to change it so it can access any application (not just the camera) would be more 'productive' and a whole lot cooler (Twitter, Skype, Google+). Then you could purchase customizable same size stickers to give it a more 'refreshing' look.

If you change line 184 to POWER you can only power off, you can not wake it up
Try WAKE_DROPPED and check if that one works.

NOPE! Doesn`t work and DON`T try it, I messed up my keyboard, now some letters don`t work
I put back CAMERA and everything is back to normal
Hmm, weird.. Sorry for that then.. I'll perform some tests and check to see which command is the correct one. I presume you rebooted the phone after you changed the file, right?

Yes I did...
I also noticed some odd behavior, when I try to set the WAKE_DROPPED parameter to assign the "screen wake" capability to other keys than the power button.
Let's say for example, that I added WAKE_DROPPED next to HTC_SHARE in the .kl file & I rebooted properly.
Then the screen will sometimes wake up when I press the FB key...but sometimes, never. The behavior seems completely random.
Also noticed the same behavior when trying to enable WAKE_DROPPED for other keys such as END_CALL for example.
My rom : default sense from latest OTA
Version : 1.54.401.2
S-OFF+ Root + CWM installed
azerty keyboard
I still have to look into this but time is not on my side, once again.
+ I'm using SuperOSR and CM builds and QWERTY layout.

Yes, this is possible even on unrooted devices.

Actually this is not random...
The Chacha CPU is sleeping most of the time when screen is off, even Wifi is turned to max saving and prevents to receive data. Only some internal events wakes CPU up. And it wakes up on few seconds some times to times, to allow gmail sync and other things. It can stay up to several minutes without waking up.
In case the Chacha CPU is sleeping no key except the power button can wake it up.
In case the CPU is in wake up state, which is not often when screen is off, some other buttons can turn back the screen on.
As example, most of the time, right after screen turns off, you can turn back screen on with call button within 5 seconds or less, but later, only power button can because CPU went to sleep.
Hi guys,
since I upgraded to P the shortcut on the Lockscreen to open the camera is gone. I can't find anything in the settings to re-enable it.
Any help, please?
Kr, Ralf
It's gone from the lockscreen. You can double press the power button as a camera shortcut. Search settings for "Camera" and go ti the "jump to camera" option and enable it if needed. I've always used the double press of the power button so I didn't miss the lockscreen one.

Thanks for your response.
I know about the double press "gesture", but I don't like it... Sad that the Lockscreen shortcut is gone...a real regression for me, and I can't think of a reason why one would remove such a feature?! Has been there for ages (on other devices, that is...)
Pressing the power button twice launches the default camera app. Is there a way to remap the power button to launch a different app, such as a Gcam camera app?
I've been lookin through the settings and options, and I've been playing with Tasker, but no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Isn't it asking for default camera app?

No, it just goes straight into com.android.camera.
I tried removing the screen lock, in case that opened up an option to set the default camera, but no such luck.

Hm okay, you could try to rename the package names haha
But I'm not sure if it's working then
Hi, anyone know a gesture or a button combination to turn the flash light on and off.
On oneplus 8t, when the screen is off you just draw a the letter "V" to turn the flash light on and off quickly.
Any feature like that on Samsung s22 Ultra without having to unlock the phone?
Go to side key setting in advanced features, There you can use double click on side button to activate flash. Just choose the flash as the app you want to open. As default double click is to quick launch the camera, but you can choose any other app
