Does anyone know if this is a thing?
My googling and searching hasn't turned up any definitive answer and it seems like this could be done if software was written to support it but it might need some hardware I'm not aware of instead.
Further googling has brought to my attention that specific hardware decoders are needed to process AHD signals. As a result it is highly unlikely the MTCD/E boards would support this functionality if it wasn't already implemented like it is for CSN2.
With that said, anyone know what the highest resolution backup camera is that I can pickup for a PX5 based MTCE unit?
Further research has pointed me to CVBS being limited to a resolution of 960H (960 x 576 PAL or 960 x 480 NTSC). Unfortunately I have not been successful in locating a camera that is able to output such a strange resolution, the closest I've found is 800 x 600.
It appears that chipsets on cameras capable of handling 720p and 1080p through AHD have to be specifically programmed to output in that format even though it's technically downgrading the performance of the camera to do so.
I think I'm gonna get a few and compare them to see which is the best I've been able to find.

I've searched for this in the past, and I've read the associated threads that come up when I typed in my topic name, but none of them seem to address the issue directly (either it's not what I'm looking for, or nobody answered, and they're all for different devices).
Is there a way to adjust (permanently or otherwise) the fps at which the video recorder records video?
I ask this because I'm looking at my golf swing and I'd like to have as many frames as possible to step between so I can see where I need to improve. 30 fps is good, but it means pretty big gaps for fast motion.
As the Captivate has access to a 720p camera, I'm just curious if there is a hardware limitation that prevents it from exceeding 30 fps. If this is a no-go situation, that's ok, I'd just like to not keep wondering if it is possible.
Thanks for any information.

I don't know much about it but wouldn't you make it better by unlocking your phone's fps (locked at 56fps I believe)?
Just a though.

From my understanding our phone is capped at 56 fps if you see only 30fps on 720p video file that's sure a big file and resolution to handle and hardware wise that is only our phones gpu can offer even if you uncapped 56fps you will still see lower fps(30fps) in 720p video so it is a hardware limitation, for lesser resolution you may see higher fps.

Makes sence, thanks for the correction
Ok, thanks. It sounds like something said in the other thread - I can have higher fps at the cost of higher resolution, or higher resolution at the cost of fps.
Not ideal, but until a physics-bending hack comes along to allow both at the same time, I'll work with what is available.
Hi, I know this is probably a stupid question. But I was wondering if anyone knows that when Ice Cream Sandwich is released will be also be getting the 1280 by 720 resolution (essentially 720p) or is this limited by hardware and not software?
can your 19" computer monitor do 2560x1600?
its a hardware limitation...nothing software can fix
The screen res can't be set higher than its native res. the GSII's WVGA can't be set to 720p
I didn't know it was hardware limited. I can set my 1080p monitor to 1024 x 768 .. but that's software limited. I thought the Samsung Galaxy was like that since it's such a powerful phone. But I was wrong, so sorry for asking a question..

1024x768 is a resolution LESS than 1080, obviously. i didnt ask you if you could DOWNGRADE your resolution via software...your 1080p monitor will never run 2560x1600 no matter what software you run...
if the hardware in this phone was actually capable of a higher resolution, dont you think they would have run it at that? i mean, thats a huge selling point on some of the other 4.5 inch devices. the resolution + LTE would have made this phone kill sales of a lot of other phones. its not like Gingerbread has a resolution limitation, so if it was just software, they could have released it with a higher resolution, again assuming the hardware would support it.
Does anybody know how to enlarge camera's video resolution on x7510? I know that many models of WM devices supports changing through registry. Theoretically, this should be possible on this device.
Ive tried that on my roms and the bigger the resolution the frame falls dramatically and its already very low even on stock. The device can not support higher resolution and keep a normal frame rate (15fps ect)
Thank you for the response, Vico. I've thought that it is possible because I had the similar case with my old Toshiba G900 (GoForce 5500). Camera on that device is simply terrible but it could work with 640x480. I've expected that x7510 could afford much better results but I'd believe your words and don't try to do that
I want to buy a very cheap, used Android TV stick for one reason only: to play 1080p video with subtitles on my HDTV. The only thing holding me back is the fear that the manufacturers aware of the limits of their hardware somehow blocked native 1080p feed and instead allow some upscaling. What is it like from your experience?

Hello Maciek,
While I have limited experience with Android HDMI sticks; the one i have (MK809IV 2GB Ram / 8GB Storage) does unfortunately upscale from 720p. However, on the bright side; it does lower bandwidth usage and lower network activity if you're worried about that. I think your best bet is to purchase a $150 USD Android Tablet with a 1080p screen by default and a Micro HDMI out port. I hope you find this information helpful.

Do you think this upscaling could be disabled by tinkering with the system files?

Possibly; if you use a different ROM for the device (although it's tedious and a pain to do if it's your first time; plus, there's the risk of breaking your device)....

Very surprised that there is not much info on this, was looking for a usb dashcam solution to plug into Joying units usb to use as DVR.
Any Advice?
Needs to have night vision and decent FOV.
Thanks

I use a Logitech c920, FOV is great, It doesnt have IR night vision, (that wouldnt work properly with the headlights on anyway I guess), however it seems to work fine in the dark. When I get a chance I will upload a video.
Also, the built in DVR app is dog ****, i use an app from the play store called AutoBoy. It records the camera but also tracks your location which is handy, the other killer feature for me is that it allows you to flip the camera feed 180 degrees, which allows me to mount the camera upside down on the windscreen.
Josh
Great Feedback Josh Thanks.
If you do get a chance that would be great I would like to see fov and image quality.
Thanks Again

No problems. i just need to pull the car up to the house and upload to youtube (you can do this direct from AutoBoy app) at some point. Give me a few hours and I will try and get it done.

If its the ROCKCHIP/ARM CPU, then don't waste your time with a dashcam. Those things don't have video encoders, and you can't just capture raw. Means that you'll be software-encoding the video with the super-weak CPU. The performance hit is debilitating. I've been periodically tinkering with the idea of skipping the android layer and using ffmpeg to capture the stream directly, but hard to find the time needed to work on it.
If you get the INTEL unit, it DOES have a video encoder, AND has a much stronger CPU, it can do dashcamming much easier.
So a Logitech c920 (that does x.264 in hardware) won't work well?
Only asking because I was just getting ready to buy one for that very purpose...

The hardware encoder will not help you on the rockchip head unit if you go through Android to capture video. It will perform simultaneous decode and encode on the CPU before storing the video file.
Also FYI: It definitely does NOT do x264 in hardware. It will do H.264.
x264 is an open source SOFTWARE H.264 encoder.

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I really appreciate it! Sounds like that's out. I thought so anyway. It seems that we need to keep as much of a load off these head units as possible to conserve resources... That's ok, I had a plan 'B' anyway lol.
To be honest I've not found the performance hit to be that much at all. I have it running in the background all the time and apart from the splash screen when Autoboy loads I hardly know its there. I've not had any major laggyness with my MTCD for a while now, since Malaysk v6 probably and v7 (based on the last joying rom) is even better.
Hi, I've tried a HD camera but the problem it has the time stamp as well as GPS coordinates and I can't change them, I think the problem is the camera needs to comunicate with the car unit. Other problem was the image quality, I'm not 100% satisfied...so I've bought a Ambarela mini 0805(for 47€). Need to test it, it's on the way ...expect to get it this week. I'll post the results with sample video and images.
