Hi, just bought a mate 30 pro a few days ago without google services. I side loaded all the apps I needed and everything was working great until I realised I wasn't getting my facebook messenger notifications. If the app is open they come through but when I close the app it's like it goes to sleep after about 5 mins. I made messenger my default sms app to see if that would help and all my texts worked fine but my facebook messages just won't work.
I have all my notifications on, app launch set to manual to allow auto-launch, secondary launch and run in background. I even allowed all permissions but didn't make a difference. I have performance mode on and have selected stay connected when device sleeps.
Has anyone else had any problems like this or know how to fix it? I've done a factory reset and been through every option I could think of. I love the mate 30 pro but probably going to have to get rid of it if i can't fix this problem.

Go to notification settings and turn on sounds and "on top" option. All notifications works well for me - asian version of mate 30 pro.
Same thing happened to me. What i did was reset phone update to the firmware and after that it went back to normal. For some reason it stopped working after i used the app phone clone tranffering old apps from my old mate 10. Hope it helps...
Same with me on my Mate 30 Pro 5G chuna version
Manage launch already set manuall and auto launch, secondary launch and keep running background all is ON..but same no notif
Yes..same in here too..mate 30 pro 5G china
All launch manually,it means run background, auto start always on..but still no luck..after 5 mins idle..no notif.
But my fren have it with global rom,and it work normally
No lock apps
I wonder if the reasons behind this problem are also the reason behind 'alarms' not going off sometimes. For example, I have an app called 'Alarm Clock Radio', and it seems like it needs to be the 'front' app for the alarm to remain set overnight? It seems to work just fine if I 'test' it by setting alarms in the near future, but it rarely lasts overnight. This app adds a notification when it has an alarm set, but that is sometimes not there and that seems to be coincident with the alarm not working...
oh, and also Accubattery, that is supposed to alert you when the charge gets to a certain level, but sometimes doesn't....

I made the changes to the 'Battery optimisation', so that the apps that I want to run long term, for whatever reason, aren't 'killed'...ie set to "Don't allow - May drain your battery more quickly"; but they still don't last until the next morning. I would have thought that apps like 'Alarm clock radio' would set some kind of system alarm that would launch the radio app, rather than have to have the app running continuously.
I ran the app Push Notification Tester and it comes back with error after 4 tests. Not registered for push notifications. It doesn’t matter if you change settings or not you don’t receive push notifications. Weird because I get normal SMS and WhatsApp just fine!

I think it has to do with the Mate 30 Pro not being registered with google and because so many apps as made for the google services, you can’t get Push Notifications to work 100%
All apps that reply on play service to send push notifications wont work you cant pass all the test.

Indeed. My question is do all apps on Google Android require GMS to send Push Notifications?
I ask because I know that not only Google run the notification services, but do they all use the GMSes on Google Android phones, or can phones have multiple on-device services to consolidate communications with cloud-based push notification services?
Can, eg, a Pixel phone, also install Huawei Managed Services?

Very good question. I have been looking into it but so far I thinks that’s why Huawei is trying to get all the apps on there system! (HMS)

Apps like the whatsapp, messenger, viber etc still work. Apps that work perfectly before you install the GMS will receive push notifications. Because they dont rely on the play service.

Exactly, I realised after installing GMS on Mate 30 Pro that push notification on Gmail, Outlook and most apps are not working. Instant messaging, social media and messenger are working just okay with or without GMS.
I just installed GMS on my mate30 pro, everything works well, just push notification is not working.
I ran the tester and there is a error of registration error of push notification.

the gmail app updates randomly. every time i unlock the screen, the gmail icon shows up and all of a sudden I have unread emails in the inbox.
if i use the native mail app, will this issue be corrected?
Do you have them whitelisted in the power usage firewall?
This is a real issue, I set every single setting possible to try and rectify this problem but I can't. It doesn't appear to affect everyone but I can confirm if affects me.
Never had any issues with Hangout or Whatsapp though like other have had.
I'm not sure if it's hardware revision, software version or what makes it not work for some, very frustrating. I've tried most roms, root, no root, using gmail, using built in mail, using other mail programs but the same results.

Root and update rom after my guide?
I have already root and update rom but I am experiencing the same issue as the OP. I have tried EVERYTHING.
Move to app-sys, change doze settings, protect apps, clear dalvik cache and everything I can think of.
Telegram works, whatsapp works but NO email works.
I have tried typeapp/bluemail/gmail/normal mail. None works.
As soon as I lid up the screen all notifications come. When my phone is on the charger all notification comes.
So clearly this has something to do with power management. I am thinking of selling my phone because of this. In my work I MUST HAVE PUSH WORKING. Otherwise the phone is of no use.
Such a great device otherwise, one of the best if not the best I've ever had. Switched from galaxy s6 to this. But WHY HUAWEI ARENT YOU SOLVING THIS ISSUES.
A google search shows the issue has been there since mate 7 and even longer time ago.
I'm not stating this will work for everyone but I'm currently no longer experiencing the gmail issue that I've had since day one and on every rom I've tried.
If you are bootloader unlocked and have some time then give this a go and feedback on your results please.
I've installed rayglobe rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/development/rom-rayglobe-rom-t3315682
I then installed Doze from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/howto-solving-notification-issues-root-t3294178
As detailed in the Doze instructions I applied tuhinxp04's profile and just change idle timeout and max idle timeout to 60 sec and 600 sec respectively.
gmail and Blackberry hub are working as expected for this first time since getting the phone 3 weeks ago. You may not have the same success but please give it a go
UPDATE: 8 minutes is the longest I've so far had to wait for an email to arrive. Not push but something I can live with. Whatsapp and Hangouts seems fine btw.
The solution of notification problems for all apps of huawei phones (emui) is this brilliance application

Lock all of your apps that are having problem with this software and also Lock your app in recent app and see if it is fixed.

Gnasher666 the issue is that push is critical for me. I turn on my screen every 10mins anyway but email push is very critical. Every second 15 second counts and I need to be alerted directly.
I thought i solved it. It worked perfectly for 8 hours and then suddenly died after I recharged my battery. Was even going to write a guide on how I solved it haha but then it died again so no solution here.
I really dont know why its so difficult to make it work because some apps do work like telegram.
So what is so special about that app that works but not others....
I get your frustration, I don't need that timely a notification for emails - 10 - 15 minutes works. Prior to all the playing around I've done I could go from one unlock to the next without receiving a mail notification, so for me this is a great step forward. Obviously, this is a hack, we shouldn't have to do it in the first place and Huawei needs to resolve it. If they fix this issue I'd be able to say without any doubt this is the best phone I've had (and I've had a lot, including top end Androids, iPhone 6S plus etc).

You'll still get notified when "high-priority" apps need your attention. That means things like phone calls or SMS messages can get through (and thus waking up your dozing phone) as well as any app that declares itself as high-priority. Other things, like email notifications or Clash of Clans telling you your gold mine has leveled up aren't going to come in and wake your phone up.
This doesn't mean you never get any notifications while your phone is idle. Google uses what they call an "Idle maintenance window" where they pick up any notifications that may be available in one big batch. Then your phone can quickly go back to sleep.
When you wake your phone by side button, notiffication will arive immediatly (sorry 4 bad english)
not confirming anything - but memory locker may work. i set -17 to outlook after disabling gmail and I am getting instant emails. more testing until confirmation.
after powering off and on again, had to do all the settings again. so strange, like it sometimes works.

Hi,
I had an Honor Note 8 and notifications any came through if apps were open in app memory, or if they had a widget.
Adding them to a whitelist/ignoring battery optimisations did not work and notifications were blocked and only came through when you opened up the apps.
Is this fixed in the Honor Note 10?
Could any users please test by closing all open apps from app memory and seeing if notifications come through for the following apps:
eBay
Etsy
Amazon seller app
Google Hangouts
WhatsApp
Facebook messenger
This is the only thing holding me back from buying this phone. It doesn't look like a Global version will ever be released and I need to know if the Chinese ROM still kills notifications.
Thank you
Hi buddy
I have noticed when my screen is off for a bit then when I open WhatsApp loads of notifications come through.

Even with those option it does not work on note 8. We had to remove an APK called powergenie from the system to stop it from killing app even if those app are whitelisted.
Huawei power management is too aggressive.

One year I used Note 8 with Nougat and no problem with Power Management! Upon upgrading to Oreo system it automatically shuts down applications in the background, and it also does Note 10 ... ?
Phonemanager was the problem here on the Note 8. When i disabled that everyting worked great.
There are 2 settings that will totally minimize this problem (even Galaxy note 8 and iphones of my brothers are having this problem too)
but if you follow these 2 steps you will definitely minimize them as much as other phones
1. Settings/Battery/App Launch and set individual aps you like to get the notification to Manage manually
- turn all the 3 options on here (running in background , startups , and can be run by other apps) this will stop your phone from killing these specific apps from running in background
The second reason you don't get your notifications is because when your screen is off the Wifi will be disconnected first and then for a certain period of time , the system will also turn off your mobile data to save the battery as well. This means even if you have those apps running in background , you still won't get the notification because there's no internet connection....
So step 2 - go to Settings/Battery/ then look at the top right corner for the "gear" icon ,click ---- > Keep mobile data on <----- turn on option
(if you don't have mobile data plan and only rely on your wifi connection, well, you need to turn on keep your w-lan on instead )
Have fun and cheers

Thanks, but I did all of this on the Note 8 (when I had one) and it did nothing. All of my notifications were blocked. The only way to fix it was to remove the awful PHONE MANAGER app via the ABD removal method.
If the Note 10 is going to be the same, I'll have to pass. I just want a phone that'll work properly out of the box.
No problem with WhatsApp, messenger eBay and Facebook so far, everything comes straight thru.
I did however observe sligh delay with Gmail.
Even with Gmail widget active in the background emails come at least one minute later after sending from another device.

I am using the Honor Mediapad X2 and having the same notifications issue, please note that there exists a HIDDEN WHITE LIST within Phone Manager where certain apps like Whatsapp are white listed and allow notifications to come through whereas other apps such as Hangouts and email clients are not. Having said this, do not use Whatsapp as a test to determine whether the Note 10 has the same issue or not. I do not know whether the Note 10's white list now includes apps such as Hangouts as it is a newer device and so it may be more up to date.
For your test, try an unpopular app which uses standard GCM protocol, kill the app, put the device into DEEP SLEEP (screen off, etc) and only then see if the device wakes up and notifications come through, they should.
Please use the QUOTE feature when replying to me to get my attention. Thanks!
The problems that i had on the Honor 8 are not on the Honor 10. I get all notifications with no problems. Just set the apps in manual mode and select all 3 options in phonemanager -> startup apps.

Hi
I am sorry to disappoint you. On the Huawei Honor note 10 (EMUI 8.2.0 build 132) you won't receive notifications if the application is closed (not running in the background nor in the foreground), with one exception that I have found so far: WhatsApp.
All the settings you can modify only affect the application WHILE IT'S RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND, that is, the app will keep running if the background and won't be killed if you disabled battery optimization for the specific app and changed the App Launch setting to "Manage Manually" with all 3 options enabled. However, if the application was closed by you or never launched after restarting the phone, you won't receive notifications even with disabled battery optimization and power management.
I am so frustrated, I don't even get reminder notifications from Google Keep notes app. The only workaround is to manually open all the apps you wish to get notification from when you power up the phone.
If anyone has a better workaround or has a different behavior than what I described, please advise!
Cheers,
David

Hi,
Unfortunately I believe this is per design and not a bug (Huawei strict battery saving policy.
The only way to guarantee notifications is to open the app you wish to get notifications from and keep it always running in the background.
Read the article below, it explains down to the bit level why notifications don't work on Huawei phones:

Hello friends, I am trying to decide if buy this phone or not, but the notification is a basic feature. My most used apps are Telegram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, so I want to know if there was an update or something that fixed the notification management. Thanks in advance.
Hi guys,
I don't know if it's Oreo or the Nubia X, but a lot of apps don't show me notifications : Messenger, Snapchat, Candy Crush, TypeMail...
My clock app doesn't ring, and I have a message when I open it after (app forced close).
All those apps has been manually optimised in the battery settings.
An idea ?
I have problems with that too. And my apps always fall asleep, even my phone app, which means when people call me, I don't get the phone calls unless I turn on my phone and suddenly my missed calls and messages show up.
For my WhatsApp, Gmail and Yahoo Mail, even worse. I literally have to open those apps to check if I got new messages or emails.

it's not enough guys. You have to go in apps info, permission managment and also power management and give permission to everything.

Hello,
I have the same issue I rooted my phone its v2.19. Notifications work for 10 mints if I have the app running in the background, apps like gmail and YouTube crash after sometime of use.
I allowed all notifications and permissions and power management, it seems like its only the apps that rely on google play services.
I am not sure if this is a common issue...
I have noticed that some notifications will not come through unless wifi is connected, but after some time of having the screen off, notifications stop working. My email notifications will not come through or show on my lockscreen unless my wifi connection is active, regardless of whether or not my data is turned on.

Several years ago Gmail alerted me on my phone immediately when an email came in - these days it can take as much as 10 minutes using the Gmail app to alert me of a new mail because of power saving functions. Those minutes can end up costing me money - a lot of it!
BTW, it doesn't matter if I am on wifi or my carrier's network.
I've tried googling this but am finding nothing but old articles from years ago that no longer apply.
Does anyone know a definite 100% sure-fire way to get the immediate notifications back?

Have you turned off battery optimisation for gmail? Something i find works well is pinning the apk in the recently opened apk menu.
Also try going into battery, battery optimisation, advanced optimisation and making sure the sleep standby is off

I don't even see Gmail in the list of apps for battery optimization - simply isn't there!
Sleep standby IS off.

You're right, it's not there. Have you tried pinning it?
See - no Gmail to be found...

I'm using a different launcher, but will switch back to default and try that now.

Ok I'm not even seeing where that can be done.

I have the same Problem with my OnePlus 7 T Pro, I tried the same but without any result.
For whatever reason OnePlus decided to load Gmail as a System App. I was able to uninstall it, and reinstall it from the Play Store and it STILL installs as a system app...thus...no way to adjust battery optimization.
To lock it in memory you need to open the app, then act like you want to go back an app...you know drag it up to the middle of the screen where you can scroll left and right through recent apps. When Gmail is on the screen tap the three dots in the upper right and choose "lock". This is supposed to keep it in memory so that the OS doesn't remove it from RAM and "maybe" your notifications will come in as soon as a new email arrives. YMMV
There is a Magisk package that disabled any kind of optimization for Gmail. However, while it made Gmail display "Disabled" if I checked the app, now I cannot even see that setting anymore.
But yes even previous OxygenOS versions have suffered from the very same issue. People been asking for a fix for years. Only permanent fix is to reinstall Gmail as user app or use a custom rom.
Ps.: Look for "OxygenOS" within magisk to find the module. Back then you coulf also use an app like Nova to go into the Battery Optimization list, and disable the optimization. That also worked, needed no root. But it was reset after each reboot. So one time you forgot? Boom.
I bought my Oneplus 7t Pro yesterday and had this push problem with Gmail. But I also had problems with microsoft authenticator and Google Duo. Yesterday evening I did a full wipe (Hard Reset) and now gmail works properly and also the other apps.
Have purchased a Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, so far so good with speed, charging etc.. however notifications on stock China ROM are a nightmare. Many just simply don't show, despite all battery, notification setting tweaked, locked etc...
The main issue I have is google assistant, it refuses to show screen popup reminders, yet happily makes a notification sound on a reminder. Whatsapp is temperamental, sometimes pushing notifications, sometimes not, sometimes only showing when the app is opened.
Will the EU Rom fix this or maybe wait till Android 11 released before selling the thing. Can't really live without the google integration.
Let me know your thoughts! Cheers.

Change it into weekly EU ROM. I have no problem with notifications and all Google services.
Great! Thanks for input, will give it a go. China ROM is absolutely useless for Western market.
You have to enable the "Display popup windows while running in the background" permission.
Yup tried that on the google app settings, nothing, still just the sound. No notifications.... very annoying.

My friend, there are few things that you have to do in order to let those notifications get through MIUI defence  LOL
Settings->Apps->Manage Apps
Choose an application
So now you would be in 'App info' (for example for Gmail)
1. Get into 'autostart' and enable both options, then get back to previous level
2. Get into 'permissions' and enable at least 4 permissions at the end of the list, then get back to previous level
3. Get into 'notifications' and enable all 6 enablers, beside that, here you have to get into 'Rules for grouped notifications' and choose 'important', then get back to previous level
4. Get into 'battery saver' and choose 'no restrictions'
Voila!
There is nothing more to enable!
It took me a few hours in order to figure it out even though i never seen MIUI before.
Please let me know if it is of any help for you
Thank you so much! Went through all those steps enabled all those notifications, seems there is a channel error for the notification...
Very wierd, all other notifications pop up, just not google reminder, just the sound and the google icon on lock screen at the time of the reminder. Installing and reinstalling google apk doesn't work either. Nor switching on/off MIUI optimisations.
Interestingly when I first received phone reminders working AOK, apart from MIUI forcing assistant back to MiAi every few hours.
Guess wait for Android 11 release, and failing that try EU Rom...

You can test it now as Android 11 is already published as a weekly MIUI rom (20.11.5).
