Usb-type C docks and recharge - Samsung Galaxy S10e Questions & Answers

A newbie question but I need to know before buying one: is it possibile to charge the battery of a Samsung S10e via a USB type-c docking station/hub?

I don't have one to test but i don't see why it would not charge, those docks are mainly used for charging

I have an Anker 7-in-1 hub. It charges the s10e just fine - and connects it to a keyboard, mouse, HDMI monitor and memory stick.

[Q]Charging using USB

When I connect my P6200 using usb, it doesn't charge, instead, there is an 'x' symbol at the battery. Is this normal? Because using my Galaxy Ace, it charges when usb is connected. I'm asking this because I'm trying usb tether for the first time, but in this case if it doesn't charge, it means that I can only usb tether until my battery has depleted and I would have to recharge again to be able to tether.
Yup. Usb is not able to charge tab and ipad. Need to plug to wall for charging

Actually it does charge. More of a trickle charge tho. If the screen is off, then it will trickle charge a bit faster.
If the tab is connected via USB, will it at least be able to sustain itself via the USB power?
So if your battery is on 50%, and you keep the tablet on and are using it. Will it at least stay on 50% and not decrease slowly?
Samsung puts a resistor in their chargers so the tablet can distinguish between a Samsung brand charger and all other chargers.
The tablet will not charge (or use power from) any USB port except the wall adapter. (lame Samsung... really lame...)
You can buy adapters (or make them)
There's more info for creating an adapter yourself in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845844
Just like the GT-P1000, P6200 is charging over the usb port of any pc, only when it is turned off. But anyway the charging process is much longer. Very useful when you don't heave the travel adapter with you.
i use this usb cable it work
It pulls a Max of 500mA from the USB or unknown charger. This will charge a tab plus with the screen off that isn't doing much. It will pull 1500mA from the Samsung wall charger.

My Plus charges normally from PC via USB. Icon shows 'x', but still in charging process anyway. It takes longer time but for those who tether should be ok and Plus should stay at least on the same level of %. I have unoriginal cable bought together with car charger.
I purchased a micro USB charger adapter from ebay. It just plugs into the 30 pin port and I am able to use my cell phone charger with no problem at all. The cell charger puts out 1000ma and the tab plus recognizes it. Do a search for P6200 Micro USB Charger Adapter on ebay.
If you are determined to use a computer to charge the tab plus, you will need the adapter above and a dual USB A to micro USB B Y cable. It will plug into two USB ports on the computer and give you the 1000ma to charge the tab plus. This is the best solution without having power cables all over your desk.
re
HEllo, where can I buy this cable?
thanks

or you can make it charge by requesting this feature in a custom kernel
Thanks
Yesterday I bought P6200 without charger, was using usb cable and it ws slow.
First I thought there might be some problems but this post helped me figure the cause

[Q] Charger Compatibility

I purchased an Energizer USB Wall Charger and Micro USB Cable - Specification: Input AC 100-240V ~50/60Hz 0.2A Output DC5V-1A
The charger that came with my Galaxy Nexus has the following Specification: Input AC 100-240V ~50/60Hz 0.15A Output DC5V-1A
My question is that the input is different on both chargers so will there be compatibility issues if I use the Energizer charger for my Galaxy Nexus or other phones that charge with a Micro USB port?
may you can now charging your device with this new charger but it will have bad effect in your device on longtime

[Q][A510]USB charging- possible or not?

Hi
I'm wandering if it's possible to mod my a510 to allow USB charging:
-according to teardown picture it's a standard 3.7V one (looks like 2 cells in parallel)
-charger is rated 12V but output is connected to extra pins- there are 2 rows of pins, one is USB and second one I guess is used by a dock
Except for making us use official charger I can't see any reason why USB charging is not present.
Do you know if it's possible to get a510/511 internal schematics?

I charge mine in our campervan off the 12V cigarette lighter plug.
The charging icon doesn't come on but it does charge, just very slowly - a few percent an hour.

But what charger do you use? Is it a standard USB adapter?

This plus USB cable works.
I've also tested the standard data transfer USB cable connected to the PC.
Try it, leave it charging overnight connected to your PC.
A normal USB-cable will be enough... It'S only very slow

Until yesterday I'd have said you "no" but this night I have changed my mind.
On another forum I've read of a user that succeeded in charging the A510 via USB even if slowly (2%/hour) and if the screen is off.
I've tried many times with some 5V 1.2A USB chargers with no luck
My girlfriend yesterday gave me as a present a Anker Astro3 12000mAh battery-operated USB charger with 2.4A output and it charged my A510 from 77% to 100% in about 4-5 hours.
So, it seems it's possible to charge the A510 with USB, if you have a powerful enough charger and enough time.

[Q] Nexus 5 alternative chargers?

Hello,
I was wondering, can I use the old charging cables from an LG Optimus Black and Samsung Galaxy S2 to charge the Nexus 5?
I also have a car USB adapter and a spare USB-to-microUSB cable.
Can I use all sort of plugs/cables that match the connector size, or should I pay attention to any details regarding current/voltage?
I noticed the original PS for the Nexus 5 supplies more power than all others I have, but that may just mean that it would charge slower, which to me is not an issue.
I not only want to avoid doing any damage, but also of course shorten the battery life!!
Thanks

Any Micro USB cable will work with the phone and you shouldn't have a problem with voltage or anything like that dont worry bro
I notice nexus 5 is very picky on your USB cable if u want a fast charge. So of notice it going pretty slow. Try another cable
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Any USB charger should be 5V. You could in theory get a cheap charger that is off by some amount, but even then it would have to be significantly higher (5.5V+) to cause damage.
Current just affects the charging speed. A 0.5A charger is just going to charge your phone slowly. Your phone won't draw more than 1.2A though, so a 2A charger would be fine.
I was wondering about the USB cable as well, if I recall correctly, didn't the Nexus 4 had one less pin in the micro usb cable and Google only recommended using their USB cables?
I have a tone of Samsung micro USB cables from my numerous E4GT that I went through. I also noticed that the N5 charger brick says 1.2 on it so it's not your standard 1 amp charging brick.

Unfortunately the N5 seems to report most chargers as USB Mode chargers rather than AC Mode. I've noticed this with my Battery Packs, multiple car chargers, as well as multiple home chargers that are cheap. The N4 reports them all as AC chargers, but the N5 reports them as USB Chargers

Silly question, but how do you tell the difference on your N5 from USB charge vs AC charge?
Not a silly question at all. Go into settings and check "Battery" when you get in there, It shows you xx% Charging ("Whatever you are charging through")

Goto Settings -> About -> Status -> Battery Status: Charging (USB) / AC
I've not used the bundled charger, just re-using my old one that is an AC Adapter with a USB cable. I'll check tonight to see if it's charging in USB or AC after all.

External keyboard power usage

Hello,
Recently I bought an "Y" OTG cable which has additional charger input. I own a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet, and unfortunately it doesn't charge through this cable. Anyway, asking teoretically, if I connect external keyboard through Y cable with charger plugged in, will this keyborad be charged from tablet or charger, or maybe charger is obsolete and keybord will drain battery anyway?
you need a kernel with usb otg + charge support. And a cable that emulates a multimedia / audio dock.
I made one of this cable, with a 65K resistor and works great.
Take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2402748 and at
