Hugely disappointed in the absence of an iPad-like USB plug allowing cameras, drives, etc. to be accessed via the usb port, I thought for a moment and realized something. I know an alright amount when it comes to hardware vs. software questions and know that USB otg is not necessarily a hardware issue...the Motorola Xoom was released with Honeycomb and it supports USB Host. Now that very early versions of Honeycomb have been ported to the Galaxy Tab, theoretically shouldn't that mean it now supports USB Host mode (or at least in the near future)? Any thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated as I'm aware that there are many others waiting for this awesome capability for their tab!!
With past versions of android already fully supporting USB host, I don't see why they don't other than they want you to buy the version with the largest storage space... Android should in theory already have the support as it is an update to the existing android not a new os completely... I feel mostly its just a dirty marketing scheme... (Note: My Archos 101 has a full sized USB port on it with full functionality...)
Hello XDA Crew and tech enthusiasts!
I wanted to see if anyone has a little insider knowledge about Android OEM's incorporating USB 3.1 and DisplayPort over USB, into future device USB-C connections? I'm doubting it would be a simple software switch in Marshmallow to enable these features on the current devices with USB-C, since it takes a whole different pin out on the soldered USB-C connector. It doesn't look like the iFixit teardowns show this implementation. However, the Snapdragon 810 chipset must be capable of it, since Microsoft is using it.
I've been hesitant to pull the plug on any of the new Android phones with the new USB-C connector, with USB 2.1. data connection and no DiplayPort over USB:

I guess it looks like there are going to be some nice features in the future. If the OEM's implement it, being able to dock a phone that has USB 3.1 + DisplayPort will open up new possibilities. I liked Microsoft's implementation, except I'd rather have Android's ecosystem!
It looks like Microsoft's new Lumia's do have USB-C + 3.1 + DisplayPort and the current Snapdragon 810 is definitely capable:

This is for any musicians who moonlight as android developers, or vice versa.
I searched for an answer to this question, but I haven't yet found an answer. Since this website has always been the best for model-specific android development, I thought I'd run this up the ol' flagpole and see who salutes.
I have long avoided joining the hipster ipad/iphone crowd for numerous reasons, including reasons that are purely emotional. That said, I have run into an issue that might send me over the edge to iOS. The issue has to do with MIDI implementation. Apparently, iOS has fully implemented MIDI into its operating system and device USB ports, which is something that Android did not do until version 3.1. Even though 3.1 has been out for some time, the hardware has taken a while to catch up because of latency problems and other frustrations.
Finally, current smartphones and tablets are capable of implementing real-time midi control through the USB port; however, it requires that MIDI is properly configured in the kernel. Since I am so unfortunate as to be a Verizon customer, I have my doubts whether Verizion has bothered to unlock the midi capabilities of the S6 via an OTG cable (if ever there was a stupid name for a host cable, but that is another topic).
Does anyone know if the Verizon version of the Galaxy S6 has fully implemented midi capabilities through the USB port? Until recently, I never had the need for midi control through my phone, but now I need to do just that. I would rather not have to buy an ipad to do what I want to do, but that might be my last resort. I had just upgraded my phone before the clowns at Guitar Center told me that only iOS has implemented midi, which I later found out was not true (sort of). The only people I trust less than the staff at most Guitar Centers are the truly lost individuals you typically find at a Verizon store, so I am posting this on the only board that has never steered me wrong when it comes to all things android.
Thanks for any help in this area anyone might be able to offer.

You might not see anything that is obvious unless you install an application that uses it and have an external USB-to-midi port connected. it isn't like the USB port that provides bi-directional communication. Midi is strictly 1-way and although midi information is digital, it is an analog signal that requires translation from USB via an external port. These are fairly common and are relatively cheap. BUT, by my understanding, in order for android to even see the port requires that midi is turned on in the kernel properly. I just ordered an OTG cable (actually an external OTG adapter) so I intend to give it a try as soon as Amazon delivers it. I have seen other people that have used midi with a Nexus phone, but not with a Verizon S6. From my past experience with Verizon, I am pessimistic about my chances. The only other option would be if I could root the phone and then install a new kernel that has midi turned on, but apparently Verizon has made that problematic as well. I will hold off on cursing Verizon much more until I confirm that they are the user-unfriendly company I know them to be.
I saw that the OnePlus 5T doesn't support HDMI to USB-C adapters, but maybe this has changed with the OnePlus 6? Is there any other way to connect the phone to your monitor? Cheers!

I don't think it support usb-c to hdmi, that the reason it prevent me getting op6. According to gsmarena' s specs it use the slow usb 2.0 type c. I want to play emulators on big screen so casting doesn't cut it. On ly a few flagships from Huawei, Samsung, LG, Google support usb type c 3.1
nope just tested it, doesn't work.
If is real ! It's a bad news !!!
Any solution ?
use displaylink adapters. have a look at the op5 section on xda. its discussed there and there are good solutions. usb 2.0 sucks anyway. will wait for the next gereration and hope they change the usb chip
Anybody have any clue if this phone supports video over USB-C, and would work with adapters? LG flagships and devices with the SD835 SoC support it but IDK if this specific one does. I would be really interested in the Android 10 desktop mode since LG is one of the few manufacturers that still have video over USB-C capabilities and this devices has android 10.
