External keyboard power usage - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Accessories

Hello,
Recently I bought an "Y" OTG cable which has additional charger input. I own a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet, and unfortunately it doesn't charge through this cable. Anyway, asking teoretically, if I connect external keyboard through Y cable with charger plugged in, will this keyborad be charged from tablet or charger, or maybe charger is obsolete and keybord will drain battery anyway?

you need a kernel with usb otg + charge support. And a cable that emulates a multimedia / audio dock.
I made one of this cable, with a 65K resistor and works great.
Take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2402748 and at

[Q] Charging cable

I have just bought up my transformer ( Love it ) but it's at about 10% battery right now... I take the cable that came with it (the usb one) and plugged it into my computer but it is not charging ? Any idea what's wrong with it ? when i plug it into the charging unit it works fine though
i've heard it has to be turned off for the USB charging to work....
Like off as in screen off or off as in complete off ?
It will not charge in your computer. You have to charge it in the wall.

One of the pamphlets that came with it said the screen has to be off in order to charge it using a computer's USB port, cause the screen uses too much power and a USB port doesn't output as much, its best just to charge with the ac adapter. Nothing is wrong with your unit, thats just how it works.

Turn off the screen and it will charge. (you don't need to turn it off; you just need a black screen) It is very, very slow though.
My wall charger never charged my tablet so I am awaiting a replacement. The USB charge is MUCH slower than the wall charge. We are talking about maybe 4-5% an hour -- max with the USB cable alone.
Connecting this thing to a computer will NOT charge it. Even a normal 5V 1.2A-2A charger won't charge it fast enough. I used a 2A charger and it trickle-charged for over half a day and managed to clock in @ 50pc. I think the unit uses hardware info from the ASUS charger to detect the charger. Any other charger wont do.
Isn't the cable and charger USB 3 and charging is at non USB 2 values (voltage and current).
Good amount of mis-info in this thread...
The unit *will* charge from computer USB, assuming the USB port provides enough amperage (not voltage). I have not yet measured out the amps used, but it's on my list of things to do...
In order to charge from computer USB, the display on the Transformer needs to be off. The unit can be on, but it must be asleep.
The adapter that comes with the transformer provides 15VDC via extra pins which loosely resemble USB 3.0. These are *not* USB 3.0 data/power specs, however a USB 3.0 extension cord could be used to lengthen the existing adapter.
Any USB car adapter should work to charge this in sleep mode, similar to a computer USB port. In order to "fast charge" in a car, however, you'd basically need to use an AC inverter with an ASUS Transformer adapter.

Tried a 2.1A 5V charger. Took about 8 hours to charge @ 50pc. The ASUS charger is rated at 1.2A.
is the only way to plug the device into your PC or laptop via USB on the dock?
you cant use the proprietary charger cable to do USB data transfer with the charging cable USB component?
ie....to do data transfers via USB (not the memory card), the only way is via the dock?

No, one end of the charging cable is regular USB and the other end (tablet-end) is proprietary. You can transfer files over by connecting to your computer's USB.
awesome, thanks.
do you think that if you get a male/female USB converter, you could plug in a USB memory stick device or a mini hard drive device and have it work fine in the charging cable just like you would if you were to plug in a mini hard drive into one of the usb ports on the dock?

[Q]Charging using USB

When I connect my P6200 using usb, it doesn't charge, instead, there is an 'x' symbol at the battery. Is this normal? Because using my Galaxy Ace, it charges when usb is connected. I'm asking this because I'm trying usb tether for the first time, but in this case if it doesn't charge, it means that I can only usb tether until my battery has depleted and I would have to recharge again to be able to tether.
Yup. Usb is not able to charge tab and ipad. Need to plug to wall for charging
Sent from my GT-P6200 using XDA Premium App
Actually it does charge. More of a trickle charge tho. If the screen is off, then it will trickle charge a bit faster.
If the tab is connected via USB, will it at least be able to sustain itself via the USB power?
So if your battery is on 50%, and you keep the tablet on and are using it. Will it at least stay on 50% and not decrease slowly?
Samsung puts a resistor in their chargers so the tablet can distinguish between a Samsung brand charger and all other chargers.
The tablet will not charge (or use power from) any USB port except the wall adapter. (lame Samsung... really lame...)
You can buy adapters (or make them)
There's more info for creating an adapter yourself in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845844
Just like the GT-P1000, P6200 is charging over the usb port of any pc, only when it is turned off. But anyway the charging process is much longer. Very useful when you don't heave the travel adapter with you.
i use this usb cable it work
It pulls a Max of 500mA from the USB or unknown charger. This will charge a tab plus with the screen off that isn't doing much. It will pull 1500mA from the Samsung wall charger.

My Plus charges normally from PC via USB. Icon shows 'x', but still in charging process anyway. It takes longer time but for those who tether should be ok and Plus should stay at least on the same level of %. I have unoriginal cable bought together with car charger.
I purchased a micro USB charger adapter from ebay. It just plugs into the 30 pin port and I am able to use my cell phone charger with no problem at all. The cell charger puts out 1000ma and the tab plus recognizes it. Do a search for P6200 Micro USB Charger Adapter on ebay.
If you are determined to use a computer to charge the tab plus, you will need the adapter above and a dual USB A to micro USB B Y cable. It will plug into two USB ports on the computer and give you the 1000ma to charge the tab plus. This is the best solution without having power cables all over your desk.
re
HEllo, where can I buy this cable?
thanks

or you can make it charge by requesting this feature in a custom kernel
Thanks
Yesterday I bought P6200 without charger, was using usb cable and it ws slow.
First I thought there might be some problems but this post helped me figure the cause

Standard USB Cable for charging

I've unlocked and rooted my Nexus mainly to use the USB for extra storage.
Can I use a standard sized USB cable plugged into the OTG cable and into the Nexus charger?
Secondly caqan I use the Nexus charger for charging my Kindle or will the higher ampage charger cause problems for the Kindle?
Thanks

[Q]: Where can i find an extended mains power charger

hi,
i have just bought the S4, the only problem is the white mains power charger cable is too short for me.
Can anyone recommend an extended mains power charger that is compatible with the S4 i9505?
Thanks
Any micro usb will be fine just keep in mind the longer the cable the slower it will charge the phone. I personally bought a power strip to add more distance ... but I also have a 10ft usb cable that charges my phone very slowly
Don't listen to anyone that says to get a usb extension cable.
to answer you'r question, you can't get a longer cable for the s4, at this time.
the usb cable and charger are "special" you have to use what came in the box to be charging the phone at ~1.5 amps, if you so much as just use a different microUSB cable, the current will go down to ~0.75 amps (effectively doubling the required charging time). same goes for the wall adapter.

Usb-type C docks and recharge

A newbie question but I need to know before buying one: is it possibile to charge the battery of a Samsung S10e via a USB type-c docking station/hub?
I don't have one to test but i don't see why it would not charge, those docks are mainly used for charging

I have an Anker 7-in-1 hub. It charges the s10e just fine - and connects it to a keyboard, mouse, HDMI monitor and memory stick.
