Best smartphone photo capacity after Gcam mod ? (medium budget) - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I would like to know if there is a smartphone with the same capabilities in terms of photography as the pixel 5a after installing the Gcam application but for a budget of about 350€ ?
I find the pixel 4a very good in terms of photography but it is far too limited in terms of hardware for my use (battery too weak and screen too small).
I would like to know if you have ever installed Gcam on a phone in this price range with a very good photo result afterwards?
Thank you for your advice. ;o)

GCam is developed and copyrighted by Google, it's only available ( working ) on Google devices. One have to find a 3rd-party clone of GCam what will work on other devices.

pixel 3 camera out there already.

We know that pixel 3 camera out there for pixel, pixel 2/XL and Nexus 6p. But we still don't have a perfectly working gcam mod for S9 plus exynos version.
Now days developers only focused on mid-range devices ?
Of course there are more developers playing with 200 bucks devices such xiaomi than the ones that cost 600(s9+). Plus xiaomis and onepluses are much more popular than our over hyped S9+ that has mediocre camera to start with anyway...other than that there is like 1 developer doing s9+ exynos version that's even worse because snapdragon has Sony camera hardware whereas exynos has Samsung's own... Lastly, front camera has locked up firmware with no access to third party apps too and rear camera on the other hand has some issues too with stabilization and flash, so u use stock s9 camera for those ****ty washed up selfies on Samsung (pixel 3 and xs are laughing at portraits and selfies of s9), you also use it for videos and only gcam for rear camera pics that have higher contrast...

It's unbelievable the amount of immaturity displayed above.
I suggest those involved who want to keep their accounts active, read the Forum Rules again and start following them.
This drama belongs on Facebook or other social media, not in a development forum.
Once again, too many children on the playground ruin it for those following the rules.

Help me understand this camera

As it stands today, the Pixel Camera is considered by most to be the Gold Standard. Most of the magic happens after the picture is taken via software. Why can't One Plus figure this magic out to some degree? The sensors are more than capable. The stock camera doesn't take bad pictures, but certainly inconsistent. My Pixel 2 XL blows the stock camera on the One Plus 7 Pro out of the water. The Gcam mods help and I appreciate the work by those devs, but this should be handled by One Plus. Is the software magic that hard to replicate by One Plus?

Yes it's a bit difficult. Here's why...

I always thought it looked amazing, especially on the phone's display.
I guess if you're more into cameras you notice these things.
Also looks great to me...

All depends on your expectations. I think the pics from the stock camera looks pretty great, especially in good light. The original poster is comparing the photo quality to the Pixel 2 XL, so I can't make that comparison personally. For me, on one hand, if I really want the best image quality, I'll use my "real camera". On the other hand, I'm usually pretty impressed when I do use my 7 Pro for snapshots.
To address the original poster's question, the big difference is that Google has nearly endless cash and resources to throw at what they think is important. And it's pretty clear they look at the camera on the Pixel line as a discriminator; and versus the likes of Samsung and Apple (if not in sales numbers, than by device price and "flagship" device status). Where OnePlus is a pretty small company, content with existing in a more "value" priced space (even if the price keep incrementally bumping up with each iteration). OnePlus phones doesn't quite max out the specs in every category (we all know that), but they give us a great device for a great price.
A big notch, chin, and bezel usually comes with the pixel camera
Google and other OEMs have extensive resources in their software department. Google has AI and resources to focus on photography. It's amazing me that Oneplus cameras can rival many flagships.

My thoughts exactly. Not only does Google have the cash to burn, but also massive amounts of data to draw upon for their AI machine learning. Plus, development of image AI probably has tons of applications for other Google projects, besides just the camera app or the Pixel phones. So it probably makes perfect sense in the bigger picture for Google to be spending resources on the camera app and related technologies.
None of this really applies to OnePlus. They are just a relatively small company making some nice phones.
This whole subject on phones and cameras makes me laugh all the time. I'm an enthusiast photog and do a lot of photography. I have some serious equipment just to give some background. These phones are point and shoot cameras. They do extremely well in all situations really. They generally take a photo at comparable quality as a DSLR from 10 years ago. if I need serious photos, I'll look out my gear. These phones are more than enough for 90% of anyone taking photos. I can use my OnePlus 7 pro in manual mode and get photos good enough to be used professionally. In auto I can get better than most DSLR cameras from 10 years ago.
Every phone camera has flaws, including pixel, Samsung, Huawei and apple. That's why in these photo camera comparisons the op7 is best in a certain situation, Samsung is better here and apple is better there. This is why people like myself still spend $3-4k on camera like a Nikon D850. I use my phone camera probably 85% of the time, they are still that good

Gcam Mod for Realme 5 !

Realme 5 will be the best budget smartphone with quad camera setup and a enormous 5000 mAh battery :good:.Combined with the awesome algorithms of Google camera I think the camera can perform really well and can take some dope photos. Any idea where can I get it ? Has any of the developers made one for the device or can I use the mod developed for any other device?
Yes you may try various mods for other devices the one I have tried and it's working is linked belowhttps://drive.google.com/file/d/1-6xIN-UwRMftSVBZnYG9EONJ70B-JH0n/view?usp=drivesdk
GCam eat much battery?
yes

OP7 vs p30 - IQ of main camera only

Hi there,
I was wondering if anybody had the chance to directly compare p30 and OP7, as most of the available info are for the 'pro' models only.
According to the reviews p30 should be clearly superior in the camera compartment overall, but I am not very interested in videos, selfies, zoom, portrait, wide angle, fancy night modes etc.
Rather, I would like to find out about basic image quality and reliability of the main camera only (autofocus, details, color accuracy, dynamic range…).
Putting together some hints taken from various sources it seems that OP7 could be not so poorer in this specific contest. Or no? Thanks
From my perspective I think the camera is doing ok. I'm not big into photos I use it for the basic stuff.
one thing to keep in mind with camera on phones, the camera app itself can make dramatic differences. the oneplus 7 has a sony sensor 48mp, and the p30 is a 40mp sensor. That being said, the p30 is a triple camera, and the oneplus 7 is only dual. This would boil down to what your needs in a camera are, as the oneplus doesn't have the telephoto and ultrawide capability.
I would look for example photos with both phones, using their default camera, and also using the google pixel camera app, which is known to produce much better results.

Can any GCAM developers please create a working version for Note 20 series?

I would be willing to pay money to support.
I know the N20U already has one of the best camera hardware out there but software-wise there are a lot of areas I do not like (saturation, color temperature etc...), as well as the lack of a dedicated astrophotography mode. I know all of these can be achieved in pro mode but I would prefer a simple GCAM that acts as a jack of all trades, as well as a master of easy astrophotography.
