My mom followed me to #teampixel (in her case, to the original Pixel). Like me, she's running dead-stock. However, because she is used to low-end phones, she has a rather unusual problem - her Pixel is faster than she is used to!
She came from the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) which runs Nougat by default - a racehorse it is not. (It is - literally - the same age as her current Pixel; that tells me that Google got a lot right hardware-wise with the original Pixel.) No - said Pixel is NOT running Android 7 (or even 7.01 - which it shipped with); it has followed me to Android 10. (Both of us - except for my dark mode - are running dead-stock - and by choice.) Therefore, it's decidedly unusual - too fast?
Increase the animation speed to 4x lol
LOL Root it and underclock the hell out of it

Hi, I'm a galaxy nexus user and I was thinking on changing to the Moto G. Specifications look very similar (I get two more CPU cores and FM radio and lose NFC and replaceable battery) but from what I've read the optimization of this phone is awesome so performance is much better compared to other phones with the same hadware (but galaxy nexus is a google phone so the difference may not be that big).
Will it be worth to change or I won't get significant differences? Also if someone actually moved from galaxy nexus to moto G and could tell me the difference it would be awesome!
Thanks in advance.
Hi i just switched from GNex to MotoG
-battery is much better with Moto G had 5:30 Onscreentime instead of max. 4h with same APPs and usage on GNex (with 2000mAh advanced battery, snappy PSX Rom and Mpokang custom kernel).
-i did not use NFC so its no loss for me
-the 5GHz was nice to have on GNex but my GNex was faulty two times and had to be replaced via RMA because the 5GHz radio TX amplifier suddenly dies for no obvious reason .... other users had that too: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22474#c93
-Video streaming was broken for me on GNEx since 4.3 update (and all 4.3 custom roms had same problems) - only 4.2.2 worked fine see https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=59020
the MotoG works fine although i use 2,4GHz instead 5GHz WLAN now
-no more AMOLED display which is a little loss for me - was getting used to the colors
-the camera on GNex was a little bit better - but MotoG is okay - there are worse cameras on the market...
good thing is - i'll sell my old phone for ~ 100€ so i paid only ~69€ for the new phone....
price / performance is really good with the MotoG
i think there will be a big community with this phone -> CWM is already available also is root.
custom roms are starting....

just found that hw accerlation (video streaming) has been fixed in the meantime:

Thanks for the quick reply, it was very helpful. One more question, about the processor, does it feel any difference in the app opening time or using heavy apps like chrome (it works quite laggy in my gnex)?
Thanks

I'm in a similar position, thinking of moving form GNex to Moto G.
Those who have made the shift from GNex to Moto G, how much of a difference does it feel while opening apps? Do apps open faster from cold start?
Also one of the things I had issues with was retaining apps in RAM. Many times I have tabs open in the browser and when I switch back to the browser couple of hours later, all the tabs are gone because the browser process gets killed. Similar with games like PvZ2. If I switch apps while playing, I can't resume and the game starts again.

Chrome feels great on the Moto G - i have no lags at all - also normal usage is snappier in my opinion. Back to Homescreen and power up time after reboot is really fast too. I am pretty happy that i did this upgrade.
Got a brand new Galaxy S7 from AT&T a few days ago - everything is very fast as expected except one thing... games.
Noticed it first in Candy Crush Jelly - sometimes things will "freeze" like a lag spike hits them. When I move something in the game, the screen animation doesn't do anything at first then will catch up a second later.
Verified it by testing a few other games (Sonic Dash, Rayman Adventures) - there are definite hiccups among animations from time to time. It isn't TOO obvious but it's there.
I have tried disabling all the Samsung Game services and Game Launcher - doesn't solve it. Also tried using Google Now launcher but there is quite a bit of free RAM no matter the launcher in use so not sure that's it either.
I switched from iPhone where this wasn't an issue so it's fairly noticeable - is it normal or is this something I can fix?
iphone in general superior than android in gaming, and S7 is the worst gaming device i ever seen, sammy screwed up with 6.0.1 in that regard, Note 5 is light years faster than s7 with android 5.1.1, but with 6.0.1 it suffers the same freezes.
There is no solution atm, not all games effected but a lot, at least all i tested.
does MI4 fit for my needs & still worth buying? which version meets my requirements?
things i do:
95% of time - switching between many browser's tabs, background music, youtube & few common apps like taptalk, whatsapp etc.
5% of time - GPS & camera (as main camera) during some trip/journey.
things i care:
1. I don't use it so much, but when i do - FAST performance:
- I can't wait 2+ minutes for GPS/camera app to load/reload when i'm stuck alone in the middle of nowhere and have transportation time limitations.
- I can't tolerate slow/closing/crushing with working load of several browser tabs + music/youtube/taptalk/whatsapp in the background.
2. battery & future:
- official roms. I'm tech savvy. built Linux's kernels when i were a kid, managed to survive (until now) with iPhone4 & a lot of hacks.
- battery should last - I would do almost everything to avoid charging when i'm not at home (lectures in college, trips, car etc.)
things i don't care: games, UI features, fingerprint scan, NFC, LTE, turning off UI features & even 3G sometimes, non-english localized UI (just keyboards).
why MI4
1. very high clock speed per core (high clock speed is more important than no. of cores for my usages, i don't game)
2. a lot of official roms, including CM. I don't want to get stuck again without the option to use my phone properly, like installing basic apps. It happened with my iPhone4 & iOS7 being its last iOS version.
which version?
After a lot of reading & digging - I understand there's some ROMs headache with the LTE-CT & LTE-CU (both 2gb ram).
For flashing roms without problems i should prefer the CU? as i said, i need future via flashing roms & battery, not LTE/NFC/etc
At the same price range there's the 4C, but i don't know if it's not worse in the clock-speed&roms section ("why MI4")
A big price jump (maybe too big for 2014's model) would get me NON-LTE 3g model with 3gb ram.
I would appreciate and thank any opinion or insight.
Tbh, any model suits your needs decently.
Mi4 LTE have fewer Roms available compared to 3G Mi4. 3G mi4 can take all mi3's rom (which is plentiful now) without having problems while Mi4 LTE cant. Please go check the Android development box to see if there's a good ROM on your desired version of Mi4. Stock rom works fine and updates regurlarly. If you want to take the most out of the camera , use the stock ROM. If you want to take the most out of the performance and hate Xiaomi theme, use CyannogenMod. Battery on stock rom is inconsistent but it depends on the version, but consistent on Cyannogenmod ( me currently using cyannogenmod, 5+ hour screen on time with no gaming cuz i dont game a lot).
And take the 3GB ram version if possible. It's just better :-?
So much stuff OnePlus broke for no reason at all.
(This 1st point is for all OnePlus devices on Android 10)
1. The screen calibration from Android 9 was perfect! OnePlus broke it in literally every OnePlus device and made it hella uncomfortable to my eyes just to use the same damn phone. Vivid and all are dull and Amoled Wide Gamut is too damn harsh.
(I gave so many feedbacks but thanks to OnePlus's arrogant behaviour towards its customers and not fixing it)
2. GCams which made me love my OnePlus 6 are not working properly.
SuperResZoom is broken.
Gcam, only one version works now and can't use the cloned GCams which worked flawlessly on OOS 9.0.9, now just stops the HDR+ processing at 75% and other versions don't work on OxygenOS 10 but works fine on Android 10 custom roms.
(broke it for no reason at all!)
3. Auto Brightness takes painfully 10seconds+ just to adjust. (broke it for no reason)
4. 2.4ghz Wifi Link speed is still capped to 65mbps- 72mbps. After rooting and flashing a Magisk module namely "WIFI BONDING" the link speed goes upto 300mbps.
This issue I've only faced in my OnePlus 6 and my other phones like Redmi K20 Pro, Poco F1, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 all have 150mbps-300mbps by default.
(Again gave so much feedback yet no response from OnePlus)
5. Front camera now doesn't allow to zoom at all. (broke it for no reason) (not a big one tho)
6. Also Much worse battery life and slower charging times.
OOS 9 - 0-100% takes 72-75minutes.
OOS 10 - 0-100% takes 90-95minutes
Battery life - approx 12% per hour on OOS 9
Battery life - approx 18-20% per hour on OOS 10
Other than that OnePlus 7T does not have their own OxygenOS Special Navigation Gestures. Like what? Why? The little things that made me a loyal buyer and fan of OnePlus, they are just removing that for no reason?
I made my friend buy a OnePlus 7 Pro even tho I knew the prices would fall like crazy but I still asked him to get it at 53k because I trusted OnePlus and I was a genuine fan of their work and I loved their software, the lovely OxygenOS and the OnePlus brand which listened to their consumer's problems and then gives fixes.
But now I'm done.
Guess I'll stick to Android 9 on this OnePlus 6 and will get a S11 or anything else but OnePlus.
OnePlus is losing all their loyal fans by this stupiduty just like they lost me. I did recommend earlier but now definitely a big NO.
Let's see if they fix these or not. If they dont then surely a goodbye to them.

Every single point is very very true!
Anyone having problem with screen cast. I think this one broken too. Cant connect to my LG TV using screen cast from QS and setting. But Youtube cast button works with no issue. Works perfectly before in android 9.
More reasons why i will stay on 9.0.9.....it just works!
They've already lost my trust, I've been with OnePlus since the op3, op6 now and this is my last one. I'm going with Xiaomi
This is why I am staying on 9.0.9 and have not attempted to once even try and upgrade to 10. I have 10 on my Pixel 2 XL, works FLAWLESSLY. OP has really dropped the ball here and if they continue on this path, I'll be looking for another phone in about a year when I want to upgrade that is made by someone else.

Agreed! That problem is faced by me too! It isn't phone specific they messed up man.....
Screencast is woking fine on my end with samsung tv and QC. I am on beta 32.
Why my Gboard keyboard raised up for at least one key height?! Is that a bug?
Took me sometimes to fix the clipboard back thx Android Q...

The only issue I have, that I know is, Google Photos app. It casts but stays at the splash screen. multiple chromecasts and built-in chromecast Toshiba TV.
Screen casts no issues here.
OB1-3 and stable 10.3.0
can I somehow disable the notification that a system update is available? I don't want to upgrade after reading this but the notification sticks and cannot be swiped away.

No. That is indeed intended because google is featuring it's on gesture control by now and wants users to not trigger gestures while using the keyboard.
There is a rudimentary fix, you can google for it. But it involves messing around with adb to change the dpi or some kind of thing like that.

Thx for the answer dude! Poss takes sometime to adapt it.
How about the left screen (widget page) that only the upper screen touch work sometimes? It is fix by rebooting the phone but can't do it everytime right?!

you can freeze that system app using titanium backup or similar. I do not recommend uninstalling it fully though.
I have termporary slow downs. It seems like there is a memory leak, either in android 10 or oxygen 10.3.0.
Anyone else has the same?
1. Wide Gamut - cool - looks good.
2. Arnova Gcam beta works perfectly.
3. Takes around 5 sec for me.
4. Agree
5. Shouldn't use digital zoom in the first place.
6. Never tested\cared.
7. Battery life does seem a bit worse, flashing custom kernel made it better.
My girlfriends S9+ is still on android 9, has issues with dark netflix videos, freezing in general occasionally, whatsapp broke once completely and had to reinstall a few times to make it work, took them over a year to fix the camera light glare, no working gcam.
Gcam looks same and sometimes better than S9+.
Non-English character are not displaying properly.
Basically Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tamil and etc are not displaying properly. Anyone got a fix?

Which method did you use? I don't care about losing data. Just want to keep unlocked bootloader and root the easy way, via TWRP if possible. I basked up my 9.0.9 system before going to 10.3.
Sent from my OnePlus6 using XDA Labs

1. Try out Wide Gamut and have a look at Reds. They burn your eyes, too damn saturated.
2. 1 Gcam works fine but if I want to access the Aux camera or MJL and Xtreme's both we can't.
3. Used to be 2secs in OOS9
5. Still having a option and then removing makes no sense.
7. There shouldn't be a need to flash a custom kernel when it was pretty damn goood on stock one.
This is my first time using a pixel experience rom infact it's also my first time using any Android 12 rom and it's also my first time using an AOSP based rom, so please bare with me if I look absolutely stupid (i already apologize for that)
Just flashed the unofficial pixel experience plus on my poco X4 pro
here are some stuff i like and don't like about the rom
I flashed it using adb sideload with lineage unoffical recovery for the device
Before anyone asks yes it also works for the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G (Since when did naming phones become similiar to writing a dictionary?)
This build of pixel experience plus uses the perf kernel which is somewhat okay for performance
Rooting - Rooting a pixel experience rom or any GSI rom is harder than rooting Miui roms but i guess for you guys it's not that hard...
Performance - I'm sorry but for some reason I could not get Antutu Bench Mark to run on the device with pixel experience installed
Everytime I tried to install the Antutu benchmark 3d apk it would give me an apk parsing error I've tried rebooting several times but cannot find a solution yet
Miui Eu used to give me around 360k - 390k
Though I could not get Antutu Benchmark to run on the device i can definitely feel it being much smoother and by using an fps meter in high demanding games such as cod mobile i can see a difference in fps
For some reason no fps unlocker could unlock 120 fps for cod mobile on miui but somehow it works on the pixel experience plus
Also with pixel experience plus you can set CPU Freq and GPU Freq to max without it reverting back just like Miui (I do not recommend doing this as it is not good for the processor)
UI - This is obvious but Pixel Experience Plus is much much better, the animations are smooth the full screen gestures have no problems
Battery Backup - Yeah unfortunately it's worser than Miui but not by a crazy margin
Fast Charging - This is where pixel experience plus lags behind the fast charging isn't as fast as it was on Miui
Touch Issues - This is a very rare occurance but there are ghost touches occuring especially when the phone is left in idle state with screen on for some time
Sound Quality - Noticeably worser than Miui sadly...
Bloatware - very few like chrome (some people like chrome being installed though but i personally use brave browser) but you can easily remove it by the several methods u can find on the forum or through YouTube
Camera - it comes installed with Gcam Go and the photo quality is good but you should probably use Gcam itself
Proximity Sensor - Broken, phone screen stays on during calls
Bluetooth calling: Broken, causes phone to crash
Data/Wifi Connectivity - I can feel my wifi being a little bit slower on this device compared to my other but it could just be a me thing
SafetyNet - Passes by default
Overall - Great if you don't like heavy customisations, raw performance, a little bit slower charging (which is actually good for your battery) and material you theming
What do I miss from Miui?
Game Turbo - Although Pixel Experience Plus has a game mode inbuilt it's no way as good as Miui Game Turbo
Floating Windows - I guess there is no beating Miui when it comes to Floating Windows...
Would appreciate if anyone knows any kind of fixes to my problems mentioned above...

Oh yeah was unable to test those but I'm gonna add them thanks
How is the camera resolution in gcam /pixel expirience ? In miui I never get more then 12mp, never the 108mp like with the original cam
I'm using Pixel Experience 13, and the camera takes 12.0MP 3000x4000 resolution.
Is the proximity sensor still broken even now in 2023?
@BR4UTAL do you plan any further releases, as the official ROM has still no updates yet? I think many of us users of this phone are desperate for a stable release plan. Maybe you can connect to the official maintainer and share your work via the PE offical channels.
For now great work so far....
