Gcam Mod for Realme 5 ! - Realme 5 Questions & Answers

Realme 5 will be the best budget smartphone with quad camera setup and a enormous 5000 mAh battery :good:.Combined with the awesome algorithms of Google camera I think the camera can perform really well and can take some dope photos. Any idea where can I get it ? Has any of the developers made one for the device or can I use the mod developed for any other device?

Yes you may try various mods for other devices the one I have tried and it's working is linked belowhttps://drive.google.com/file/d/1-6xIN-UwRMftSVBZnYG9EONJ70B-JH0n/view?usp=drivesdk

GCam eat much battery?

Mi4C vs SGS4 camera only

Hi,
How would you compare camera in Mi4c vs Galaxy s4 ? Is there any one who moved from s4 to Mi4c ? I have browsed all pages with pictures and comparison tools however cannot find real user experience. I am currently using sgs4 and camera is enough for me, however with new phone I would like to get a bit more Will I get it with Mi4C ?
Thanks
If I were in your place, I'd wait for mi5. S4 ain't a bad device
The only thing i liked about the S4 was the screen. The camera takes blurry shots 4/5 times and it lagged to no end. The Mi4c is worlds above it.
I had i9505 2 months ago I sold It and bought mi4c I think mi4c has a better camera as compared to s4 and if we talk about features of camera mi4c has awesome manual mode which s4 lacks
I agree with ermacwins. You should wait a little for mi5
hey, as far as camera is concerned the mi4c is miles ahead of the s4 (and it should be, actually, it's a flagship two years ahead !) i wasn't a sg4 owner but i have used it a lot and i'm also a previous xperia z owner (both share the same imx135 sensor) and i can safely suggest the mi4c as a camera update over the sg4. however if you are very interested in night photography mi4/mi note will suit you better (and of course mi5).
mi4c's imx258 is way ahead of s4, IMO the worst thing about mi4c's camera is the MIUI camera app itself - you've got plenty of options, but in worse light conditions it ruins 9 of 10 taken photos - a much simpler google camera takes much better pictures as it uses better exposure parameters and doesn't try to wipe out the higher ISO noise along with all the detail left
and yes, wait for the mi5 to appear - the mi4c price will drop making it even better buy
Hi, I come from a family of S4 owners but used a LG G2 instead.
The Mi4C takes much better pictures than the S4 (main reason being its fast PDAF focus). The processing is mature, it capures much more light in the same conditions as well and shutter lag is much less. Like the other people here, I advise you to wait for the Mi 5 release, but here are some pictures I took with my Mi 4c:

I remember reading your comments on the xda portal camera related on cm roms. If you havent tried cm13, try it now because it has a new snapdragon camera and it rivals the miui stock camera.

actually the miui app has proper manual controls and the g. camera has not. but yes, in auto mode your night shots come out both blurry and full of noise. (who makes the software? the camera picks 1/12 s.s. and 3000 iso ! tons of noise and shake too ! )

I'm on Team Superluminal's CM13. I'll definitely look into it. The stock camera of CM13 is horrible, it doesn't even support PDAF. At the moment I have to restore a MiUI build when I know I'm going to spend the day taking pictures, and revert back to CM13 afterwards. Thank you for letting me know, camera quality is the one thing that bugs me on AOSP.

Are you on the latest build because it was added with the ROM. I'm on a older build and had to flash the camera. There was some flickering but apparently fixed.

Do you think you can get an official google camera app on this phone since its android one?

I guess nokia will customize the camera app with features like boothie and some other hardware specific stuff just like Xiaomi did with the Mi A1. Google camera port will be the best alternative to the stock camera app
No, it will have the Nokia one : https://goo.gl/8GPq3r
The Nokia Pro Camera mode has been around since the company's Windows Phone days and is primed to make a comeback.

Is it any good? i will be getting rid of my pixel 2 xl since every damn update there is something new that breaks , so i was wondering if at least we can get the HDR processing from the google camera on Nokia

The Pixel 2 XL has the best camera after S9 and you'll not get that HDR processing in the Nokia 7 Plus, you can use the ported GCam mod for better quality but the Pixel 2 XL's visual core chip does the real magic. I don't know much about the Nokia Pro Camera app but I'm 101% sure that it won't be able to match the quality against GCam

Umm I thought it was all pretty much the app? The visual core was just activated no? It would reduce the time to process the image

The visual core is responsible for the better images. The software algorithms are necessary for processing but hardware is also necessary. So the visual core and HRD+ algorithms together make the pixel 2 xl "the best camera phone"

Note 9**** I was talking about.
If you are ok with the processor on Huawei devices then the mate 10 pro or any other huawei flagship will be the best choice

Bro it's just used for processing. No other thing. Visual core is just responsible for faster processing and efficiency. Ok. Because hdr+ takes much cpu usage resulting in low battery life. So visual core is a chip made by Google to use minimal battery and faster image processing.

Image Processing.........thats the real magic behind Pixel 2's so impressive camera output and the visual core does that only
Some misinformation here, the visual core is only used for other apps like Snapchat and Instagram, on the pixel 2 the camera app doesn't use the visual core at all. The visual core was completely disabled when it was released.
That's why photos in third party apps often suck, because they're not using the image processing your phone manufacturer developed.
Perhaps they're moving forward to using it for everything in the next pixel.
I think the processor is more important - the pixel 2 has an 835 but this has a 660. Other phones that have ports use the same processor, maybe someone knows if that matters?
What would probably make a bigger difference is the lack of OIS on the Nokia 7 Plus. It's unfortunate since the Nokia 8 Scirocco has the same camera system but includes OIS.

It is a shame. I'm waiting for a good camera review of this phone. If it's good I can't see why people would pay twice the price for the 8.

It really is a shame for a high tier mid range came out with no OIS in the camera dept.

Request for a proper gcam port for u12+

I got this phone last week and I am very surprised to find that there is no working gcam port for our beloved u12+, the versions that work have so many bugs with 30 sec delays and hit and miss photos/green hazes etc. I always go back to stock camera app which is good but way less than a proper gcam would perform.
For one, it is the FLAGSHIP phone of HTC and has excellent camera hardware with the ultrapixel tech and dual back and front cameras. Please devs, anyone here can you please make a working gcam port for u12+, will appreciate it a lot. I mean there are 100's of ports for even cheap devices with cheap hardware. Then why not for u12+??? even there is no single custom rom page on xda
Thanks!
I'm waiting for a port of the new GCam 7.0. We might then be allowed to use the telephoto camera with it, I hope.

NBA: Realme 5 Pro or Redmi Note 8 Pro

Hi all,
I am thinking of buying a new Smartphone. In my country Realme 5 Pro 8GB/128GB and Redmi Note 8 Pro 6GB/128GB are similarly priced. I am really really confused between these two.
Which one should I pick?
You expert opinions are required.
Thanks in advance.
No-one yet?
I am more inclined towards Realme 5 Pro basically due to SD712, Sony Camera Sensor and 8GB Ram Variant.
Currently I am using Realme 3. I don't like Color OS and Camera App. But I have heard that Realme will be providing its own UI with stock like experience. Is it true? And is there any changes in Stock Camera App expected?
Well that's a tough decision. I just bought RM5P 8/128 GB. Have used Xiaomi for about 4+ years and was happy with performance and software. Xiaomi provides lot of power packed software feature and highly customizable UI. But having used for more than 4 years, I was bored with MIUI, so I thought of switching to something relatable.
After I got my hands on RM5P, I was disappointed with the software and less customizable UI, but man, I have no words for the performance and camera. I am glad I made a good decision switching to this as this one has power packed hardware features which no brand has given in this price range. Hopefully, the software will be improved progressively.
My advice: If you have never used Xiaomi, go for Redmi Note 8 pro. Else go for RM5P. You will be happy with both.
Currently using Realme 5 pro(6GB Variant). To be honest, Redmi Note 8 pro looks more premium with its glass back. Realme 5 pro does look somewhat premium but nowhere close to Redmi Note 8 pro. The Redmi has a faster CPU and GPU but I heard some issues with overheating( and I don't have faith in Mediatek). In the realme, I have not encountered any overheatiing isues till now. But playing PUBG for longer periods makes the phone a little bit warm which is completely normal. If you want a phone for heavy gaming go with POCO F1, this phone is way better in terms of performance but looks kinda outdated( I regret not buying it). If you want a premium feeling device go for Redmi Note 8 Pro & if you want a overall better device go for Realme 5 pro.
Thanks, and what about Camera performance?

Realme 5 pro has very capable cameras but the 48MP images doesn't look that sharp. Normal 12MP is better( I think).

I just bought Realme 5 Pro 4/128 variant after (and still) owning Realme 3 Pro 6/128. I have considered Redmi Note 8 Pro before buying, but at the end I chose Realme. Here is why:
- Photography is the most important factor for me, thus I was looking for a phone with Qualcomm SOC because it will have Gcam mod for it. But then I saw on youtube lately that gcam mod also has been made available for RN8 Pro with mediatek chipset, but unfortunately the stock camera is still better than the Gcam on that phone. In case you don't know, the right Gcam variant with the right settings on Realme 3/5 Pro is amazing. I have compared it with my friend's Galaxy S9 and S10 and it put them both to shame when you examine the detail side by side at 1:1 zoom. Gcam on realme even manage to equal or beat my mirrorless M4/3 panasonic gx85!
- I read that RN8 Pro has touchscreen issues that still has not been fixed till now.
For me, ColorOS is ok. It has very aggressive RAM / battery management that often closing running apps eventhough there is still plenty of available RAM. So I just turned off the power saving feature (called 'Smart Power Saver') and use 'custom power saver' that allows you to set background running permission individually for each of your apps that you know shouldn't be close automatically like gps sport tracking app in my case. In app management setting screen you can also specify that certain apps are allowed to do auto start. You can also locked the app in the recent app screen so that it won't be closed. Unfortunately that setting is not persistent and only work until the next restart.
I'd never prefer an mtk powered device over an SD one. Just look at rm8p xda development forum and here. Words are quite unnecessary.

Well, as you wish but rooting and custom stuff can noticeably lengthen your device's life span and raise performance, lower battery consumption. Idk why would anyone willingly not want these but it's up to you. Even if you don't count these a SD powered device is mostly better choice for base lifespan of chipset is longer and features to add later are most of time more available for SD devices rather than mtk.

I have also come to know that Xiaomi Has released Source Code or something like that which will be very helpful for development. Actually I read it on XDA review. They also wrote that they have shipped few RN8 Pro to devs for active development. Although Development Section of RN8 Pro seems very inactive as compared to Realme 5 Pro section.
Most Probably anyone buying phone is this range will be buying a new phone after one year so Longer Life Span of phone is just not required if it can live for one year with its performance intact (Which I have doubt about due to mediatek).
Most of the people will never use Rooting and stuff on their phones even if the stuff is available for their phones (I Guess). But it is always nice to have support for your device. It is a plus but not a negative in my view.

Absolutely agree. Although even with released source code and free gift devices to developers indeed xda seems way more inactive if we compare redmi note 8 pro and realme 5 pro. I'm absolutely glad I bought this device instead of rm8p especially as you said custom stuff support and help. Probably mtk devices aren't the favorite of developers either so rm5p getting faster development with delayed source code reveal and even without gift devices to devs.

Yes there is in Indonesia.
This version MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V2e.apk
In addition to the instruction there to set the saturation, I activate HDR+ enhanched mode which gives much better result in settings > general - advanced > HDR+ control = on and then set to hdr+ enhanced in the camera main screen.

Best smartphone photo capacity after Gcam mod ? (medium budget)

Hi,
I would like to know if there is a smartphone with the same capabilities in terms of photography as the pixel 5a after installing the Gcam application but for a budget of about 350€ ?
I find the pixel 4a very good in terms of photography but it is far too limited in terms of hardware for my use (battery too weak and screen too small).
I would like to know if you have ever installed Gcam on a phone in this price range with a very good photo result afterwards?
Thank you for your advice. ;o)
GCam is developed and copyrighted by Google, it's only available ( working ) on Google devices. One have to find a 3rd-party clone of GCam what will work on other devices.
