I don't know if I am the fool here but has the hard press area on the screen on note 9 been removed from note 10+ ?
I aware I have tried hard pressing all over those screen to no avail.
Also another issue is the fingerprint scanner. It's working fine for me regardless to other people's reports but I have to press the damn power button to turn the display on now.
With note 9 I just placed my finger on the back of the phone and it always unlocked flawlessly and now no hard press and I can't just place my finger on the screen to turn the screen on.
Is there no way to make a hard press region in the screen even if third party software?
Has anyone found a AOD theme for note 10+ with a fingerprint mark on the display so I can always see where to exactly place my finger without having to press power button ?

As far as I know hard press time button is gone I also have the note 9 and I'm on the upgrade program and I've upgraded to the note 10 plus
I havemt recieved the jiffy bag yet of samsung to return the note 9 but if I'm honest I'm thinking of returning the note 10 I cannot stand the fingerprint scanner and the camera punch for me just spoils the whole experience of a great display
And there is also all the health sensors, headphone jack, iris scanner
I have set the always on display to tap to display. So I can either tap the display then use my fingerprint, or I actually can just use the fingerprint directly (if I am at the approximate correct position).
My only issue is that my fingerprints are messed up from dryness and working on rough stuff. So, it takes a bit of time for the fingerprint reading to register (and I have to press pretty hard).

Yea I am thinking of sending it back as well. I'll give it a few more days to fool around with before I make my decision.
I have mine setup to wake up when I pick it up, and enable face recognition along fingerprints since the on screen reader sucks.
The face recognizition is almost instant. No idea how secure it is, but works well

1) Hard press - meaning that when on home screen, tap and hold on an icon to get context menu? - If yes, then it is still there
2) I don't have to turn the screen on to be able to unlock the phone. You just need to be precise where you place your finger while the screen is dark

No hard press as in it works as a home button which was a great feature for a phone without a physical home button.

Is there a program so that when your screen is locked, you can assign one button only to wake your screen and have access to the unlock slider? Now, if any of the 4 hard buttons are pressed, it brings up the unlock screen. The problem is, when the phone is in my pocket, any one of the 4 buttons, if accidentally pressed, wakes up the screen. Then of course, I hear my phone in my pocket clicking because the heat from my leg is "tapping" the screen. I just want to have the right hard button wake the phone up.
I cant find an option in the settings for this, nor any threads that discuss it.
Thanks.
I really admire you if you're able to slide the slider with the phone in your pocket.
LOL. No, I dont slide it. Just that when in my pocket, when any one of the 4 hard buttons are pressed(accidentally), i have to press the power button to lock the screen again. A pain in the butt. I what the phone to have only one hard button, not 4, that will shut off the screen when the phone is locked.
I'd like it too.
Maybe even some old school unlocking shortcut that uses hardware key combination (e.g. Home + Vol Down), rather than slide.
The Diamond, or was it the HD, had a button on the top to wake the phone up. That was nice because it was hard to accidentally press that button when it was in your pocket.
I use pocketshield for automatically unlocking my phone when the light sensor senses light coming in. An added benefit for this is that when the phone is in my pocket and I accidentally press any button, the screen will automatically shut itself off again after 10 seconds since there is no incoming light. This tool has really made my life so much easier as it gets rid of the stupid slider thing as well; you can use the lightsensor, the motion sensor and an old school sliding mechanism to unlock your phone- brilliant stuff!
Iarapilot might have meant something else indeed. Most of WM6.1-WM6.5 have a tab in the Start->Settings->Buttons screen that allows you to choose which kind of wake-up you need: waking up by pressing the Pw-ON button or waking up pressing whatever button you want. Sudden power-on is very boring, even thought you can't make your device work as you need to slide the screen. But this is a power comsuption anyway and I wonder why previous version had this chance regardless the home screen features. I do want it!!
I think it's a matter of regkeys, somebody of us who's used to "playing" with regkeys should figure out how this feature could be resumed.
Hope you help us!!
Maybe I didnt make my point very well. I just would like to have only the R hardware key, when pressed, wake up the screen so as to be able to slide to unlock. Not 4 buttons, that when any of those are pressed, wake up the screen.
I also have the problem, I only want to have only one key to wake up not other key
Please help us
Since it's free, I add myself to the request queue Having the screen wake up only on powerbutton press could be useful to reduce to 25% the probabilityof screen turning on by accident when buttons are pressed inside the pocket. Battery saver for sure.
Same here. I've been looking for this since I first got the phone! My old kaiser could do this, surely it wouldn't be too hard to implement on the HD2?
edit: nevermind, posted in the wrong thread
I don't think any software can control that as key presses send electrical signals direct to the chip/power unit, where the "power on" circuits reside. What software can do is turn it off again if not unlocked within a specific amount of time, so battery is saved. Screen touches shouldn't be an issue either if using a lock screen.

and doesnt create any problem in normal use? u ask because if u are in call and let some other app start while talk (maybe with earphones) its quietly impossible use portrait mode because left hand always cover light sensor and screen shut down.. its the same with that app?
Did someone already found a solution? I would like such a option too. wake up only by centerbutton for instance....
I've kept the E8's so called Motion Launch Gestures feature turned on.
The screen doesn't wake up 3 out of 10 times of tapping on it.
Is this a bug or am I missing something?
The way I do is, pick the phone up in portrait position and then tap on the screen.
This may be a very minor one, but it irritates when you assume that the phone would wake up on the tap and it doesn't, where you'll have to end up using the power button for the same.
Please let me know your experience or if you've got a few tips to get around it!

It did happen to me a few times in the beginning, but not anymore. The catch here is that the gyroscope phone has to detect a movement for the double tap to work. So, if it's lifted from a table or so with very minute change in the axis, the motion sensors won't work. Otherwise it would work just fine.
My usage of the dot view made it easier, because double tapping with the case open and folded back always produced a movement/vibration. Now even without the dot view, most of the times, I'm able to get it right. It's just about getting used to it I guess. Just lift your device from any table or so, and slightly tilt it towards yourself. That is enough to trigger the motion launch gestures.
Thanks! I'll give that a try!
hey guys, i noticed today that sometimes when i press the home button to wake the phone it doesnt react...when i press it again it works normally....this happened to me two times....did anyone see this?
That sounds like a hardware issue. The home button synthesize sensor must not be recognizing the pressure you are applying to the button. Did this happen after a software update?
I'm having the same issue with the home button being super spotty and straight not registering when I push the home button. This is super irritating. I constantly have to press the button and sit like an idiot while it does nothing, then press again.

I have a Verizon version running 5.0.2
i tried now to see if this is happening when i am pressing the sides of the home button...and yes...it looks like sometimes i press the sides thats why it doesnt work....but the thing is my home button is a bit loose...so its easy to hit the sides...
I had the S4 and the Note 3. Never had a problem. If I press the button and it clicks it should work.

Hmm that could be a number of things. It could be the hardware. It could be the update that you've installed that is causing wake lock on the device. Since your phone is covered by the one year limited warranty, I think you should contact Samsung and request an exchange/replacement. You can, however, try a factory reset to see if the wake lock problem goes away.
Ok I've been able to replicate the problem 100% if I choose. It is most definitely a hardware problem. If the home button is pressed on the left corner of the button it fully depresses and even clicks. But it doesn't register as so.
Definitely a hardware issue.
My phone had this issue as well where it wouldnt register soft clicks or off center taps and I would regularly get missed presses when using the phone (unless I pressed the button hard). I had verizon send me a replacement. The new phone just showed up, and the home button works almost perfectly. I can still get it to not register if I try really hard to push extremely lightly, on the very edge of the button with my finger nail, but its easily 100x better than the previous one.
The new button is also almost silent while the old one made kind of a cheap plastic click sound like it rattled slightly. It also feels like it requires a tad less force to press than the old button. The old button I could easily recreate the issue 100% of the time by just pressing lightly or pressing off center and it would regularly bother me while using the phone.
Buttons don't work
Front buttons stops working, then i reset phone they work some time and again stoped everything else work fine.
I have warratny but from shop they sadi that buttons working i don't now what to do pls for help.

Here is a "solution" that has worked for me. My S6 is the Verizon variant, but I think these steps will work on any Service Provider.
Settings > Accessibility > Dexterity and interaction > Assistant menu
From here, toggle the switch to "ON". This will create a hovering circle with a window with four panes inside it. If you interactive with the hovering circle it will open a new window in which you have access to the back and recent apps buttons via an onscreen button.
Not sure what has disabled the hardware buttons, but this should give you access via onscreen software.
I know it's not a true fix, but a work around.
If someone finds a true fix, please post it! But in the meantime ...
I hope this helps!
Hello,
I had a S6 and after 4 days I noticed loose home button: it made noise the tap on it (not press). And also didn't registered clicks on the left side.
I exchange it for another and this one is almost perfect. I notice the left side of the butto to be a bit pressed. Anyway, I suspect a harware issue.
Lollipop 5.1.1

My home button stopped working all together right after an update. How can I remove this issue? Every thing else works perfectly. Please help!
I have issues with my home button as well, it's "loose" and rattling. It has always been a bit loose but the last few months it has gotten worse and worse, it started to require more and more pressure to register the press (way beyond the pressure needed for it to *click*). As of now it does not even work at all, no matter how hard I try pressing it.
I've tried the assistant menu that's mentioned here in the thread but I just find the menu annoying. Instead I have learned to live with it for the time being, I just multitask to instagram or facebook and then spam the back button until I'm back at home.
100% hardware issue.
Apparently it's possible to replace the home button, and there are replacement home button to buy from ebay, but the replacement procedure is ridiculuos. The home button is basically the last thing you will demount from the phone when disassembling it.
I found a temporary fix by dabbing the home button with Isopropyl, this made it like new again. But two days later it's back to as it was before, or maybe even worse.
Annoying as hell, especially since this is a result of poor quality control from Samsung.
Update: Found a nice little app on play store called "button remapper" which lets me rebind the default system buttons without requiring root, i have rebinded the "recent apps" button to act as a home button instead, and a long press opens the regular "recent apps". Seems to be an alright workaround.
Just go to samsung shop, let them see,if no exchange or replace or fix, take their demo phones like s8 (2017) throw on to the floor and then take any phone u want, leave the s6 phone alone (make sure it is factory reseted).Ran away and shout #ALLAHUAKBAR!
EDIT: it's possible, here's my tutorial on remapping the Bixby button! https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...-the-galaxy-s8-s8-to-launch-google-assistant/
Earlier today, Marques Brownlee (MKBHD), posted the following tweet:
First one that makes an app to remap the Bixby button on the Galaxy S8 to Google Assistsnt wins my $$$
Challenge accepted. I bet that it's not only possible, but pretty easy to do.
...the only problem is, I don't have a Galaxy S8. If any one of you (somehow) have a Galaxy S8 already, or if you get one early and want to figure this out, message me at [email protected] and we'll hash this out.

We won't see anything until someone with an actual S8 is willing to test. I won't be able to get my hands on one for weeks until it officially launches, and even then, I'm not sure if I will pick one up immediately.

I'd love to see this happen as well as being able to remap it to quick launch the Camera. Wearing out the Power Button isn't my cup of tea as to how I remember my Power Button failed on me when I had the S3.
Plus, I tried the demo models at Best Buy and it couldn't seem to work in launching the Camera when I double pressed the power button to launch. So...idk.

We're still talking about the S8 and S8+, right? I have the S7 Edge and the whole greatness is being able to quickly launch the camera with the Home button it has.
The S8 is something I'm uncertain about. Can't turn the screen off because it goes right into screensaver mode due to being in Retail Store mode. When the screen is on though, I double pressed the Power Button to try and access Camera right away and it doesn't do a thing. It may work with the Home key on the navigation bar when the screen is on (which I haven't tried yet anyhow), but I want to see how you say it would work if the screen is off. Or better yet like I posted originally, remap the Bixby button on the side to Quick Launch the Camera just like the dedicated Shutter Buttons on the Xperias.

We are talking about the 8. I'm sure it'll do it with the screen off. The screen button on the 8 is like the iPhone 7 button.
As far as I know you double push the power button now not the home button to quick access the camera, like on the Pixel.

Correct. I saw this demonstrated in a hands-on YouTube video on March 29th. Which video, I don't recall. I watched like 20 of them that day.
I just tried out the S8+ in a Verizon store that had a working model. The double push of the power button to launch the camera worked fine. It is a setting that can be turned off (like the home double push on the s7 edge). Personally, I'd rather have the Bixby button remapped to be a physical home button. If so, then a long press can launch the Google Assistant. I don't need Bixby and really liked having the physical home button. I hated the virtual button ever since the Galaxy Nexus.
Since the home button area is pressure sensitive, you can also double press that area while the screen is off so it's pretty much the same as previous galaxy phones. I tried it today at the T-Mobile store and it basically worked just like my S7 edge.
This will be a thing for sure. My only doubt is if it will work also for non-root users.
Hmm, just wondering if the Bixby Voice input works with nonrooted S7 edge. I installed it and it crashes... Is it disabled by Samsung?
Really hoping that somebody can make this happen for non-rooted users. Might be possible via a Tasker plugin too? But that wouldn't be as native or fluent IMO. I pre-ordered the S8 on T-Mo and am willing to test out attempts

Tagging for updates. This will be so useful without root, as this always ruins an access to bank apps.
Someone posted this on Reddit.
Just installed it on my S6 to check.
UPDATE:
I managed to map volume key button on Galaxy S6 Edge to do Home action. This app may be very helpful when I put my hands on S8 as far as Samsung will not turn this option off, to try to force people to use Bixby at any cost
I don't know, maybe it's me, but i always feel like there is a moment of frustration when i have to turn the device on.
On my mate 9 I literally picked up the device and easily touched the fingerprint sensor which is placed away from anywhere else and obvious to find. Bang, it's on. On this device OMG it's so freaking frustrating, whether I have e a case or not. I'm always fiddling around trying to find it.
If i want to use face or Iris, it's two steps. First I have elto find the power button and then switch it on, then stuff this thing in front of my face. Also annoying, never that quick and obtrusive if you are with other people, . If I'm in the car at a red light, and there's any movement it often takes a few seconds. Really annoying.
If I'm in a meeting and I want to quickly check something i have to find the power button and them use a pin or pattern. Again, front fingerprint sensor is better for that.
The always on would be better served if it could double tap to wake, then when on a table at least i could check for messages without ping up the phone.
All in all I'm finding it frustrating. Or is it just me.
I agree completely. I'm forever forgetting that picking up the device doesn't just turn it on and that I have to press the button. Does anyone know of an easier way to wake the device so all I have to do is tap the fingerprint sensor?

One thing I did find is that if you set up the fingerprint scanner, that touching the fingerprint scanner immediately unlocks and turns on the device.
Iris scanner not a problem for me at all, I set the virtual home button force press to activate it straight away, power button or home button doubletap lets me see my notifications without activating the iris scanner. I always hold my phone in the angle that the iris scanner works in, so it usually takes less than one second to go from screen off to home screen, with the iris scanner and force-touch combo. But everyone has different ways of using their devices, so a non-issue for me might be a big issue for someone else
I turned off the always on display. Less frustrating!
Is there a way to make power go on when you pick k up the device?
When AOD is on you can just double tap the home button to wake the device. Just an fyi

For the first few hours I was regretting upgrading. Now I could never go back. It just takes getting used to.

The issue for me with the read scanner is the stupid placement. i constantly have to tap it twice because to hit it the first time i have to kinda slide my finger across the back to find it, then lift off and press down again to activate it. It would be a lot better if i didnt need to lift and press again, then if it didnt read it when i slide my finger over it into position (because it has tried to read it before my finger was properly over the scanner), then it would read it 5ms later when it was actually in the correct place. instead it fails to read it and i need to lift my finger off it before it will try again.
The second issue for me is even bigger, if phone is sitting on the desk, there is no quick easy way to unlock it. i cant get to the fingerprint scanner, and to use the iris scanner i would have to stand up and move my head over the top of the desk. so the only option without picking the thing up is to activate it with a hard home button press and then type in the pin. if the fingerprint scanner was on the front, then it would be perfect, just put my finger on it and its done.
The only thing keeping me sane at the moment is that I just came from an S5 where the only way to unlock it was home key, THEN swipe away the stupid false second lock screen, THEN entering pin/pattern. Even hitting the fingerprint scanner wrongly a couple of times is still so much faster than unlocking my s5 was but this could have been so much better if it was on the front (or one the back in a sensible place like slightly below the camera and in the middle.
Sounds like you guys need to change some settings.
MY phone is fast and easy. Pick it up and put my finger on the fingerprint sensor and im at the home screen.
Press power button and the iris picks up right away and im at the home screen.
To start off make sure you setup your iris scanner good. Make sure your in well lite lighting and the front camera is clean and clear.
Second in your settings under Lock Screen > Iris Sensor > Iris Unlock ON , Iris unlock when screen turns on ON,
Then for finger print the same thing. Fingerprint Scanner > Fingerprint unlock ON
I find it easier just use the fingerprint sensor or the virtual home button. When the phone's off, you can just put your whole fingertip on the sensor and it automatically unlocks (if it verifies you print properly). Also the virtual home button works when the screen's off. you can hold the home button when the screen's off, then choose your unlock method. Other than that it's a pain to press the power button, then use the fingerprint sensor or pattern unlock.
I bounce between fingerprint and facial recognition. It's taking some getting used to but it isn't that bad.
You can also set it to just use force touch to unlock the phone

Quick tip, In display settings -> navigation bar -> enable home press to unlock.
Found that by doing this its so much quicker accessing the iris scanner or going straight to pin/pattern screen.
In case you didn't know, you can press the home button when the screen is off [yes, you can totally press it when the screen if off!]
Phone is super fast for me. Scanner could be in a better postion but it works fine. Also try out smart lock. It let you trust certain places and not have to use anything to unlock.
I haven't had issues turning on the phone, but if you have the AOD on, it is a lil annoying since you have to press the home button on the screen with some pressure before you go to the lock screen, especially if you use anything else, besides the fingerprint sensor as it will unlock while being on the AOD, to unlock you phone.
I will say that setting up the fingerprint scanner is slightly annoying since if your finger isn't on there just right, it'll give you an error. After it's setup, I've found that it works pretty well. And, if you use a case on your phone, thicker cases might be a slight problem. I noticed that while locating the sensor is easier with a case, thicker case, like the Spigen Slim Armor, will be harder because of the added lip.
