I own the samsung note 10 plus 5g (uk version )it's a great phone and it has the best battery life of any phone I have ever owned .
I regularly have 50-60 % battery at the end of a day .
Untill this week I had only had the chance to try out 5g once.
I was working in Cardiff last month for only 4 hours or so but in this time I was able to run 5 speed tests in 5 different locations around cardiff .
Download speeds were good but not great, between 120 to 300 at best ,the down side to this was battery usage.
During speed tests I would lose 3%, but more concerning was the battery drain when the phone was in standby.
I lost 70% of battery life in the 4 hours of being in cardiff which did include 5 speed tests .
This was my first experience of 5g on my phone and I was not impressed .
This week i started a new job in a very small town which has full 5g coverage .
On Monday I started my new job and had forgotten all about 5g and the 5g experience in cardiff the month before , at around 10am having been in this 5g area for 2 hours I pulled out my phone to check the time and noticed the phone was very warm to the touch.
Then I remembered 5g , i check my battery percentage and was shocked to see I was on 70% already.
I never used the phone all day and my 5pm my phone was on 18% , this was just from standby.
The next day I disable 5g before getting to work and by 5pm this day I had 74% left .
I spoke to ee technical support and samsung technical support about this and they were both clueless saying the phone is working normally.
I did a factory reset and my FW is updated and it's still same .
As is Samsungs application of 5g in my note 10 plus is unusable .
If your thinking about buying into 5g I would recommend you think again .
The technology is clearly not ready yet .
If anyone else is having a better 5g experience then I can you let me know .
I think it's a samsung software problem, maybe they made it so that on 5G all apps start working on background?
Anyway, heat & drain is normal for 5G, but somewhere they say Sprint's 5G drainsalot less than other carriers, maybe it's ofyour service provider?
The same problem happened when they first released 4G phones, back in 2012
Note 10+5G battery drain issues
I turned on 5G and my battery was at 30% after 11 hrs of use. Next day I turned off 5G and only used 4G LTE and my battery was at around 62% turning on 5G drained my battery almost 30% it does not make sense spending an extra $300 for a 5G phone when it drains approx 30% faster than 5G LTE
As Mohamedkam000 noted, the same thing happened when the first LTE capable phones came out. Battery life was abysmal then, and it should come as no surprise that the first 5G phones will likely have terrible battery life as well. I live in a 5G city, but I have absolutely no interest in, or need for 5G. The only reason I'd even consider buying a 5G phone is for the larger battery, but I'd disable 5G and use LTE instead.
If you need 5G and live in a 5G city, then more power to you. But don't be surprised if you don't make it through the day without bump charging. That isn't a problem for people who have constant access to a charger. But if you don't like to be tethered to a wall, or don't have a job with a wireless charger within hand's reach, then you might want to reconsider jumping on the 5G bandwagon.
I read there will be a software update coming soon to fix the battery drain issue. The only update that i've received so far is for the security patch January 2020

so my battery life id say is average it may go down about 5 pct an hour with average use as in just texting or messing with it but no calls or internet.
when data gets turned on i often lose about 7 percent in 10 minutes.
im on 3G so obviously some drain is expected but this is absurd and didn't happen in the past.
any ideas?
or where have people found the best deals for batteries maybe i just need a new one
thats not obserd thats normal lol and ur lucky if im txting like all the time my battery may last maybe 3 hours lol
You might want to consider changing your radio version.
Out of intrest how old is your touch pro? I've had mine 18 months and the battery life over the past month or so has been degrading rapidly. I find that if i play a game then i get about 30 minutes battery life and web browsing kills the battery too in 2 hours. expansys or handtec should have replacement batteries available.
i just updated rom and radio and hasnt been a noticeable change.
i got it the day before it was released on att back in november so about 13 months now
yea i know what u mean i cant even get 3g to turn off and there is no 3g in my area only max edge if i am lucky

do you know how to get 3g to show up in the comm manager but it wont turn off? or need help with that in general
Verizon turned 4G on in my area Tuesday and I have noticed significant battery drain since it has been on. I just did the battery calibration on my Charge Monday and with the network setting on CDMA and it lasted 27.5 hours. When 4G went live I changed the network setting to LTE auto and it lasted all of 6.5 to 7 hours with very similar usage. Is this typical? My phone has been on for an hour and 15 minutes this morning and the battery has already dropped about 10% and I haven't even used it.
Welcome to the dark side of 4G
This seems to be the pain point for those of us who must be early adopters of the latest and greatest - in this case, the significantly improved speeds offered by LTE. The initial crop of phones just don't seem to have the efficiency or larger batteries (and therefore increased thickness and weight) needed to be able to use 4G all day.
At the risk of bringing the anti-Apple fanatics down on me, this sounds like the period not so long ago when there was no 3G iPhone because it would have made the iPhone either too bulky or too short-lived.
I am guessing we will need to wait a year or two for radios and battery technology to jump ahead before the promise is fulfilled.
In the meantime, get LTE Switch on the Market and spend most of your time on 3G...
Very good point. I wont complain much because I am fortunate enough (or unfortunate) to be by a PC all day to charge it if needed. Today is better than yesterday though as I am currently at about 6.5 hours and am at 67%. Thanks for the input.
I live near LA so I get pretty good 4G coverage, perhaps that means my radio's not switching back and forth all the time... I get ~12 hours with moderate usage
tapatalked from my VZ Droid Charge
I as well live near LA and get approximatly 18-24 hours but I keep wifi on when I am at home (from 5:00PM -7:00AM). That significantly reduces the battery drain, especially at night. BUt when im out on the go on the weekends I get around 12-14 hours.
I have 4G coverage where I live, but not where I work (20 miles away). I also don't have a wireless network to use at work, so every morning and evening I'm switching wireless on and off, and turning 4G on and off.
It's worth the effort though... battery life if acceptable that way and when I have 4G coverage, it's fast!
Hmm, doesn't sound too normal..I getting better batter life on 4G LTE all day..I get around 17 hrs..sometimes 26 hrs..with light to moderate use.
Two things that I know kill the battery for sure...One Blue tooth..if I turn bluetooth on it drops faster then having the display on...almost..I will only get 8 hrs to 10 hrs with blue tooth on.
Second..if my phone starts switchng between 1 EDVO, 3G and 4G because I am in a fringe area..my battery drains very fast..I get about 7 hrs a day if that happens.
6.5 to 7 hours seems really short. I'm in 4g all day, every day, and my battery will easily last 12-14 hours with moderate use.3
What apps are you using the most?

It switched a lot yesterday so maybe that was the problem. I am hoping that they were working the bugs out and that it was just a fluke. It hasn't switched at all today and I am on track for 16-18 hours.
I know, yet another battery thread.
Creating a new thread because the other threads on this matter are either old or do not relate to the 5G (EU - UK EE) model.
Using always on 90Hz 1440p as that's why I got this phone.
Phone is used mainly on WiFi, I do not live or work in a 5g area, only travelling through a couple of spots on way to work.
So far, I have not noticed any negative difference with Android 10, it has been the same as Pie for me.
The screen on time is quite good, if for example on a weekend day I am using the device much more, I can probably squeeze 6-7 hours easily.
However, on weekdays and days when it is not used as heavily, the phone only just about lasts a full day, always 10-15% when going to bed. On these days I am only getting around 4hours SOT.
I've installed Naptime and GSam and BBS. Attached some screenshots to show. Not convinced Naptime has any effect though as GSam is reporting the phone did not go into Deep Sleep at all today.
Just can't see how some folk are getting 1.5 days out of this phone with light use!
Any suggestions?
Bump
I've been using the Verizon branded Note 20 Ultra for over 2 months and the battery life started off great. My 4G speeds were consistently good and in many cases faster than 5G on other carriers. Since getting the 5G update in mid October, data speeds were the same on 5G as 4G and actually worse in areas where it switches between the two. Battery life is now terrible with about 20-30% less battery after 12 hours than before. Is there a way to disable 5G until the buildout is more consistent? I've tried using LTE/CDMA instead of Global under network settings but I'm not seeing much difference.
I had the same issue, the new update to 11 fixed mine
Hi,
I'm getting bad reception in my new Pixel 7 Pro. The phone is constantly warm (solved further in the thread) and it very easily loses connection and takes ages to get it back. I have had to manually turn airplane mode on and off in order to get coverage. Attached you will find my battery stats. Isn't it weird that mobile network sucks up so much battery?
I've installed the latest OTA and updated every app.
I'm coming from a 4 year old Pocophone F1 that had much better coverage.
Edit: I live in an area with great 5g and 4g coverage.
Edit II: the issue seems fixed with the 3.1 beta.
I would return it for a new device. I have had my P7P for 2 days now and the mobile reception and battery life have been better than my old P6P.
Yup, sounds like you have a faulty handset. I can only speak for myself, but the reception is far better than my Note 10 Plus. As an example, the phone is yet to jump onto WiFi calling in my house, something the Samsung did regularly.
As for battery life I only got the phone yesterday morning and when I powered it on it was on 70% so had enough to get me through the day. After fully charging it during the night I'm currently on my first full charge and looking at GSAM I'm on for a SOT of just under 6 hours. Nothing spectacular, but it's the first charge cycle so it's bound to get better after a week or so. Also, a lot of that SOT has been camera usage this afternoon.
No complaints so far.
Did you copy over data from your old phone? If so, time for a factory reset. It's always good practice to not restore apps, data, or settings to a new phone.
I might have found the culprit. I uninstalled the Fossil Smartwatch app (I had a Fossil Hybrid HR paired) and now the phone heats up less and I would swear it gets better coverage. Maybe the app was draining battery and the modem was trying to save power? I'll keep an eye on it in the following days.
Check if Gadgetbridge supports your watch. Most watch manufacturer's closed source software is toilet.

I am hoping the radio is much better than the p6p. Has anyone found specs on the radio? Edit: hopefully my title isn't too misleading. Apologies mods

Yup, the issue persists. Excessive heating is gone but I got in the metro today, lost connection and took literally 5 minutes to regain in an area where normally I get full coverage of 5G. I will give it a couple more days of testing and hopefully waiting for an update that might solve it before returning it.
P.S.: I sent a bug report through settings for what it's worth.
Update: contacted Google technical support and apparently Google is aware of the issue.
The issue as I described it: I was in an area with no wifi and no cellular network (the metro and a basement). Then, when I got back outside it struggled to reconnect. The one in the metro happened just today. It did not reconnect until I got home (a 5 min walk). There is normally 5g connectivity the whole way.
The response: I see. We have received isolated reports about this issue from other users. Our engineers are working for a fix which will roll out on the next updates.
