The front camera resolution is 20 mp and the photos it takes are quite nice. But it apparantly supports pixel binning for low light conditions, but I have never seen it work. Gcam produces way better quality selfies that are 5 mp. So I guess it uses pixel binning or it's just their processing.
Whatever be the case, I want to if anyone has seen pixel binning actually work by the stock camera app.

Hi, late reply but worth mentioning. I have been doing my homework looking into why my 20MP front camera takes 5MP like shots. Well this is because there is pixel binning.
The stock camera app does take 20MP shots but the quality is very comparable to 5MP due to pixel binning. All other camera apps have so far produced real 5MP photos. In the end I prefer to keep the other apps and not waste my time with stock camera as it only gives a higher resolution, along with a heavier file, only to get a 5MP quality picture.
I am looking into finding a possible way to get a proper 20MP photo without pixel binning that may produce better quality photos.
I have moto one 5G(UW) , it's have 48 MP camera but due to Pixel binning it comes out with 12MP picture, i want to disable Pixel binning, is there any App that help me out.
That'll be appreciated if you help me out

Well it's all known that the back camera of Nokia 8.1 is using Sony 363 sensor but what about the other like depth sensing and front camera there is no mention of the sensor vendors and their tech specs like sensor size ,as per the below link it is also found that Samsung sensors are being used in back cameras too with same specs but in which models it is not sure
https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/74cc4ccf
So request if XDA or someone can get into the technical specs of all the sensors with their respective vendors and sensors sizes and share the information
Thanks
I want to know too... It's 20MP, but the photo result is so bad...
Kinda missing my old Oppo N3, which I can tap to focus for front and back with the rotating camera.
What I think about the front camera is of 5MP which manipulates as 20MP. As if you use Gcam port for Nokia 8.1 it shows front camera as 5MP.

Gcam takes 5Mpix photos with any 5+ Mpix camera. Photos taken with stock camera app are 20 Mpix, and once again, number of megapixels does not represent the quality of photo, just the size.

But my old Oppo N3 has 16MP for both front and back cameras in gcam (kinda old version though).

Well I am pretty much not interested in gcam junk ports,it's not officially meant to be used on other devices other pixel so it has no whatsoever value in my view on any device ,people can shout as much as they want, second the sensor does the binning from original Nokia cam app it does not and should not have any access to the algorithms used by Nokia.this topic is related to the sensor manafacturers as there is lot of misinformation or information floating around as always of Nokia cameras and requested the XDA team to get into the crux of it ,anyway I am sure the front camera module uses 1/3.1 Samsung sensor and the depth one too on the rear the main 12mp is imx363 as confirmed by Nokia care on the email

It's not the GCam limitations but the sensor and camera app of Nokia 8.1. You can install a hardware info app from play store and it will tell the Nokia 8.1 front cam as 5MP. And in true sense it is a 5MP sensor which uses pixel bining to produce 20MP images. But the picture quality is not up to the mark even after pixel bining.
I installed hw info app,it shows 20.1mp sensor.

Nope, going from 5mp to 20mp would be a upscaling using something like bilinear interpolation.
Pixel binning is combining pixels to produce a lower resolution but with an increased low light performance, in the case of the Nokia 8.1 it is combining 4 pixels hence the reduction to 5mp from 20.
Gcam is not designed for the anything other than Google products, it doesn't have a clue what is it supposed to be doing on the Nokia 8.1, it just doesn't contain the software necessary to use the front sensor correctly.

Thanks mate for a conclusive reply. I do agree with you that it may be the interpolation in Nokia 8.1 front camera. As I am no longer using Nokia 8.1 so I can't comment on it any further.
Gcam by itself doesn't limit the supported resolutions to tight values. It's the camera stack implementation of most qcom and non-qcom phones that exposes only the binned raw camera streams from quad bayer sensor.

Hi all!
Thanks for clicking on this thread!
my Question is simple and straightforward: if I buy the Mi9 will Gcam use all the 48Mp of the sensor or just 12mp? And if it will only use 12mp will this be because pixel-bining will still work\happen or just because Pixel phones(for which gcam was made) only have 12mp camera and that is the limit? So I will actually LOSE quality compared to Stock cam mi9? Mi8 only had 12mp sensor so I can't just look in that forum for answers. Sony Phones have more MP but they don't support gcam because of the api.
I have only tested Gcam on my MIX 2 and that phone is also only 12mp sensor.
I am pondering at the moment between getting mi9 or s10+.. but price of s10+ is a bit high and from the samples i saw already s10+ doesn't shoot better quality than my s9+ (with zeroprobe's camera mod) since it has the exact same sensors as s9+ only with the ultrawide one added. I have the feeling that mi9 with gcam has the potential to be better than s10 since my mix2 (which has a ****ty single camera) can rival the s9+ with the help of gcam.
Thank you in advance!

It can only read 12mp subsampling pixels (0.8micron). Not 12mp pixelbinning 1.6micron
It's so bad, when you zoom in 2x, it crop to 3mp effective resolution
I don't like this idea
S10+ has poor camera2api, you can't access wide and tele lens, no f2.4 option (f1.5 one is not so clear)
Hey guys, I'm new here, so I'm sorry if this has already been covered.
I have an unrooted international version of the One plus 6, with the pixel camera app side loaded.
I was just tinkering in the camera settings and I noticed that the pixel camera will, by default, only capture images in both 4;3 & 16;9 resolutions, utilizing anywhere from 2.8mp - 12mp on the rear camera.
With that in mind, one could make the assumption that the software isn't utilizing the potential of the hardware. (I'm also curious to know how the second lens is cooperating with it).
Basically, I'm just wondering if there is a way to fully utilize both the 20mp and 16mp sensors within the pixel camera..
Any feedback would be awesome! Also, if I'm being dumb by asking this because I'm not educated in this subject, then please, enlighten me so that I may learn ?
Thank you guys!
I don't think it's possible, for a simple reason : The Pixel 3 only has one sensor, and only 12 MP. So, GCam only uses one sensor, and handles 12 MP
But to be honest, it still produces pictures that are vastly superior to the OOS cam, so, for me at least, not a big deal !
no
Use xtrme's gcam mod! Though the settings say that the limit is 12 MP, my photos thus far have always been saving in 16.3 MP (100% JPEG quality vs 15.9 MP on 95% default) unless you do some zooming (it will be scaled back to 12 MP but still very very usable). AFAIK that variant of GCam was specifically tinkered to work with OP6.

The Xtrme's version is indeed pretty good ! Used it for some time.
I feel like the Advanced 1.4 from Arnova is better though, it even has Focus Tracking, which is the best thing ever
Just checked it, the photos save at 16.3 MP with 100% JPEG quality on 1.4 Advanced too. Note that i'm using the OP6 config that is available for it.
Still don't know if it uses both cameras though. On GCam and OOS Cam, the viewfinder only uses the bottom camera, that seems normal.

First one, in red
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/
You can also get the config file, put it in a folder names "GCAM/Configs" on your storage, and double tap near the shutter in the app to enable it ! (The black part between the shutter and the link to the photos app for example)
These are all great suggestions guys, thank you!
Does the advanced 1.4 and the Xtreme mod allow for shooting in raw formats?
I'm trying to set my phone up to be the best point and shoot it can be, for the sole purpose of stock photography. I know both the pixel camera and the oos camera shoot in raw (oos pro mode is a beast and has outperformed the pixel manual settings consistently but is too cumbersome and doesn't shoot in true 16:9)
I want to ask anyone who knows if it is possible to get from a 48mp sensor, a raw (DNG) file with resolution only 12mp. This phone has a 48mp jpeg option but no raw. All other apps can give raw files but only 12mp.
I made a test. Took 3 images with mi note 2 (23mp), rn7p, and Asus zenphone laser (13mp). I posted a 250% crop of the 3 images and a detail of this crop. The xiaomi"s phones images are from gcam .From the result anyone can see that the details of the rdn7p are equal (if not worse) with the Asus pfone, while the mi note 2 is far more clear. And if you shoot with the 48mp option you won't get a better file in details than the 12 mp photo mode.
So, for me it is hard to accept that there is a 48 mp sensor in rdn7pro unleess someone can explain the questions above.
Every opinion is valuable.
Bro I believe that the Camera is not very much impressive it needs a lot of improvement. Whereas, if you talk about GoogleCamera, it is not a stable build so not to expect more. I was having note 5 pro and compared with the rn7pro picture than i felt no difference, unfortunately the picture was a little bit clear in rn5pro instead of rn7pro. So i think that Xiaomi has to do alot more to improvement in its camera optimisations and you must wait for stable build of gcam which click satisfying images. ?
Anyway, my question has not to do with the quality but with the ability to get a 48mp dng file. All apps give 12 mp dng files
Although Gcam let u choose 48 Mp, the photo is 12 Mp.
Stock camera make real 48 Mp photos (at least on my chinese unit)
Hello Guys!
Can anyone who got hands on new Poco X3 upload raw video and photos (f.e. google drive) from it for us to check quality?
Will be very helpful for everyone.
I can share the files with you when I get the phone. However, it is not even shipped yet even through i was told 3-7 days.
Write to me in a week and I will send it.

Hope this works.
Macro camera(M) is kinda meh
Wide(main) is good. The 64mpx at PRO-mode doesn't make a noticeable difference, need to test it more outdoors
Ultrawide(uw) is better than I expected
Video seems good.
I really like video stabilization, it's on par with gcam, maybe a bit better. There's also a steady-video mode that uses the ultrawide-cam with eis and gives a weird effect
notes:
I hate AI because it cranks up saturation and gives weird results sometimes so I have it turned-off
Average RAW with main camera is 30MB
Noticed the phone getting warmer with slow-mo
