whatsapp issue on Mate9 - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

I have a Mate9 where the whatsapp was fully functional since installation, but suddenly last two days the apps (whatsapp) stopped notifying about new received messages until I open it. So now I am obliged to check my whatsapp every 30 minutes by opening and checking for pending messages.
any help?

its known issue with notifications in the chinese mate 9 hopefully Andorid O will fix it

I just studied this issue several days ago. Here are some advice for you.
1. Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Battery
Make sure the option 'App auto-lanuch' enabled and the 'Close after screen locked' disabled.
2. Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Notifications
Make sure all options enabled.

I checked and found the option 'App-Auto-Launch' option disabled which I have enabled. that could be the reason. I will test for few days and feedback. much thanks for the great support.

You are welcome.
As we are not sure why and when the option 'App-Auto-Launch' on your phone was disabled automatically, you can also try to give the app full access to all permissions.
Settings - Apps - WhatsApp - Permissions - Set individual permissions, enable option 'Trust this app'.
Any result, please feedback here to all.

Hi James,
I have done all the settings required as per your recommendation, and I have observed the behavior of whatsapp for few days. I noticed sometimes it works and other time it doesn't. after doing those settings recommended the phone started alerting me about applications that are the top consumer of power; Whatsapp, Firefox are always in the top. Power is a big concern for Mate9 and everytime battery goes less than certain threshold (50%), the phone decides to make-asleep the power-consumers.
Cool, I believe no solution to such effect other than keep the phone on charger

It was said that it is the stock app, Phone Manager, which will occasionally stop WhatsApp improperly. And the suggested solution is to disable its some option as below.
Settings - Apps - Phone Manager - Write system settings, disable the option, 'Allow write system settings'.

I just wonder whether this whatsapp issue only exists on China version Mate 9.

the mate 9 is not the only phone from HUAWEi / HONOR which was affected to this problem! I had this on my Honor 7 too.
Reason for this behaviour seems to be the deep sleep function of their devices.

Edit, solved issue

Phone manager is there real culprit. Rooted guys can uninstall it while others can follow this solution.

Another solution is to search for "ignore battery Optimisation" in settings and disable it for WhatsApp.

Its because of the battery saving features on emui cause the halt notifications. But no worries, it has a solution.
1. Go to settings>battery, tap on the settings icon on top right corner, make sure everthing off in there except keep mobile data on during sleep.
2. Go to settings>battery>lock screen cleanup, make sure your desire apps not turn on.
3. Go to settings>apps, tap on the setting icon on center, go to special access>ignore optimisations, change to all apps, choose your desire apps, and make it allowed.
Voila! All sets and your desire apps will be working normally without notification halted. Hope it helps.

App notifications + Wifi? Some answers some questions

So I have stumbled across a bug that is rather frustrating. This bug was that I could not receive notifications in "real time"( if that makes sense) basically I mean very delayed. A fellow XDA member pointed me out to a thread that has a solution for this which goes as follows:
Settings-> Additional settings->Battery& performance -> Manage apps battery use->chose apps.
After that its pretty straight forward.
My current problem is that I still get delayed notifications in Wi-Fi. I have tested this out on about 10 different Wi-Fi networks. I am sure this is some stupid MiUi setting hidden somewhere making the phone go in a deep sleep state or a battery mode or something..
Before people start recommending installing CM, I am not interested in it, until CM bugs are fixed, Also this is not a solution that answers my question.
I hope the solution above has helped other people as it has for me, for the Wi-Fi issue any thoughts or suggestions are more than welcome.. (Haven't tried the IPV4 thingie I read in XDA but that doesnt seem like a solution that I can apply when I am at someone elses house or out =/ )
About the notifications problem
I don't know if we are talking about the same issue, but I have seen delayed notifications on many phones and Android versions in the past. Also, the web is full of forums and sites where people complain about this. I think this is more a Google Cloud Messaging bug than a Xiaomi or Miui bug.
Maybe the people here suffering from this issue can try this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andqlimax.pushfixer
Helped me in the past. You can chance the heartbeat of your internet connection to keep it alive.
I can't say if i have this issue because i didn't got much notifications in the last days. At least i didn't noticed something. Also my banking app notifies me immediately when i do banking stuff or pay somewhere.
Also, the people who gets disconnected when they turn off the screen on Miui, there is a setting in the security app under battery profiles which says by default "clear on lockscreen". Maybe making an own profile with a different setting helps here

You can read about it in the projects XDA-thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142503
I read about "heartbeat interval", but if the problem is it, notification should not work correctly even when screen is on. While it seems here we are speaking when the screen is off, right?

I made some research, and i wrote all settings that could be interesting. I write them here just to be sure all settings was checked.
These settings should be adjusted, besides your pushing apps (wapp, facebook, etc.), even for:
- Google Services Framework
- Google Account Manager
- Google Play services
- Google Play Store
Code:
1.Goto Security->Permissions->Autostart and give autostart permissions to the Google Services Framework,Google Account Manager and your Messaging apps like whatsapp, hike, etc.
2.Goto Security folder>permissions> and give permissions to each apps.
3.Goto Security->Data Usage->Data Usage Stats and Select your app . After that check if background data is enabled. If it is not enabled, enable it
4.Goto Security->Data Usage->Data Saver->Manage Apps and turn off optimization for the messaging apps.
5.Goto Settings>Additional Settings>Battery>Manage app battery usage, now disable/turn off the following options.
- Manage app battery usage
- Restrict apps when battery is low
Or
- Select "Choose apps to restrict" and unselect/untick the apps from the list
6.Goto security folder and click the check button.
7.If you have already opened these apps you will see these apps in the memory tab.
Click on the memory tab and uncheck these apps and any other apps you desire or you can simply go to recents panel and lock this app by swiping down.
8.Goto settings<security<locatIon<location acces<permissions<messenger<display pop up....
Finally reboot the device and check.
Do you hav adjuested all these checks? If yes, it is clear there is a GREAT bug in MIUI rom, or better miui kernel.
People, don't try nothing, this is simply a MIUI bug!!!

I don't even have any of these options on my Mi4C. For me it looks like all those Google apps are hidden? I can only change permissions or power settings for WhatsApp, can't find Google Services Framework etc
I only get WhatsApp messages reliably if my phone is unlocked and WhatsApp is open. And can only connect to WhatsApp Web if my phone unlocked and WhatsApp open.... Really frustrating.
Keep finding I've missed messages from hours ago cause they never showed up in notifications.
I've done everything here: https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/android/20887936
Installed Push Notification Fixer
Still same problem. Must be MIUI bug

Push Notification

Hey All, I was wondering if anyone is experience push notifications issues with the oppo F1 or delays in getting alerts on apps. For example i don't get any notifications from ebay or linkedin as well as a few chat apps. I was wondering if anyone is having the same problem or is it just me. I contacted Oppo and they are investigating about this, but i wanted to get other people thoughts.
Also for me viber doesn't sync with my contacts, is that a problem with others?
Apart from that I'm loving this phone... I had a Samsung note 2 before and this surpasses it in every way regardless of screen size.

By the way,I'm using oppo f1,too

Thanks for the tips, by the way i had data saving on but I added linkedin, ebay, etc as trusted apps which wasn't working, I'll try turning off data saving and see how it goes...
Is all push notification apps working for you? the most do for me like viber, whatsapp, skype (except that viber doesn't synch with my phone contacts) i find that some apps aren't working with push notification in specific for me ebay and linkedin are good examples.
I had sent you a private message, hope you got that

Try to turn off "smart power-saving mode" .
thanks for the tips everyone. I tried the power-saving mode off, and giving that a go at the moment. I did notice that it still didn't work with data saving off. So I turned it back on and whitelisted the apps that I want with notifications. I'll see how it goes. By the way Williamlin零件件 i got your email, yes I already have the lockdown of the app in task manager, still didn't work though.
I'm also facing same problem with new my oppo f1 . Tried data saving disable. No l luck. Can someone please suggest ?
Try this:
Setting - Allow drop-down notification bar on lockscreen interface - ON
Although I would not want notification on lockscreen, but this seems to solve the bug.
I am using F1+
Check all the security and power saving settings. The phone will freeze apps in the background or with screen off to conserve power. I have the same issues with my Find 7 and have had to go through the settings very carefully. It will even interfere with my clock widget as I have a different launcher and widget running.
It seems a lot of Chinese phones do this now. My Huawei Mate 7 has similar settings. I'm not sure if it's a general lollipop thing.
I HAVE ISSUE IN OPPO F1 S regarding whatsapp notification, when i open the whatsapp application then msg received otherwise no notification shows, any one have the same please suggest what should i do now , many time i update the whatsapp also, but still problem persist ........

Start whatsapp, hit home then open Settings > App management and in the "Running" tab you will see whatsapp. Beside it there is a padlock icon, press it and it will turn green. This locks the app in memory and prevents it being closed automatically to save power and memory.
How to deactivate security centre in oppo f1+ because i m using apps you need antivirus..
Tried them all, whitelisting Telegram in the task manager, allow notifications on the lockscreen, disabled autocleaning, smart whatever. Notifications are still not coming through.
How is it possible they incorporate so many ways in their os to kill one of the most basic and important functions of a phone!
And if it CAN be fixed, why make it so complicated! aarrrgh
Have you try go to the setting --> battery --> Others -->
Go to the apps that you need to get notification --> Turn OFF "Freeze when in background" and Turn OFF "Automatically optimize when an abnormally is detected".
Try that.. if cannot then its the OS problem with the App...
my Telegram also cannot have notification.......
push notification on Oppo
Hi ,
I am working on pushnotification for android device, but when my application is killed I am not receiving any notification, what permissions should I set to receive the same.
Thanks in advance
To turn on the notification sound on oppo f1s
To fix this problem though, there are some things you need to do in order. Here we go then.
1. Open the application you choose and tap on Recent button Swipe the app down to ensure that padlock icon is there in left corner
2. Go to Security Center, Privacy permission, then Startup manager
3. Make sure that the app is allowed
4. Go to Setting, Additional Settings, then Application Management
5. Go to Automatic cleaning and turn off the Automatic clear apps
6. Go to Settings, Battery, then Others, and click on the app
7. Make sure the Freeze background app and Auto optimize are turned off
8. Go to Security Center to turn off Self-diagnosis frequency and Permission Monitor
9. Update the version to*X9009EX_11_A.16_160512
Found it on the websites, i forgot which one, but hope this might help, mine works. Good luck!

No gmail notifications

Hello,
I'm not receiving new mail notifications, it happened few times already. Every battery saving optimisation is disabled!
Phone's build number is MHA-L29C432B126, no updates available
Is there something I can do to start receiving notifications?

It is enabled already, thank you anyway.
BTW notifications work when I'm testing it not long after screen was on, but it stops after a while. It's obviously some kind of battery usage optimisation - gmail is killed somehow so it doesn't receive push events. As I said before, I checked all power settings and they are all set on the safe side (no auto closing apps).

There is no gmail on that list, mostly apps I installed by myself (no factory apps), only few exceptions.
By default, only "allowed" apps are shown and I did selected "All apps" option - still no gmail...
BTW I googled a lot about this problem and found some instructions which says that notification problems could be solved by "locking" apps in recent apps list (square navbar button). I did it yesterday evening and I'm receiving notifications today. I'm not sure the issue is really fixed because notifications sometimes found their way before too. Also, seems like dirty solution, I guess the problem remains for other apps...

Yes...i get confused with mine - China version that all Google Apps are in that list.... If you lock apps in recent apps list maybe will solve your problem...
In Chinese version this is the only way for all apps Google and social media...

Inconsistent notifications

Hey guys,
So have the Chinese version with the Chinese ROM still.
I have noticed that sometimes apps no longer give me notifications unless I open them.
For example, if I do not open Gmail it does not auto download the emails and does not notify me of new mails.
WhatsApp does not always tell me I have new messages unless I open it etc.
I have tried to check the power settings and such and cannot find anything.
This happens regardless of whether I am on mobile data or WiFi.
Any ideas what may be causing this and how to stop it? I'd like to get my notifications as I receive new WhatsApp messages and emails etc.
Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
I can't find the source or any helpful guide to fixing it, but I swear I remember seeing something about how MIUI prevents some notifications from reaching you by default for some reason.
I'm pretty sure there was also ways to get around it as much as possible, but another solution is to flash a custom rom.
Hmm, I did a quick Google and saw something about battery optimization but could only find MIUI optimization.
Will keep looking, hoping the global ROM will fix it though?

(I'm assuming most of the settings in MIUI 8 are still available in MIUI 10)
MIUI is VERY aggressive when it comes to controlling apps running in the background (when in this phone is completely unnecessary given the massive battery), I would do 2 things to fix these problems:
1) Look in "Battery and Performance" > "Manage Apps battery usage" look for the app you want notifications to work properly select it and select "no restrictions", or you can just turn off power saving mode completely and every app will show notifications properly
2) Look for a setting named " about this phone" or something similar, in the "MIUI version" tap 7 times till you get a message "you are now a developer" .
Go back to settings, select "additional settings" and look for "developer options" , go to the bottom and disable MIUI Optimization.
These two actions should fox notification problems and also RAM management, you apps won't be suddenly closed when running in background.
Quick note: after a few years, when battery starts showing it's age and your phone starts rebooting randomly , turning on MIUI Optimizations might come handy, it will work similar to iOS, slowing the performance a bit and limiting the amount of background processes to lower the battery draw, your phone might run a little worse, but it won't have random restarts.
Again, I currently use MIUI 8, so some names might have little variations, but the steps should be similar.
Hope it helps and sorry for my english

Here's a possible solution.
Open Security App > Manage Apps > Select app
> Enable "Autostart"
> Notifications > Enable "Show notifications" and "App icon badge" > enable the following toggles for all notifications found under NOTIFICATION CATEGORIES > "Show notifications", "Floating notifications", "Lock screen notifications" and "notification light" (also "Sound" and "Vibration" if needed).
> Battery Saver > No restrictions
In order to prevent MIUI from killing specific background apps you need to do this:
> Open each app separately > Go to "Recents" menu to see the apps running in background > long press on each app separately and lock it by tapping the lock icon.
> Reboot the device
Please report back and let me know if this has solved your notifications problem or not.
Thanks guys, I will give the above a try and see if it works and if so which setting(s) fixed. Y issue.
Will report back once I've had a chance to test it all.

Did you have any success fixing the notifications issue?

Smartwatch Notifications stopped working

I have a Pebble Time that was working well (under the new Rebble alliance) with my old PocoF1 (running LineageOS)
Since I've moved to the X3 MIUI Global 12.0.2 (QJGEUXM) I think I have received about 2 days of full notifications, and then.. only reminders come through to the watch! no SMS/Whatsapp/email notifications.
I installed a 3rd party Notifications app, that also worked for 1 day and then nothing. (Notification Center for Pebble).
When I go into the app now it says "Notification Service Not Running - you must enable it"
It takes me to the Notification Access, where both Pebble and Notification Center are both ticked.
I've tried unchecking, rechecking. restarting... etc. nothing seems to get the Notification Service working
I've been to power settings and ensured that neither app is being restricted.
What am I missing!?!

ok, open "app info" on app which is not working correctly, check section "permissions", open "app behavior", in log find out which app operation is restricted or denied, then allow required permission, it should help; also allow autostart and disable battery saver (set "no restrictions")
I find very questionable this "new" policy in MIUI12 - "deny everything" from the start (maybe not new but for me it is, this is my first phone with MIUI), around 70% of my application (that worked on Android 10 without any hassle) would not work correctly, unless explicitly allowed autostart, disabled battery saver, plus rechecked/reallowed every needed permission... soo hope this help ... I spend almost 2 days in finding out why on earth my apps wont work anymore correctly (as they did before MIUI)

ok, open "app info" on app which is not working correctly, check section "permissions", open "app behavior", in log find out which app operation is restricted or denied, then allow required permission, it should help; also allow autostart and disable battery saver (set "no restrictions")

All permissions allowed, no battery restrictions set.
I did just find an "app timer" option with I have now set to "no timer set". that might be something that lets the first 30mins of notifications through then stops? t.b.d.

rebooted to find that the Pebble app and the Notifications for Pebble App had both been moved back into the Battery Optimised list!
not sure if I like this "feature" of MIUI !
my notifications are working now.
i had to disable miui optimizations in the developer options at the very bottom.

not for me. Notifications work for approx 24 hours. then I have to remove permissions. Force quit notification app. Restore permissions.. launch app. Then it all works again.
This MIUI is doing something funky and I don't like it
Yup same here.
I get my notifications back if I force close the Fitbit app.
Im having the same issue with mi Fit, yes, mi Fit, an app from xiaomi, I am not receiving nothing in my mi band 5, I checked all the options but nothing worked for me, mi Fit always showing notification access needed, this is so annoying
Have you tried ensuring the auto start toggle is on under app settings for wearos app?
another one with the issue here. amazfit bip
I have a Ticwatch Pro (Wear OS) and had it always disconnected after night.
I created an exception for 'google play services' in DND settings, and since then there were no more disconnects.
If you are using DND-mode, maybe this helps for other watches too.
my fitbit decides to give up during the day, before my DND at 23:00 kicks in.
Very annoying i need to force close the Fitbit app 2x a day or more to get notifications back

The Miui Menu is a bit confusing... And ambiguous in german - we have 2 menu entries 'Datenschutz' which would translate to 'privacy'. In the first one we have 'special App Access rights' or something like that. There you find exceptions for DND.
I think you should probably best try the search function - 'exceptions' or 'do not disturb' should show you the way, i suppose.
Tried all of that.
No joy.
Still have to force close the Fitbit app 2 or 3 times a day to get notifications back.
Very annoying
