Anybody have any clue if this phone supports video over USB-C, and would work with adapters? LG flagships and devices with the SD835 SoC support it but IDK if this specific one does. I would be really interested in the Android 10 desktop mode since LG is one of the few manufacturers that still have video over USB-C capabilities and this devices has android 10.

Hey all.
Anyone know whether USB to HDMI is possible with the Honor 8? If so, any recommendations?
Honestly, good luck finding a phone that supports either HDMI-AltMode or DisplayPort-AltMode. I don't believe there's a single non-Windows Phone 10 device that does.
Sorry to crush your dreams. I'm still waiting on Google to enable it on the Pixel C, like they claimed they would ages ago.

I mean, I was able to output to HDMI using a slim-port adapter with my Nexus 5; I used to use it all the time with my mini projector while traveling.
It doesn't seem that improbable.

MHL is very different than Type-C AltModes
I have yet to see a phone (outside of Continuum enabled devices) with support for altmodes, and Type-C doesn't have MHL support.
Lg G5 has this feature. I guess it's the only Android smartphone with the usb type C-Hdmi enabled.
Yeah, even though the port is usbC shaped, it's still a micro usb controller.
As far as I know the Pixel is the only phone with an actual USB-C and 3.0 supported port, but there may be others.
HTC 10 support display-port interface over it's usb-c port.
I saw that the OnePlus 5T doesn't support HDMI to USB-C adapters, but maybe this has changed with the OnePlus 6? Is there any other way to connect the phone to your monitor? Cheers!
Chromecast
I don't think it support usb-c to hdmi, that the reason it prevent me getting op6. According to gsmarena' s specs it use the slow usb 2.0 type c. I want to play emulators on big screen so casting doesn't cut it. On ly a few flagships from Huawei, Samsung, LG, Google support usb type c 3.1
nope just tested it, doesn't work.
If is real ! It's a bad news !!!
Any solution ?
use displaylink adapters. have a look at the op5 section on xda. its discussed there and there are good solutions. usb 2.0 sucks anyway. will wait for the next gereration and hope they change the usb chip
Recently, I have seen a few external touchscreens that can provide both it's video and touch capabilities to some Android phones. Examples are the Vinpok Split and Gemini Portable.
They appear to do this using an ordinary USB-C to USB-C cable that you plug into your phone and the screen's USB-C port. The monitors I've seen also state that they are compatible with the Huawei Mate 10.
First, does anyone know what protocol or tech these monitors are using to do this? It doesn't appear to be DisplayLink or MHL and I don't know any other tech that could be used.
Second, does anyone know if this support is entirely software based (and hence, can be ported to the Mate 9) or is there hardware involved?
Thanks!
Any chance that the desktop mode on android q be supported by pixel 3? Knowing that there is no HDMI out for pixel 3, would Google be able to enable HDMI out via a software update? Alternatively, can we use casting to enable the desktop mode on a secondary display with a Chromecast?
Now that Android 10 is available on Pixel 3 and 3 XL, can someone try a USB-C to HDMI adapter with Android 10 update to see if Google has activated HDMI over USB-C for Desktop Mode ? Thank you in advance guys ?
Disappointing, doesn’t do anything here. Never heard anything again about Desktop mode, except of the beginning of beta1.
@trinec it does work on OnePlus 7, 7 Pro and Essential Phone since Android 10 update, you just have to enable 'Force desktop mode' in Developer Settings, restart the phone and plug a USB-C to HDMI adapter

Enabled it, pluged it into a usb-c hdmi adapter: didn't do anything.
On the Oneplus 7 it seems to be pretty bad compared to Samsung Dex. So we are only missing out on google style alpha version of a desktop mode.
Thank you @madphone ! All Pixel smartphones (1, 1XL, 2, 2XL, 3, 3XL) have USB 3 except 3a and 3a XL which have USB 2 so Google could activate USB-C to HDMI support with a simple OTA update like LG did with Android 9 update on LG G7, V35 and V40 but they don't, for sure they want you to buy a chromecast but it has a way too high input lag in comparison to USB-C to HDMI adapters. Maybe it could be enabled with an alternative ROM but more and more Android smartphones are becoming compatible with HDMI adapters, soon all Android flagships will support HDMI except Pixels. High end smartphone (price) with low end capabilities, I think that's an enough reason for not buying it.
If you want an improved Desktop Mode on OnePlus 7 more similar to Samsung Dex you can install Sentio Desktop https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sentio.desktop
at this point I find it baffling that xiaomi(and few other chinese phone makers) dare to call their top offerings flagships or "flagship killers".
in which galaxy using technology from exactly 20 years ago is considered dignfying of a flaghship device?
let's talk about xiaomi mi 10.
It uses a processor that has a usb3.1 integrated controller, its storage is high-speed ufs 3.0 . the port is using, usb-c is compatible with usb 3.1.
Unless there's some crazy licensing situation where they whould have to pay alot of money, the fact the usb-c is wired internally as on usb 2.0 seems to be done out of spite.
There's no need to bring a list of advantages brought by usb 3.1 (or 3.2 as samsung has in s20).
It's stupid and disrespectfull to their customers.
excuse me xiaomi, if you dare ask almost 1000E for a "top" phone it better not come with any tech older than two years ago, letalone 20.
