HELP Please...
My understanding of the below thread is that I'd be rooting my phone with a pretty close to stock rom. My phone is currently not rooted.
In this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-t3060130/post59578778?nocache=1#post59578778
step #6 I have no advanced wipe option, nor do I have the install option. What did I do wrong? I'd like to root my phone using his close to stock rom from the link above. I figured I needed another recovery mode instead of the stock one, so I downloaded odin, and then TWRP. I went into download mode, and supposedly installed TWRP. However when I hold power + up + home it goes into the stock recovery mode....what gives?
My recovery mode looks like this:
Android system recovery
LRX22C.N910PVPU1BOB7
Volume up/down to select.
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
apply update from cache
wipe data/ factory reset
wipe cache partition
reboot to bootloader
power down
view recovery logs
enable cp logging
disable cp logging
Your help is most appreciated...
Anyone? I just wiped out my data (backed up of course) but basically have no phone to use until I continue with rooting. However..I am unable to install "Stock_Rooted_NoKnox_N910PSPT1BOB7_DEODEXED" because I can't perform the suggested advanced wipe, nor do I have the install option when booting into recovery mode...when trying to install from SD (which is where I placed the "Stock_Rooted_NoKnox_N910PSPT1BOB7_DEODEXED" I got an error stating something to the affect that it was not a genuine or valid image (don't recall the exact error message). So basically the phone ended up doing a factory reset, and I'm back at square one again. To validate that it is back to stock, I tried to install chainfire's SU, and no sticky bit could be found Also knox has not been tripped yet because its still 0x0. I've rooted in the past on previous phones, so I'm not sure why I'm missing the recovery options I need.

Hi,
Looks like you're using Stock Recovery. Get a copy of TWRP (it should be trltespr and must be in .tar format) But before doing it so, root your device first using CF Auto Root. You need Samsung USB Drivers, and Debugging mode to be enabled on Developer Options.
Samsung USB Drivers -> Technical Documentation | SAMSUNG Developers
CF Auto Root -> CF-Root Download <- for Android 4.4.4 KitKat only!
TWRP -> Download TWRP for trltespr <- be sure to download .tar file to be flashed in ODIN.
First of all, is to enable Debugging mode. Go to Settings -> About device and tap 7 times on Build number. After doing it, go to Developer options and tick USB debugging.
Extract USB drivers and install it.
Extract Auto Root.
Reboot your phone to Download mode using combination of Power+Home+Volume(-) button.
Open ODIN and choose Auto Root file (.tar.md5 format) in AP.
Hit Start button and wait until device reboot to Recovery mode and installing root files.
After device rebooted, you should see SuperSU app. If you see it, your phone is now rooted.
Reboot your phone back to Download mode. Open ODIN once again and choose the TWRP file (.tar format) in AP.
Hit Start button. After finished reboot to Recovery and TWRP should be installed.
Note:
Doing it so will void your warranty (as KNOX Warranty Void will set to 0x1).
Hope this helps.
Thanks...this did help...and I thought I clicked save a long time ago but I guess I didn't. TWRP in place, and root was successful. Now hopefully Xposed framework will catch up to lollipop so I can run X-Privacy again.

There is an unofficial Xposed for Samsung TouchWiz Lollipop. You can grab it one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3113463
Hello,
XDA, would it be possible to look into rooting a Samsung Note Edge (SM-N915T) with Marshmallow 6.0.1. I've tried different things, but there doesn't seem to be a process for this phone with that OS.
Let me know.
Thanks,

you should flash via Odin for CWM and pull out battery method if notified FAIL, also cautioned about the SUPERSU must be 2.76 which patched the Samsung security updated, i was success rooted my Sprint 915P FW6.0.1 dueto this way
I rooted my phone following this procedure (the FY version of the Note Edge but should work for any other)
You need the following tools:
Samsung drivers:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3d61st8zaxas4pt/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_1_5_6_0.exe?dl=0
Odin 3:09:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ua0sqizz1m6558d/Odin3_v3.09.zip?dl=0
SuperSU 2.74:
https://download.chainfire.eu/964/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328.zip?retrieve_file=1
and CWM for the T version of the Note (from this thread):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...15s-n9150-cwm-based-recovery-6-0-5-1-t2954960
Move all files to a folder on the PC.
Copy the SuperSU your Cell (SD card int/ext).
Install the drivers for the phone.
Then go with the phone in the DL (download) mode.
Start Odin, connect the phone to the PC.
If Odin recognizes the cell phone continue.
Some side notes:
To get in DL (download) mode use key combination <VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER>.
To get in recovery mode use key combination <UP VOL + HOME + POWER>.
Press these buttons simultaneously.
You flash CWM in DL mode via Odin (in "AP" insert CWM) to the mobile phone.
It is important that you previously deactivate "Auto Reboot" in Odin.
When the flash process is finished, you just wait one minute after you have pressed the "Start", pull the cable from the phone and remove the battery.
Wait a couple seconds, and put the battery back inside.
Now, and this is important, you have to come directly into recovery mode.
If the phone starts normally into the system, CWM is overwritten with the standard recovery.
If you're in CWM, you go to "Install zip" and select the SuperSU to install.
ATTENTION: if CWM asks you to install root or SuperSU, answer with NO, else you get a bootloop!
Now you can Restart, normal into the system.
That's it already, if you're in the system, you install this app from Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummyapps.rootchecker
When you got root just update SuperSU and install busybox and you are good to go

Would this work with N915F International?
Thanks,
If we already have recovery do we still need to step backwards and install cwm, also do we just not let supersu update to 2.79 and leave it at 2.74 or 2.76?
I appear to only have partial root, none of the app's are [rompting me to grant or deny supersu.
Will this thing work is twrp latest recovery installed??

Nope
here`s the twrp for j23g
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...p-3-0-2-1-samsung-galaxy-j2-sm-j200h-t3486994
and for root Just use magisk, it works on almost all smartphones and has much more features.
problems faced and solns found
1. During twrp flashing using odin, my stock recovery kept patching the twrp after reboots. So i couldn't install twrp succesfully. To fix this I unchecked "reboot" option in odin (thanks to another xda rooting guide)and switched off device manually after flashing. Then booted into recovery by pressing "home+vol up+power". this time stock rom was gone and twrp was there to welcome me.
2. i ended up in a bootloop after flashing the aforementioned superuser zip file. Instead i flashed BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328.zip and fixed the bootloop.
Note- My device is Samsung Galaxy j200-G.

Works perfect and love having TWRP just for everyone else DO NOT use the 1st link it will download the G935V firmware which will not flash for the S7 flat.
Brother, you might want to check your zips. Your sm_g930_oreo root/unroot zip is missing the BL_ENTER_ENG_RECOVERY_G93*.tar and instead has BL_ENG_BOOTLOADERS_G930?? Also, your S7_G930V Flat Odin Firmware links to the G935V firmware and will not flash obviously to the S7 flat. Kinda important files if you want to use this. I was going to try to unroot and update to the Oct security patch and thank God I checked the required files before starting.
Sorry, stupid question I can't find an answer to. How do I tell what bootloader I am on?

what does post 2 say. If you dont want to be stuck on stock then you are done with updates the firmware in the OP is it that the last firmware that can be rooted
Yeah I know and saw that the 5th character had the 8 so it is a secure bootloader. Trust me, I went back and forth about root and no root. I decided that what little bit I was rooting for wasnt worth the hit I took as far as speed, heat, and battery. So far I am enjoying stock with the Oct security patch. If I get root in the future I may try it but for now I can run my themes and life is good, thanks brother.

Don’t get your expectations up it still uses the engboot for root. I just made it easy to unroot so you can use stock boot. Img

Oh okay. I will have to do some reading on Eng Boot. I'm not educated on what that exactly means. I did successfully use your root method and got to play in twrp which was really cool. I really like the adb tools setup. I'm having a hard time with the debloating. I'm trying to find out what files to remove and keep. The system is very slow rooted. I hope I'm not debloating wrong. Sorry I'm semi new at this.
Just be careful what you debloat. What I would do is go into settings/apps and disable anything you think is bloat then see if the phone runs differently for a day or so. Somethings you think wouldn't affect the running of the system do. That way if it does affect something you can go back in and enable it.

I went ahead and used stock files in Odin to flash everything back to normal. I went ahead and tried the disable method with it unrooted of course. It is running so smooth now. On top of it all the Samsung apps work which I like.
I learned yesterday after all day battling the rooted way deleting bloat that you are correct. There are issues from deleting things that you think would never cause issues. My phone instantly would lock up and the battery was draining super fast. It was not worth it.
I will take your advice. Thank you!!

So what kinds of things would I be able to do with root that wouldn't get changed back once I unroot?

That is good advice. I used the 'pm uninstall' method to debloat tons of Samsung stuff. Now I occasionally get random battery drains. Time to factory reset. I should have just left it, because my wife has an international Exynos S7 with nothing debloated, and it runs perfect.

As long as you are v4 bootloader

Hey everyone.
I have recently rooted and installed the Pixel experience 9 custom ROM on my S7 edge.
Even though I am confident in Installing ROMs and using TWRP I always like to have a check on the net to see the best way of doing stuff. When checking I found that there were so many different guides that the process became more confusing than it needed to be and it caused issues when I was trying install the ROM.
So I have decided to write out a guide to help everyone in the future.
Note. I am in UK using a Exynos version of the S7 edge. I believe there is a complication with the USA Snapdragon version.
Also this is done at your own risk and I am not responsible for any damage, errors or bricked devices. This will also void the warranty of your device.
What will you need
1. A computer with a SD card slot (if you don't have a slot you can usb a usb adaptor)
2. The latest version of ODIN
3. Your chosen ROM zip
4. Magisk Root zip
5. The correct TWRP file for your S7 or S7 edge
6.The latest version of your Stock firmware (this is in case something goes wrong)
7. A spare micro SD card with SD card adaptor
8. Micro USB cable (charging cable usually does the job)
9. Samsung Device drivers
This guide will be split in to 4 parts with some additional notes at the end.
Part 1- on your PC
Part 2- on your mobile
Part 3- In ODIN mode
Part 4- In TWRP
On your PC
1. Download and install the latest version of ODIN to your PC. https://samsungodin.com/
2. Download and install the Samsung Device drivers.
3. Download the correct TWRP version for your phone. https://twrp.me/
4. Now Download your root file, I used to Magisk root but there is super SU as well. I was told that Super SU is dated compared to Magisk.
https://www.xda-developers.com/magisk-v17-1-android-pie-a-b-support/
5. Now download your chosen ROM. There is lots of different ROMs for the S7 and S7 edge. In my case I decided to go with Pixel experience 9, it's basically a Pixel 3 ROM that runs Android P but it's up to you.
6. Go to Sammobile and download the stock Firmware for your device. The download takes ages so I would just leave this download in the background and continue to the next step (You shouldn't need this file but you will need it something goes wrong)
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
7. Put your micro SD into your adaptor then insert into your PC into your SD card slot, then copy the ROM Download and the Root download SD card to the card.
8. Open ODIN and put the TWRP file on the AP section, then uncheck re-partition.
On Your Phone.
1. Before plugging up to the PC there are something to do first. The first thing to do is enter developer options by taping build number 7 times. Then check USB debugging and then check OEM unlocking.
2. Back up your data with Samsung backup and Google backup, both found in the settings.
3. If you already have a SD card inside your phone remove it and put it somewhere safe.
4. Power off your device and Boot in to ODIN mode (volume down, home button and power at the sametime)
In ODIN mode (READ THIS CAREFULLY)
1. BEFORE pressing start on your computer, hold volume up and home button.
2. Now press start on the computer, keep your fingers on the volume button up button and home button. Let the PC and Phone start it's process.
3. The moment the phone screen goes black. Press and hold the power but while keeping your fingers on the volume up and home button.
4. Keep all the buttons held down (volume up, home button and power button) till you see the TWRP screen boot.
In TWRP.
1. Once TWRP boots you will see a screen it will say "swipe to allow modifications" DON'T swipe just press "read only"
2. Press wipe and then press format data. Once the wipe is complete DO NOT swipe to reboot. (You will get yourself stuck in a boot loop) press the TWRP home icon instead.
3. Press Reboot then press recovery this will complete the installation of TWRP (if you press anything else you will get stuck in a boot loop)
4. Allow TWRP to reboot. You will be presented with the "swipe allow modifications" check the do not show again box and swipe.
5. Now insert your Micro SD card with the downloaded files.
6. Press wipe, then press advanced and check cashe and
dalvik cashe. Then Press TWRP Home icon
7. Press install and navigate to SD card. Then press the on the Magisk file and swipe, allow the process to finish and press wipe cache and Dalvik cashe.
8. Press TWRP home icon and press install and navigate back to SD card. Then press your ROM file and swipe again. Once it's finished press wipe cashe and Dalvik cashe. Then swipe to reboot.
9. Re-insert your memo card you were using before. (Not the one with the downloads on, the one with your photos and music and stuff)
10. BOOM your done. Happy days with your new ROM.
Few last things
the ROM I installed had G-apps preinstalled with the ROM, but if your ROM has no G-apps then once you booted, download G-apps from your ROMs browser and flash them with TWRP.
If you get stuck in a boot loop use your stock firmware file and Odin to reinstall the stock firmware and try the whole process again.
This method uses SD card to install the files in TWRP but I believe you can just copy the files via your PC directly to your phone at point 5 in the TWRP part of the guide. I had a spare card so I used a card.
The principal of this guide can be applied to other Samsung devices but newer device then the S7 and S7 edge have more factors to take note of, so some research will be required.
Remember
this is done at your own risk and I am not responsible for any damage, errors or bricked devices. This will also void the warranty of your device.
Hope this guide works well for you.

I don't think this was a big issue with S7E but I know the S8 and onwards have extra encryption protection and 24 hour jailbait locks.
I have rooted my S7E a few times and it's never been an issue for me.
Sometimes the USA Snapdragon versions have extra encryption as well.
Thanks for reply.
In a few days I will try to root.
Fingers Crossed!
( I do have the Exynos S7 Edge G935F)
Also have a newer stock Oreo 8.0.0, unrooted. Thats the part I hear is giving people problems. Something about after flashing TWRP you get a fail to mount the data partition .... or something like that. Something to do with quotas
Heimdell vs odin
I wonder why most people use odin.
The official lineage OS installation instruction recommends heimdell. https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/hero2lte/install
So what is the difference ? Heimdell vs odin

ODIN is made by Samsung developers and Hiemdell is a 3rd party option. They both do the same thing but some say that Heimdell is safer, easier and faster.
Personally I use Odin because I have got used to it and it has never let me down.
I mostly use it to install Stock UK firmware on cheaper Samsung phones that are from overseas.
Hello,
Thanks for your guide but I think there are too much steps, you can do it easier.
You can keep your sd card in the phone to transfer the ROM and magisk.
You can uncheck reboot in Odin instead doing this hard combination of "keep pressing volume up and power + press start on your computer at the same time", or let reboot checked, pressing start and keep pressing power+home+volume up when the screen turning off.
Even if you're in a bootloop, you can go back in recovery by forcing the phone to reboot (power+home+volume down) and when you see the Samsung logo (splahscreen) you keep pressing power+home+volume up until you see twrp screen appears.
Sorry men, it's not against you or your guide but to help beginners, we are always scared when we see a long and complicate list of steps, especially when we don't know.
But it's nice to share the links of the necessary tools to avoid searching everywhere :good:
And don't worry guys, if you do something wrong you can easily restore the stock firmware, it's very hard to brick a Samsung device, just be sure to get the last version of TWRP for the good model and the ROM corresponding to this model too.
I flashed my S7Edge the day I bought it without stress, take your time, read the tutorials and try to understand what you are going to do before doing it and all will be fine.
The simple version (IDK if it's better) is :
1 : Install Samsung drivers
2 : Copy ROM + magisk + noverity zips on sdcard
3 : Go into download mode (Power off phone and keep pressing power+home+volume down until the blue screen and follow the steps on the screen)
4 : Open Odin (last version), connect your phone to the computer, uncheck reboot box and flash TWRP on AP case
5 : Reboot on TWRP (keep pressing power+home+volume down until you see Samsung logo, and directly keep pressing power+home+volume up until you see TWRP screen)
6 : Wipe everything except sdcard + format data + (optionally) flash noverity zip
7 : Flash the ROM
8 : Reboot to system, configure the rom and wait some minutes to let the ROM create dalvik cache.
9 : Reboot normally and wait some minutes.
10 : Reboot to TWRP
11 : Flash Magisk zip (IMPORTANT ! Don't Flash Magisk just after the ROM, first boot on the ROM without root and reboot one time at least before to avoid lags in the system due to dalvik cache ! Steps 7 and 8)
12 : Reboot to system and install magisk manager apk
13 : I'm not superstitious but there is not step 13, you are done, enjoy !
Don't forget, don't flash Magisk directly after the ROM or you'll get a laggy ROM.
Just boot without flashing magisk and let the ROM doing his work in background during some minutes (5 to 10 minutes should be good), and do another reboot.
After that you can flash Magisk.

Cheers for helping my out, my guide has a lot of steps as I literally wrote what I did every step.
I was going for a guide that spelt out every single detail for the less experienced people. I glad to see you approve of my links.
Great guide though, great that both guides can complement each others.

You are right ! And your guide is more complete than mine, I don't talk about going into developers options to enable oem unlock etc, I wrote this too fast and too late

You can use this method for Snapdragon, but Snapdragon phones in certain regions have a built jailbreak that can complicate things. There are ways around it but as I am in a region that sell exynos then i have no experience with the Snapdragon Variant. ?

sorry but know i lost twrp what am i doing wrong SM-G935F s7edge
is anyone going to help me or u just like the other sites dont reply i need this info asap its only reason i rooted was to use custom rom oh also turmux
Hey
Sorry I have been busy.
Best option is to flash the firmware and start again. Follow the steps of original comment.
Remember when you boot in to TWRP straight after installing it...then wipe all your data then press reboot and reboot back into RECOVERY....once your done this you have completed the install of TWRP.
Once that is all done....wipe your cashe davalik data and then insert your memory card with the custom Rom and Magisk root inside. Install Magisk first...then the ROM.
Once this is done wipe cashe/davalik data once more and reboot, your custom ROM should load up...once the ROM loads install the Magisk root manager and latest update for the root.
Other things to check have you installed the correct TWRP and correct custom Rom for your device.
Also check your customs ROM feed on XDA to see if anyone has issued like this on there as well, if so there might be specific answer to your issue there.
Hope this helps sorry for the delay

Your certainly not wrong there. confusing isn't the word I would choose more like frustrating to hell. I'm new to this and I can't even get out the starting gate lol every time I move one step forward I move two steps back and that's no joke.
I can't read any more tutorials there coming out my ears it's just adding to the confusion I'm completely lost now. can't even pick a custom rom that's a headache for another time I was just wanting to root the phone but was told stock roms are temperamental and custom roms was the way forward. all I keep reading is tutorials telling you to down load files but never a mentioning once if they should be in zip format as downloaded or unpacked? then providing links to other files taht are in apk file! like Magisk. but continue to about the file as though it were a zip! as noob it's frustrating to keep asking for help and every key stroke at least for me anyway you feel like a pain in the rear! so for now I'm throwing in the towel at least I know one thing that works. giving up lol.
