[SM-N900] How to downgrade from 5.0/4.4.2 to 4.4.2/4.3

THIS GUIDE IS FOR THE SM-N900. IF YOU TRY THIS ON ANY OTHER DEVICE, YOU WILL 99.99999% CHANCE OF BRICK!!!!(NO SM-N9005, N900V, ETC.)
Hey guys, so many of you are wondering if you can downgrade from 5.0 to 4.4.2 or from 4.4.2 to 4.3. I see many people say this is not possible, but it is!
you'll require:
A windows machine with a sensible version of windows (no windows 95, 98, etc.. )
OR
A mac that either dual boot windows and os x or running windows in a virtual machine (this is what I'm doing)
Odin - Download here
A SM-N900 device running 5.0 or 4.42
A stable internet connection
USB Debugging enabled on your device. If you don't know how to enable it, check here
Boot loader: http://www.mediafire.com/?edp1iw3qzwhtoij (Only if you're downgrading to 4.3!)
7-Zip - Download here (WinRAR WILL NOT work)
SamFirm - Download here
And last but not least....

Okay, let's get on with this.
STEP 1:
Download and install everything I listed above!
Back-up all data on your device.
Unzip SamFirm and Odin to respective folders on the desktop
Open SamFirm by double clicking on the exe
You will be greeted with the application. You now need to specify what firmware you want to download. Enter the model name as SM-N900 (All caps!). Next, you'll be prompted to enter your region. For downgrading to 4.3, enter XFU as the region. For 4.4.2, enter BTC. Don't check binary nature and select auto mode. On the right, select decrypt automatically and then press download.
The firmware will now begin downloading. Wait for the download to complete.
STEP 2 (Only if you're downgrading to 4.3! If you're downgrading to 4.4.2, go to step 4) :
Power off the device. Boot to recovery by holding home, power and volume up at the same time. Do a factory reset. Power off the device again and boot to download mode by holding the volume down, home and power buttons. You will be greeted with a warning. Press continue. Open odin and wait for odin to recognize your device. Select the BL tab and select the bootloader.tar that you downloaded. Next, go to the options tab and unselect auto reboot. Then start the flashing process. DO NOT SHUT DOWN YOUR COMPUTER, PHONE OR UNPLUG THE DEVICE DURING THIS PROCESS!
Once the flash has completed, shut down the device and reboot to download mode.
STEP 3:
Next, take the decrypted zip you downloaded. Open the zip with 7ZIP. Extract the tar.md5 file and open that with 7ZIP. Extract the contents of the tar.md5 file. Delete the sboot.bin, then rezip. Select all the extracted files and right click. Click 7-ZIP > add to archive. Select archive type as tar and then recompress.
STEP 4: Go back to odin, and press reset. Go to the AP tab and select the new tar you just created or if you're downgrading to 4.4.2, select the tar.md5 extracted from the zip. Wait for odin to process the file. It may appear that odin has hanged. This is normal. Wait for it process the file. This time, select auto-reboot from the options tab. Then, start the flash. This flash with take a minute or two. After it finishes flashing, the device will automatically reboot. After the splash screen, it may appear that the device has hanged due to the black screen. Wait for a few seconds, and the startup animation will play as usual. At this point, you should be successfully downgraded!
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE MOBILE NETWORK OR IMEI ISSUES, THEN FLASH THIS OR THIS MODEM IN CWM OR TWRP

How could this be adapted to work on N900t? And do you have pics to confirm that you got bootloader back to 4.3? I thought that was not possible

I am on kitkat right now. I upgraded from 4.3 to 4.4.2 again so I cannot 0ost the pictures. Sorry about that.

Sorry about that I updated the link. Battery life on 4.3 was good.

Followed all the instruction properly. Flashing Bootloader failed the first time as I used Odin 3.7. Flashed with Odin 3.10 and it worked. Flashing the repackaged tar file didnt work twice. It always got stuck while flashing. Then I used Peazip to repackage and it successfully flashed with Odin.
OP please upload the modem to another site as well. Am stuck without mobile network :/
Tl;dr Successfully downgraded to 4.3. Almost.

Yes. I lost the IMEI at first but then i flashed the 4.3 modem and everything worked again.

Hi, I tried to do this to downgrade mi N900. I followed every step, everything work fine (supposed).
After I flashed the moded 4.3 firm (without sboot) my phone died, first time boot show something about a kernel error
Now I can't go into download mode or recovery mode.... It just says "Samsung note 3" and reboots 2 o 3 times and thats all. It doesn't even show that the battery is charging...
The steps i did ->
Downloaded Firm from sammobile -> SM-N900_XFU_1_20131129160104_fifz3b44bv
Downloaded 7 ZIP
Downloaded Bootloader.tar (From the post)
Flashed Bootloader.tar -> OK
Open firm with 7 zip, erased sboot.bin -> recompress to tar -> OK
Flashed recompressed TAR without sboot.bin -> OK
Firts boot -> Black screen with red letters saying something about a Kernel Error
Second boot -> Shows "Samsung Galaxy Note 3" (like usual) reboot, shows the samething again and reboot and then power off
I tried to go into recovery mode -> FAIL
Tried to go into download mode -> FAIL
Can anyone here help me ?

I was with Android 5.0 in my GN3 and I updated to Resurrection Remix Custom ROM - 6.0.1 and I saw that lost all Samsung customization.

i successfully downgrade my n900 to jelly bean i lost my imei but its fine. but i want to ask why when i turnoff the phone and charge it the charging animation shows at first it has battery and a Circle that looks like loading in the middle but its not moving. and the notification light wont lit help me pls

Switch ON Your Phone.

Visit TWRP Homepage.

OR Just Google It, You Will Find It Easily.
STEP 3: DOWNLOADING SAMSUNG ANDROID USB DRIVERS SETUP AND ODIN TOOL :-
Visit Samsung Support Files And Download Latest Android USB Drivers For Samsung.
And Also Download Latest Version Of ODIN Tool.
(These Both Files Can Be Found Very Easily By Google)
STEP 4: FLASHING THE TWRP RECOVERY.
Make Sure You Have Installed The Latest USB Drivers For Samsung And Have Latest Version Of ODIN Tool.
Switch OFF Your Phone. (To Make Sure It Is Switched Off, Remove Battery And Re - Insert It)
Boot Your Phone Into Download Mode. (This Can Be Easily Done By Holding The "VOLUME DOWN + HOME + POWER" Buttons At A Same Time.)
Now Your Phone's Screen Shows Download Mode.
Open The "ODIN.EXE" File (After The Extracting The ODIN.ZIP).
Click On "PDA" OR "AP" Then Browse And Select The "twrp-3.1.1-0-j2lte.img.tar" File.
Now, Connect Your Phone To The PC With The USB Cable. (Make Sure That Your Cable Is Not Damaged And It is At It's Peak Performance.)
Wait Until You See The "Added" Message In The Log Section Of ODIN Tool.

and for root Just use magisk, it works on almost all smartphones and has much more features.

problems faced and solns found
1. During twrp flashing using odin, my stock recovery kept patching the twrp after reboots. So i couldn't install twrp succesfully. To fix this I unchecked "reboot" option in odin (thanks to another xda rooting guide)and switched off device manually after flashing. Then booted into recovery by pressing "home+vol up+power". this time stock rom was gone and twrp was there to welcome me.
2. i ended up in a bootloop after flashing the aforementioned superuser zip file. Instead i flashed BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328.zip and fixed the bootloop.
Note- My device is Samsung Galaxy j200-G.

Chainfire root method

Hi, I've tried a few tutorials on this forum on how to root the Samsung Galaxy S7 G930f.
After flashing the chainfire autoroot file my device stays stuck on the Samsung logo I've waited over 1 hour for the device to boot but it does not.
My question is can anyone explain what I could be doing wrong my device is on stock nougat I did root successfully with magisk a couple of months back but was not happy with having to format my data.
I also prefer chainfire SuperSu. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I also had the same problem. So, I did the old fashioned way.
1. Download TWRP.tar from here: https://dl.twrp.me/herolte/
2. Download the latest stable SuperSU zip. If you want the link: Here ya go
2. Instead of flashing the CFAutoroot file, open Odin, click on AP and select the TWRP that you downloaded.
3. Once it flashes successfully, power off the phone, then Press and hold Volume Up+Home+Power Button to get into the recovery.
4. Copy the SuperSU and flash it and Viola! You got SuperSU!
You probably knew steps 3,4 but I wrote them just in case

Well, yeah. I always start with a clean slate. Just a habit i picked up when i had a OnePlus One. You should be fine without a format though...Cause you're just rooting, not flashing a whole new ROM.

Thanks for helping me out, unfortunately after flashing twrp and booting into twrp recovery the default android recovery loads up.
I will continue searching for a method that does work. If you know anything else I could try please let me know.

That's weird, I just flashed stock firmware and TWRP a few mins ago and it worked fine for me. I hope you used the .tar and not the .img and the Odin that comes with CF Auto Root, not the one you use to flash the whole stock firmware.

I did use the .tar and have also tried with Odin that comes with cf autoroot.
Unfortunately I still get the same result flash of twrp is successful when I boot into recovery I get the android installing update with dead android then it just goes into to stock recovery.
I will try a few more times if no success I'll try with a fresh install of stock firmware.

I decided to try again and succeeded but still had to format data to get the phone to boot. I made a full backup on my laptop before proceeding I did the following steps to successfully root.
I am in no way responsible for any lost data or bricked devices please note if you follow this tutorial you will trip knox and your warranty will be void.
1. MAKE A FULL BACKUP OF YOUR DEVICE CAN'T BE STRESSED ENOUGH
2. Flash the latest SM-G920F firmware with odin.
3. Setup device let it check for software updates, install the update if available (I had an update)
4. Download latest twrp recovery in .tar format for the SM-G920F from twrp website
5. Download the latest stable version of SuperSU.zip
6. Download Samsung Antiroot Removal Kit
7. Transfer the files to your SM-G920F sd card
8. Power off your SM-G920F and enter download mode by holding the volume down + home button + power button read the warning press up to allow custom flashing.
9. Open Odin I used Odin v3.12.3 tap the AP button locate the custom recovery and flash it's done be ready to enter twrp recovery as the device will boot quickly, as soon as it powers off to reboot hold the volume up + home button + power button if timed correctly you shall enter twrp recovery.
10. Locate the SuperSU.zip install it but don't reboot
11. Locate the Samsung Antiroot Removal Kit and install it
12. Go back in twrp go to the format option and select format data once formatted reboot the device.
It will take some time to boot once it's rebooted you will have a rooted SM-G920F with SuperSU

how did you backup your files on step 1 if your not rooted?

This is how I backed up my phone it's a bit tedious could have been done quicker.
First I removed my memory card from the phone. I then connected my phone in MTP mode to my laptop I dragged the folder of the files I needed to my laptop.
I then used MobileGo to export .apk files of the apps I wanted. I then exported the photos and videos I wanted to keep.
I did a WhatsApp backup copied the folder to my laptop.
I then made accounts on all games that I wanted to keep my progress on using Facebook and Google Play. Some games allows signing up with email address.
I used Mcbackup to backup all my contacts and e mailed them to myself.
I know that I could have used Google Drive or Samsung Cloud for some of the tasks but I prefer backing up this way.

3. If your phone reboots to recovery once your phone is in recovery run the Setup.exe in the S7_S7E_ROOT_UNROOT_ADB_TOOLS folder
4. In cmd window choose Option(3) Unroot phone will reboot too download mode
5. In Odin BL slot choose the BL_G93*_DELETE_CACHE.tar and flash phone will reboot to recovery and say processing update then get an error and strart rebooting recovery
6. Let recovery bootloop at least once thin force phone back to download mode
7. In Odin AP slot flash BL_ENTER_ENG_RECOVERY_G930.tar and flash phone will reboot to recovery with a bunch of red cache errors
8. In recovery choose wipe cache then reboot back to bootloader from recovery
9. In Odin BL slot choose BL_OREO_STOCK_G93*.tar for Oreo or BL_RESET_DM_VERITY_G93*.tar for Nougat and flash
10. This is important as soon as odin is done flashing and phone powers off immediately hold buttons to force phone to recovery

Beware If you update V9 or higher bootloader then rooting and everything will not work. You will be stuck on stock possibly for good

Works perfect and love having TWRP just for everyone else DO NOT use the 1st link it will download the G935V firmware which will not flash for the S7 flat.

Brother, you might want to check your zips. Your sm_g930_oreo root/unroot zip is missing the BL_ENTER_ENG_RECOVERY_G93*.tar and instead has BL_ENG_BOOTLOADERS_G930?? Also, your S7_G930V Flat Odin Firmware links to the G935V firmware and will not flash obviously to the S7 flat. Kinda important files if you want to use this. I was going to try to unroot and update to the Oct security patch and thank God I checked the required files before starting.

what does post 2 say. If you dont want to be stuck on stock then you are done with updates the firmware in the OP is it that the last firmware that can be rooted

Yeah I know and saw that the 5th character had the 8 so it is a secure bootloader. Trust me, I went back and forth about root and no root. I decided that what little bit I was rooting for wasnt worth the hit I took as far as speed, heat, and battery. So far I am enjoying stock with the Oct security patch. If I get root in the future I may try it but for now I can run my themes and life is good, thanks brother.

If this works your a genius!! I'm going to try it first thing when I get home if no one complains of issues. I have all the stock crI1 Odin files I extracted from verizons recovery utility so no matter what I can fix it. So I cant wait to try this! I will donate if this works.

Don’t get your expectations up it still uses the engboot for root. I just made it easy to unroot so you can use stock boot. Img

Oh okay. I will have to do some reading on Eng Boot. I'm not educated on what that exactly means. I did successfully use your root method and got to play in twrp which was really cool. I really like the adb tools setup. I'm having a hard time with the debloating. I'm trying to find out what files to remove and keep. The system is very slow rooted. I hope I'm not debloating wrong. Sorry I'm semi new at this.

Just be careful what you debloat. What I would do is go into settings/apps and disable anything you think is bloat then see if the phone runs differently for a day or so. Somethings you think wouldn't affect the running of the system do. That way if it does affect something you can go back in and enable it.

I went ahead and used stock files in Odin to flash everything back to normal. I went ahead and tried the disable method with it unrooted of course. It is running so smooth now. On top of it all the Samsung apps work which I like.
I learned yesterday after all day battling the rooted way deleting bloat that you are correct. There are issues from deleting things that you think would never cause issues. My phone instantly would lock up and the battery was draining super fast. It was not worth it.

That is good advice. I used the 'pm uninstall' method to debloat tons of Samsung stuff. Now I occasionally get random battery drains. Time to factory reset. I should have just left it, because my wife has an international Exynos S7 with nothing debloated, and it runs perfect.

Samsung Galaxy Core 2 (SM-G355M) - Recovery mode does not work.

Helo! I'm new here at FORUM. In a desperate attempt I decided to create an account here and try to solve my problem with a Samsung device.
It all started when I received a Samsung Galaxy Core 2 device to fix. It is stuck on the Samsung screen and does not start the system. I first tried to install the original ROM of the device with the correct binary through the Sammobile website using the Odin3 program. I tested about 4 different ROMS, but none of them worked.
After unsuccessfully trying to install the ROM I decided to restore the device using Hard Reset mode by pressing the correct key combination. And this is where I came across a very worrying problem. The correct options would be to show the Recovery options on the device's screen, but on this device they do not appear. The only thing that appears is the Android symbol with a red exclamation symbol. This screen appears for 3 seconds only ... after that the system restarts and returns to the Samsung screen again.
I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for a week and so far I haven't found anything.
I installed several features through Download Mode, but none of them were recognized by the system (All features were compatible with the model). Some of these features were Custom Recovery ... TWRP ... CWM .. Custom ROMS ... etc. I installed all of them through Odin3, but after the process was over and the phone restarted it didn't install because it jumped straight to the Samsung screen again.
Since no option on the Hard Reset screen was showing up, I decided to press a few keys at random to try to access an option. After a few attempts I finally managed to see some information. Now I come across written information: '' E: failed to mount / efs (invalid argument) '' https://ibb.co/FmBtv10 (Error Image).
And this is where it gets worse, because I don't know what that means. The only things I have left on the device is that message and nothing more. There are no more options to access.
I hope this device has a solution. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this. Thanks for reading.

I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for a week and so far I haven't found anything.
I installed several features through Download Mode, but none of them were recognized by the system (All features were compatible with the model). Some of these features were Custom Recovery ... TWRP ... CWM .. Custom ROMS ... etc. I installed all of them through Odin3, but after the process was over and the phone restarted it didn't install because it jumped straight to the Samsung screen again.
Since no option on the Hard Reset screen was showing up, I decided to press a few keys at random to try to access an option. After a few attempts I finally managed to see some information. Now I come across written information: '' E: failed to mount / efs (invalid argument) '' https://ibb.co/FmBtv10 (Error Image).
And this is where it gets worse, because I don't know what that means. The only things I have left on the device is that message and nothing more. There are no more options to access.
I hope this device has a solution. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this. Thanks for reading.

When flashing your firmware using odin, try ticking nand erase. Nand erase erases boot

Thank you for your attention in answering my question.
I checked the box that says '' Nand Erase All ''. After the Firmware was installed the phone restarted to the Samsung screen again .... so I think it didn't work. Correct would be to restart with the Android logo, correct?
I tried to mark the other options as well ... such as '' Phone Bootloader Update '' ... '' Phone EFS Clear '', but none of them worked. The biggest problem is the reboot, because the files are not being loaded by the system to be installed .... when Odin restarts the cell phone it goes straight to the Samsung screen and from there it keeps loading forever.
Am I using the wrong USB cable or is a PC feature missing? I use a Samsung cable and the Drivers are installed on Windows. Samsung driver version is 1.5.61.0.
I'll be waiting for another suggestion.

When flashing TWRP through odin, untick auto reboot, hold power Volume down and home button. You will see a black screen. Then immediately press power volume up home button. Then flash a custom rom. You ticked the bootloader update option, but Samsung core 2 doesn't have bootloader. Hope the nand erase fixed the mounting

Before I do this procedure I need to ask a few questions. Do I need any requirements to install TWRP? This phone has no ROOT and no other modifications.
Does the ROM that I am going to install need to be compatible with TWRP? I am trying to install an official Samsung ROM without modification.
I will try to use the version for the SM-G355H. The TWRP for this model is hard to find.
Just remembering that my recovery screen is dead, so I don't have access to anything in the device's Recovery options. I look forward to new answers so I can continue.

2. Every rom for your device is compatible.
Just a few questions,
After nand erase and firmware flash, do you still have a corrupted recovery?
Does the firmware that you are flashing, and the model number in Odin mode match?

I followed those instructions you sent me. I used a TWRP file for the model SM-G355H (I hope it is compatible with this model). The file is called '' recovery.tar.md5 ''. I opened Odin Version 3.0.9 and deactivated the '' Auto Reboot '' option. I passed the TWRP file to the cell phone and did the commands you sent me. The phone restarts with a brief Android screen for 3 seconds and disappears. There are no commands to do. It goes to the Samsung screen again. So I think it didn't work for me.
I hit the keys the same way you told me to (I hope Lol)
You told me to install the custom rom. Is this done after installing TWRP and the phone restarts?

Answering your first question: If you are referring to the error '' E: failed to mount / efs (invalid argument) '' yes. It appears after I press the volume button up or down as soon as the android screen appears (The recovery screen that appears only the symbol of the android lying with a red sign). I wish I could access this screen for a longer time, but it disappears quickly.
Answering your second question: I am using an official 4-part ROM. It corresponds to my country. SM-G355M G355MUBU0AQB1 ZTO G355MZTO0AQB1 OPEN BR ANDROID 4.4.2 FULL FLASH. The version of my Odin is 3.0.9. I heard that this version is the best for installing Android 4.4.2 KitKat systems, so I decided to use it.
Just one more question. Does the Cell Phone have to be 100% charged for this to work? I think I was at 60% when I tried the procedure.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to help me. I figured you were busy these days, so I left a message for you to see and remember POST.
I had seen this video on Youtube before, but I saw it again and followed all the steps. I used the two versions of the TWRP for the model SM-G355HN and G355H through the link you sent me, but neither of them is being recognized by the device. I tested other different CWM versions like:
philz_touch_5.15.0-n7100.tar
philz_touch_6.09.6-n8020.tar
philz_touch_6.57.9-ghost
All of them were not recognized and loaded in recovery mode.
I was confused by a specific part of the video. After the STOCK ROM was sent by Odin, the phone restarts. (At that moment there was a cut in the video). I couldn't see what he did, but I decided it was just to turn the device off and on again in download mode to pass the CWM/TWRP.
Is it possible that the system is blocking the files that I am sending? Maybe an FRP lock? I don't know much about the android system, but I suspect that the device's BIOS does not accept any features via download mode. FRP Lock is for Android from 5.0, correct? My Android is 4.4.2 KitKat.
I have already used the main versions of Odin, including the modified versions. I used about 5 different STOCK ROMS and about 10 different versions of TWRP and CWM. Nothing works! I'm getting upset. : (
I'm running out of options. If you have any more suggestions feel free to answer me. Don't be in a hurry ... answer when you can.

One this is certain, FRP can't make any difference. In the video, after the flashing is complete, he immediately turned the phone back in download mode and flashed the custom recovery. As no reocvey works, extract your recovery.img from your firmware and use this one click TWRP porting tool. You will have mount pint issues, but just follow the above video if you are able to successfully able to boot the twrp you ported with this tool https://firmwarecare.com/spreadtrum-auto-twrp-recovery-porter-v1-2

Thank you for sending the tool. This version does not support Android 4 KitKat. I downloaded version 1.0 (Version 1.0 supports Android 4). I used 3 Recovery.img files from 3 different STOCK ROMS and came across this error on Odin:

Would it work if I switched to Custom and then went back to Official again? (I'm just speculating. I don't know if that is valid or not.)

Try switching to custom and then official.
1) actually, if there is something wrong with just the /efs partition, it shouldn't affect the recovery
2) looks like many partitions are corrupted
4) core 2 has no bootloader or any such protection to stop flashing
5) the efs file is included in the firmware, so it is flashed with the firmware.
Conclusion - looks like multiple partions are corrupted. Try to verify this by flashing any custom recovery or rom and check the status in Odin. Even after flashing a custom recovery, the status is stock, then there are definitely many corrupted partitions. If it's so, fixing it will be very tough

Unfortunately nothing went right, friend. I tested everything I could. I have no other options left. All the procedures were done, I followed all your suggestions, but nothing works. There is no doubt that all partitions are corrupted. You told me it would be very difficult to fix it, so I'm not even going to try. I did as much as I could with this device. I am not qualified for this, I am just a lay person who is trying to solve a complex problem.

Just one more question: I don't know which ROM has been installed on this device previously and which Binary of FIRMWARE. Will the Device only accept a FIRMWARE that has exactly the '' Same '' binary? For example ... I have a ROM with the PDA binary G355MUBS0AQC2 .... Will the System only accept exactly this value so that it can be installed?
I forgot to ask this at the beginning.

Sorry, I have no knowledge of using tools or fixing a device by repairing the hardware. Using the wrong binary doesn't make a difference on these older devices.
