Hello
I bought Mate 30 pro 5G LIO N29 three weeks ago and I been having really annoying issues with push notifications from lot of list of apps, its actually weird that there's just Whatsapp and other Huawei apps have push notifications working but not for so many others.
I sideloaded apps and they all up to date, I made sure the app have all permission needed, app launch is set to manual and everything is active there, in Battery optimization I set "Not allowed" for these apps, I enabled "Stay active when device sleeps"... I dont know what else I can do there....
so apps list is what I can actually remember now: Skype, Discord, LINE chat, SofaScore, LiveScore, Amazon Shopping, Reddit, Twitch, and few more....
So while I have these apps running, I can get notification while using them, but the moment I go to home screen or just lock the phone, its absolutely dead. and nothing work at all, except Huawei apps and whatsapp, I even restored my phone factory settings couple of times and installed only Skype just for testing but still no push notifications there
Phone is is updated to this day, Android 10 December 1, 2019, EMUI 10.0.0.192 patch02
if someone please could help me figure this out.... I would really really appreciate it <3
I read that you have sideloaded apps.
One question: Have you sideloaded GMS?
Quite a fine bit of apps, depends on GMS for push notification.
After sideloading GMS, allow all permission for google play services and set "not allowed" in battery optimization. Other apps you can leave them as "allowed".

Man, I would never ever thought these apps would need GMS in order for them to have push notifications working, I just sideloaded GMS and everything working fine! didn't even need to do any of battery optimization or app launch stuffs at all, Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! :good:
It would really suck if you cant sideload GMS on this phone, apparently too many apps depend on that.
I have side loaded Google services, stopped battery optimisation for apps and manual launch as well. But still not getting notified from alot of apps. ?

Notification fix from 4pda forum
To the necessary application: a) give — all rights, and b) allow, for it — all notifications, in “Settings”; 2) Put the necessary application, under the “lock”, in the background (in “Running applications”, pull the shortcut of the Required applications down and let go);
3) Launch of the Required application — disable automatic control, launch only in manual mode (for it, activate all three “check-boxes”: 1) Autostart, 2) Indirect launch, 3) Work in the background), in: " Manager ">" Launch applications ";
4) "Settings"> "Applications"> submenu "More"> "Show system"> "Google Service Framework"> "Rights"> "Other rights" and activate the items: "View instant messages" and "Add instant messages";
5) "Settings"> "Battery"> "Other battery settings" - turn on WI-FI and data transfer when the screen is off and in sleep mode (for work, in the background);
6) "Settings"> "Applications"> "Required application"> "Traffic statistics"> Turn on "Ignore data traffic" (bottom);
7) "Settings"> "Wireless networks"> "Traffic statistics"> "Smart traffic saving" - disable;
8) For the desired application, allow to ignore battery optimization (in the "Special Access");
9) Power saving mode ("Settings"> "Battery") - disable;
10 "Settings"> "System"> "For Developers" -include: "Permanent data transfer";
11) Make sure that the desired application is not in the list of "inactive applications" ("Settings"> "System"> "For Developers"> "Inactive Applications"). Change its state (on-active), if necessary.

I have got mate 30 pro. I installed gms. but I dont take notifications apps. Please help me. I installed a lot of gms but not working push notifications
Did you ever find a solution for this?
There was no solution for this miserable problem, Many apps including WhatsApp just goes to sleep after a while.
I almost risked something extremely crucial as I didn't get a WhatsApp message delivered to me on time. Gave up on the phone the next minute and switched back to a less-complicated phone.
Freeze Google framework and use alternative app store and you will get notifications back.

its known issue with notifications in the chinese mate 9 hopefully Andorid O will fix it
I just studied this issue several days ago. Here are some advice for you.
1. Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Battery
Make sure the option 'App auto-lanuch' enabled and the 'Close after screen locked' disabled.
2. Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Notifications
Make sure all options enabled.

I checked and found the option 'App-Auto-Launch' option disabled which I have enabled. that could be the reason. I will test for few days and feedback. much thanks for the great support.

You are welcome.
As we are not sure why and when the option 'App-Auto-Launch' on your phone was disabled automatically, you can also try to give the app full access to all permissions.
Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Permissions - Set individual permissions, enable option 'Trust this app'.
Any result, please feedback here to all.

Hi James,
I have done all the settings required as per your recommendation, and I have observed the behavior of whatsapp for few days. I noticed sometimes it works and other time it doesn't. after doing those settings recommended the phone started alerting me about applications that are the top consumer of power; Whatsapp, Firefox are always in the top. Power is a big concern for Mate9 and everytime battery goes less than certain threshold (50%), the phone decides to make-asleep the power-consumers.
Cool, I believe no solution to such effect other than keep the phone on charger

It was said that it is the stock app, Phone Manager, which will occasionally stop WhatsApp improperly. And the suggested solution is to disable its some option as below.
Settings - Apps - Phone Manager - Write system settings, disable the option, 'Allow write system settings'.
I just wonder whether this whatsapp issue only exists on China version Mate 9.
the mate 9 is not the only phone from HUAWEi / HONOR which was affected to this problem! I had this on my Honor 7 too.
Reason for this behaviour seems to be the deep sleep function of their devices.
Edit, solved issue

Phone manager is there real culprit. Rooted guys can uninstall it while others can follow this solution.

Another solution is to search for "ignore battery Optimisation" in settings and disable it for WhatsApp.
Its because of the battery saving features on emui cause the halt notifications. But no worries, it has a solution.
1. Go to settings>battery, tap on the settings icon on top right corner, make sure everthing off in there except keep mobile data on during sleep.
2. Go to settings>battery>lock screen cleanup, make sure your desire apps not turn on.
3. Go to settings>apps, tap on the setting icon on center, go to special access>ignore optimisations, change to all apps, choose your desire apps, and make it allowed.
Voila! All sets and your desire apps will be working normally without notification halted. Hope it helps.

Hi,
I had an Honor Note 8 and notifications any came through if apps were open in app memory, or if they had a widget.
Adding them to a whitelist/ignoring battery optimisations did not work and notifications were blocked and only came through when you opened up the apps.
Is this fixed in the Honor Note 10?
Could any users please test by closing all open apps from app memory and seeing if notifications come through for the following apps:
eBay
Etsy
Amazon seller app
Google Hangouts
WhatsApp
Facebook messenger
This is the only thing holding me back from buying this phone. It doesn't look like a Global version will ever be released and I need to know if the Chinese ROM still kills notifications.
Thank you
Hi buddy
I have noticed when my screen is off for a bit then when I open WhatsApp loads of notifications come through.

Even with those option it does not work on note 8. We had to remove an APK called powergenie from the system to stop it from killing app even if those app are whitelisted.
Huawei power management is too aggressive.

One year I used Note 8 with Nougat and no problem with Power Management! Upon upgrading to Oreo system it automatically shuts down applications in the background, and it also does Note 10 ... ?
Phonemanager was the problem here on the Note 8. When i disabled that everyting worked great.
There are 2 settings that will totally minimize this problem (even Galaxy note 8 and iphones of my brothers are having this problem too)
but if you follow these 2 steps you will definitely minimize them as much as other phones
1. Settings/Battery/App Launch and set individual aps you like to get the notification to Manage manually
- turn all the 3 options on here (running in background , startups , and can be run by other apps) this will stop your phone from killing these specific apps from running in background
The second reason you don't get your notifications is because when your screen is off the Wifi will be disconnected first and then for a certain period of time , the system will also turn off your mobile data to save the battery as well. This means even if you have those apps running in background , you still won't get the notification because there's no internet connection....
So step 2 - go to Settings/Battery/ then look at the top right corner for the "gear" icon ,click ---- > Keep mobile data on <----- turn on option
(if you don't have mobile data plan and only rely on your wifi connection, well, you need to turn on keep your w-lan on instead )
Have fun and cheers

Thanks, but I did all of this on the Note 8 (when I had one) and it did nothing. All of my notifications were blocked. The only way to fix it was to remove the awful PHONE MANAGER app via the ABD removal method.
If the Note 10 is going to be the same, I'll have to pass. I just want a phone that'll work properly out of the box.
No problem with WhatsApp, messenger eBay and Facebook so far, everything comes straight thru.
I did however observe sligh delay with Gmail.
Even with Gmail widget active in the background emails come at least one minute later after sending from another device.

I am using the Honor Mediapad X2 and having the same notifications issue, please note that there exists a HIDDEN WHITE LIST within Phone Manager where certain apps like Whatsapp are white listed and allow notifications to come through whereas other apps such as Hangouts and email clients are not. Having said this, do not use Whatsapp as a test to determine whether the Note 10 has the same issue or not. I do not know whether the Note 10's white list now includes apps such as Hangouts as it is a newer device and so it may be more up to date.
For your test, try an unpopular app which uses standard GCM protocol, kill the app, put the device into DEEP SLEEP (screen off, etc) and only then see if the device wakes up and notifications come through, they should.
Please use the QUOTE feature when replying to me to get my attention. Thanks!
The problems that i had on the Honor 8 are not on the Honor 10. I get all notifications with no problems. Just set the apps in manual mode and select all 3 options in phonemanager -> startup apps.

Hi
I am sorry to disappoint you. On the Huawei Honor note 10 (EMUI 8.2.0 build 132) you won't receive notifications if the application is closed (not running in the background nor in the foreground), with one exception that I have found so far: WhatsApp.
All the settings you can modify only affect the application WHILE IT'S RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND, that is, the app will keep running if the background and won't be killed if you disabled battery optimization for the specific app and changed the App Launch setting to "Manage Manually" with all 3 options enabled. However, if the application was closed by you or never launched after restarting the phone, you won't receive notifications even with disabled battery optimization and power management.
I am so frustrated, I don't even get reminder notifications from Google Keep notes app. The only workaround is to manually open all the apps you wish to get notification from when you power up the phone.
If anyone has a better workaround or has a different behavior than what I described, please advise!
Cheers,
David

Hi,
Unfortunately I believe this is per design and not a bug (Huawei strict battery saving policy.
The only way to guarantee notifications is to open the app you wish to get notifications from and keep it always running in the background.
Read the article below, it explains down to the bit level why notifications don't work on Huawei phones:
Damn I cannot post outside links because I am a new user. So Instead, search Google for this:

I hope it helps

Hello friends, I am trying to decide if buy this phone or not, but the notification is a basic feature. My most used apps are Telegram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, so I want to know if there was an update or something that fixed the notification management. Thanks in advance.
Hi, just bought a mate 30 pro a few days ago without google services. I side loaded all the apps I needed and everything was working great until I realised I wasn't getting my facebook messenger notifications. If the app is open they come through but when I close the app it's like it goes to sleep after about 5 mins. I made messenger my default sms app to see if that would help and all my texts worked fine but my facebook messages just won't work.
I have all my notifications on, app launch set to manual to allow auto-launch, secondary launch and run in background. I even allowed all permissions but didn't make a difference. I have performance mode on and have selected stay connected when device sleeps.
Has anyone else had any problems like this or know how to fix it? I've done a factory reset and been through every option I could think of. I love the mate 30 pro but probably going to have to get rid of it if i can't fix this problem.

Yes..same in here too..mate 30 pro 5G china
All launch manually,it means run background, auto start always on..but still no luck..after 5 mins idle..no notif.
But my fren have it with global rom,and it work normally
No lock apps
I wonder if the reasons behind this problem are also the reason behind 'alarms' not going off sometimes. For example, I have an app called 'Alarm Clock Radio', and it seems like it needs to be the 'front' app for the alarm to remain set overnight? It seems to work just fine if I 'test' it by setting alarms in the near future, but it rarely lasts overnight. This app adds a notification when it has an alarm set, but that is sometimes not there and that seems to be coincident with the alarm not working...
oh, and also Accubattery, that is supposed to alert you when the charge gets to a certain level, but sometimes doesn't....

I made the changes to the 'Battery optimisation', so that the apps that I want to run long term, for whatever reason, aren't 'killed'...ie set to "Don't allow - May drain your battery more quickly"; but they still don't last until the next morning. I would have thought that apps like 'Alarm clock radio' would set some kind of system alarm that would launch the radio app, rather than have to have the app running continuously.
I ran the app Push Notification Tester and it comes back with error after 4 tests. Not registered for push notifications. It doesn’t matter if you change settings or not you don’t receive push notifications. Weird because I get normal SMS and WhatsApp just fine!

I think it has to do with the Mate 30 Pro not being registered with google and because so many apps as made for the google services, you can’t get Push Notifications to work 100%
All apps that reply on play service to send push notifications wont work you cant pass all the test.

Indeed. My question is do all apps on Google Android require GMS to send Push Notifications?
I ask because I know that not only Google run the notification services, but do they all use the GMSes on Google Android phones, or can phones have multiple on-device services to consolidate communications with cloud-based push notification services?
Can, eg, a Pixel phone, also install Huawei Managed Services?

Very good question. I have been looking into it but so far I thinks that’s why Huawei is trying to get all the apps on there system! (HMS)

Apps like the whatsapp, messenger, viber etc still work. Apps that work perfectly before you install the GMS will receive push notifications. Because they dont rely on the play service.

Exactly, I realised after installing GMS on Mate 30 Pro that push notification on Gmail, Outlook and most apps are not working. Instant messaging, social media and messenger are working just okay with or without GMS.
I just installed GMS on my mate30 pro, everything works well, just push notification is not working.
I ran the tester and there is a error of registration error of push notification.
How to fix this?
Hi Mate 30 pro fans,
I have weird issues, regarding whatsapp application. I will frequently disconnected while im idle or not turn on the phone for 5 minutes or more. Seem like EMUI keep killed Whatapp in backgroud. Does anyone have similar problem like me? For information, i already re-install the application twice, set special permission to disallow system to automatically kill the app manually. but the issue keep coming.
Thanks in advance guys!

2 things under settings u adjust. i solved mine via these 2
1) go App. under App launch. select "manual" and tick all 3 options for Google framework, account manager , huawei mobile services and whatsapp. i did that for google map too
2) again go App, under permission. select special access on the drop down list on top right hand corner. choose battery optimisation. i select whatsapp as well as those apps mentioned as above 1) and choose "not allowed" so that these wont be killed . Just adjusting 1) under App launch does not work. its the battery optimisation that kills the app after a while.
u need to perform these 2 adjustments so that whatsapp will continue to work behind .
this 3rd step is optional. I've also enabled locking whatsapp under the task it so that it won't be close even if i clear all app in the background. click on the square icon at the bottom most of the phone menu, scroll to whatsapp and swipe down to lock it. swiping up kills the app
make sure u enable data for these app.
hope it helps. i did it for my 5G set from china.

Hi im not too sure but it happens on mine. i discovered this… solution via trial and error. it should help if thats the issue. quite easy.
i encounter lagging in receiving wa msg after the phone was inactive for a while. did all i could including search via online. none helps until i toggled that adjustment. don't worry as it should address the prob if its the same issue

Hi @averllia
Could you explain the route you follow at step #2, please ??
I have got a Mate 30 Pro 5G from China too.
[EDIT] Finally I found it !!!
...
is there anyone else with whatsapp problem? I had the same problem. whatsapp plus apk. problem is solved.
I have a Pebble Time that was working well (under the new Rebble alliance) with my old PocoF1 (running LineageOS)
Since I've moved to the X3 MIUI Global 12.0.2 (QJGEUXM) I think I have received about 2 days of full notifications, and then.. only reminders come through to the watch! no SMS/Whatsapp/email notifications.
I installed a 3rd party Notifications app, that also worked for 1 day and then nothing. (Notification Center for Pebble).
When I go into the app now it says "Notification Service Not Running - you must enable it"
It takes me to the Notification Access, where both Pebble and Notification Center are both ticked.
I've tried unchecking, rechecking. restarting... etc. nothing seems to get the Notification Service working
I've been to power settings and ensured that neither app is being restricted.
What am I missing!?!

ok, open "app info" on app which is not working correctly, check section "permissions", open "app behavior", in log find out which app operation is restricted or denied, then allow required permission, it should help; also allow autostart and disable battery saver (set "no restrictions")
I find very questionable this "new" policy in MIUI12 - "deny everything" from the start (maybe not new but for me it is, this is my first phone with MIUI), around 70% of my application (that worked on Android 10 without any hassle) would not work correctly, unless explicitly allowed autostart, disabled battery saver, plus rechecked/reallowed every needed permission... soo hope this help ... I spend almost 2 days in finding out why on earth my apps wont work anymore correctly (as they did before MIUI)

All permissions allowed, no battery restrictions set.
I did just find an "app timer" option with I have now set to "no timer set". that might be something that lets the first 30mins of notifications through then stops? t.b.d.

rebooted to find that the Pebble app and the Notifications for Pebble App had both been moved back into the Battery Optimised list!
not sure if I like this "feature" of MIUI !
my notifications are working now.
i had to disable miui optimizations in the developer options at the very bottom.

not for me. Notifications work for approx 24 hours. then I have to remove permissions. Force quit notification app. Restore permissions.. launch app. Then it all works again.
This MIUI is doing something funky and I don't like it
Yup same here.
I get my notifications back if I force close the Fitbit app.
Im having the same issue with mi Fit, yes, mi Fit, an app from xiaomi, I am not receiving nothing in my mi band 5, I checked all the options but nothing worked for me, mi Fit always showing notification access needed, this is so annoying
Have you tried ensuring the auto start toggle is on under app settings for wearos app?
another one with the issue here. amazfit bip
I have a Ticwatch Pro (Wear OS) and had it always disconnected after night.
I created an exception for 'google play services' in DND settings, and since then there were no more disconnects.
If you are using DND-mode, maybe this helps for other watches too.
my fitbit decides to give up during the day, before my DND at 23:00 kicks in.
Very annoying i need to force close the Fitbit app 2x a day or more to get notifications back

where do you make the exceptions?? I have no such option in DND settings... (Miui 12)

The Miui Menu is a bit confusing... And ambiguous in german - we have 2 menu entries 'Datenschutz' which would translate to 'privacy'. In the first one we have 'special App Access rights' or something like that. There you find exceptions for DND.
I think you should probably best try the search function - 'exceptions' or 'do not disturb' should show you the way, i suppose.
Tried all of that.
No joy.
Still have to force close the Fitbit app 2 or 3 times a day to get notifications back.
Very annoying
