In-built device maintenance or 3rd party apps? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey everyone,
So after using samsung galaxy S series for a long time, i have switched to Oneplus 7 Pro. One thing that took my attention is that in samsung phones, there is device maintenance application that clears cache, ram and so on.
I couldnt find any built in app in Oneplus. Is there any built in app or any other 3rd party app that you recommend for it?

I use SD Maid Pro

I also have SD Maid Pro which works well, and works better with Root!

Which app are safe to remove.

Hi, I am using Samsung s duos 2.
Is it safe to remove following inbuilt apps from my device.
Hangouts
Chat on
Chrome
Google pluse
Google drive
Paly news stand
Paly games
Drop box
Hp print services
Samsung print services
Samsung push services
And a few inbulit ring tones
Please help. Also suggest me which rooting procedure is best, as many of my friends ask me to use vroot. Can I unroot after removing those apps? I just need to get rid of above apps as they eat space on updates too and I dont need those apps.

don't delete any apps that say play( i mean the ones related to google play of course) since some of the "google play services" might stop working and suddenly you no longer have store and you'll need to download gapps again... other than that everything you mentioned is safe to remove, although some of it is great stuff, i don't see why you'd want it gone...
I think you can safely remove the following apps:
Paly news stand
Paly games
Drop box
Hp print services
Samsung print services
Most any (good) root app that'll let you uninstall system apps should also let you freeze them (as well as back them up). Titanium Backup is one of the best and most popular, Rom Toolbox Pro is great too. Before uninstalling anything, freeze it first, and use the phone for a while to see if any problems arise. If not, BACK IT UP before removing it. You can store your back-ups on your SD card, or save them to your computer. This way you can free up the space on your phone, but you can still put it back on your phone if you need to (for an OTA update or warranty service, for example).
Clean Master, besides being a great RAM booster and junk file cleaner, also has an app manager that (with root access) can do backups and uninstalls, but also sorts the apps into what's safe to uninstall and what shouldn't be uninstalled. Use this as a guide, but follow the steps above as well (you'll still need Titanium or Rom Toolbox or similar; pay the $6 or $8 or whatever it costs - it's worth it).

Rom advice for s6

Hi everyone
I am currently using a oneplus one and bought an s6 as it looks like a good phone.
However, my first impression is that the phone has too many native apps; before I start using it properly I will be migrating all my settings, data etc from my previous phone.
Anyone migrated from oneplus one to s6?
what rom would you advise for samsung s6?
Thank you
I used to own the OnePlus, cool phone. I would highly recommend Xtrestolite rom, it's very debloated and there's an aroma package that you can flash and choose which features you wanna install
Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Hi thank you for the reply.
I have checked the rom and looks interesting.
However, there's one issue, it states:
"I would NOT recommend to restore system apps or app data of your apps with Titanium backup, only the apps themselves.
Restoring App data or System apps can cause problems with the apps. (This applies to any ROM!)"
I want to backup app data of my apps that are installed on my current one plus one and restore it on this new phone (viber messages, sms messages, contacts and also settings of some other apps as well), will I be able to do this or it will cause issues as suggested by the author of the rom?
How did you backup restore all the data of your oneplus one to the samsung s6?
Thank you
I have managed to install Xtrestolite, still testing it and it looks faster but I am trying to get all my previous apps work on this new device.
Most of them are working but at the moment I am having problem with Tasker.
In tasker some of my tasks requires accessibility tasker to be turned on, I turn that on and then I am asked to enable the universal switch, if I don't do it, the accessibility for the tasker doesn't get enabled, if I DO enable it, an error is through "settings has stopped working"
Does anyone know how to fix this?
THank you

To the veteran users of Android

What are the first 5 things u install to your new Android device as soon as u receive new one or restore device?
I took almost a 3 year break from Android and now that I am back, most of the Apps I used to use are no longer updated.
I'm used to try lots of custom roms and some of my must install apps are:
Titanium Backup,
Greenify,
Metal (FB app, but less memory hungry),
FireTube (listen YouTube music with screen off),
OneDrive (got more space than Google Drive),
PlayerPro (for me best player),
QuickPic,
Root Explorer,
SuperBeam,
SwiftKey and
Xposed + GravityBox.
If ROM doesn't come with performance function I use System Tuner Pro.
On older systems I was installing SMS Backup & Restore (but no need any more...)
And than I install some "optional" apps (not allways):
Adblock,
MIX (powerfull pict edior but comes only for Samsung I believe),
Some of Runtastic apps,
SD Maid,
TeamViewer,
Weather & Clock Widget and
Xda app.
Good question but this it's the place for this discussion!

There's an app called "Free App of the Day"
you can give that a shot
You should also get Google Opinion Rewards.
You basically do surveys and get like 10-40 cents per survey, sometimes even more, which can be used to buy apps and other things on the play store.

Your favorite/must have tweaks/apps?

I have a carrier Note 20 Ultra (T-Mobile), so I don't think I can like ever root or anything. Wondering what the next best thing is? Any cool APKs? Is unlocked firmware worth flashing or will I lose carrier services?
Thanks for reading!

Without root you can still use substratum to theme your phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/substratum/official-starting-substratum-andromeda-t3798316
You can also use Hex Installer to theme without root.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=project.vivid.hex.bodhi&hl=en_US
An old root app, Adaway can also be used without root now. Just use the latest Beta vesion.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753
CCSWE to disable pesky apps and DevCheck and Hardware info app to review the system info etc.
After some more though there are two more root apps that you can use with several adb commands without root.
GSam Battery Monitor Pro.

PD MDM
Good lock family apps
One Handed Operation +
Double Tap
Digi Clock
Samsung Galay store themes and icon packs
Color Wallpaper
If you load 3rd party launchers you'll find out the native Sammy one is actually quit good... and stable.
Had a 3rd party launcher put my 10+ in a boot loop twice.
Two hard resets later... NO!
Samsung provides a lot of customization apps, add some 3rd Playstore ones and a package blocker to take out the trash. All these use little battery and run great.

AT&T 10+, tried it but get a can't verify Knox message.
Nova Launcher still one of the best around, imo. Have been using it for several years across many devices.

This is my current set up (see, import xml attachment*). I'm using the PD widget to flip Playstore and a few other checked apps on as needed.
Of course you can block many I don't have blocked.
Just don't get stupid about it. Probably best not to block One UI... Goggle and try to learn/understand what you're blocking.
Know that some apks are dependent on others, that by blocking an apk it can cause constant polling that sucks cpu cycles and battery as other apks try to communicate with the missing one.
So just blocking the hell out of everything doesn't necessarily mean better battery life. Bloatware and 3red party aapps are generally exempt from this effect; system apps watch more carefully if blocked.
Note that I block AT&T updates like the plague; don't want it forcing updates and it's constantly running with every permission under the sun.
If something goes wrong and you get the flashing kernel of death you'll need to disable PD as Administrator fast. Know how to get there blindfolded, ha-ha fast mind and fingers count when the screen warning is flashing.
PD runs in Safe Mode so forget that.
The current version is very stable on Pie; no issues.
I've never had to do a hard reset using package blockers but using a rock solid one is important as it can raise hell if it goes rogue.
Weeeee-e-e fun times... too fun.
Use PD MDM to clear data; it leaves no nulls (presumably).
Clearing app data in Settings apparently doesn't always; enough so to leave the data corrupted in some cases. I've seen this happen.
PD can fix apks by clearing data that otherwise wouldn't be possible like with smaller unistallible system apks.
It's a great tool to use for troubleshooting and system repair. It can save you from a reload.
I love this app; my 10+ be a complete mess without it.
It's the first app I load on a reload.
Play with it
Note: if you do a carrier update it's best to disable PD completely. I've done flashes with it enable with no apparent harm but this isn't a good idea. Apps seem to update ok on Playstore even when blocked.
*you can create multiple backups with different configurations and use that history of them to troubleshoot etc. Make sure to save copies to the SD card, email it to yourself or on the PC... saves time.

Question Individual App Lock in Settings?

Hi all,
I'm new to Google phones, I got my Pixel 7 Pro on release day after having a Huawei Mate 20 Pro for the last 4/5 Years. Is there anyway to have individual Apps locked that require you to give your fingerprint to open them without the use of a 3rd Party App from the Play Store?
I used to be able to do this on my Huawei in the settings and lock any apps individually but I can't seem to find that option on my Pixel 7 Pro. I've seen the "Pin Required" option on Whatsapp but even that doesn't work great as you can see everything when the app is opened behind the pin screen.
Thanks for reading.

You'll find, as I have, that a lot of that creature comfort stuff are not in pure android. Unless I'm wrong, you'll need an app to do it for you.
Correct. As @xgerryx said, there are apps in the Play Store to make that feature available, although I don't use them so I don't keep up with what's best, or what works.
Thanks for the replies. I was hoping it could be done within the settings of the phone without the need for another 3rd party app being installed. Shame small things like this aren't available within stock Android on Google phones yet this was available years ago on other Android handsets.
Issue with app lock applications from the Playstore on non-rooted devices, it's easy to bypass for anyone with an iota of Android knowledge. You really need one baked into the OS as they're far more difficult to overcome.
I the same for me !!!! coming from oneplus with smart launcher pro....incredible thing any native app locker one by one in android stock !!!!

Hey!
I was dissapointed, too, after switching from s20 ultra and mi11 ultra about this missing feature.
My workaround:
(0. Microsoft launcher to hide needed apps)
1. Tasker lock screen function (you can define apps that require lock), (I am tasker heavy user) so i don't need any more extra apps
2. Terminal-systemizer magisk module to help tasker not being killed (can be killed anyway, but enough for my needs)
3. Profit.
