I was about to buy Xperia L a month ago but due to some issues with it I decided not to, moreover, I got to know about Moto G and I'm really happy with the specs.
The only thing that is holding me back is the camera. How is Moto G's camera against XL? I know I'm comparing 5mp vs 8mp, but still.
If Moto G's camera is as good as XL than I'm sold. heh!
Oh, and I'm really sorry if I posted this in wrong section.
The camera is mediocre, but it's a little better than my Galaxy Nexus in some ways. That doesn't say much.

Mediocre compared to what exactly, a reflex camera? Then sure, it is mediocre.
But tbh i find it quite average, during the day it can take some really nice pictures though at night seems to be quite dissapointing.
Overall its more than enough for casual pictures to post at facebook/tweeter, etc but ofc you wont be taking professional pictures to work with.
Compared to a flagship phone's camera or the last two Nexuses.

True that. Small difference of 400-500 dollars + for those cameras tho. :silly: Or twice moto g's price for the nexuses..
Thanks alot guys! I don't plan to take professional like photos with it, obviously. I just need a smartphone with a decent camera to post pics on facebook/twitter etc. Thanks again. Cheers.
Oh, it's decent for Facebook or Twitter. As long as you're not blowing the photos up...

Take a look at this post

There's a lot of pics taken with these phone and honestly,i was expecting much less based on reviews
You can even use it as a scanner for documents (see page 4)
BUMP! Thanks for the link, 72off.
The wait for Moto G is kiling me. lol. I think the rear camera would be fine for me, though, pictures seems to be a little out of focus and blurry but I'll take it.
I haven't seen any front facing camera sample of Moto G, so I was wondering if someone can upload it(maybe a selfie?) if it is not too much to ask. heh!
Hi All
I am looking to move from a HTC One X to a Moto G. My question in on the camera is it the same or better than my current HTC One X??

One X camera is better. Moto G camera is really slow and most pictures require a really steady hand. But I think it takes better low light pictures than the One X, like on the one X all low light pictures were very grainy/fuzzy so that's less out here. You'll definitely notice a bump in battery life though.
Since I did the exact move you're planning maybe a list of pros and cons of moving to moto g will help you
Pros:
Kitkat(and one more update hopefully)
Battery Life(I've got 4.5 hours of screen on time vs the 3 hours I was getting on my One X) This is the entire reason for me shift to the Moto G
Faster(?)
No random heating scenes(which wasn't really fixed on the One X)
Charges pretty quick
Cons:
Smaller Screen
Camera not as good
Prefer the slim dimensions of the One X
Camera is not good at moto g!

These photos look pretty good to me. I'm of the school that if you what the "best" photos, then use a camera. But for those quick, unplanned pics, your phone is always handy.
the camera on the Moto G is beyond awful
I forgot to mention, the speaker of Moto G is louder than the One X by a considerable amount.
@japoina92 those are some good pics mate. Never got a decent snap like that so far. Maybe my hands are too shaky

You have a thread just for posting moto G pictures in "Moto G Themes and Apps" section.
Just thought I'd throw this one in here for anyone put off by Moto G camera reviews. I have had my Moto G for some time now and it remains to be a solid, reliable phone. However, a recent sale for the Lumia 925 came up so I grabbed one as it's supposed to have a decent camera on it.
Well, having done some comparisons between the two, I can categorically confirm that 9 times out of 10 the Moto G produces more well rounded images than the Lumia. Granted, at low light, the G cannot compete, but under normal lighting conditions its actually slightly better, even when zoomed in. Text is no clearer on the 925 than it is on the G. I was really surprised by this and a little gutted I even bothered with the 925. If anyone is interested, I can upload some comparisons.

Actually, I was a bit too hasty to post in all honesty. I've just done some further comparisons, more accurately, taking into consideration the field of view of the 925 and by transferring the images actually off the two devices and comparing them side by side on the same screen. the edge has now tipped in favor of the 925, but not by a huge degree. The brighter of the two images is the moto one.

well,i'm not photograph genius ,i think l925 got more detail and a bit less noise, especially by zoom in,but not by far, moto g in your picture still take a great picture. i really surprise :good:
i have to agree though, moto g not the best camera out there but sometimes, under a certain condition,it will take a great photo :highfive:
Well guys sometimes in class I have to take pictures of sombdy's else notes or a pic of something on notice board...mostly printed stuff
It shudnt be high quality....just legible
You think moto g can handle that.?
Easily. It's a capable camera, no where near as bad as had been made out.

Does this help? Hopefully, I uploaded the photos correct
Hey, I have a Moto G XT1033. Running 4.4.4.
The only problem I am facing is with the front camera. In bright light the camera's quality is hood. But as soon as I am indoors/in slightly low light, the colours fade. Like, they literally fade. Its all black and white. When I move the phone around I can see some light on my face/subject as if its a bad LCD. I don't think this has got something to do with the camera itself but rather the software. Because in proper lighting, it's excellent.
So, should I use another camera application? I am currently using the Google Camera and the stock one.
Or is this a problem on everyone's phone?
Waiting for help.

Yes, they returned to some extent when my phone was on 4.4.2. On 4.4.4 it's worse.
I was trying to use the this barcode scanning application to scan a barcode and for some reason the main camera does not want to focus when anything is only several inches a way.
I thought it might be the app but when I tried it in the stock camera app I noticed that the camera cannot focused on anything close up.
Is anyone else not able to get focused macro shots?
Yes, it's impossible to focus on a object that is close. I don't think it's a problem but the (****ty) way this camera focus. I wonder if any fix regarding this and the slow focus can be done by ROM devs.
Nexus 6 Camera suffers blurry close ups too
https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus6/comments/31e0aw/for_those_unimpressed_with_the_nexus_6_camera/
As you can see in the above link this guy has the same exact problem with focusing on close object that my Moto Maxx has on both video and still shots.
He RMA'd his phone and the replacement works perfectly fine.
Isn't the camera on the Nexus 6 the same as on the Moto Maxx?
Can anyone else confirm if they have this problem with the Moto Maxx or not?
Thanks
SOLVED!
So I was able to solve this problem by opening up the phone and replacing the rear camera module itself.
I purchased a Droid Turbo XT1254 Camera Module on Ebay for $25.00 shipped.
Took me about 15 min to install using a Droid Turbo Teardown Youtube video as a guide.
Now I can take photos of barcodes, labels, that are clear and about 3 - 4 inches away.
Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.
I also solved this issue by replacing the camera as rbalfury suggested but I'm not happy with the performance of the camera. I blame it on the software side since it doesn't allow me to manually focus the damn thing and my lg g2 could take awesome macro shots and could see very fine details with it. This camera focuses automatically and before it finishes focusing you can see for an instant when it's adjusting that it becomes crystal clear but then blurs up the shot a bit which sucks. Need a camera software with manual focus but no luck yet.
One reviewer said that he was sightly disappointed with the dynamic range of the camera. https://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g8_plus-review-2046p5.php
I'm wondering if this is a hardware or software issue? I bought the G8 plus already, but i'm wondering if I should just have gone for the G8 power, if the G8 plus camera isn't all it's cracked up to be in the end?
Thanks.
