Highly unlikely not to have been patched, but try running mtk-su on it and see if you can get a root shell.
Kernel and rom update has been published:
kernel: Fire_HD8_10th_Gen-7.3.1.4-20200514.tar.bz2
rom: Fire HD 8 (10th Generation)
if anyone receives the new HD8 n wanna try rooting, u can download mtk-su by following directions on the first post here
there are a few hands-on reviews: here and here
they like the wireless charging dock n comment that the new tablets are faster. The extra RAM (2x in case of HD8+) certainly helps. But i suspect the lack of swap file (2017) and 100 swappiness default setting (2017 & 2018) have contributed to the slowness in previous gens. those things have been fixed in HD10 2019 so i expect the same in the new HD8 & HD8+
just saw links 2 kernel n ROM been posted on Amazon...unfortunately dat means most likely mtk-su been patched cuz' the un-patched ROM for HD10 2019 was never posted
Fire HD 8 (10th gen, 2020) was launched in quarantine.
I have requested to @Datastream33's Fire toolbox.

Checked that Kernel source includes mtk-su patch, so no luck here. Their patch level, seems similar to the last kernels of the Fire HD10 2019.
the flaw has been patched. i tried with mtk-su but it doesn't work
Lol, 1st thing I did when I got my plus hd8 tablet yesterday was 2 disable all the automatic updates, disabled a bunch of other packages, and installed play store, disabled fire launcher and put nova launcher on, all before connecting to wifi(still on 7.3.1.3), I have learned with all the amazon devices I've had to always do these things 1st, havent tried mtk-su yet, not sure if I will

What method did you use to disable the fire launcher? The toolkit isn't compatible with the 10th gen yet, is it?

The toolkit is really convenient and much faster then doing things manually...but most things the toolkit does can all be done manually via adb and by installing the necessary apks

Can you point me to a place where these useful commands might be or do you just know them by heart? This is my first Fire HD tablet and the launcher is absolutely killing me. Every method I've found so far is either antiquated or yet to be updated. I have the play store and Nova launcher, but I want the home button to take me to Nova, not that god awful Fire launcher.
Edit: I just found this. https://1upnote.me/post/2020/02/install-play-store-amazon-fire-tablet/

There ya go, just looked that site over, it's got everything u need, including the command to disable fire launcher, nice job working it out for urself!
I ordered one of these for my wife and it arrived less than an hour ago. First impression: It didn't fit the case her previous generation tablet was in, but that's OK (it's a replacement for an older model with a cracked screen).
Second impression: The tablet came with OS 7.3.1.3, and Amazon sure didn't make it easy to avoid upgrading automatically to 7.3.1.4. Part of that is on me. I forgot to uncheck the box linking the tablet to my account so as soon as I fired it up it recognized my network and decided it was going to update. Uh-uh, boss, I hurriedly deregistered it (it will go to her account anyway) and after a couple of reboots got the tablet into airplane mode. It is now charging with developer options enabled. I plan to trot out my toolkit in a few minutes, disable OTA updates (if I can) and install the Play Store so I can restore her library app and two favorite games.

You can download AIDA64 on your Fire tablet to check the filesystem will supports ExFat: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.finalwire.aida64
Open AIDA64 -> System Files -> File systems and you can see supports ExFat or not.

Hardware unlock?
Anyone try the hardware unlock method, or was that also deprecated?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd...lock-fire-hd-8-2018-karnak-amonet-3-t3963496/
You can make your own wireless charger for your Fire HD 8+
Requirements:
-> 2n2222 transistor
-> A piece of copper coil (32 gauges or anything, don't use a thicker coil) (you can get it from old electric transformers)
-> Some piece of wires

It is likely that the bootrom is disabled on this. I haven't done any short testing, but using the volume and plug in, I am able to get into mediatek preloader. The same method on on the 10hd (2019) kicks it into bootrom. I think mediatek blocked the bootrom.

HI guys, I have 'This app is not compatible with your device' message on 80% of apps on Market.... I didn't use my tablet for 3 month... it was properly working before
Now market looks different and i cannot download most of the apps.
I've tried to clean Market data, but it hangs, and when I reboot i works but issue still there.
I use Vanilla AOSP
What will be recommended action? Thank you
Give this procedure a try.
Thanks!

Thank you but suggested solution didn't work,
What worker is to update to 1.2, then I flashed GTabCombOver 3.4.2, now market works!
Good to see you sorted your problem. I get this error with the game loft data down loaders, the market let's me install them but the game downloaded gives the the incompatibility BS.
I solved this problem by getting a build.prop editor from the marketplace (should be available to most devices) and copied the settings from my HTC Glacier (MyTouch 4g). I can now download everything my MyTouch can. Some apps have minor problems, but most everything works fine. The only thing I can't d/l is the nvidia games, but I would submit that copying the build.prop settings from a phone that has the nvidia tegra would fix that problem.
I'm running the DRH ICS BETA and it has a built in build.prop editor with various selections to try but none have been successful for me, I even tried using the build.prop from my galaxy nexus but it wouldn't even boot.
change your screen dpi to 160 in the build.prop
Which settings do I change? I have the same problem. Apps that work on my Razr, don't work on here. Both are newspaper/magazine subscriptions.
Also, could the same thing be done to fool the Amazon market to think this is one of their tablets?

That doesn't really make sense. Amazon sold a ton of g-Tablets both via Woot! and Amazon itself. The g-Tablet is well-supported on the Amazon app market.

I meant specifically Kindle Fire Apps. This applies to a couple of news subscriptions that are available for I Pad, Kindle fire, but not generic Android tablets.

I found an answer to this problem. I downloaded what I needed on my Razr, did a complete backup with Titanium pro, copied the appropriate app onto SD card, put into G Tablet and install using Titanium pro. Worked great, that way the Market doesn't have to know what device I am installing this onto. The only problem was a notice that the resolution might be off. however, this was no problem.

I am using Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 (stable mod) and haven't found anything in the play store that I can't install. The only problem is using an older version of Google maps is necessary if you want to use maps. CM7 is fast and sips the battery.

Yes but the best solution is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839871
I have a 7" Proscan PLT7223G, CPU: Rockchip RK2928 1.008Ghz, GPU: Mali-400 MP dual core by ARM running Android jellybean 4.1 with Google Play in it.
(Not letting me post a url, but if you google "PLT7223G manual" you'll get a page where there's a firmware and pdf manual ready to download.)
This is a cheap device (the one I could afford till I buy a better one) that I bought from walmart and I would love to root this device but so far have found no help anywhere on the internet. I know an expensive device has many users and more chances of being rooted, but is it possible to root this fairly obscure one?
I am fairly comfortable with using Android SDK and JDK or any one-click installer.
Can any one help and/or point me to the right direction? It's overwhelmingly info-rich and confusing for an android newbie like me around here :S
I would be super super grateful if anyone can help me root this one.
Thanks guys.

Go here then:
http://www.cydiaimpactor.com/
If you need help installing adb driver try www.snappea.com. Just install on Pc, then when program prompts you connect phone to PC with USB Debugging enabled and it will take care adb driver for you.
I purchased the same tablet PLT-7223G-4K from Woot two weeks ago.
I can confirm that Cydia Impactor will successfully drop SU into /system/xbin. From there, I was able to get a # root prompt in ADB shell and do whatever I pleased. (Thanks to the persons above me for pointing that out, I was getting a little frustrated with this thing.)
I can also say that the generic Google USB Driver will work for connecting to this tablet. I am running Windows 7 SP1 x64 and had just updated the Android SDK prior to trying various methods to root the tablet.
If you need any more specific information, I would be happy to help, since I have the exact same tablet and purchased it for the express purpose of poking it with sticks.
Success!
@Klown80 and @jfmajo Thank you very much! I've successfully rooted the device with cydiaimpactor without a single hitch. Got SU through adb shell and all! . Took less than 5 minutes!

+1 confirm for this method of root.
I've got the PLT7223G-K8G, It also runs on rk2928 This version has a 8gb flash and suppose to be clocked at 1.2ghz (more on that in a sec)
Got this at walmart blackfriday came with a KB case, suppose to be a Christmas present for my sister but I wanted to test it out
before giving it to here, I Just got into android my self 2 week ago.
Anyway I used I ran SRT appguard and it said it was vulnerable to 9695860 & 9950697
I tried detecting device in Cydia Impactor but it just said "requested resource not available" file missing?
So I used this USB driver here: ** Wont let me post links / See attached picture**
Cydia Impactor rooted successfully in about 30seconds, Funny srt appguard was still running and complained but it went thru anyway lol
Installed SU, all is good.
I was running WinXP x64
I could not find a firmware download for my particular model.. although you can find a list here:
** Wont let me post links / See attached picture**
Here's a list of firmwares for the 7223g model line
** Wont let me post links / See attached picture**
Now as for my particular model, I would not have bothered rooting it since it was suppose to be a gift however it has 2 problems.
1. The device is suppose to run at 1.2ghz.. mine is locked to a range of 800-1000 (awesome range huh?)
2. The governor seems to be really messed up.. no matter what type of load I put on it I could not get it to crawl out of 800mhz.
So I rooted to get Cpu tuner installed and working.. So now I've got it properly scaling ot 1ghz but that's still not right.
I've emailed CS but im not expecting much given the price and judging from their poor support on their website.
Debating if this shouldn't just go back to the store.
EDIT: Oh ya one more thing.. These tablets do not have a volume rocker.. just power button.. thought that was kinda on unusual other tablets I've seen all had volume buttons, I know that's usually how you boot them up into recovery.
EDIT2: LOL Well, dont bother emailing support.. I've tried twice both times bounced back fialure to deliver.
First time I thought it was because of the screen shot I attached, but 2nd one came back also.
Takes about a day for it to come back though, to lazy to look at the headers which are epic long.
Give them a call monday, probably gonna just return this tablet though.
EDIT3: Well I just realized the phone number is to Canada which counts as international on my cell.
So .. sent a email to their sales email hopefully that one don't get bounced.. If It does im probably gonna return it.
EDIT4: Ok sales address also bounces back, so both the email addresses on their site are borked.
EDIT5: Took it back for a refund, It developed a problem with charging on the 3rd cycle, it said it was 100% but the battery was flat dead and would turn off soon as I unplugged it.
I think the battery was bad I noticed it was warm right before this happen even when not doing anything..
To bad, tablet actually felt pretty solid in the hand.
Won't Show Up
I can't seem to get my Proscan to show up, I have all proper drivers installed, USB Debugging enabled, but it still doesn't show up

Use app guard to check and see if the device is vulnerable to 8219321 or 9695860
If it is then Cydia Impactor will likely root it.
I posted how I did it on the proscan I had 2 posts up.
Should be same process if your device is vulnerable to either of those security flaws.

Ok I can confirm this works, downloaded root checker and root explorer. Both worked...is there a thread on here for this device or similar ones?
wondering how hard it would be to get a working custom recovery, would have to be something touch without keys, probably like TWRP. wouldnt mind doing some theme for this device.

I think this is the only thread on the device.. or at least the biggest.
My unit was suppose to be a present for my sister.. but it turned out to be trash.. at least my particular one was
CPU was capped at 1ghz not 1.2.. broken governor never let the cpu get above 800mhz (lowest freq)
and battery quit taking a charge on 3rd cycle (despite it saying it was 100% charged.. it was a lie)
Support is basicly non existent for proscan, some units don't even have firmwares on their website, support/sales email addresses just bounce stuff back.
Ended up returning it and getting a azpen a700 from micro center for 40 bucks, smaller outfit but at least they have something resembling support.
android 4.2.2, technically inferior ot the proscan I had but since the unit I had was garbage I guess that's moot.
It's surprisingly snappy for what it is Allwinner a13 @ 1.2ghz, kernel allowed up to 1.5ghz but the unit I got was unstable even at 1250 so they must run those tabs at the ragged edge of stability, no issues at 1.2 though.
If you got a good proscan I graduate you, The one I had actually felt very solid and good in the hand.
Slightly above average screen for cheap tabs.
I updated my proscan plt-7223g with the firmware from curtis international now i dont have touch capability or internet connection. I'm still able to navigate with the keyboard. What i'm asking is if anyone has the stock image or stock firmware for it? It would awesome to get it back to out of the box state.

thanks i got my kids tablet rooted this way proscan plt7223g.. i want to installed a custom rom now any idea on speeding this tablet up ?
I had been looking into running certain applications that for some reason only run on other devices I do not have onto my own set of devices, such as my primary, the note 3 from Verizon. I had successfully been able to achieve root and have safestrap with a partition of hyperdrive so I can test apps on there without ruining my default rom. First, I had seen that a file called, "build.prop" was accessible after root to mess around with to achieve running "non-compatible" apps on my note 3. While this did seem like a good method to attempt to get apps I could not get originally from the play store, a problem struck (well actually a few more than one). I needed to know multiple pieces of info from the device that was compatible with the app I wanted to use in the first place such as model number etc. I thought at first that I would have been able to get that info off the Nvidia Shield by searching it up online. That however was a failure since I could note find anything. My main point is that I would like to know if there is a way of flashing or installing the nvidia grid app to my note 3 after having succeeded to root the device.
This has been talked about before, a guy attepted to get it too work on another device but failed.
Grid is mean't only for the shield, no offense but we also don't need people from other devices sucking up grids connections anyway.
Also if I remember right, on nvidia's forums nvidia tried to make it in a way to only work on the shield.
If you really want to play pc games on it, use splashtop thd and stream games from your pc too your device.
try this
if you have a rooted ouya, and know how to extract an appstore apk, then try the amazing frog on the shield, it has full controller support for shield and is pretty fun, especially if you want the experience on the go

It must be more than just build.prop, more on system files. Like an assert check.
The closest I got was just changing the build.prop, just to download the damn app.
Nvidia is a large company anyway, they can handle it, they let Ouya on it.

You forget that Ouya has it, and it's Tegra 3 (Not 4), plus 1GB of Ram. This app is worth cracking down.
(Something Wikipad Inc. has very similar specs to and definitely what I'm looking into)
Don't use Splashtop THD, little to no controller support and forces resolution.
Use Kainy, for now...

Hello, I actually own a wikipad, in which you were talking about, and it is somewhat similar to the shield. I rooted it and I'm trying to get the grid beta app. I read a thing saying that it was only for people living in California because their towers signal doesn't go everywhere. I managed to download the app from apptoide but when you try to open it it tells you that your device isn't supported and I guess editing the build.prop to the shields doesn't work. Once the app is off the beta version someone will probably crack it.
No offense but I hope GRID sticks to SHIELD. If others start hogging up the servers we'll never get to enjoy the games on the device they are meant for.

Can confirm I am having android pay issues as well. It was buggy for me on b12 and now on 21 I have yet to get it to notice the NFC terminal. My card is still registered in but that's as far as I got.
Before this last update Pay worked well for me. The key for me is I did not realize the NFC sensor is on the front top of the phone and not the back and you have to unlock with a PIN and not the fingerprint.
All the cards I added before the update are still in pay but they no longer work. The easiest way to test, without the need to be at an NFC terminal, is try to add a new card.
You should get an error message that pay won't work on this phone...
Android Pay has been fixed in the B21 firmware as of about 5pm Eastern today.

So SafetyNet API must of got updated server side...
Android Pay, and other apps like Pokémon Go, use the Google SafetyNet API to verify your device hasn't been rooted or modified in other ways. It does this by creating a hash checksum of your device and verifying it server side against a known "good' hash of the device on the server. If they don't match, SafetyNet triggers a modified response and the app gets an unsafe message. How the app responds to that varies, Pokémon Go won't allow you to play and Android Pay won't let you add cards or make payments, other apps may vary in an unsafe or modified response.

I use a USB Stick for transferring files, with a micro USB to USB-C adapter on the phone. The drive I use is a Microcenter store brand with micro USB on one end and standard USB on the other end.

Axon 7 Mini
guys where to download B2017G "Build 21"?
After the success of campaigns to get hardware for BL Unlock/Root for the newest HD 8/10, I figured we as a community could maybe do the same for custom ROMS. If you've been around any of the other Amazon device threads, I'm sure you've noticed XDA Senior Member @ggow and his plethora of custom roms/support for these devices. If your like me, he's helped extend the life and usefulness of your older Amazon devices way past their prime! Anyways, after contacting ggow through DM, he has shown interest in continuing to support Amazon hardware, including the newest Fire HD 8/10. From what I know, he has very limited access to a friend's HD10 for a short time. So, if you have the means and you want help, please consider donating to @ggow through his profile page so that he may purchase his own HD 8 and HD 10.
Disclaimer: I'm not getting any kickbacks or a share of the pot. I just want a custom ROM for my new hardware and believe @ggow can make it happen. Here is my DM and his response just for the sake of transparency. If you've got questions, I'm sure @ggow can give more information now that this thread is live.

Hey ggow,
I didn't want to just tag you in a random thread, so I figured I'd dm you. I was just wondering if you had considered possibly making custom roms for the newest Amazon devices given the recent rooting/unlocking achieved on them. I know a couple of the developers got funded to buy a tablet through donations so they could work on them and figured maybe something like that could be done for you if it will help. I know your pretty busy with all your other projects and RL, so I understand if this is something you don't want to do. Either way, thanks for all the Roms you do make. Especially the CM/Nexus ROM for Ford. Definitely made that tablet last me longer than it should have! Best of luck and sorry for the random dm.

That would be useful, a fire HD8 and HD10 would latest gen would be useful. I want to support the newer devices. I have just finished building one for 7th gen amazon fire. My goal is provide a stable a stable custom rom for each device that can be unlocked.
I will have access to a friend's HD10 but only for a short time.

Is not Rom building kind of a full time job?
UK prices for HD10 look high, 110 pounds on a rare sale is like the regular US price of $150!

I don't know how they get away with the pricing like it is. I've complained about this to no avail...

Yep, I'm on it
The HD8 could still require some love though. (I don't own a HD8)
And since they aren't too dissimilar, having @ggow work on the HD8 I think both devices could benefit from it

We're in dire need of a 2017 hd8 bootloader unlock before further progress can be made. I've asked around a bit but haven't been able to get any real clue how we could use other unlock methods as a guide. Or for that matter, anyone with the time/inclination/skill/hardware to help. Poop etc

The HD8 being talked about in thread is the 2018 version. The HD8 2018 has bootloader unlock and can progress onto custom roms.

Yup
I bricked mine and I had to get a free replacement. I hope amazon doesn’t notice about the pry marks on the corners for bootrom flash. How can I avoid doing that on the replacement device

Don't know for how long, but looks like a used HD 8 is £53.99 currently on Amazon.co.uk (Still $71 usd which is ridiculous, imo)

Any thoughts on when you might release an experimental rom for suez? I'm debating pulling the trigger on one since my Fire 7 THOR died.
