Just curious, I see a lot of issues are with the camera and FPS. I was wondering if the quality was any better with a smaller resolution? I wonder if ASUS will have a OTA update for the camera app.

From what I've read, the FPS issue is only affecting the rear camera. Asus is working with google on correcting this - I can almost guarantee this is a software bug and I'm certain it will be resolved.

It's got to be, too much potential to be so underdeveloped. Is the audio playback better on the front camera too?
Yeah the fps issue is only with the rear camera for video. Once they fix the fps issue it looks like it is capable of a fairly decent video quality.
The quality of still camera shots is average, but then it is only 5mp. Obviously if you wanted a proper picture, chances are you wouldnt lug your tablet around to take one anyways. It's handy for scanning documents, etc of course.
The lack of a flash isnt really bothering me, which I thought it would.
From what I understand, it's more than just a frame rate issue -- several reviewers have noted that the shutter lag is unacceptably long, at over two seconds between pressing the shutter button and the picture actually being captured. Unless Google and Asus can solve that, it'll still prove unusable for many people. But as noted, most people (myself included) aren't buying the Transformer for the cameras...
I don't know why people care so much about the camera for? Obviously its garbage just use a DSLR or Camcorder if you want pics/vid cause the pics you get on this will be the same as your cell phone.

Solely for unexpected snapshots, to be quite honest. But you're paying for it, wouldn't you expect it at least to be usable, even if it's not great?
And incidentally, speaking personally, my main shooter *is* a very good quality DSLR with a good selection of lenses including a few primes.

That would mean carrying around a camera in my pocket too when I already have the cellphone and a tablet with cameras and (potentially) great playback. btw, my cell phone take fantastic pictures and video..so I wish in that respect! I would use the camcorder function mainly to record videos of the phone LMAO! A camera would be like a 3rd investment and get left behind a lot for me.

Personally I really like snapping pics and videos on tablets. I love the big screen with the camera, and the idea of having one central media device.

I honestly don't care too much for the camera. It'd nice to have, but I'd rather have a less buggy OS. It seems like there's a memory leak issues with the device if it's left running for a while. I hope that gets resolved.
So I bought the Octa Core version too and took some pics with both phones. The i9500 seems to win although the SD600 variant is great too. Shame on Samsung for (probably) two different camera senors on each of them. I'll definitely go with the Exynos version.
There's much more detail on the Exynos version (check out the image of the balcony).

That is certainly possible. I remember comparing my faulty HD2 photo quality before I returned it with my newly received one just to see if there was a difference in quality and found there was. Sometimes even identical hardware can throw up different results, especially on something as software dependant as a phone. Those photos don't conclusively prove anything.

First of all, many thanks for this!
The dynamic range is noticeably better on the Octa-core, it still captures the texture of the yellow house under direct sunlight while the SD600 version loses it due to the light flow. The Octa-core also has a little more details as expected with zero traces of noise on the clouds. It appears that the SD600 sensors produces some noise even in daylight, so a minimal denoising and some sharpening is required. As said many times before, the differences are not major but noticeable, hope we'll see some more comparisons, thank you very much for these!
i9500: Sony Exmor RS
i9505: Sony Exmor R
anyway Im very satisfied with i9505 photos! just compared your orange house composition and the difference is minimal except better house wall texture and very little noise difference is minimal!
Comparing the two sets i can tell Exynos is slightly better.
It handles dynamic range better.
Although the differences are minimal.About 3-4% better.
I'd like to see some night shoots comparison as well.

9500 is Sony IMX135(Exmor RS)

Sensor and lens are both tremendously important. You're trying to argue against technical facts here backed up by real-world feedback. The RS sensor is simply superior.

I agree that both look great, but can you honestly say that you cannot see a difference in the balcony picture crop?
The balcony and the walls have a lot more details on the i9500 in that photo.
When you zoom in the photo, you can also see a difference in the tree leaves and branches, and other small details.
It's pretty easy to spot now that we have side by side photos.
Concerning the video, I wouldn't trust Xperia photo/video quality after seeing photos from those devices, even though it is Exmor RS (the difference with the S4 is huge, I'm guessing their post processing is really bad).
And as AndreiLux said, both the sensor and lens are important.
That being said, noone is saying you shouldn't be happy with the i9505 camera, I've seen extremely good photos taken with that one, to the point that I didn't know whether is was taken by a i9505 or i9500 (in the photos thread), but you don't have to blindly contradict everything that shows the i9500 as a slightly better camera phone to try to convince yourself, just enjoy yours.
In a few months, there will probably be better ones anyway.

Hello,
So I love car spotting. Every time I go to London, I am running around after Ferraris, Lamborghinis trying to get nice photo's. But when the car's are driving, it is very hard to get a nice photo or video.
I was wondering if there are any attachable lenses for the Xperia Z5 that would make the objects in the lens appear a little bit closer than they are? Or even like this attachable camera lens with optical zoom for the Z1: http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/dsc-qx100/
I know there are some for for the iPhone, but I haven't found any for the Z5.
I'm interested to know how you're boring the camera fast enough to spot such? From as camera press on the lock screen I would totally miss the moment on mine

Yesterday I received the GPU Turbo Update on my Huawei P20 Pro, and I thought I may share my experience that I had with it so far and also make a list of things that changed with that update.
So far, I gotta say, GPU Turbo is amazing.
I tried it with the following games so far:
PUBG
Shadowgun Legends
Mobile Legends
War Robots
B. O. T.
All games run smoother than before, especially PUBG and Mobile Legends. Also, the device doesn't seem to get as hot as before when having longer gaming sessions, that was especially noticeable in War Robots.
Other things that have changed:
+ when filming in 960 fps: you can now choose between auto (start recording once the camera notices movement) and manual.
+ the font of the AOD (always on display) has been changed
If I notice more changes I'll make sure to post them here.

I don't even think these are true 960 fps.
I think the hardware is able to capture 120 fps max.
Almost sure the rest of the images gets computed by the NPU.
I still find it cool that Huawei was able to add such an amazing feature with a simple Software-Update.

The 960fps auto mode was present in 132 firmware as well.
Not sure if it is just my imagination, but I think that since the update the scrolling speed has been significantly reduced, ie if I check my Instagram feed and try to scroll quickly downwards it goes with less than half the speed with 152 update.. You just can't scroll fast enough anymore, maybe its an Instagram update? Dunno.

Depending on the situation (e.g. lighting conditions), Expert RAW can be kinda slow.

My images were pretty well lit, which means I am using a lower ISO and a faster shutter speed. As counter-intuitive as it may sound, higher ISO images have more data in them. I've experienced this same issue with DSLRs. Increasing the ISO increases the sensitivity of the sensor, which in turn increases the amount of data being captured. Combine that with the slower shutter speeds associated with low light capture and it will slow the camera's over all performance.
This doesn't mean performance can't be improved. Expert RAW performance (speed-wise) is noticeably slower than the Camera app. Samsung needs to tweak the algorithms it uses to process the image when saving.
Apple Pro Raw can do 48Mpx, S22 Ultra only 12Mpx, come on Samsung, at least 27Mpx.
12Mpx is ok for mobile phone, but for big screen or to print it sucks.

You obviously have no idea how Samsung cameras work. Nor how digital cameras (or any camera) work.
The S22 Ultra's camera is 108MP. It combines 9 pixels (3x3) into one. This essentially makes bigger pixels which improves dynamic range.
A 12MP image is plenty enough to make a 13x19in print. I've made 13x19in prints from 6MP RAW images almost 20 years ago.
Before talking smack do your homework.
Why your Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra's 108MP camera takes 12MP photos
Plus how to take full-resolution shots — and why you probably shouldn't bother

The software is doing some heavy processing, which I suspect explains the lag. Mainly I wanted to confirm that I experience this, too. It takes a second or two to save the files. Being an IT person, I know to be patient with the software, but I could see where people might get impatient with it. It is important to consider the use cases for which the software was designed. It provides high fidelity images by combining data from multiple shots, I believe. It is more of a niche app, whereas the default camera app is meant to be your everyday app.
I have had two other issues with Expert RAW, dealing with corrupted files, but that is a topic for a new thread.

"Actually, IN ADDITION to processing, for some reason, Expert RAW is capped at only 48Hz refresh rate. AFAIK."
Saying here that apart from the processing, the screen refresh rate is ALSO capped at 48Hz which contributes to that "laggy" feel on the screen when trying to work inside the app.

That heavy processing is made more complicated by the lighting conditions and the settings either the camera or the user sets. Like I said, using a higher ISO means more data has to be processed. Slower shutter speed combine with high ISO equals slow performance.
When using it in well lit conditions the lag is barely noticeable.
To be fair, there is a lot of room for improvement. If Samsung wants to market Expert RAW as a DSLR replacement, it has a lot of work to do.

I'M NOT SAYING THAT THE REFRESH RATE HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH HOW PROCESSING WORKS. I'm saying that the app has capped refresh rate so it also contributes to the laggy feel when you scroll inside it etc....
I didn't hear it, you can literally check the refresh rate of the panel while you're in the app.

"Bruh"
Before talking anymore, you should read the original post. The OP was talking about how long it takes to save a RAW image, which has NOTHING to do with the refresh rate. A higher screen refresh rate does not have anything to do with how fast an app runs. All it does is provide perceptibly smoother scrolling experience, better readability and use more batter. Expert RAW and the Camera apps don't require a lot of scrolling, so Samsung capped the refresh rate to help save battery. Your whole argument is moot.
