Hello,
I recently broke my PX5 CSN2 model (entirely my fault by putting a ribbon cable upside down) so I purchased a new MTCE PX5 unit to replace it.
I'm likely going to install Hal9k but I was wondering what other mods (hardware or software) are available for the MTCD/E units. I am very capable as far as soldering and wiring go so don't hold back here.
I'm pretty sure mine is going to be a PX5 but I've heard of people just swapping out the PX5 board for a PX6, is this actually possible without needing special software or hardware?
I've also read about people doing some sort of hardware mod to enable the built in DSPs of the units (7floor mod?). Does that need to done if you have Hal9k installed or is there some other software work around that doesn't require soldering?
I'm eventually planning on installing a fairly high end DSP and amp to run my higher end speakers I have yet to install. Do you have any recommendations as to connecting this up? I saw some posts of people taking the High Level Audio and converting it instead of the built in RCA signals. Would definitely like to know thoughts here.
And last question, do you know the highest resolution rear camera the units can typically handle? The one I had on my old unit was definitely pretty crappy so I'd like to buy the highest quality these units can handle. I made forum post asking if these can handle AHD video signals or only CVBS which has some pretty limited resolution.
Thanks for you time and hope to hear from you soon!
Hi,
The PX board is attached to the motherboard with two screws and the connector.
You don't need special hard- or software.
Take the PX5 board out and put the new PX6 board on your motherboard and screw it together.
Now you have a PX6 with the android-version which is on the new board.
You may have to solder the GPS antenna, because the most boards come without.
For better sound I use the wadzio sound mod. You don't have to solder and it has a lot of soundtechnical effect:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...elopment/mod-bd375xx-sound-processor-t3834657
I use a simple NTSC camera. That is enough for me

Thanks for info on PX6, is there any noticeable performance benefits? Does it run hotter?
Soldering GPS antenna doesn't sound too bad. Are there any guides for doing the swap?
Is there a point in using wadzio sound mod after installing Hal9K which has viper4android?
In regards to camera, I've been doing a ton of research and trying to find the highest resolution camera and I've narrowed it down to a few models I'm gonna buy and test. CVBS highest resolution is 960H (960 x 576 PAL or 960 x 480 NTSC) and trying to find rear camera that has that resolution has been difficult. Unfortunately AHD is not supported by older MTCD/E boards.
You don't need instructions for rewrapping. You see how it is soldered to the PX5 board and solder it back to the PX6 board in the same way.
In my opinion, the difference between PX5 and PX6 is not really noticeable.
I do not use Viper4Android. I am very satisfied with the wadzio mod.
Which camera would you like to buy? Do you have a link to it?

I use a Logitech c920, FOV is great, It doesnt have IR night vision, (that wouldnt work properly with the headlights on anyway I guess), however it seems to work fine in the dark. When I get a chance I will upload a video.
Also, the built in DVR app is dog ****, i use an app from the play store called AutoBoy. It records the camera but also tracks your location which is handy, the other killer feature for me is that it allows you to flip the camera feed 180 degrees, which allows me to mount the camera upside down on the windscreen.

Great Feedback Josh Thanks.
If you do get a chance that would be great I would like to see fov and image quality.
Thanks Again

No problems. i just need to pull the car up to the house and upload to youtube (you can do this direct from AutoBoy app) at some point. Give me a few hours and I will try and get it done.

If its the ROCKCHIP/ARM CPU, then don't waste your time with a dashcam. Those things don't have video encoders, and you can't just capture raw. Means that you'll be software-encoding the video with the super-weak CPU. The performance hit is debilitating. I've been periodically tinkering with the idea of skipping the android layer and using ffmpeg to capture the stream directly, but hard to find the time needed to work on it.
If you get the INTEL unit, it DOES have a video encoder, AND has a much stronger CPU, it can do dashcamming much easier.
So a Logitech c920 (that does x.264 in hardware) won't work well?
Only asking because I was just getting ready to buy one for that very purpose...

The hardware encoder will not help you on the rockchip head unit if you go through Android to capture video. It will perform simultaneous decode and encode on the CPU before storing the video file.
Also FYI: It definitely does NOT do x264 in hardware. It will do H.264.
x264 is an open source SOFTWARE H.264 encoder.

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I really appreciate it! Sounds like that's out. I thought so anyway. It seems that we need to keep as much of a load off these head units as possible to conserve resources... That's ok, I had a plan 'B' anyway lol.
To be honest I've not found the performance hit to be that much at all. I have it running in the background all the time and apart from the splash screen when Autoboy loads I hardly know its there. I've not had any major laggyness with my MTCD for a while now, since Malaysk v6 probably and v7 (based on the last joying rom) is even better.
Hi, I've tried a HD camera but the problem it has the time stamp as well as GPS coordinates and I can't change them, I think the problem is the camera needs to comunicate with the car unit. Other problem was the image quality, I'm not 100% satisfied...so I've bought a Ambarela mini 0805(for 47€). Need to test it, it's on the way ...expect to get it this week. I'll post the results with sample video and images.
Hi all,
i wonder if the P20 has different top speaker from P20 Pro or it's just a software locked feature that we don't have stereo speakers. I remember that in Nexus 5X the community unlocked top speaker so you could mod Nexus 5X to be in stereo. Maybe our P20 also could gain this feature because mono speaker is so annoying while watching movies or youtube clips
Feature you are talking about is usually made by mixer modding, which in case of Kirin Cpu's is different to exynos, or qualcomm. Anyways, if you have root, you can try making some dumps from your device, so we can see if there is anything we can mod, i have plans for kirin devices.
Any news of this ?

Now you've incorporated Kirin CPU's in your mod, I wonder if there's any chance of activating top speaker on the device for stereo playback?
Does anyone know if this is a thing?
My googling and searching hasn't turned up any definitive answer and it seems like this could be done if software was written to support it but it might need some hardware I'm not aware of instead.
Further googling has brought to my attention that specific hardware decoders are needed to process AHD signals. As a result it is highly unlikely the MTCD/E boards would support this functionality if it wasn't already implemented like it is for CSN2.
With that said, anyone know what the highest resolution backup camera is that I can pickup for a PX5 based MTCE unit?
Further research has pointed me to CVBS being limited to a resolution of 960H (960 x 576 PAL or 960 x 480 NTSC). Unfortunately I have not been successful in locating a camera that is able to output such a strange resolution, the closest I've found is 800 x 600.
It appears that chipsets on cameras capable of handling 720p and 1080p through AHD have to be specifically programmed to output in that format even though it's technically downgrading the performance of the camera to do so.
I think I'm gonna get a few and compare them to see which is the best I've been able to find.

Hey guys, I just saw the release of the Zenfone 7/7Pro and I was a little let down that it didn't have a headphone jack. I was wondering what are your thoughts, and if this will make you pull the trigger or stay with your current device?

I have Zenfone 6 and I will probably stay on it for quite a while because of no headphone jack and increase weight by 40 grams. I like what Asus have done here but I feel like I don't need an upgrade for now.
Aside from that. The camera seem to be an improvement especially with OIS. For camera2 info this is what I found

This is pretty much my only complaint about the ZF7 - besides the price maybe. As I need a new phone I don't have much of an option at the moment. There is no other phone fulfilling all my requirements and I don't see any (soon) upcoming phone doing it...
- Big flat screen without punch hole
- Good ROM support
- Big battery
- Good camera
- Headphone jack
- Stereo speakers
I guess I have to get some wireless earbuds in the future, although I don't really want to... Another 200 bucks out the window. I thought if they are going to kill the jack they would also announce some earbuds.
I recently made the switch to wireless earbuds, so it's not that big of a deal for me personally. The only gripe I have with this phone is how big and heavy it is. 230g. Wish they would have kept the size and weight of the Zenfone 6.
Other than that it seems like a very good phone. Not sure about the main camera sensor (IMX686), as it's used by cheaper phones like the Pocophone F2. Also for some reason reviewers who got the phone early can't show pics taken with this phone ? Sounds like the camera software isn't fully polished yet. Can't think of other reasons...
It is not a problem for me, as I mainly use bluetooth headset. Using wired headset is a hassle for me. But I understand this is such a deal breaker for a lot of other. I don't quite understand why they can't simply just keep it to cover as much user as they can. Just like they already put dedicated microsd slot, why not just go full and make the near-perfect phone with headphone jack, which can satisfy a lot of users. The phone is quite thick enough already, so space seems not to be big problem.

I have a lot of wired headphones, so I purchased a small/cheap USB-C to 3.5mm DAC/adapter from Amazon called a Clipthat (silly name).
Honestly, the cheap Clipthat sounds better than the headphone jack on my ZF6. I currently have both a ZF6 and ZF7Pro, at least until I get everything transferred over and the ZF7Pro setup to my taste.
Not an issue for me. Switched to Bluetooth earbuds a while back and being wireless has been the best decison ever! Only every now and then not being able to plug my phone in somewhere for audio has been every so slightly problematic, but not a deal breaker for me at all
No headphone jack doesn't bother me. I have bluetooth in my car and wireless earbuds. I can't remember the last time I used the headphone jack on my zenfone 6.

No headphone jack is literally my only complaint for this phone.
Easy to unlock, rom support should be a breeze (Once it gets going). Super fast Full screen with no holes or notches, better selfie camera than any on the market. Microsd card support.
My friend bought a galaxy s20 and was very upset by the comparison of our geekbench scores since we both have the same SOC. Considering he paid $400 more for his phone and can't even use his hotspot without paying additional charges to his carrier.
Since my only downside I could find was the headphone jack, I went ahead and got the 7, and then bought a usb c to headphone adapter. I have not needed to plug my phone in during the day yet. At the end of my average day when I go to bed I am still around 15-20%.
This is pretty standard these days
Anyone seen this head unit before and have any feedback? 1st one I came across with a 2k screen. Very interested

It works well, so far so good.....i will be trying to install in a few days.
I just plugged the unit to a power source to verify is working well.
Testing wifi, setting accounts, downloading apps....Android Auto works wireless (i was not expecting that)
i´ll play a little more before to installing it on my car

Fake Android 12.
These are FYT.
Yes, Android 10 in fact !
Just got one of those (actually selected the 2K screen as an option, not sure if it makes a difference... M700S model with 8GB). Will post my impressions once it arrives!
I got a 2k screen last year from yet another knockoff/renamed/noname something.
It does indeed have a MIPI 2k screen as well as 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.
(tested with fake device tester)
that said, the high resolution plays havoc with apps (maps is soooo tiny).
Luckily, the latest Joying firmware for 2k screens corrected most of the issues, but still a couple of apps aren't optimized (gmaps, is the biggest pita there, can't see any street names from the driver's seat)

I used Purr to reduce the screen resolution. I had to do an ADB shell to grant it rights though as it doesn't have them out of the box.
I will recive my m6pro from medeke maybe next week. I will make a complete review when I will mount it on my car
To those who have it, how is the call quality? Is it as bad as all the other Chinese units?
I'm also intrested to see if the call quality issues people mentioned are improved in this unit.
I've spoken to mekede rep online and they say that the chip is now UIS7862 S and the issue was not related to mic lacking noise cancelling but to the internal BT 5.0. The UIS7862 S has internal BT 5.1 and they claim this will resolve the problem.
Not sure I believe this but interested in others thoughts.

The version of Bluetooth going from 5.0 to 5.1 will do nothing at all to improve the sound quality of a microphone.
Yes I completely agree, just mentioning the comment from the Mekede sales, I did point this out.
Me: For the call quality it is the microphone that causes bad call quality, people are disconnecting internal mike and using external mic but still the receiver of the call is not hearing clearly.
Sales: no friend, mic is for transfering the sound to people you are calling. If people got the internal BT, it is easy to get noise while calling and driving. so we always make external bt
Me: Yes that is the problem, people receiving the call from the device cannot hear the user clearly. Call volume is low and have a lot of noise interference.
Sales: you dont understand that friend, the main point is the internal BT.

That is not BT, but BS (if you know that abbreviation -> b*sh*t).
And there is no internal/external BT, but internal/external microphone. The problem was so far that the internal mic was not switched off. As the internal and external mic have a different resistance, this even caused interference and further sound degradation. In these new M6 pros you can switch off the internal microphone, as you are aware.
BT 5.1 supports multi-channel audio in comparison to 5.0, which is an improvement, but that has nothing to do with the microphone problem.
Are there any users of the m6pro that have tested out call quality and can comment?
