Congratulations on your new Purchase. The Tmobile LG G2x is a beast. Like all new devices, you may experience new service options and features you may not be familiar with and may cause some trouble down the line if not set up properly. We also want to make sure you are away of all of the known issues and some faulty units so you are aware and can check while still within a reasonable exchange window.
1. Get Connected! By default you won't be able to access the SD card via USB because it is defaulted to mount the Internal Storage, which requires the LG Driver.
To get around this, or if you only want/need access to the SDCard go to [Settings>SDCard and Phone Storage] and check "Mass Storage Only". This option doesn't require special drivers and will operate like most other phones.
The folder hierarchy is as follows:
Code:
Internal Storage: /sdcard
External Storage: /sdcard/_ExternalSD
1A. How to Delete your LG Drivers to use MASS STORAGE and to advert the Blue Screen of Death:
Obviously on Windows: Go to Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features find "LG Android Drivers" in the list and uninstall.
2. The first big problem on a few handsets is a backlight bleeding. You can test this by viewing a black screen in a dark room. You should have a solid color throughout. If you have really bad bright corners, you may be a victim of the bleed. While not quite a set back, it may be noticeable while watching movies or playing games in the future. If this is something that bothers you, I advise to swap it out for another unit.
3. There seems to be lots of "weird" issues ranging from grayed out options or behaviors such as lockscreen sounds not working. Most are assumed from faulty Titanium Backup restores or by simply skipping the initial setup. It is recommended that if you have done any of these things, to do hard format and set it up manually, recreating backups and program restores.
4. Like other later handsets by Tmobile, you may see WiFi Calling in the App Drawer. It works fantastic and is great for desperate times when you don't have available cell service. What you need to know is that it is ENABLED by default. The problem is WiFi Calling is designed to disable your actual Cell radio to save battery. What this means is that if you enable your Wireless and bounce around stores or in/out of WiFi service, you may be missing calls and messages while you are offline.
I recommend turning WiFi Calling OFF and enabling it only when needed.
5. WiFi is set to go into sleep mode after X amount of inactive minutes to conserve battery also. While a great feature, if used in conjunction with WiFi Calling, you may find your WiFi goes to sleep and you can start missing calls and messages also. To change this to go [Settings>Wireless & networks>WiFi Settings] + Hit Menu>Advanced]:
Change WiFi Sleep Policy to: Never
6. LG, like most other manufactures, develop their own drivers which may or may not be compatible with everything. With the LG G2x we are finding that some Bluetooth profiles may not play nice with your gadgets. Please check these as soon as possible. Some items may be Car Stereos, Specific programs using certain bluetooth profiles, and handheld gadgets such as gamepads or wireless speakers. Most will work but a few reports suggest the drivers may be off. Again, for your satisfaction, please check as soon as possible.
7. Root:
-Enable "USB debugging" [Settings>Applications>Development] and connect your phone to your computer via USB.
-Install ADB Drivers LG Driver.
-Run SuperOneClick: SuperOneClick
-Choose the option "Root".
8. Get rid of Bloatware using Root and Root Explorer (from market):
Here are a list of apps you can delete from the (/system/app/) folder:
Code:
AppPack
TeleNav
NOVA Demo
NFSShift
LMIRescue (LogMeIn.Rescue)
LMIRescueSecurity
EAPK = EA Mobile
MyAccount.apk = "My Account" and "My Device"
ZinioReader
ZinioSettingsProvider
9. There was also a report of using a HTC EVO Micro HDMI cable that shorted out the phone. This was a big deal over in the EVO thread. The problem is the way the cable was made and can short out with the external metal casing. If you purchased one of these I would proceed with caution.
10. If you want to make a solid backup of your current configuration or FLASH ROMS then you'll need ClockworkMod Recovery. There are two current methods to doing this. Both work but this is the best option because you can boot into Recovery via Volume Down + Power in case something gets screwed up and you get thrown into a Bootloop. The other method is by simply downloading Rom Manager via the Market and installing it that way. Although the second method does not allow booting directly into the Recovery console. So just do yourself a favor and download the latest ClockWorkMod NvFlash App for Windows
Feel free to add to this or perhaps add this information to the Wiki. Please give me a THANKS if this information was useful.
thanks, getting phone wendesday and will do all this. shouldn't the charging battery and discharge thing and factory reset be on there also from what i read.
Very helpful! Thanks a lot

This requires a big Thanks. Good job.
Can you unroot with that method of rooting? I'm afraid to root because I'm not tech and android savvy and have no idea what I am doing. Plus, I have all macintosh computers, will downloading that stuff be a problem?
This is excellent. I figured most of this stuff out on my own, but for anyone still trying to figure out his or her device, you've pretty much taken care of everything. Needs to be stickyed.

Thanks a lot gubidi, I will look at it when I get a chance. I'm a newbie at this stuff so I hope I don't damage my phone.
No problem, this is my first Android phone too. Developers have really simplified these commands to help out us noobs

Well Root just gives you admin access, which means you can do anything. Some programs require root to really get down to business, such as some of the better backup programs so they can backup a lot of the stock apps and personal settings.
Once you root there is no reason to unroot. It doesn't change anything, except permissions.
And not to worry, any application that requires root will pop up asking for access which you can accept or deny.
The main reason for Root is to use Rom Manager, which installs a custom recovery so you can flash custom roms and other files that can alter the look or functionality of certain parts of the OS. If you have no intent on altering the existing OS, you don't need root access.
Without Root, you will still be able to upgrade to new official upgrades and fixes.

Good question. On my Nexus One you hold the Track Ball, Vol Down, and Power. Lacking a trackball I guess there is not a way. Would be nice since there isn't a "Reboot" in the power menu on stock android.

Okay, well I plan on changing the look of the phone most likely, not I think mostly what I want to use it for is to delete bloatware like the t-mobile apps that may be using up a lot of my battery. Then is it worth rooting?
And also once you root it, is it complicated to alter the look and functionality?
My G2X and my Nissan Altima 08 doesn't go well over Bluetooth. No sound. I thought that was fixed in Froyo

there's a reboot widget in the market. works great.
Can we delete/freeze SmartShare? I guess it only works with LG TVs.
With the latest (and unfortunate) update from HTC, I have come to the conclusion that MTP is not the best protocol to transfer files between 2 devices. Why? It's much slower plus less secure. Maybe I just wanted to charge my device when hooking it up to the PC. With normal USB file transfer, by default, the phone does not mount and show its files to the PC. With MTP it does; and there's no way to stop it. MTP is also less stable. I had freeze ups many times when transferring large files where my computer no longer recognized the device. I had to unplug and restart.
Is anyone else having issues? Or is it just me being on Windows 8? Anyone know of a way to disable MTP and use the traditional way of mounting to sync? Thanks.
Just got an option I'm going to try. I worked on other devices I'll try ours:
"Use system tuner app. Go to startup button. Check for mtp. Click on it and find the exclude button. Click on it. Restart your tab. Connect to your charger and see if it works. For me it does, but you probably have to repeat the step because mtp might appear in your startup again (i don`t know how to kill it once for all)."

Will report back. For all you's who don't mind MTP, disregard this thread
Em can you explain the 'less secure' bit? But ya it sucks lol.

in windows 8 it sucks like hell, im with you, but in windows 7 is working fine and super fast, i pass large files from my pc to my phone, and when i say large, they are really large. i use my phone for movies, and i download movies from 5 to 6 GB, and it take a couple of seconds to get from my pc to my phone. you need updated drivers for it to make it work right.

Em what that just bs for a start the filesystem don't even support more the 4gb and then you got the fact there is no way it would copy over so fast that it puts my SSD drive to shame.
I always reboot to TWRP and use mount as old USB Mass Storage.

Bull****.
MTP cant get over 2MB/sec even when using a high-end PC with SSD HDDs and USB3(yes i know the S doesnt support usb3, thats not the point), while USBMS easily do 10-15MB/sec, and ADB 5-6MB/sec.
MTP is worse than useless. Good thing I coded Quick ADB :silly:
MTP & the suck
I can agree on the initial frustration I had, trying to understand why my other android device allowed the copying of any file ext. onto the SD card. I bought a new phone with the same ICS os(phone did not come with a file manager), when I learned of MTP then what I learned now was that mass storage no longer exists . It is a more secure way the computer reads the device, so to avoid the blockade you'll need another device anything that has m-sd card capability so you can dump any one or more files onto it first off. Then goto googleplay and dl a good file manager program to use while accessing file in the phone. It should be simple from then in on to install any backed up .apk files or view any media(phone did not come with a versatile media player)files.

did not work for me, mtp still loaded!
i hate mtp, every time i copy a image file or video from my phone, it is corrupted, windows 7 or xp.
sometimes my wallpapers get corrupted just using es file explorer or just what seems randomly.
this is on my verizon note 2, running stock JB 4.1.2
anyone find a real solution yet?
if i have to root to get this solved, so be it, but i am about to do so any way since i miss having more control over my device.
turns out after testing, my sd card is a faked 64gb class 10, transfer rate suggests class 4 and 4gb of data was verified, good news is i can still get my money back and my friend who sold it to me may not have known it was a faked card.
MTP is completely retarded. UMS is a tried-and-tested protocol, this is the biggest sh*t sandwich Google has handed Android users so far.
MTP crashes every single time I try to use it. Try opening a folder that contains a large number of files. Explorer will freeze. Furthermore, MTP requres a device-specific driver, whereas UMS uses a standard driver. Oh this sucks so much!
Guys, I don't understand you really... In every ROM I've flashed lately being it AOSP or Sense based, there's an option to switch from MTP to the "old" UMS mode. In AOSP based ROMs it is usually located in Settings - Storage and you should open the menu there and you have USB Computer Connection where you can choose whatever you like. It is an option like any other options, you can use it or not
And yes I agree with you...it sucks

I am on a rooted S4 MINI using the original stock ROM. Other than this small niggle, after removing all the crapware I am pretty happy with what I have, although if there is a compatible ROM that would bring UMS to the table I'd be happy to try it. I just find it very annoying that earlier Samsung phones used to have the UMS option but recently they decided to get rid of it. That's as stupid as it can possibly get: a tried and tested, working feature that was already in place... WTF not just leave it there??

So I have a fairly large host of problems on my LG G5 H830. I've tried a total of 3 different roms, and most of the problems have persisted throughout each rom.
Resurrection Remix:
NFC will not turn on, switch moves but it stays greyed out and does not activate NFC.
Magisk Manager periodically unroots; I have to reflash the MagiskManager zip in TWRP about twice a day.
Storage manager shows that I have 16gb total internal storage (I have 32), so it shows that I am using a negative amount of space on my drive.
System Process sometimes stops responding, causing the lock screen to not show and allowing anyone to access my phone for a short time.
Whenever I try train my voice model for Google Assistant, the Google app stops responding before crashing. This means that I can't get the "OK Google" prompt to work.
My battery sometimes simply fails to charge. For example, I charged my phone overnight, and the battery graph shows that it charged to about 50% or so before dropping back to about 20% and staying there until I noticed in the morning.
AICP:
Storage manager shows that I have 16gb total internal storage (I have 32), so it shows that I am using a negative amount of space on my drive.
(I haven't tested Google Assistant, and haven't had the System Process or battery drain issues - but I didn't have the rom installed long enough to truly test.)
Xenon HD:
NFC will not turn on, switch moves but it stays greyed out and does not activate NFC.

(As with AICP, I didn't install the rom for very long and did not test for the Google Assistant, System Process, or battery drain issues.)
The one problem that persisted through each rom was the incorrect display of storage capacity and usage, but TWRP has no problems with this. It also has no problem with charging. In addition, I've tried resizing, repairing, and re-formatting to EXT4 on my system, Data, and cache partitions. I don't know what else to try at this point, but since TWRP doesn't work any differently than I'd expect, it doesn't seem to me like a hardware issue - but then, I'm not an expert by any means, which is why I'm opening this thread.

Pretty much every issue you're having has been documented already, so it's not your phone.
1) NFC is completely broken on h830 in custom ROMs.
2) Magisk works fine, stop using magisk hide and built in magisk busy box, it will hide root from itself. This is a magisk issue not a ROM issue. If you need busy box download it from play store.
3) Storage size being incorrectly shown had been the case ever since cm 14.1 became available and therefore affects all Los based ROMs.
4) Don't use Google Assistant but others have stated there are issues with it.
5) Make sure after rebooting to unplug and replug your charger or it won't charge.
6) If it was a clean flash and you installed correct gapps, you shouldn't have system processes force closing. Make sure your using opengapps 7.1, arm64 and newest version available and nano or pick version.
The above issues affect basically every lineage os based ROM currently. Hopefully this helps

Thanks a lot for clearing this up! I'll take those suggestions and see if I have any luck (especially with the battery charging issue, since I mostly figured the other ones out on my own). I just came from a Moto G3 with RR, which seems to be a lot more stable than the H830, so all this at once caught me by surprise a bit.
Again, I appreciate your help with this.

No problem. By the way, I think RR is probably the best custom ROM for our device overall, especially if you like customizations But, they're are still some issues. Another issue to be aware of is that on Los based ROMs the camera isn't anyways saving videos (messed up part is that this only started happening in last month or so, it worked fine before that lol).

Just an honest opinion. You shouldn't have got a LG G5 if your intention was to use AOSP roms. You could get a Moto Z Play, or a Moto G5 Plus.
LG and Samsung phones would always have issues on AOSP roms.

I'm starting to realize that. I got it based off of the design (which I really like, especially with the rear fingerprint scanner) and the specs, and didn't do much more research than seeing that there were confirmed methods of installing custom roms. But, at this point, I can't return it and I'm more interested in getting it to work as best as I can.
Hello.
I am having a lot of trouble getting the USB drivers to work.
I am wanting to simply connect my Moto One 5G Ace with a USB cable and have it show up as a drive on Windows File Explorer. I want to copy files to/from the SD card.
But either I'm not downloading the right drivers, or my developer settings are wrong, or something else is going on.
I downloaded the "MotoroalDeviceManager_2.5.4.exe. All that seems to do is check for software updates.
I downloaded Motorola_Mobile_drivers_v6.4.0.zip, which seems to do absolutely nothing.
When I connect the phone to the computer, I get the popup from the system tray "Setting up the Motorola One 5G Ace device" (or whatever), then asks me what I want to do with it by default. I select "Open File Explorer". Well, the "motorola one 5G ace" selection in File explorer shows a blank screen.
If I go into USB Debugging and turn it on, the phone disappears from File Explorer entirely.
I've gotten this to work before with my Moto X4.
I'm running Windows 10.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I was actually looking for that, but couldn't find it. A search at the top of the interface found it.
So no, it wasn't set. I set it, and I got further. Thanks!
But not too much further.
What is now being shown in File Explorer, under "motorola one 5G ace" is:
android
Internal shared storage
I'm assuming "android" is my SD card, as that's how it seems to appear everywhere else on the phone. It also shows 115GB used, which is about right for that SD card, considering the junk I have on it.
Browsing under Internal shared storage is empty. Nothing is under there. ZIP.
Under "android" are a bunch of directories, such as .$recycle.bin$, Alarms, Android (yes, again), DCIM, Download, Movies, Podcasts, Ringtones, and a drive symbol.
Alarms has some small files. Everything else is empty.
So, I'm part way there. What can I check next? Permissions issue, perhaps?
Thanks

Thanks

Ok folks, so I did a repair job on the msi, and it got "further". I could see some directories.
But then I decided to swap out the cable. And that seemed to do the trick. I'm now able to transfer over some huge files. Odd, as I thought the original cable was a good one, too.
Thanks for all your help.

More often than not, a bad cable or port on the PC end is the culprit. However, in my case, on my laptop, I have to uninstall and then reinstall the drivers after every time I have shut it down. All works well then until I shut down my laptop and then reboot the next day. Rinse and repeat. It's a head scratcher for sure. But at least I can get things working again.

Yeah, I've used that cable for other transfers, too. So I'm not sure what happened. Maybe this was the first time I used it in a USB 3.0 port, so it couldn't handle the higher speed. That's all I can think of.
I'll consider this the next time I have transfer issues.
I don't know what has happened to my old Lenovo Vibe X on Android 6.01 and how to resolve the issue without wiping data (no guarantee it would help - I'm now thinking...).
The phone is temporarily at my relative's disposal: i've switched to her Google account to let her use my old phone. She complained the call ring was very weak. I decided to change the ringtone, but I found out that I cannot do it anymore, the Media/Audio/Ringtones folder with standard OGG files is not visible (I cannot select ringtones from there anymore). "Other ringtones" option directs me to some installed Audio player, which does not allow to select any MP3 files in ANY folder (they cannot be played, because the player reports they are not added to Media storage). When I try to use "Scan media" option - it is just stuck. I've tried to use another programs like SD scanner, they either report Media database read error or finally report success status, however the audio files are still not playable.
I've tried to: clear caches (Android and Dalvik), disable / enable Media system app and delete its data.
I've also noticed that NOW my USB Audio player reports that HiRes DAC is not found (!) and does not want to play files in HiRes mode (through the chip instead of generic driver) - actually, my phone does have ES9018 DAC...
I am not sure this problem is related to Media storage, however all this together is very weird.
Any thoughts what could happen and what should I do?
How long was she using it and how good are her Android skills? May have caught a rootkit or virus. Anything below Android 9 is vulnerable to the Xhelper type rootkits that can worm their way out of the user partition. Real nasty critters...
If it just went nuts, I highly suspect malware especially in the hands of a novice user.

As @blackhawk wrote, the user may have infected the phone.
The only solution is to flash the phone manufacturer's stock ROM.
I will try to do this as soon as I get a chance, nowadays there is no other smartphone to use for my relative, so have to wait a couple of days.
BTW - regarding "HiRes DAC is not found" message... is there a chance that guys who replaced the battery in this smartphone soldered out ES9018 chip??

Likely a software, firmware or settings issue. Malware could also be the root cause for losing the high resolution DAC.
It's possible the tech damaged this circuit but probably not likely. Obviously if it was working before they got their paws on it then they are likely to blame.
