More granular volume control without root? - ASUS ZenFone 6 (2019) Questions & Answers

Anyone know if this is possible? It's the only thing slightly bugging me with stock ZenUI hence I don't want to root.

Try this... enable developer options. In order to do this you need to go to: settings > about phone > then click "build number" 7 times. This will enable "Developer Options". The next step is to go into the Developer Options, in here you want to find "Absolute Volume". Change the setting of this to whatever it isn't (so if off turn on, vice versa)
This should fix it! The issue is that the earphones have separate volume setting to your phone, but you cannot change the earphones volume separately. Absolute volume combines them into one. I hope this helps!

I'm using wired headphones without volume adjustment. The issue is that there aren't enough steps while adjusting volume so it goes from soft to too loud within one adjustment. I know custom ROMs have this feature but was just curious if it's possible to implement without root, via an ADB tweak or similar?

I lost all my profiles! (NOrmal, Silent, Vibrate..etc)

Hi,
I don't know what happended but maybe due to software installation...etc I jsut found out that I can not change my phone profile from normal to vibrate or silents...etc when I go to profile, they are all blanks!!
Thanks
Go into profiles and click the right button. Click on "4 Reset to default"! Maybe that helps.
I wen to profiles but the right button does not have any options.
Oh, I didn't expect that^^
Look in your Windows folder if you have something like "Silent.def.prof.xml" - probably hidden.

Good phone profile software

I'm hoping that I don't need to install any third-party apps for this - I need to be able to easily switch the speaker off when I walk into a meeting or get caught in a conversation with someone where answering the phone would be considered rude. Yes, I know that you can go into the settings menu and change options there, but I'm hoping that there's an easy way to switch all sounds off from the home screen without needing to navigate through various menus to get there.
Is there some way you can do this without needing third party software? If you need third party software, what's the options?
You could just press the volume down key and tap silent... That's the easiest method.
Ageye offers "g-profile" for free, and that has a profile creator. It's what I use, so you can check that out.
This is built into the phone, just go to SETTINGS (tab) > SOUND & DISPLAY and check the "Automatic" option for Profiles.

Yeah I know about that option, but I was hoping for some way to silence it quickly without having to define an appointment for it. But thanks for the info anyway Nighthawk.

[Q] Low Volume Voice Calls?

Hey guys,
I've been experiencing really bad call volumes on this phone :/ people can barely hear me unless I tilt the phone up, move my mouth directly in front of the mic and shout
I've searched and apparently a lot of Samsung phones have this issue. I changed the settings using the service code below, but I think this resets after every boot?
•Go to dialpad.
•Enter this number *#*#197328640#*#*
•This will open the service mode menu.
•Select option [5] AUDIO
•Select option [1] (VOICE CALL)
•Select option [2] HEADSET
•Select option [1] Volume
•Select option [1] SRC Speech RX Volume
•Select option [5] 5_lvl : 87
Click to collapse
Options don't show up under Voice Call but if I manually input the number (the settings button brings up more options), I can access the options.
Anyway to make this change permanent so it doesn't reset after boot? Anyone else having this issue? Would flashing a radio, like Blaze 4G, solve this?
I'm on GOV 3.2
Have you tried cleaning out the microphone opening? You might be able to use a piece of fine wire to ream out the microphone hole along the bottom edge. Or even pop the back off and lift the motherboard out as shown in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466906 to clean the mic passage directly. The microphone is on the back side of the circuit board, with a small hole through the PCB into the mic channel, so there's no risk of poking through the mic membrane by pushing straight into the hole in the bottom of the phone.
Yup dirty mic, I see it all the time at work. Best thing to do is open the phone, but if not then just grab a small pin then gently poke it straight or like if you would do to your ear with a cotton swab.

3.3 has more tweaks added, side note. Blaze4G modem helps with battery and connection speeds and reception definitely, as for crystal clear quality I haven't noticed a difference from that and the stock radio. But it also can't hurt your call quality either. If something goes amiss, restore the default radio.

Didn't they tell you when you were young?
"Never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear."
I do not recommend attempting to validate this axiom.
Microphone is clean, this is a pretty new phone and all. This is what I do after every reboot:
1.Go to Service Mode -> *#*#197328640#*#* on Dialer
2. [5] Audio
3. [1] PATH page 1 -> going onto this shows a MENU NOT EXIST but going into Menu, I access Key Input and input 1
4. This brings me to the Headset setting. I pick [1] Volume
5. I change [5]vol_5 to 88.
And that makes everything loud again. Here's the thing, after every reboot, the default level is set at 0? Maybe thats why its so low? Can someone confirm what their default setting on Service Mode is? I guess I'll just have to keep doing this each time I reboot since I don't see any way of making it stick :/
Jin, to default back to stock radio, would I have to ODIN?
My phone shows 0, and it works perfectly.

No. You would not. Check the modem thread. Look for KJ2.

Hmm thanks for checking guys. I must have gottten a faulty phone (knew I should have shelled out on the Droid 4 instead -___- ) ... guess I'll try flashing the 4G radio, if not, I'll go back to stock.
PS - I feel stupid for asking but ... does nandroid back up radio too? O.O

Vibrate When Plugging In For Charge?

I'm new to Android and I can't seem to find the answer to this question.
When you plug in an iPhone for charging, it vibrates briefly to let you know it's charging?
Is there a similar setting for the Nexus 5? I can't seem to find it in Settings and as I searched Xposed modules and Play Store widgets, none of them seemed to have this exact setting or feature.
When I search the forums here, all I find are people who seem to be suffering from a defect and don't want their phone or tablet vibrating when they're plugged in.
To be clear, I just want a short vibration and a short screen wake when I plug into a micro USB cord for charging. This would confirm to me that the phone is actually charging.
Thanks in advance!

I can't remember if the stock software updated to do this but for example, I'm on SlimKat ROM and I can set to vibrate, play a sound, and wake up the screen. Some ROMs may have other options as well.
I'm not sure if an app would do this but mostly I've always seen it built into the ROM itself.

For SlimKat:
Settings > Display > Wake up on charge
Settings > Sound > Advanced options > (Enable, Vibrate, Notification sound). The sub menu in Advanced options is called "Power Connectivity Alert".

I am using 4.4.2 Kit Kat stock. I don't have the "Wake up on charge" setting under the Display settings.
Under Sound, I do not have "Advanced Options" under Sound.
Thank you for helping. I'm relatively new to Android; I'm not to the point where I'm considering flashing modified ROMs onto my Nexus 5 yet. I like that I'm able to root stock Android relatively easily and use the latest version of Android essentially when it becomes available. It's something I took for granted using iOS. It's nice to be able to go to the latest and greatest on the Nexus 5 essentially as soon as it's out.
Is there another way to do what I want to do without installing SlimKat?

It is possible to do it without SlimKat but I'm not sure. Stock Android is rather lousy even with root. Custom ROM's are the only way to go with the exception of losing proprietary features. So you won't have the options I've told you, it would be on SlimKat ROM. I recommend you read sticky threads on XDA to beef up your knowledge. You may also want to search the Play Store and see if apps are available to do these functions until you decide you wish to use custom ROMs.

I set it to vibrate most of time as I'm in meetings most days and coming from iOS, I'm not in the habit of switching the volume back up when I'm done. When set to silent, the iPhone vibrates when I plug it in to charge. That's the functionality I'm looking for really as I try to sneak a charge whenever I can, i.e. in the car, etc. It's nice to get the confirmation vibrate that it's charging without having to turn the volume back up.
Maybe it's not possible on stock or a widget or via Xposed. Just wondered if someone knew if I could get that functionality on stock but rooted Android.
Thanks!

II guess you could just change the build.prop to make it do this.
Also I just realised it only chimes when placed on a wireless charger lol.

There's an Xposed module that will let you get a lot more granular if you're WIRELESS charging,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587431
LOL, but nothing it seems, for basic Micro USB cable chargers.
Have you seen my mobile app which does exactly the same.

low in call volume

so ive read all the threads i could find on the issue with no conclusive answers. my fathers pixel has insanely low volumein call when its not on speakerphone. ive browsed every forum i could and tried every suggestion available. anyone know of a quick fix? he needs this phone for work.
Having the same problem with my XL. I sent the google store a message and they called me back. The guy said that's how it's supposed to be. I told him I it was wasn't loud enough at max level and he suggested that I go to the google store and try some of the volume boosters. Not real happy with this!
Here's the email he sent me....
If you are having any audio, speaker, or microphone issues with your device, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Update to the latest version of Android OS.
Go to Settings > About phone / tablet > System updates and select Download or Check for updates
If your device is modified or rooted, revert your device to original factory image since troubleshooting steps may not work on modified/rooted devices. You can use our Nexus factory images to re-image your device.
Step 2: Remove obstructions.
Remove any cling film, stickers, covers/cases/bumpers, or anything else that can be obstructing the device.
Step 3: Enable safe mode on your device.
Ensure your device's screen is on, then press & hold the Power button.
Touch and hold the Power off option in the dialog box.
Tap OK in the following dialog to start safe mode.
To exit safe mode, turn your device off and on again.
If you discover that the issue doesn't occur while your device is in safe mode, it's likely that a third-party app or Android OS modification is causing the issue. You can start to use and narrow down your installed apps to try to pinpoint the specific app. When the culprit is identified, you can uninstall the app or contact the developer of the app for further support as follows:
Navigate to play.google.com.
Find the app and click on it to view its main page.
Scroll down to the "Additional Information" section. Here, you'll see "Contact Developer" options.
Step 4: While in safe mode, turn off Bluetooth.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and if Bluetooth is on, tap the slider near the top to turn Bluetooth off.
Step 5: While in safe mode, make sure the volume is on.
Go to Settings > Sound.
In Volume settings, slide all three indicators all the way to the right to make sure all sound is on and at max volume.
Note: When each slider is adjusted, a sound will be heard.
Step 6: If the volume buttons on the side of your phone aren't working, check Switch Access settings.
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Switch Access.
If the slider near the upper right corner is on, tap it, then tap OK to turn it off.
Step 7: Check if the issue is resolved.
Play with the volume levels to hear sound.
Make a test phone call.
Use Google Now to test your microphone.
If your issue isn't resolved, continue to the next step.
Step 8: Reset your device to factory settings.
If you're still unable to resolve the issue, or if the issue is so severe that you can't boot your device into safe mode, resetting your device to factory settings may help. Resetting your device to factory settings will erase all local data on your device. Backup of your personal local data (pictures, music and video files) is recommended.
To backup personal data on your device
To reset your device to factory settings
If your issue has been resolved, great! Let us know.
If your issue was *not* resolved and your device still experiences audio issues, call us or reply to this email and reference that you already went through our Audio troubleshooting steps which included resetting your device to factory settings.
If you have any more questions, please reply to this email. I'm happy to help!
Thanks!

i have the same type of issues. The volume on this device is just too low. I constantly try to turn up the volume, but when maxed out, it stinks. I'm on the latest version of android 8.0.0 as of this posting. safe mode didn't solve anything. factory default didn't fix anything either. Same Low volumes. I have no issues with volumes on my older Note5. makes me wonder if i need to switch over the new Note 8.
Maybe i'll have better luck if i root the phone and find an app to boost the volumes.
