Htc U11, still to buy in 2019? - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Hello guys,
I currently own a HTC 10, and i have it since 3 years. I plan to get a new phone, and i can't decide which one. I was thinking of U12+, but i read online that there are many issues with it.
Do you recommend HTC U11 on 2019? What are your experiences? Is it still fast after new updates? Does it sound as good as they claim?
Any answer is appreciated!!

U11 is still a great drvice. Oreo on it is very Fast and smooth, the battery is good for an average user(1,5 half day). Camera is good and with the gcam even better(night sight is awesome).
You cant go wrong with this device even now but as it seems you keep your device long enough I would suggest to wait a little bit and see if htc releases another flagship sometime. I dont know how much of a difference you will see from the 10 to 11 cause I never had the 10.
If you dont want to spend lots of money the u11 can be had cheap from ebay brand New. If you can spend a little more just go for the u12+ or wait. You can go over to the u12+ thread and ask opinions.

Thabnks for your reply mate.
It is time that HTC has a new flagship.

I have ordered a new HTC U12+ for 380 euros.

I'm still driving a U11, it is a fantastic phone. Its beautiful, my blue glass back dazzles people. The unlocked version was just updated to Pie.
I'd say go for it.

[Q] Should I get the Desire S coming from HTC wildfire??

Hi,
What is everyone's opinion on the Desire S, i've got a HTC wildfire that is coming to the end of its contract, and the desire S looks like a phone i can afford, any good/bad things i should know about it? Bit worried about the battery life...
Cheers
Its brilliant. Maybe slightly outdated now if you're talking about a 2 year contract but I'm sure you'll burn your wildfire after using this. There is a lot of support from devs which is just amazing. I find the screen size the perfect size to use with one hand like I'm doing now. Battery life is pretty good for a smartphone. Not sure how it compares to wildfire, probably about the same.
Also believe me when I say that the desire s has the best community out of any phone on xda.

I'd wait it out if I was OP, considering the next line up of handsets are only three months away.

During the launch to october period I'd agree with you, since then its slowly gone downhill.
But if you want a real experience the Nexus forums are all "BAAAAAAAAWWWWWW", "I EEENSTAWLED A RAWM NOW STUFF NO WORK, WUT DO?", "WAAAAAH NO GORRILLIAARR GLASS ME WANTT REFUND". Basically most posts are over spilt milk, which the OP has literally forcefully spilt.
No, i HIGHLY recommend you against buying a Desire S. Don't get me wrong, this is a great device. But, it was released almost a year ago.
In the next 2 months, CES and MWC are coming up. Desire S was released at MWC last year, and i'm sure something great will come up this year too. Just wait till the end of feb and you'll get something much better for the same price.
yeah probably worth the wait, I want an upgrade
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Yes, Desire S is an upgrade compared to wildfire but wait for few months and you should get a better device.....but New phones will always come up....for now wait for the new launch compare it with others...I would say quad cores will make it and the dual cores should be cheaper and getting a dual core device would make more sense now...

I hate the way phones get outdated quick I love my DS but I'm sure I'll hate it after the next 20 months of my contract

The desire s is a great phone. I previously had a wildfire. The desire s is much better in almost every regard. But I agree with the other posts wait till CES and mwc see what's avaliable. That's what I did last year Ans went for the desire s. Its such a good phone. For me anyways
Sent from my Desire S
I'll probably upgrade next year around may time. After mwc. By the way battery life is great but 3g always drains battery
Sent from my Desire S
Some cons with the desire s. Cameras not very good. Gpu is getting somewhat out of date the new 3d games lag just a little and the wi fi reduction if you cover the top and the paint comes off a little if you have a black model. But these are minor worries. Overall smashing with a lot of developer support

Big step up from the Wildfire
You won't regret it.
But as everyone else says, its old, and the successor will be likely announed at MWC.
My contracts up in August too, so id probably be upgrading in then.

yeah its actually time to buy a dual core smartphone!!!single core phones r about to get old!
That's why I hate contracts.

I'm not too mad at my contract . Mines only 1 year, and up in August. Only a couple of months.
And I'm very satisfied with my Desire S. I think I will still be happy with it in a few months time. Then in August, I can upgrade.
Whereas last time on my Toshiba TG01 I was ripping my hair out in frustration that i couldn't upgrade!

Hmm very jealous. as of august I still have 12 months hopefully by then I'll have a fully working ics rom and can shut myself of from the world of xda for 12 months.

Hehe... I'm hoping for a stable ICS release too to drive me through from now till July!
I'm gonna be real busy soon with exams
The best thing about my phone is I got it dead cheap too
I got it for a 12 month contract for £25 a month... and the phone just cost me £14.99
Also I got £50 quidco cashback, and under my dad I got 40% of total price NHS discount
For that I get a decent amount,
300 minutes, 1000 texts and 1GB data...
All that and the phone cost around £210 in total after all the discounts
I'm chuffed with the deal and best thing, its only 12 months!!

Good deal!
I'm on £21 a month with O2, til next August :\
Ah well, I love this phone, the form factor is perfect (I really don't like big phones) and stable ICS is getting closer every day. It's probably best to wait now, but really, I couldn't recommend it higher.
I been with vodafone so long i got it for 10 quid a month with 200 mins 500 texts and 40 quid for the phone but for 24 months

I always check mobile phones on GSM Arena's Phone Finder
You can see and filter all hard facts about actual models, rumoured and upcoming phones.
Get a Sensation XL

get the HTC One S or wait?

My HTC Desire HD is dying.. i didn't treat it very well and battery as well as performance/gps aren't what they used to be.
I like the One S because of its size, performance, look and ofcourse the long battery life. I really need something that I only charge during nights (or could even wake me up without one night of charging). As the One S is already quite "old" I wonder if it would be smarter to wait for smth that is comming up soon?
OS: Android
Location: Europe
Size: ~4.3".. the S3 is too big in my opinion
I am also curiou about NFC.. doesn't seem to be implemented into the HTC One S.. so maybe smth newer would be recommend?
Thanks
The thing about tech you see, is that there already will be something amazing coming soon, however I would recommend waiting just a couple of days longer . google is supposedly going to give us 5 new nexus devices so I would wait and see. Other wise just watch some one s reviews and see if you like it. Hope I helped.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
yeah, you should probably wait. a lot of new handsets coming before 2013
You should probably wait, you never know when a new model is coming out or a price drop that could save you some dough.
Alright thanks... Maybe around christmas will be the best time to buy a new phone.. could imagine that a lot of vendors want to release their "newest" phones before christmas.

Replacement for my HTC Desire?

Hi,
I am wondering if it is worth replacing my HTC Desire that I actually love and has loads of support and ROMs available. I'm currently running on the MildWild Oxygen ROM and it's great!
I have a budget of around 200euros which could get me a second hand HTC Sensation, potentially a Samsung Galaxy Nexus? Or for a wild card the HTC HD2 which I seem so see a lot of good things written about.
My question is,it worth it or better hold out another year, have a little more money and make a significant step up? And to what? Nexus 4 if I can get my hands on one...
Sorry, lots of questions there, but I would appreciate people's opinions on this.
Cheers

first off post your question here, its for anyone who is looking for new devices
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846277
And imo, if you budget, is this small and you enjoy your current phone, I recommend not to get a new phone because whatever new phone you gonna get would not be that much better than your current one.
click thanks if helped
Well it really depends on your usage and needs. If your happy with how your hardware is performing than you could definitely save yourself some dollars staying around these devices you've mentioned. I know what you mean I was quite happy with my Desire HD (rooted running 4.1.1) however it cant quite keep up with todays mobile games and apps so when I broke the screen a couple weeks ago I decided it wasnt worth me fixing ( cost would be about $50) and took up my carriers offer to upgrade and got a Note II. But like I said, it truly depends on your usage and needs. Hope this helped your decision..

No update

HTC have confirmed that the one s will receive no further updates. Rip the one s. Personally I think its shocking that a one year old phone is left out in the cold. And I certainly won't be buying a HFC phone again.

Htc are ****ing stupid!!! The galaxy s2 is still getting updates!! I predict they will go bankrupt within the next year. If they do no one will miss them they need to get their **** together.
Given the lack of support since day 1 I am not really surprised. Failing MAO coating, helicoptering, battery drain.... And now only 6 months of software support. And still they wonder why customers are leaving?

Source? A few weeks ago they said something different.
Anyway. After the helicoptering disaster I already knew that my next smartphone would not be made by HTC.
There is a feature story on Engadget "We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences." This was a press statement released by HTC.

I doesn't stop to function.
I just got this phone a little over a week ago and it's already killed off like it didn't exist. I was really rooting for HTC but this is just downright f***ed up. Here, I thought HTC learned a lesson and was actually going to change their ways but i guess not
Sad to see them going this way but that's why I stopped buying HTC phones if Samsung can update the galaxy s2 but HTC can't update their phone it doesn't instill a lot of trust in them for future phones

I agree. I mean when a two year old Samsung Galaxy S II has a newer version of a one year old HTC One S, it really shows you how much they care about their customers and also, they clearly said earlier in the year that they would update the One S, One X, X+, and Butterfly to 4.2.

They always say that they will upgrade existing phones but they ether wait to long to do it or they then say they can't. I loved my HTC phones and that's all I use to buy but, after my sensation I had to jump ship. build quality and lack of up grades made me go to Samsung even though I hate the plastic phones they make
Well we all saw this coming, my next phone won't be a HTC for sure, even tho I've been a HTC fanboy since the nexus one.

Why didn't you take a Sony then?
I will think twice when I buy my next phone.. dammit, HTC what are you doing!

My nexus one was the reason I loved HTC's build quality: that phone is still alive after being run over by a car!
It sure is crappy to hear HTC lie about bringing updates, but it still is only one source, while the news of sense 5 coming to the HOS was reiterated quite a few times...
I just hope it's a lie 'cause it's real bad marketing for HTC!!
We started with 4.0 and are now left with 4.1, will the HTC One ever get 4.3?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
1 year support yeah! die htc die!
I can imagine this is happening because the HTC One Mini is being released soon and will be replacing the One S as a mid range phone.
I've had a few HTC phones and been quite happy with them, but this is unacceptable, I will not be supporting HTC anymore. I feel bad I recommended the HTC One to so many people, going to have to tell anyone else who asks to go for the GS4 or Nexus 4 I guess.
I only use custom roms so this isn't really as big of a deal for me as I will probably always be able to get something decent ported, but the principal of them doing this really posses me off. If I didn't want to root my phone I would be kissed off at the lack of support.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Same thoughts here guys. The One S was superior or equal to the One X and isn't supported anymore after one year. And its updates where delayed from the beginning...
The only reason to introduce plain Android for the One is to cut its sense lifecycle short to at least one year. They think that any fanboy out there will reinvestigate into the latest HTC phone every year and then sell it for the latest model and if you want to keep it longer, you could switch to it's Google play edition. No need to update sense anymore. Let's go for the next model. Imho this thinking made some leading people leave HTC the last months.
As I never was a real lover of sense I started using it with this phone and I have to admit, at least I even started liking it. It turned out to be pretty practical in one way or another.
So I'll keep it for a few more months, just to see what Moto or Sony will come up with in the near future. Samsung never was and is an alternative due to it's el cheapo design. Also that S4 outdoor variant looks pretty good in my eyes.
R.I.P. my beloved One S and f**k you HTC.

[Q] worth it?

Hey people,
I got a HTC one x+ here and I am tired of HTC support so I'm moving to another phone...
I would have bought galaxy s5 but Imo the phone looks bad and if I compare specs, oneplus one beats it like a boss...
So I want to buy a new phone somewhere in august, should I wait for a better phone or buy the 64GB OnePlus One?
Share me your experience with this phone please, thanks

Seems that it is very quite here, look as though no one is interested in it.
I saw reviews saying that there is issue with the microphones when making calls, but no where else to get answer.
If you can get ahold of one, yeah, it'll be worth it. Hopefully by August they'll be readily available. Of course, by fall it might be "obsolete", surpassed by phones with Snapdragon 805s or 610s or whatever with QHD screens, but even then, at the price they're selling for, it's still an amazing deal.
The majority of the people reading these forums have never used a One so they can't really give you an honest opinion.
