What happens to HMS if in case Huawei gets to work back with google - Huawei P40 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello P40 users,
I just had a question that what would happen to our device if Huawei gets to work with Google?
For sure we would be stucked with HMS as GMS devices need a certification from google and for sure our P40 will not have it.

If the trade ban is lifted, Huawei would immediately apply for certification of the P40 and other devices, and I'm sure Google would rush to grant it. This situation hurts Google, too. They don't want to compete with Huawei - they want as many devices with GMS as possible.

Agree, let's hope they get back into bed with each other....

[Notice] Your Huawei ID will be migrated from USA to Germany

I received this email a few days ago. I'm not sure why, exactly, as I live in Pennsylvania. Maybe the lack of software updates for a few months in the US is because Honor is getting rid of their US offices and having Europe handle it?

Anyone else receive something similar? The Honor 8 Pro was just announced today or yesterday and with Honor's support for the phone having seem to have completely died in January, less than six months after release, I'm not seeing a compelling reason to upgrade even if I did have the cash at the moment. (It's also a bit bigger at 5.7" which might be too big for my tiny Trump-like hands. I'd have to try one out in a local store like I did with the Honor 8 to see how it feels.)

I received the same email. I'm not sure what the reasoning is behind it, or what effect (if any) it will have.

No more android updates for huawei phones?

Just read news on all major tech sites.
Google stopped all services with huawei.

Just read the same on Huawei Central site. Not very impressed with this and the future of my device.
I read it but I cannot believe it. I am sure we will be able to turn around this.
Honestly they might develop their own software. If they do, imagine how much they can do with the kirin processors.

After reading the article, it is clear that we will get updates, however the google services stuff will stop on HUAWEI phones.
So that means we will have to use Huawei appgallery store, which looks neat but has less apps than Google play store.
Well, **** Trump i guess.
I think this is the best time to ask Huawei to unlock the bootloaders again. With the unlocked bootloaders, we will be able to root and flash roms and google apps as we want. Huawei still sell the hardware. That will be a win-win situation

That's what's stopping me buying a P30 Pro. We're impressed with the P20 Pro but the bootloader thing is a problem.

Do you think they ever tried to listen to customers?
They only see their own interest.
There is no platform where developers can suggest them

I just hope they make their own software ( EMUI OS?) that almost behaves like IOS.
Custom roms are not optimized for kirin cpu anyway. Imo
you know how to read but you did not even read about which huawei phones is really affected only. it only affects future phones the current ones and old ones will still get access to google updates services and apps end of story.

No. "Existing customers won’t be affected, though without Google resuming business with Huawei, they also won’t get any further Android OS updates."

Thank you, Trump! Very cool!
Well we all have the P20 Pro at this forum, so this doesn't concern us.

You never know if Trump makes a decision that pushes Google to remove gapps on existing huawei phones.

That is practically impossible.
1) I'm not sure any Google apps have the technical ability to be completely removed remotely (unless using some very nasty and very secret backdoor).
2) At this point, the only thing that prevents Google from working with Huawei in the trade ban, which has no power over past events/deals/devices, and only enforced from a certain date onward.

I mean, they can be remotely deactivated by removing the licenses for the current huawei phones. Besides, apparently HMS will be a big deal for Google so let's see what happens.

I don't think they can can they?
I have Google apps on my fire TV which aren't approved, so not sure.
Maybe if they can identify the device they could..
So glad my contract is up, I'm literally waiting for the 1+8

How are you working around GMS App access?

Hey everyone I hope you are all well...
Thought I ask the majority of you as you may be using a P40 series device without Google Mobile Services, at first I did hit a roadblock with the transition from GMS to HMS but seems like its a workaround from this app to that app but just curious to know how everyone is adapting to the new GMS being HMS, how's your experience been thus far and what would you change?
It would be great to get a view to see if any of us are having similar journeys, I myself can now say I have adapted to 100% HMS and am looking forward to what is next from Huawei.
Looking forward to your responses
I really like it. I would just like it if there was an easier way of updating apps rather than. doing them manually.

All in all i have found it easy enough. Im just waiting on contactless payment from Huawei. I never used it before but due to Covid I'm finding a growing need for this, but i always have my bank card so its not super important.

Myself included Google Pay is more of a novelty to me and only used it a few times, I intrigued with Huawei Pay and how it differs if it does, I am currently using a P40 Pro the experience has been no different to P30 Pro tbh I'd like to see app updates by themselves and not having to manually do so from multiple stores otherwise I am extremely impressed.
I bank with Barclays and NatWest which sucks as these apps don't work on HMS yet - web browser and/or keeping my P30 Pro on WiFi in the work draw as the alternative.
Pleasant discovers I wouldn't have come across if I wasn't forced away from Google's bits are YouTube Vanced (even got this running on my P30 Pro now) and DuckDuckGo...
Everything else I used I've managed to get working...
Still happy with my device, no intention on returning, but Huawei do need to pull their finger out and add some more bits to AppGallery... and do something about the suggested apps and adverts on the main page.
I think the banking apps could be bit of a sticking point from an outside view. But fantastic phone if you know what you are doing.

I hope Huawei and UK banking partners work it out.

Question on the ban going forward and the P30 series

I've been reading about this today because I have a chance to get a new phone for a great price on my carrier in Canada and the P30 is one such phone. Everything about the P30 interests me, but what do we think about this ban being modified and Google backpedalling on supporting older Huawei phones released before the ban? Basically do we think the P30 is going to end up abandoned or forced to update a non-Android OS onto it? Are any of you with the P30 concerned about this right now? Curious how people currently with the phone feel.
