i am a tmobile usa user and have an upgrade available and was wondering your opinions should i go ahead and get the sensation or wait until the hercules or ruby drop in october ? just curious about the most bang for my buck!!
I know its all a matter of opinion but was hoping on someones insights on which of these phones or others will have the most help on here as far as roms, ports, etc... on here
I'd say you wait it out. It's only a month away which isn't so bad. Plus the HTC Amaze 4g is supposedly coming out in October as well. Then you'll be able to compare those three phones. Amaze, SGSII and S4G. But really, you can't go wrong with the Sensation. We have great devs working on roms each day and a lot to choose from. Just my two cents

yea i was kinda leaning towards that idea but was just starting to get impatient lol
thanks!
wait htc Sensation Special Edition (Dr.Dre Edition)
There isn't a wrong decision here. Just do what feels best for you. I'm impatient so
I got the sensation and I love it rooted. Perfeft phone but then again its my first
Smart phone.
you cant go wrong with any phone nowadays. i mean, if you think about it, youll be waiting till october for the hercules or the amaze and just after you have had the phone for a week or two, rumors have just come out for another phone that is way better. technology is just moving really fast this century and whatever you choose to be your next phone will be a great decision. i should also let you know that buying a phone off release isnt the best idea either. there could be problems with the phone that will be found and the price will eventually get lowered after a while
The sensation has a lot of dinks at this stage, but its not a bad phone, in my opinion.
Wait and get a clear picture so you'll have no regrets when you spend your hard earned cash.
Definitely wait. The next batch of phones are due October / November, with more to follow end of this year / beginning of next year.
I'd go on a tirade about how much this phone has been an endless head ache, and my old Nexus One tends to accomplish my tasks faster than this bloated phone, but no one would read my 3 page diatribe, so i'll leave it alone... wait for the next thing. If you're insistent on HTC and the Sense crapware, the next iteration will be out soon with a better processor, more ram, and possibly NFC. Personal opinion is to wait for the next Nexus device and keep it Vanilla... the phone just seems to work better if you're starting with true carrier free vanilla.
People saying wait because there's a next batch of phones around Tue corner: there is ALWAYS a next batch around the corner. If you are choosing a like that, I feel sad for you. HTC has great quality in production, and the sensation is an excellent choice. Other phones are excellent too. Do you like the look and feel? Do you like what htc offers with their phones (sense and all its hi customization for one thing?) Then buy it!

Have to agree with that. I was thinking of waiting a little longer to see what comes out later in the year, but in the end I thought sod it, I like the look and feel of the Sensation so Im just gunna get that. Theres always gunna be another newer, better phone just round the corner anyway.
Get the Sensation for a cool device now. You can always trade up later if u c something better u like.
My only problem with the sensation is horrible front facing camera, my old nexus s ffc is waaaay better.
Battery life for me has been great, 20-30 hours per charge after update (and wiping battery stats right after).

While this is entirely true, I feel that it is not quite appropriate to pull that logic out in this specific case.
My reason is that IMO the Sensation is not nearly as future-proof as other phones. Even when the specs were released way back all those months ago, a lot of people including myself were not exactly blown away. 1 GB internal storage? Only 768 MB RAM? VGA front camera? The specs list included other things that weren't spectacular. When the phone was released it wasn't particularly special because of the fact that it isn't all that future-proof. When you look at the SGS2, you're looking at a device that, despite the fact that it will technically be several months old when it reaches U.S. shores, will still be an impressive device in terms of its specs sheet (I'm not saying anything about personal preference matters like the UI or anything, just the hard specs). I know the version that reaches U.S. shores will have some improvements made to it like a larger screen size, but even if the exact international version of the SGS2 was the one to be sold here, it would still be very impressive in terms of specs. It's got that future-proof aspect to it.
The Sensation is a nice device that I like, but IMO it isn't nice enough for me to say "people are always gonna say to wait for the next batch of phones; just get the Sensation".
There are always better phones in the near future.
If you are going to wait, wait til October for the Nexus *some name* Ice Cream Sandwich phone. But then... you may want to wait yet a little bit longer for the second wave ICS phones. But then... the Galaxy S3 may be just around the corner....
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA OK so I'm going to admit that I'm an HTC fan( if there is any better phone companies out there I apologize). I am eligible for an early upgrade (Verizon) and I am always looking for the next best thing if I can afford it. Right now the rezound is the best HTC phone I can find in the US for average consumers... But here it is spring and I know they come out with better phones around under this time and summer/ fall.... Yeah I know if I keep waiting I'll never get anything but right now I'd hate to upgrade to what's currently on the market when quad cores with dedicated GPUs (= potentially better gaming like xbox 360 quality) are just around the corner... I haven't found anything on the web about Verizon comming out with such a phone, that I know of anyway... At&t has the HTC one x coming out that sounds pretty bad ass but nothing for version yet that I've seen anyway... I know they're always trying to one up each other surely verizon has something in the works, let me know what u guys think., I'm a newbe but learning.
I'd personally wait it out and wouldn't get anything right now...see what Verizon brings to the table when the one x comes out and jump on that. Unless you hate your current phone and want a new phone bad.
Hello guys, i'm in love with the One S, but i've been watching the forums lately, and the One S is receiving way less attention then the One X.
We have at least 3 big and great custom Roms for the One X, and i can't see any for the One S yet.
Do you guys think the One S android development is going to reach the One X sometime?
I want to know this, before i buy the phone, or else i'm getting a One X
One x doesn't have a bootable cyanogenmod..mainly sense roms. The desire HD took a while to kick in on dev side also..its preference
The only development missing is really cyanogenmod daily type and tool sets Modding battery etc.you won't be missing out on much.plus our battery's last longer and doesn't have the flex issue the first x stock has lol
It is slow bit but come onn...crap phones have active development...it will happen.

One X counts as "Flagship" so more ppl buying it - more development. But I think after first few 2-3 month ppl will understand that S is as good as X, also I guess it wont be problem to take same roms from X and make them avaible for S.
Definetly not something what should affect your decision about what phone to buy. Choose which u like more, the development of roms will be good for both.
Maybe One S will get more attention after it gets released on Tmobile.

I'm so happy that I opted for the S instead of the X. In my (humble) opinion, most people have been drawn to the Quad core of the X - but it seems the S is just as, if not more, powerful!
I think as people realise that the S is up there in the power ratings then development will pick up. I hope so, I miss having my Insertcoin\ARHD etc ROMs to choose from =D

Its not the Quad-core that stands out on X, its the 720p IPS SLCD2 display. Its the best on the market today. I havent seen One S in person, but usually SAMOLED displays suck big time, perhaps HTC done some calibration on this one to make it better.
I love the Amoled screen, I thought it was ace on the SGS.... I think its even better on the One S....
if someone doesnt like it, They tend to slate it, and that puts other people off... instead of just sayin 'personally its not for me, i prefer the xxxxxx screen' they rant and rave 'oh its **** dont waste your money'
and it gives it a bad reputation

i also can't wait for s-off. the htc dev method isn't a choice for me.
I'm disappointed in the developers which decide blind for the one x. Sure it is the Flagship, but with years old manufacturing technique. nobody can say that a comparable 40nm manufactured cpu saves more energy that a 28nm manufactured one. faster sure, but a pockedheater^^
only one good dev for a rom and one for the kernel is enought for us. I love to flash costum roms, best two times a week^^ i miss it.

Just curious, why is HTC Dev not a choice for you?
Just found out that the galaxy s3 for the US will have the same CPU as
The one x. It will also come with 2gb of ram, which is a real plus. What would you guys do in this situation. I'm still kind of worried about that pentile screen, have to see it in person but I dont have much time left.
The 3 main criteria for me are screen quality, camera quality and feel of the device. I really dislike the screens on Samsung devices. All things considered, I'd be miserable looking at that display as a trade for questionable improvements in speed. A larger SD card, while a great option, isn't something I really need.
Build quality is also a big deal. I like the feel of the one x more than any other Android device I've handled. The S2 variants left me feeling like I had a bargain phone in hand.
I've heard great things about the camera on the S3, but while I'm still having some trouble in generating the type of shots I'd like with the HOX it's an excellent outdoor shooter.
THE END

I'd hate to say it, but I'm kind of in the same boat. I was dead set on this phone once Samsung made their announcement (was a toss up between the GNex, the GSIII or the HOX). I figured the awesome dev folks around here would get the phone unlocked so we could eventually run some stock form of ICS (which was a successful bet!). But the issues the phone has (WiFi BS, the lagging in the games, the frustrations with multitasking-esque stuff) are annoying. I was really hoping AT&T would be pushing out their fix soon to address at least the WiFi, but I was hoping for too much I guess. After this phone, I don't think I'll every be buying another subsidized phone again. I'd rather just roll with the Nexus line so I can freely do what I want with the phone.

A lot of the issues with the one x have been fixed with the latest ruu, and some nice tweaks have been made with the few rims we have now. Just wait until we get the kernel source and watch our battery and performance skyrocket. Imo, stick with one x and wait for the goodies to come.

I have a question...are these goodies you are talking about only going to come to those who are rooted? Is there expected to be an official release that fixes some of the issues I am having? My Wifi radio stinks and the cell radio is less than optimum. However, because I love the screen so much, I'm sticking with my HOX for right now.
I got mine at Wal-Mart for $158, and they told me I had 15 days. I wonder if that is just the window to return it and void the contract extension, or if I'm out of my window entirely? Although there is a lot I love about my HOX, That 2GB of RAM really has me squirming, together with the lockdownedness of the HTC.

The leaked 1.85 RUU has an updated radio, which may help your WiFi and cell reception issues. Its impossible to say for sure, but I'd be willing to bet its only a matter of time before this version (or something even newer) is made available as an official OTA.
After owning the Atrix, which had double the RAM and CPU of the original Galaxy S... I'd rather have a better screen.. Sure the One X has software issues like multitask, but we have root and the unlocked bootloader.. CM9 and other great roms will follow (I hope)... I think I'll be sticking w/ the One X. But if u really need the SD card slot then I guess your choice is already made.
Read the papers from Walmart at&t requires a 30 day window Verizon, and others are 15 from Walmart.

I'm keeping mine but I'm known to play craigs list like a day trader. I'm willing to bet there will be people who want to trade their SGS III for the HOX. I'll consider doing this if development on the HOX stagnates. I don't think it will though after all we don't have Source Code yet.
This phone os perfect for me. It fits my hand, it's light but not too light and the battery life is amazing.
Just returned it....now it's just a waiting game. Kinda miss the phone already especially going back to the iphone 4's tiny little screen .The specs on the new iphone should be coming out soon too.
I'm returning mines, the GS3 was just announced. Pre orders start June 6. The one x is a great phone but I prefer the GS3. Bigger screen, removable battery plus a sd card slot.

The Pentile display killed the SGS3 for me. Don't say "you can't see it" because once you see it, you can't unsee it. It's especially noticeable if you're like me and have been using iPhone 4 and now One X for 2+ years.

agreed on the display. with some of the wifi problems i've been having the last couple of weeks, frankly, i want to return it, but i just can't stand the idea of getting an SGS3 with that damn pentile screen and the overall pukey, pseudo-nature 'inspired' (read: playing the marketable environmental/sustainable/green card) theme. i've go ttill tomorrow to convince myself that the risk of my wifi never working properly isn't enough to make me return this thing...
Return the phone, then drive to different ATT store and get a new one for 30 more days

Source? A few weeks ago they said something different.
Anyway. After the helicoptering disaster I already knew that my next smartphone would not be made by HTC.
There is a feature story on Engadget "We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences." I agree. I mean when a two year old Samsung Galaxy S II has a newer version of a one year old HTC One S, it really shows you how much they care about their customers and also, they clearly said earlier in the year that they would update the One S, One X, X+, and Butterfly to 4.2.

It sure is crappy to hear HTC lie about bringing updates, but it still is only one source, while the news of sense 5 coming to the HOS was reiterated quite a few times...
I just hope it's a lie 'cause it's real bad marketing for HTC!!
We started with 4.0 and are now left with 4.1, will the HTC One ever get 4.3?

1 year support yeah! die htc die!
I can imagine this is happening because the HTC One Mini is being released soon and will be replacing the One S as a mid range phone.
I've had a few HTC phones and been quite happy with them, but this is unacceptable, I will not be supporting HTC anymore. I feel bad I recommended the HTC One to so many people, going to have to tell anyone else who asks to go for the GS4 or Nexus 4 I guess.
I only use custom roms so this isn't really as big of a deal for me as I will probably always be able to get something decent ported, but the principal of them doing this really posses me off. If I didn't want to root my phone I would be kissed off at the lack of support.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Same thoughts here guys. The One S was superior or equal to the One X and isn't supported anymore after one year. And its updates where delayed from the beginning...
The only reason to introduce plain Android for the One is to cut its sense lifecycle short to at least one year. They think that any fanboy out there will reinvestigate into the latest HTC phone every year and then sell it for the latest model and if you want to keep it longer, you could switch to it's Google play edition. No need to update sense anymore. Let's go for the next model. Imho this thinking made some leading people leave HTC the last months.
As I never was a real lover of sense I started using it with this phone and I have to admit, at least I even started liking it. It turned out to be pretty practical in one way or another.
So I'll keep it for a few more months, just to see what Moto or Sony will come up with in the near future. Samsung never was and is an alternative due to it's el cheapo design. Also that S4 outdoor variant looks pretty good in my eyes.
R.I.P. my beloved One S and f**k you HTC.
