Game Lag Spike/Hiccups? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Got a brand new Galaxy S7 from AT&T a few days ago - everything is very fast as expected except one thing... games.
Noticed it first in Candy Crush Jelly - sometimes things will "freeze" like a lag spike hits them. When I move something in the game, the screen animation doesn't do anything at first then will catch up a second later.
Verified it by testing a few other games (Sonic Dash, Rayman Adventures) - there are definite hiccups among animations from time to time. It isn't TOO obvious but it's there.
I have tried disabling all the Samsung Game services and Game Launcher - doesn't solve it. Also tried using Google Now launcher but there is quite a bit of free RAM no matter the launcher in use so not sure that's it either.
I switched from iPhone where this wasn't an issue so it's fairly noticeable - is it normal or is this something I can fix?

iphone in general superior than android in gaming, and S7 is the worst gaming device i ever seen, sammy screwed up with 6.0.1 in that regard, Note 5 is light years faster than s7 with android 5.1.1, but with 6.0.1 it suffers the same freezes.
There is no solution atm, not all games effected but a lot, at least all i tested.

[Q] Freezing in games galaxy tab 2 7"

So i've started to really start using my tab 2 and i have started realizing that the performance leaves a lot to be desired. Specifically I'm having an issue where the screen will turn black for a second or two while playing a game. I've also noticed that some games will pause for no reason. These games include shadowgun, elemental, and tower defense. It's kind of irritating. I'll get an occasional freeze followed by a crash.
Any ideas? The processor isn't a power house but it can't be THAT bad. I can't wait to be able to overclock this thing..
I have seen this happen to my Galaxy Tab 2 (7) every once in a while. What I have noticed using the app "Watchdog" is that there is a system process (I am at work so cannot access/remember it) that every once in a while chews up 40-60% of the processors juice(Could be a TouchWiz process... i wouldn't know) ... This thing should fly once we have it rooted and once we have our devs clean it up and get some cleaner roms out
Hang in there mate... Good times are about to come

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I've discovered it happens during when I'm watching movies from my sd card as well. The screen goes blank, and you see the "busy" swirling circle thing that means its "busy" and then the movie comes back. It's not as irritating as the pausing during a game because the movie just continues where it left off.
Can't wait for a touchwiz free version..
Custom Roms would come a lot quicker if we had a section on here for Tab 2 7.0's Any mods out there wanna help with that?
i do have the same problem when dealing with draw something...it lags for a while at first, but it just runs smoothly after...just bear to wair for 5-10 seconds in front
i found lot of apps which has a compability issue
i guess the chipset dual core ti omap was a new chip
so it get lot of lagging freezzing and also tilt compability with the old apps games

[Q] LG G2 Lightning fast after KitKat update - noticeably slower after a couple of da

I used the LG PC Utility to detect and install the Kit Kat update for my T-Mobile G2 (D801) a couple of days ago. At first, it was a night and day difference in the performance.
I tested religiously by opening app after app, multi-tasking, using the LG QSlide Apps, etc... I really put it through its paces to make sure I wasn't imagining it.
It basically felt as responsive, fluid and smooth as any device I've ever owned and truly left NOTHING to be desired. Every animation felt like it was a rock solid 60fps, and there was no jittering in scrolling long lists.
I felt like Anrdroid finally finished what 'project butter' had started.
Now, the cold water...
About two days later, no newly installed apps, no major changes, it's back to how it was before the update! I mean, this G2 is no slouch, it's plenty fast, smooth and fluid, but the performance I experienced was a whole other level. For the life of me, I can't figure out what's made the difference.
My only thought that it could be something to do with the ART runtime. I know it's available in Kit Kat, and even for the G2 (Korean version anyway), but I've never had the ability to turn it on/off. I was able to get the developer options, by tapping on 'Build' seven times, but no option for switching runtime.
Has anybody else noticed similar behavior? Have any ideas? Now that I've gotten a taste of what's possible with this device, it's really hard to go back to less.
This unfortunately is the g2x forum, its not the same phone. What you notice though is freshly flashed phone snappiness! Its addictive though beware it will take over your life!

[Q] Lollipop feels unpolished

When I bought my Nexus 5 6 months ago, everything went buttery smooth. Google apps , third party apps, everything. Changing things to ART brought even a better improvement in performance. But after the Google apps recieved material design face-lifts , every thing ran ... sluggish and quite laggy. Moving between app sections was stuttering , scrolling aswell , and every "material design " animation lagged. I truly hope that this will change with the 5.0 update. But my God, I think things started to run worse, especially when I have low battery. No performance improvment , no nothing.
Am I the only one facing this problem? I don't find it normal for the Nexus 5 to act like that. It's just a year old, and when the Nexus 4 got android 4.4.4, it ran like a champ! What happen with the " you can run android now on 512 mb ram ", or the promised "60 FPS animations" ?
I've been running stock today and dev preview for a few weeks. Can't say I've noticed any lag.
Have you tried scrolling in the Google Calendar 5.0 ( schedule mode )

It's not Lollipop. Everything is smooth for me. Even schedule mode in calendar.
Not sure what you are seeing. But its like butter for me. Best update ever. I doubt I'll hardly mod it. At all.

Odd, my n5 is very smooth with lollipop
This is really curious , because my experience is really bad with it, and I don't know if the problem is hardware based ..

If it makes you feel any better, I too notice the lag in Caldender. Just scroll quickly. It has slight chop in the animations. Besides that, and a few other small things it's fairly smooth.

It's not unusable or something like that, but it bothers me , because the animations are not so heavy..and it should run kinda lagless like kitkat.
I really hope google will update the apps and make them smoother.
Lag in calendar, when you scorl up or down. Huge lag, when i play youtube music in backround (Bad App, or Lolipop? I think bad app). Lag is and will be there, if you want to see it. :silly:
Lag everywhere. I flashed 4.4 kitkat and it works perfectly fine. not the same with lollipop wich lags in every bit of the system when it's used more than 10 minutes. really disappointed

Then something went wrong with your install. Otherwise, everyone would be experiencing this.
it's just super weird. it has moments when it works like a champ, but if my battery is lower than 10% and I'm plugged, everything goes ludicrous.
EDIT :
I tried every method, factory images install and manual install, all multiple times.
It's one of google's most unpolished updates. No dedicated gallery app, no face unlock, no new sounds, sluggish google apps etc. I am a big google fan , but I find my self disappointed.
I'm waiting for app updates and wishing for the best.

Does the status bar and nav bar change colors? I don't know if the battery saver mode activates at 10% automatically since I never let my phone get that low. But if it does, it disable all animations and does become less fluid.

You are not alone.
Animations and scrolling are in fact slower in Android 5.0 than in 4.4.4 by a large margin. You must be blind not to notice it.

no, I know that when battery reaches 10% or 15% it slows down the processing power and eliminates animations.

yes, it usually goes "wild" when I have low battery and it's charging, and that means animation lag, 1-2 seconds for the keyboard to open etc. in rest..well it's acceptable, it's not , from my experience , as smooth as kitkat, but it's usable and ok.
Haven't had any lagging issues, in fact this runs smoother then kitkat did, quite happy with the upgrade to be honest. There is always going to be bugs to be worked out, wouldnt be surprised if we see 5.x.x within the next 2 months.
there are 2 camps. the one who say it work ok and the opposite.
I don't think I have flashed it wrong.
It reminds me of the moto 360 problem. Same as now, some said it's choppy, some said that it's fluid and they had no problem
Anyone who says Android 5.0 not laggy is lying, sorry.
Animations must be instant from a perspective of allowing further instant interaction. Let me explain: when something is being animated the resulting screen must allow interaction as soon as you initiate the change in user interface. Right now in Android 5.0, animations are done such a way, you cannot do anything until animation has completed its transformation - and that's called a lag, a perceived delay in user interaction.
Hopefully Google engineers visit these forums and this problem is going to be fixed in future Android 5 releases.

[Q] Is the S6 overheating with games normal?

I have had my Verizon S6 for a little over two weeks now. In general I like it, but I've noticed it seems to overheat easily. A repeatable scenario is while playing Olaf's Adventures (Don't judge me!) for about 10 minutes I'll get the "Cooling Down" warning. I won't have anything else running in the background. I tends to happen the fastest when I'm playing that and doing multiple things in the game at the same time (have Olaf run around & interact with his world at the same time).
To those of you who have a S6 could you download this free game and see if your phones overheat as well? I'm wondering if it's just my phone, or if all the S6s are that way.
Thanks!
I personally never had the overheat issue while playing graphic intensive games, such as WoT and Modern Combat 5. I think it's the issue with the app, not the phone itself.
Yes it gets really hot after playing for 7-8 minutes . But didn't show any warning . I think it's just an app issue.
I'll check out Modern Combat 5 and WoT and see what happens there. I also noticed it happened with Google Cardboard.
I downloaded and tried Modern Combat 5 and watched the temps with CPUz. It didn't seem to get above 61c, so either it isn't as demanding, or like you said Olaf's Adventures is poorly written. It worries me that Google Cardboard also caused overheating though. Does anyone else have heating issues with Google Cardboard? Again it could be the apps fault. I believe it was some VR theater that caused the overheating.

Problem with gaming ? (NFS No Limits for me)

I dont know if it happen with another game because this is the only game i play.
The game works perfectly on my old Note 5 (lollipop) but very laggy on my new S7 . It work good for about 5 beginning minnutes then fps drop very bad . The device only waming a bit so i guess its not about the temperature. Anybody have this problem and know any solution ?
yes NFS no limits lags on My S7 (exynos) and other S7 (exynos) users aswell, many games are not Android M or S7 optimized yet
i'm not sure about SD variant though
Cheers~
hmm i nearly finish this game , maybe i should finish it on note 5 before upgrade
There's a thread here about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/3d-games-performance-issues-t3338882 which I think might apply to you too.
Basically the game service and gamepad service that Samsung installed on the new S7 impact the performance by quite a bit.
no, GameService and GamepadService have nothing to do with it's performance (outside the screen dimming). there's something else at play here. No Limits doesn't even run at the correct resolution and settings (it runs with the lowest settings possible + doesn't properly detect multitouch) compared to older devices with Lollipop. it's probably a combination of events: Google / Samsung introduced something that effects all gaming performance with 6.x devices (and many users confirmed that) AND possible lack of optimization for SD820.
Well i can confirm this as im playing nfs no limits on the snap dragon and exynos variants right now. The SD is MUCH more smoother and i did not know what lag is till i picked up the exynos. Basically both work fine up till the screensapace is filled with rain, reflection and more moving texture effects, i.e when speeding through a more urban landscape as opposed to inside tunnels or that industrial backroads type parts that come up. The snapdragon really shines here making gameplay smooth where as the exynos just drops. Used package disabler extensively on both phones and they're on the same network with airplane mode on (for cellular, turned wifi on after turning airplane on)
Can someone help me plz
The game was working fine but now when i click on game icon the monkey logo comes and then nothing
I return to app drawer
Plz help
