[SM-N900] How to downgrade from 5.0/4.4.2 to 4.4.2/4.3 - Galaxy Note 3 General

WARNING! THIS WILL BREAK YOUR WARRANTY! I HOLD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR BRICKS, BOOTLOOPS, ETC. IF YOU END UP HAVING A 500 DOLLAR BRICK, IT IS NOT MY FAULT AS YOU ARE THE ONE WHO DECIDED TO DO THIS PROCEDURE!!!!!!
THIS GUIDE IS FOR THE SM-N900. IF YOU TRY THIS ON ANY OTHER DEVICE, YOU WILL 99.99999% CHANCE OF BRICK!!!!(NO SM-N9005, N900V, ETC.)
Hey guys, so many of you are wondering if you can downgrade from 5.0 to 4.4.2 or from 4.4.2 to 4.3. I see many people say this is not possible, but it is!
you'll require:
A windows machine with a sensible version of windows (no windows 95, 98, etc.. )
OR
A mac that either dual boot windows and os x or running windows in a virtual machine (this is what I'm doing)
Odin - Download here
A SM-N900 device running 5.0 or 4.42
A stable internet connection
USB Debugging enabled on your device. If you don't know how to enable it, check here
Boot loader: http://www.mediafire.com/?edp1iw3qzwhtoij (Only if you're downgrading to 4.3!)
7-Zip - Download here (WinRAR WILL NOT work)
SamFirm - Download here
And last but not least....
A brain
Okay, let's get on with this.
STEP 1:
Download and install everything I listed above!
Back-up all data on your device.
Unzip SamFirm and Odin to respective folders on the desktop
Open SamFirm by double clicking on the exe
You will be greeted with the application. You now need to specify what firmware you want to download. Enter the model name as SM-N900 (All caps!). Next, you'll be prompted to enter your region. For downgrading to 4.3, enter XFU as the region. For 4.4.2, enter BTC. Don't check binary nature and select auto mode. On the right, select decrypt automatically and then press download.
The firmware will now begin downloading. Wait for the download to complete.
STEP 2 (Only if you're downgrading to 4.3! If you're downgrading to 4.4.2, go to step 4) :
Power off the device. Boot to recovery by holding home, power and volume up at the same time. Do a factory reset. Power off the device again and boot to download mode by holding the volume down, home and power buttons. You will be greeted with a warning. Press continue. Open odin and wait for odin to recognize your device. Select the BL tab and select the bootloader.tar that you downloaded. Next, go to the options tab and unselect auto reboot. Then start the flashing process. DO NOT SHUT DOWN YOUR COMPUTER, PHONE OR UNPLUG THE DEVICE DURING THIS PROCESS!
Once the flash has completed, shut down the device and reboot to download mode.
STEP 3:
Next, take the decrypted zip you downloaded. Open the zip with 7ZIP. Extract the tar.md5 file and open that with 7ZIP. Extract the contents of the tar.md5 file. Delete the sboot.bin, then rezip. Select all the extracted files and right click. Click 7-ZIP > add to archive. Select archive type as tar and then recompress.
STEP 4: Go back to odin, and press reset. Go to the AP tab and select the new tar you just created or if you're downgrading to 4.4.2, select the tar.md5 extracted from the zip. Wait for odin to process the file. It may appear that odin has hanged. This is normal. Wait for it process the file. This time, select auto-reboot from the options tab. Then, start the flash. This flash with take a minute or two. After it finishes flashing, the device will automatically reboot. After the splash screen, it may appear that the device has hanged due to the black screen. Wait for a few seconds, and the startup animation will play as usual. At this point, you should be successfully downgraded!
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE MOBILE NETWORK OR IMEI ISSUES, THEN FLASH THIS OR THIS MODEM IN CWM OR TWRP
If this helped you, please press thanks.

How could this be adapted to work on N900t? And do you have pics to confirm that you got bootloader back to 4.3? I thought that was not possible
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk 2

Sorry the n900t is a snapdragons device so it will not work
I am on kitkat right now. I upgraded from 4.3 to 4.4.2 again so I cannot 0ost the pictures. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the quick reply. But I thought it was impossible on all note 3's so it was worth finding out

Bootloader download page asks for decryption key. Please upload it to another file hosting site. Thanks. And as you have downgraded to 4.3 is the battery life better than kitkat or lollipop?

Sorry about that I updated the link. Battery life on 4.3 was good.

Followed all the instruction properly. Flashing Bootloader failed the first time as I used Odin 3.7. Flashed with Odin 3.10 and it worked. Flashing the repackaged tar file didnt work twice. It always got stuck while flashing. Then I used Peazip to repackage and it successfully flashed with Odin.
OP please upload the modem to another site as well. Am stuck without mobile network :/
Tl;dr Successfully downgraded to 4.3. Almost.

Modem mirror http://www.mediafire.com/download/bccb9e832hldrhm/N900_XXUENE1_MODEM_CWM.zip

thx! work for me

Are you sure that if I did this way and I lose the IMEI and after that I flash The Modem.
it will succeed?

Yes. I lost the IMEI at first but then i flashed the 4.3 modem and everything worked again.

Hi, I tried to do this to downgrade mi N900. I followed every step, everything work fine (supposed).
After I flashed the moded 4.3 firm (without sboot) my phone died, first time boot show something about a kernel error
Now I can't go into download mode or recovery mode.... It just says "Samsung note 3" and reboots 2 o 3 times and thats all. It doesn't even show that the battery is charging...
The steps i did ->
Downloaded Firm from sammobile -> SM-N900_XFU_1_20131129160104_fifz3b44bv
Downloaded 7 ZIP
Downloaded Bootloader.tar (From the post)
Flashed Bootloader.tar -> OK
Open firm with 7 zip, erased sboot.bin -> recompress to tar -> OK
Flashed recompressed TAR without sboot.bin -> OK
Firts boot -> Black screen with red letters saying something about a Kernel Error
Second boot -> Shows "Samsung Galaxy Note 3" (like usual) reboot, shows the samething again and reboot and then power off
I tried to go into recovery mode -> FAIL
Tried to go into download mode -> FAIL
Can anyone here help me ?

[help] i9003 stuck in boot loop

HI,
i've been wanting to root and install custom roms on the i9003. i finally got the courage to try to root and do all these things recently, so i rooted the phone using superoneclick.. but i didnt know what to do next, because i wanted to try out custom roms because of what i have been reading on the forums.
so i followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19442301&postcount=1 and flashed the bagaria.tar found here using ODIN.
but it started looping and kept rebooting over and over again. and got stuck in bootloop. eventually it came up and would respond a bit before going back to the booting sequence, and i noticed that opening CWM automatically sent the phone to booting.
thinking that i did something wrong and afraid that i bricked the device i went to this thread and looked for the dxkp9 stock and used odin with it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004647)
it just is stuck on boot loop now.
i've tried removing the battery and trying holding the VOLup home and power to no avail.
its just stuck in boot loop.
It is currently stuck in boot loop and wont do anything. i am really hoping it can still be fixed.. a bit of a sentimental value since this was a phone given to me by my dad, and first smartphone as well..
i would be very grateful for any kind of help.

Greetings;
I didnt read all the stuff before...
So my answer may not be the best or accurate. (I'm almost out of time - sorry for that).
Either ways this happens to me when you don't perform a clean Flash (Formating Partitions before Flashing, wiping dalvik and cache) and after Flashing; performing a Factory Reset).
After the last step (Factory Reset) it should boot properly.
If not: Remove Battery, place it back and test if it boots.
From my experience: Downgrading ROM also do this issue. But i fix it by Flashing FULL DDLF2 (always with "clean flash") and then after my ROM Boots; Flashing the ROM i want to use.
Hope this helps.
When i flashed the first step my gt i9003 sl went completely blank except a bright light. Any solution or suggestiom

That screen is for flash external things like custom recovery, stock firmware (original), bootloader, Modem etc.
This is not for downloading with internet,
& for Odin- first you need download stock firmware of your device the from sammobile website, downloaded file is in Zip format, have to extract it first you will get 'your firmware name.tar.md5 file , install usb driver on PC, then open odin 1st, then connect mobile in download mode you should see in above column 0:[COM-] & in log you will receive 'Added' message something like this it will confirm that your mobile is connected successfully, then in Odin select PDA or AP section select your extracted tar.md5 file, wait sometime for loading tar.md5 file in odin again you will see the file is added in log section then finally you can hit start button...
Wait till receive pass message or this will reboot automatically your device.
Best luck

From trying to reboot normally, pressing the vol+ power and home or vol- power and home; all i get is the text. at least if i can truly get into the regular download mode (the one with android logo and progress bar) i can flash properly. even kies could not do anything. even tried z3x samsung tools (can't detect the phone).

Nope
here`s the twrp for j23g
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...p-3-0-2-1-samsung-galaxy-j2-sm-j200h-t3486994
and for root Just use magisk, it works on almost all smartphones and has much more features.
problems faced and solns found
1. During twrp flashing using odin, my stock recovery kept patching the twrp after reboots. So i couldn't install twrp succesfully. To fix this I unchecked "reboot" option in odin (thanks to another xda rooting guide)and switched off device manually after flashing. Then booted into recovery by pressing "home+vol up+power". this time stock rom was gone and twrp was there to welcome me.
2. i ended up in a bootloop after flashing the aforementioned superuser zip file. Instead i flashed BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328.zip and fixed the bootloop.
Note- My device is Samsung Galaxy j200-G.

Works perfect and love having TWRP just for everyone else DO NOT use the 1st link it will download the G935V firmware which will not flash for the S7 flat.
Brother, you might want to check your zips. Your sm_g930_oreo root/unroot zip is missing the BL_ENTER_ENG_RECOVERY_G93*.tar and instead has BL_ENG_BOOTLOADERS_G930?? Also, your S7_G930V Flat Odin Firmware links to the G935V firmware and will not flash obviously to the S7 flat. Kinda important files if you want to use this. I was going to try to unroot and update to the Oct security patch and thank God I checked the required files before starting.
Sorry, stupid question I can't find an answer to. How do I tell what bootloader I am on?

what does post 2 say. If you dont want to be stuck on stock then you are done with updates the firmware in the OP is it that the last firmware that can be rooted
Yeah I know and saw that the 5th character had the 8 so it is a secure bootloader. Trust me, I went back and forth about root and no root. I decided that what little bit I was rooting for wasnt worth the hit I took as far as speed, heat, and battery. So far I am enjoying stock with the Oct security patch. If I get root in the future I may try it but for now I can run my themes and life is good, thanks brother.

11. When phone reboots to recovery you will get no command error then when phone shows recovery options in black box at very botton it should say Successfully verified. If it says unsuccessful or failed then start at number 5 again. If successful and on oreo you are done.
12. If on Nougat and successful from recovery reboot to bootloader in Odin BL slot flash BL_NOUGAT_STOCK_G93*.tar
To Reroot Your Phone
1. Reboot to download in Odin AP slot flash AP_ROOT_G93***.tar
2. Phone will reboot then will reboot one more time and you will be rerooted
To Enter TWRP When Rooted
Remember with Nougat TWRP cannot mount data because of encryption so some zips wont work
1. Manually reboot phone to recovery launch Setup.exe in the S7_S7E_ROOT_UNROOT_ADB_TOOLS folder and choose Option(1) Launch TWRP
2. To Exit TWRP simply choose reboot
To Enter TWRP When Unrooted
Remember with Nougat TWRP cannot mount data because of encryption so some zips wont work
1. Put phone in download mode In Odin AP slot flash AP_ROOT_G93***.tar force phone to reboot to recovery. If you let phone boot it will reroot and you will have to run the unroot from the root control app.
2. In recovery launch Setup.exe in the S7_S7E_ROOT_UNROOT_ADB_TOOLS folder and choose Option(1) Launch TWRP.
3. Do whatever you need too do
4. To exit Twrp choose reboot to Download
5. In Odin BL slot choose the BL_G93*_DELETE_CACHE.tar and flash phone will reboot to recovery and say processing update then get an error and strart rebooting recovery
6. Let recovery bootloop at least once thin force phone back to download mode
7. In Odin AP slot flash BL_ENTER_ENG_RECOVERY_G930.tar and flash phone will reboot to recovery with a bunch of red cache errors
8. In recovery choose wipe cache then reboot back to bootloader from recovery
9. In Odin BL slot choose BL_OREO_STOCK_G93*.tar for Oreo or BL_RESET_DM_VERITY_G93*.tar for Nougat and flash
10. This is important as soon as odin is done flashing and phone powers off immediately hold buttons to force phone to recovery

If this works your a genius!! I'm going to try it first thing when I get home if no one complains of issues. I have all the stock crI1 Odin files I extracted from verizons recovery utility so no matter what I can fix it. So I cant wait to try this! I will donate if this works.

Don’t get your expectations up it still uses the engboot for root. I just made it easy to unroot so you can use stock boot. Img

Oh okay. I will have to do some reading on Eng Boot. I'm not educated on what that exactly means. I did successfully use your root method and got to play in twrp which was really cool. I really like the adb tools setup. I'm having a hard time with the debloating. I'm trying to find out what files to remove and keep. The system is very slow rooted. I hope I'm not debloating wrong. Sorry I'm semi new at this.
Just be careful what you debloat. What I would do is go into settings/apps and disable anything you think is bloat then see if the phone runs differently for a day or so. Somethings you think wouldn't affect the running of the system do. That way if it does affect something you can go back in and enable it.

I went ahead and used stock files in Odin to flash everything back to normal. I went ahead and tried the disable method with it unrooted of course. It is running so smooth now. On top of it all the Samsung apps work which I like.
I learned yesterday after all day battling the rooted way deleting bloat that you are correct. There are issues from deleting things that you think would never cause issues. My phone instantly would lock up and the battery was draining super fast. It was not worth it.
I will take your advice. Thank you!!

So what kinds of things would I be able to do with root that wouldn't get changed back once I unroot?

That is good advice. I used the 'pm uninstall' method to debloat tons of Samsung stuff. Now I occasionally get random battery drains. Time to factory reset. I should have just left it, because my wife has an international Exynos S7 with nothing debloated, and it runs perfect.

dual speaker mod and host file adblock are a couple of things.
Will this work on G930U model? (I assume so, but better to confirm...)

Need to get back to 100% stock

My note 5 has been in a sort of root/not root limbo where I haven't bothered to update or do anything with it and I just want to get it back to stock. All I remember is that I need a stock rom and a kernel, but it's been so long that I don't remember everything. Anyone wanna help me get back to a usable stock state?
tldr: You will need a computer for this, download n920T Stock firmware from here and then odin it.
Preparation Steps:
1) Back Up all your Personal Data( if you are running TWRP it is recommended to Backup EFS partition and keep a copy somewhere safe)
2) If you are previously running a custom rom you should wipe your System and data partition in TWRP otherwise it will not boot after this.
Actual Steps:
1) Download the stock firmware for N920T only from here .
2) Download Odin from here
3) unzip zip file and run Odin.
4) unzip the stock firmware and extract the ".tar.md5" file.
5) now in Odin on the right side, click on AP button and select the file you extracted in step 4. (if odin goes unresponsive leave it for 5 minutes it will be back after fully loading )
6) assuming you have backedup all your important data now turn off your phone and restart it in download mode by pressing (power and home and volume down button)
7) Press volume up if it gives a warning and enter download mode.
8) now connect your phone with your computer and you will see on top left a box in Id:com will turn blue with your port number written on it.
9) DO NOT change any setting from options tab.
10) Press Start you will see progress and once its done, phone will restart.
I keep getting an invalid error when I try to download that firmware. I crashed my n920t and been trying to flash a firmware to get it back but the only thing working or flashing in Odin is twrp. but I can't get it to boot in twrp. any ideas?
