I'm getting bad reception in my new Pixel 7 Pro. The phone is constantly warm (solved further in the thread) and it very easily loses connection and takes ages to get it back. I have had to manually turn airplane mode on and off in order to get coverage. Attached you will find my battery stats. Isn't it weird that mobile network sucks up so much battery?
I've installed the latest OTA and updated every app.
I'm coming from a 4 year old Pocophone F1 that had much better coverage.
Edit: I live in an area with great 5g and 4g coverage.
Edit II: the issue seems fixed with the 3.1 beta.
I would return it for a new device. I have had my P7P for 2 days now and the mobile reception and battery life have been better than my old P6P.
Yup, sounds like you have a faulty handset. I can only speak for myself, but the reception is far better than my Note 10 Plus. As an example, the phone is yet to jump onto WiFi calling in my house, something the Samsung did regularly.
As for battery life I only got the phone yesterday morning and when I powered it on it was on 70% so had enough to get me through the day. After fully charging it during the night I'm currently on my first full charge and looking at GSAM I'm on for a SOT of just under 6 hours. Nothing spectacular, but it's the first charge cycle so it's bound to get better after a week or so. Also, a lot of that SOT has been camera usage this afternoon.
No complaints so far.
Did you copy over data from your old phone? If so, time for a factory reset. It's always good practice to not restore apps, data, or settings to a new phone.
I might have found the culprit. I uninstalled the Fossil Smartwatch app (I had a Fossil Hybrid HR paired) and now the phone heats up less and I would swear it gets better coverage. Maybe the app was draining battery and the modem was trying to save power? I'll keep an eye on it in the following days.
Check if Gadgetbridge supports your watch. Most watch manufacturer's closed source software is toilet.

Yup, the issue persists. Excessive heating is gone but I got in the metro today, lost connection and took literally 5 minutes to regain in an area where normally I get full coverage of 5G. I will give it a couple more days of testing and hopefully waiting for an update that might solve it before returning it.
P.S.: I sent a bug report through settings for what it's worth.
Update: contacted Google technical support and apparently Google is aware of the issue.
The issue as I described it: I was in an area with no wifi and no cellular network (the metro and a basement). Then, when I got back outside it struggled to reconnect. The one in the metro happened just today. It did not reconnect until I got home (a 5 min walk). There is normally 5g connectivity the whole way.
The response: I see. We have received isolated reports about this issue from other users. Our engineers are working for a fix which will roll out on the next updates.

Before 4G went out few days ago, I was getting pretty good battery life (40% - 60% remaining by bed time). Since it's been back online, my phone is only lasting about 6 or 7 hours before it starts to die.
Has anyone else noticed worse battery performance since 4G has come back online?

samesies....Idk what verizon did when the network went down but it was for the worse. Ever since I have had terrible battery life (did full restore, not that) and I lose data ALL the time. It's atrocious I have to reboot my phone like 7x to get data back. It will show as connected, but won't actually transfer anything.
I want this update pushed out immediately and hope that it fixes my data issue. I'm tired of not having data especially when I need it most (GPS)
Hopefully they get their network figured out so I can go back to using my phone like I did with my incredible

Yesterday, I ran my phone using 3G only; I turned off LTE. The battery was amazing (running Tesla Coil and lean kernel).
I'm wondering if I should just leave 4G off until I really need it to download a file or something. It would be a different story if Verizon was charging additional fees for LTE.
I had the same problem a few days ago, shortly after the network came back up. I noticed that my 4G signal, which once was always at "full," would bounce between half 4G, full 4G and then down to 3G without really evening moving the phone.
I think that, despite the network coming up, it still wasn't perfect on the signal and that's what was killing people's batteries faster. I'm now getting a solid signal and have noticed my battery life returning back to the way it way before. No empirical data here, just my observation.
my phone is jumping between 4g, 3g and no data so often that its worthless for downloading or browsing the web today. Been having this issue since the outage. I assume this is killing my battery.
It's much better today! I'm guessing the network wasn't fully functional until recently.

I am getting amaign 4G speed again. startign today, been flaky even after they fixed it.
I wasn't sure if it was because I installed Tesla yesterday or what, but I had only 30% battery drain in 15 hours yesterday, albeit on 3G.
I've been using 4g pretty consistently since I got the phone a few days ago, and haven't noticed any real battery life issues. I wonder if you really only get issues when the phone is bouncing back and forth between 3 and 4g?

3 days ago my mobile Internet flatrate ran out, I don't really think that this has anything to do with this but I try to provide as much information as I can.
My Nexus S was bought December last year and never really had any problems.
But now for 3 Days I have to charge that thing every damn day and the battery only lasts 18-19 hours instead of 2+ days. I haven't really used the phone in the last 3 days except from recieving calls and using whatsapp.
I have also not installed any apps in this time.

What does it say is the top consumer of power on the battery usage percent chart. We can't help you very much without that. Also, grab BetterBatteryStats. That will help tremendously as it can damn near narrow it down to a single culprit.

Yeah. Those two are probably trying to "phone home" constantly, thus causing a drain. That may be what the issue is. From the looks of it, it looks like your signal isn't stellar either. How good is Whatsapp over EDGE speeds? The 3g connection just might not be strong enough, trying to search for a signal and also draining the battery.

Your guess is quite good, because in my room and ONLY in my room there are some severe problems with network connectivity for almost everyone.
(But battery life was good just a few days ago?)
I currently have no mobile Internet and only use WLAN. Just disconnected phone from charger and will now see how it runs.

If you have "no mobile Internet" and WiFi is off (as in screenshot), this is your issue. The android processes are trying to re-connect keeping your phone from deep sleep. In Mobile Network Settings, disable Data. Turn on WiFi, and set Keep WiFi on during sleep to Always. When you are out of WiFi range, disable background sync.
I've noticed something on 4.0, at least in my case. Huge wake locks for no reason in airplane mode. The phone home thing is most likely the cause. Google must have changed something in the way their apps operate because this never happened in gingerbread for me.
Well, so I have observed it a little more and battery usage by google services is now up to 70%.

But why the hell does this issue come just now? I have 4.0.4 since it came out and the issue just appeared about 5 days ago.
I wish I knew. I've got mine in airplane mode now, but no SIM in it. I've got a G2 as my daily driver now. The Nexus hasn't had any more of the airplane mode wakeups strangely enough though. Wish I knew what was actually causing mine.

So to report back again, I tried SpookyTunes suggestion for one cycle of battery life.
Then after recharging I went into the app management and force-stopped the google services framework and deleted the cached files afterwards.
So now I'm back to 3% battery usage (from Google Services Framework) for the last hour.
I would give it more time to see what it uses over the course of the day.

I have a Galaxy S6 fro Rogers in Canada (no root) and I recently updated from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 and my battery life has gone to crap, my usage patterns and apps remain the same as before. Previously I would get about 4 hours SoT, 5 on a good day. Now I can barely get 2.5 hours SoT. I have no other problems with this phone, none of the RAM issues, lagging, or over heating other people have mentioned, my only problem is the poor battery life.
The apps are primarily use are Facebook, Puzzle and Dragons, Messenger, and Chrome, I realise that these are battery guzzlers but 2.5 hours is ridiculous and I used to get more using the same apps. I typically start using my phone around 8am from 100%, and by 5pm after 2.5 hours SoT it is around 20% battery life, previously it would hit 20% around 11pm with about 4 hours SoT. No apps are draining a particularly large amount according to GSAM.
To reiterate the things I have done to improve my battery life are:
1. disabling unused apps in application manager
2. setting brightness to lowest setting on auto
3. restarting phone
4. restarting phone in safemode
5. clearing cache
6. performing a factory reset after updating to 5.1.1
7. leaving wifi gps off when not in use (but I'm not constantly turning it on and off either)
8. Greenifying apps I use less than once a day (but anything with push notifications is not Greenified)
Additionally I have not moved or anything and reception in my area has always been decent. Any suggestions for what else I should do? My phone is still under warranty, should I send it to a service centre? Or should I try rooting it an actually deleting bloatware and having an ad blocker (though this would void the warranty...).
Please advise! I am very frustrated with this battery life.
Im having the same issue after updating the GS6 on Wind (Canada) to 5.1.1. Terrible battery life and Android OS draining battery as well. I barely get 2.5 SoT.
I'll join this unfortunate crew. I have to charge everyday before leaving work in order to get through the day.
Take off the charger at home when I leave and by the time I get to work(30-40 min drive) I'm at ~95%. By lunch I'm down to around 50%.

A lot of unhappy people with Rogers right now using the S6. I'm in the same boat. Crappy cell service, times it will show bars of 4G but then tell me there is no network connection. Try to make a call with full bars at 4G and it will say not registered on network. Text messages being sent and received twice automatically. No connection at all in places my HTC used to have 4G if not LTE. I had to send my S6 away for camera repair for a week so I pulled back out my old HTC M8 for that time and my connection was stable and awesome everywhere just like I thought it should be. Now that I'm back on my S6 it's barely hanging onto EDGE in places I had full 4G bars on the HTC like at my desk at work. Places I spend a lot of time at.
I suggest you call Rogers and talk to the tech support. Tell them your issues. The more complaints the faster the issue will be resolved. It sounds wide spread so don't waste your time trying to fix it yourself.

Thanks for the link, I didn't think to check the Rogers forums, I'll call their tech support to let them know of my issues and hope they are working on something.
I also have this issue. I was able to make it through an 8hr work day before the update. Now it's down to 10% or to completely dead. My usage at work did not change. Sucks that I have to plug my phone into my car just to get enough juice to make the drive home.
Just to confirm are you guys all now on 5.1.1 and is battery life the only issue you are experiencing?
I talked to a rep with my carrier (Rogers) and he said that the known issues were to do with connectivity (calls, data), but not with battery. He said battery issues that could not be resolved by a reset should sent in for service.

There was some discussion in various places about cell standby being a HUGE drain on the battery when connected to WIFI.
My issues are data and call related. I've never been one to care that much about battery but it does seem off from what I'm used too and I'm seeing some long times on the mobile radio being active.
I think it's safe to say that all of this stems for the 5.1.1 update. Cell reception "problems" can lead to big battery drains and if our phones are having issues staying in tune with the towers, it could cause big battery drain.
Keep an eye on what might be causing your battery drain though. It might be something silly like an app trying to do something.
I have also noticed a sharp drop in battery life now that I'm on 5.1.1.

I'm really at a loss. GSAM says "Android System" under apps as well as "Phone Radio" are the highest drain.

When I seen there was an update I was skeptical about taking it but I bit the bullet and now I'm getting the crappiest battery life.. too bad there's not a way to revert. Maybe there is, I have no idea. What I do know is the last build we were on battery was fantastic. I was amazed. Now, all I want is my nexus back lmao.

I've already had one replacement for a scratch on the screen. Would really prefer to not have another swapped out.
Is it really possible to get a unit with a defective battery? Especially with all the tests being done on these batteries now.

I also lose drastic battery life during my commute. But, the same was true on my S6. i think it's because my phone keeps going in an out of cell coverage, while stuck in a metal tube with hundreds of other people trying to connect. But, since you posted, I presume you are having uncharacteristic battery life on your commute that you didn't have on your prior phone, right?
To isolate the issue, is it feasible for you to turn off mobile data on your next commute, especially since you're listening/watching downloaded content? That way, you'll know if it's the mobile data polling that's creating your issue.

That's a good suggestion and I'll try it. I had a Nexus 6p prior to this and S7 Edge before that, both had mediocre battery but still better than this. Lots of my friends have this phone and get great battery life.

The latest patch as in the one that released today? If so, high usage is normal for a few days. If it's the update from last month, you might consider a factory reset and setting all your apps up from scratch. Time consuming for sure but gives you a clean slate with the battery.

I concur with this assuming you're on the May update which only just was released. I'd be patient and report back after a few days at least.

I just updated to the April patch due to a rooting error and reinstalled from scratch. Phone was fine prior to that.
Guess I'll just update to the newest one and see what happens? The strange thing is the high mobile network battery usage

If you just set your phone up from scratch, you have to give it a few weeks to learn your usage patterns.

Yep, this is what I see too, I posted the pics in another forum and got a number of "that's odd" comments, where my overnight drain due to the mobile radio was crazy-high (this happened back in the Nov timeframe, fixed with the Jan update, and started again with March, pretty consistent, for me).
I typically charge in the AM, wirelessly, while I catch up on emails and such, so the phone had light use all day, and the bulk of the discharge was from 12A until around 9A, when it was not in-use.
We're located in a suburban area with very strong LTE and decent 5G towers all nearby, with (almost) always very low (e.g. "good") dBM signal values, for the mobile radio.
I flashed the April update as soon as it was released. I have also noticed that my battery life has been a bit worse on the April update.
Furthermore, I also root my phone. However, I always do a full wipe and fresh install with each update. So, I can confirm that there does indeed seem to be a potential battery drain issue on the April build. And as you have stated, I believe that it has something to do with the mobile data scanning. However, when I stay connected to WiFi, my battery doesn't drain as quickly as it does when I turn WiFi off.
Regardless, the May update has released today and so I'll likely be updating to that tonight to see whether or not this faster battery drain issue continues.
*Edit* - The May update - although only running on my device for around 12 hours - does seem to have improved that battery drain issue that was visible on the April factory image. However, this mobile data battery issue could very well be a result of Google pushing out all of these carrier service updates. Of which, they are presumably doing so in order to test the stock OS setup for their two new devices that will be launching within the next month: the Pixel 7A and the Pixel Phold. Therefore, if carrier service testing was the culprit of this issue, then I wouldn't be surprised if we see this issue pop up again due to further mobile data stability/reliability testing.
*Edit 2* - May update was installed for a few days. My battery life is MUCH better. It is essentially how it was prior to the April update.

Did you find any fixes? i updated to the May build and the issue is even WORSE. Phone idle for last two hours after full charge, down 12% already from mobile wifi data. Its literally sitting screen off burning 6% per hour
four hours of on time after full charge. 15% battery discharge - done by mobile network....ive been on wifi the whole time.
what gives?

On the AndroidCentral forums a user referenced an actual Google support thread (which had been locked, interestingly), where they had supposedly been told, by support, to revert to 3G.
That's sort of tough to believe though, if you ask me, given the fact most carriers in Google's largest Pixel market sun-setted 3G some time ago (my carrier, TMo, did it last summer, not that I cared much, but I was tracking things).
I'd say they might have confused 3G/4G-LTE, except that they specifically called out moving from 5G/4G-LTE -> 3G, weird, eh?

I would bet this is because the algorithmic calculation is done based on carrier-type use, which would involve pretty much any interrupts regarding phone/sms/rcs.
My guess anyway, I tried this too, one night, and saw a similar deal.
Whatever the cause may be, it's software related and it's very aggravating. Phone was fine a few days ago
I had the same problem with the April update. due to a change of contract i now only have lte, no more 5g. Since then the battery has held up like it used to.
I have to wonder what some people are doing to make their phones...or batteries...so awful?
I have the latest May, 2023 update installed. I happened to sideload the OTA instead of waiting but I do not think that makes any difference in the end. However, the very first thing I noticed was that everything seemed a little smoother??? (placebo effect??)
The very next thing I noticed was battery life...mine improved exponentially and it wasn't bad before the update!
For example I removed the phone off of the Google wireless charger around 5 AM, then I used it on Android Auto for a round trip of about 33 miles, and when I got home (four hours off the charger) I was STILL AT 100% Hand-of-God!
When I went to bed around 9:30 PM (yes, I'm getting old) the phone was at 90%...honest to GOD again!
Looked at the battery again around 6 AM and it was at 85%. The phone was on all night with DND activated, but everything else active.
I can only guess that one of two things are happening here...either some of you have installed crap-apps that have hosed your phones, or.....you have defective phones/batteries.

I haven't noticed much of a change with the battery after applying the March update, purposely left the phone off the changer overnight with battery at 100% (12am) - looked at the phone at 6am and percentage was down to 97%.
Whatever the cause may be, it's software related and it's very aggravating. Phone was fine a few days

I have the latest May, 2023 update installed. I happened to sideload the OTA instead of waiting but I do not think that makes any difference in the end. However, the very first thing I noticed was that everything seemed a little smoother??? (placebo effect??)
The very next thing I noticed was battery life...mine improved exponentially and it wasn't bad before the update!
For example I removed the phone off of the Google wireless charger around 5 AM, then I used it on Android Auto for a round trip of about 33 miles, and when I got home (four hours off the charger) I was STILL AT 100% Hand-of-God!
When I went to bed around 9:30 PM (yes, I'm getting old) the phone was at 90%...honest to GOD again!

did you read the post or just decide it was user error b/c your battery life is fine right now?
There were multiple pictures posted of the mobile network battery drain which has been documented elsewhere and confirmed by another user in the thread.
Battery life was great until the April update then the mobile network drain started which hasn't been corrected by multiple updates and full wipes.

that's how mine was previously
May update. Great as usual. Avg 6-7hrs SoT (which am happy with, consider i have 8 running app services and near 24h vpn)
