Reputable Repair Shops? - HTC U12+ Questions & Answers

So My U12+ charging port seems to be damaged or "loose" at the very least. I need to carefully plug in the charging cable or it will just fall out. I know there are repair shops that'll repair the screen, but are there any reputable places that can repair or replace the charging port?

If you're still within the warranty, I'd use it to let HTC handle the repair. If they receive a device for warranty repair they not only repair what is broken, but refurbish the phone. You'd thus get a properly refurbished U12+ and an additional warranty on the repairs done, regarding the USB port.

USB connector melted / caught fire

Using my phone this morning while on charge the usb connector suddenly got very hot. I pulled the USB cable out as quick as possible but it had already melted off the usb connector on the phone, the cable itself was glowing orange and on fire!
The phone still works but clearly I can't change it anymore. HTC support are offline now until the new year so don't know if under warranty or costs of a repair. I've seen the parts on ebay but don't have Torx screw driver (yet) to take about to see the damage clearly.
Does anyone know if you can buy official parts anywhere or just 3rd party replacements on ebay ?
Anyone repaired a usb connector that burnt out ? advice, tips welcome !
it shouldn't burn out! i would demand the repair/replacement even if the phone was out of warranty. are you rooted?

Totally agree, go to HTC and request for a replacement, but, were u using htc batteries/charger at that time. But either way there is a reason the warranty is only for 1-2 years, they dont expect the lifespan of phones to be that long and after that period they do expect malfunction(s).
There are some video that u can google out that shows u how to dismantle it.
Yup rooted via HTCDEV and was using an Xtrememac USB charge with Amazon Basics USB cable. The cable is ok looking bar the melted plastic from my phone now burnt on to it. The connector on the phone is about 50% missing so a couple of the connectors touched somehow ? It had been on charge all night, I picked it up, check for any messages and then it went !

Micro connection chip broke, have I made a mistake sending my phone in to be fixed?

Hello,
Recently I plugged my phone in to charge and unfortunately the chip that is on the phone that the micro usb cable plugs into broke off. I called t-mobile for a replacement but am questioning sending under the covered insurance for several reasons. First when the phone does turn on there are some water damage marks but none of the water damage stickers were effected. Secondly I have custom rom on the phone and have no real way of booting it up as I don't have an extra battery. So am I better possibly eating the $100 they will change for such things as water damage or should I just find another used one for slightly cheaper?

You can try flashing "stock" by extracting an RUU and packaging it in PG58IMG.zip (I think you just need to rename it, but I'm not sure about this, so I suggest waiting for someone to comment on this). It will not relock your bootloader, but besides that the phone will be stock. As for water damage, nothing can be done.
How bad is the socket broken? Maybe you can hack a cable to just charge your phone? (that would not be easy, but depending on how the socket is, might be possible without even opening the phone).

[Q] USB Detected but Phone Not Charging

Hi Guys,
ROM Details : CM 10.1 (JB 4.2.2)
Kernel : stock CM 10.1 Kernel
Warranty status : Out Of Warranty
Problem: I accidentally dropped my phone today. First it didn't start. However, I could make it work by reinserting the battery. But now, the phone does not charge when turned on. It's charging in LPM i.e. when powered off and connected to the charger. When connected to the PC via the USB cable, the phone is getting detected in the PC and I can browse the files as usual but it is not getting charged. Can you guys help me?
The charging port or the charging PCB has possibly gone kaput I suspect. In which case, SSC would be the only solution, I guess. Can someone with the prior experience be kind enough to tell, how much would it cost in India approximately and how long does it take for the repairs normally. Also should I prefer the local repair shops or the official SSC?
Thanks and Regards.
Cost of charging slot was 600-650 INR in local shop and 1100 INR in SSC when I inquired.
You should get it repaired from local shop. There is a simple belt which is required to be just replaced. It takes 5 mins if hardware is present in shop.
BTW nice and proper way to express problem. impressive. :good:
I already experience this problem.Service Center take 320 rupees and replace the charging slot.

from where can i get the USB flex cable replaced in Delhi? I went to the service center, but they are asking 1200 for it. i dont want to spend that much for a 2 year old phone! can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative?
I am not able to charge it while it is turned on. i have to switch it off and then charge it.
Also, it keeps on switching to driving mode automatically every now and then.

[Q] Phone won't charge without USB cord being held in certain position

I went to charge my phone today but all of a sudden I couldn't just plug it in and have it charge like I normally do. I have to pull my cord toward the front of my phone to get it to charge and I have to leave it like that. I thought it might be a bent connector since I have to force the contact points together, but I don't want to risk anything. I know its not the cord as I have tried 3 different ones and I have used both a computer and a AC adapter to attempt to charge it.
Can I buy a replacement charging port or could it be something else?
Thanks,

As our phones age, this can become a problem. A few months ago, same thing happened to my phone. I called T-Mobile and asked if the charging ports could be repaired. The bad news is that (according to T-Mobile), they can't be repaired economically. The good news is that they'll send you a replacement phone at no charge.
Mobiletechvideo fixed mine for $35.

Hm well that's unfortunate. I forgot to mention that I'm with wind. They charge for warranty repair after 1 year from original purchase date. I'm going to try to go to a warranty center to see how much it is.

Does anyone how to take off the charging port and replace it with a new one?

I can not charge my phone due to the charging port not working does anyone know how to fix it or know somewhere where that I can buy a replacement?
aliexpress.com should still have them. the clone gionee e8 on there may also have the right ones but without a vibrate motor. did it myself fairly easily. have to remove the screws, take the 3 cover panels off as they overlap each other and then the vibrate motor is glued to the frame, pry it off carefully, remove the daughterboard and put in the new one which probably wont have a vibrate motor. those wires are too small for me to feel ok with soldering so i have mine without vibrate capability.

I had same problem nothing would charge battery, finding anyone to fix USB port was not happening it was like a hell especially a tech called me on Sat afternoon said he'll fix it drop it off by 4 pic up by 6:30 pm I asked if he had the charging port he said yes it's an easy fix.
I didn't feel like this was a good move only because of warranty I would have repaired it but it was a weekend no one at Blu Corp.& I needed my phone after returning to phone store I waited for someone to come out so I could pay and leave, the look on the guy's face I knew something happened as he tells me the tech couldn't fix it, so I asked why did he call me to drop my phone off if couldn't do it. He said he had the part and it's an easy fix..1 month later after battery warranty expired I opened it up and the charging port fell to the floor that dude resoldered all the tracks off the board he screwed it up so bad no one wanted to fix it. But I decided to find a way to resolve this problem that everyone has been going through and since I couldn't salvage my phone, I researched the wireless devices I called Qi Corp. Talked to person with best knowledge of their products, called Blu Corp asked if wireless devices worked on their phones using receiver lady said no. Turns out they never tried I was so bent over what happened and hearing more stories of people like yourself I found away to charge that phone I bought the Qi ( Chee) receiver (B) and bought the wireless charger that has a USB type connection a fast charger type and regular as if wall plug..It worked I love the charger the receiver I leave connected in charging port and using the gel type case it's like a thin coat enough to charge the battery and my current Blu Pure is not my old phone repaired I only paid $130.00 barley used made sure the battery could be charged and it's working perfectly...I leave receiver connected so whatever damaged the charging port wasn't going to do it on this phone...
I have told many Companies that wireless receiver and chargers work BLU was the only Company that wasn't thrilled about it...
Make sure you get it in writing if you find a tech to help fix your phone..GOOD LUCK
