To the veteran users of Android - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Themes, Apps, and Mods

What are the first 5 things u install to your new Android device as soon as u receive new one or restore device?
I took almost a 3 year break from Android and now that I am back, most of the Apps I used to use are no longer updated.

I'm used to try lots of custom roms and some of my must install apps are:
Titanium Backup,
Greenify,
Metal (FB app, but less memory hungry),
FireTube (listen YouTube music with screen off),
OneDrive (got more space than Google Drive),
PlayerPro (for me best player),
QuickPic,
Root Explorer,
SuperBeam,
SwiftKey and
Xposed + GravityBox.
If ROM doesn't come with performance function I use System Tuner Pro.
On older systems I was installing SMS Backup & Restore (but no need any more...)
And than I install some "optional" apps (not allways):
Adblock,
MIX (powerfull pict edior but comes only for Samsung I believe),
Some of Runtastic apps,
SD Maid,
TeamViewer,
Weather & Clock Widget and
Xda app.

Good question but this it's the place for this discussion!

There's an app called "Free App of the Day"
you can give that a shot
You should also get Google Opinion Rewards.
You basically do surveys and get like 10-40 cents per survey, sometimes even more, which can be used to buy apps and other things on the play store.

Sorry but are you jokeing you have loads of the same type of apps. Close the thred.
Sent from my Pulse Mini using Tapatalk
No I am not jokeing and I know I have some apps of the same kind and that is why I am asking the members which one they thing I should keep and which one I should remove.
Do the brave thing and delete everything. You'll soon realise what you need.
Seriously, I stopped reading the list when I saw, like, 5 news readers. Keep Pulse (or your favorite if it's not pulse), and delete the rest. Delete any news apps, and find the address to its RSS feed. Add those feeds to whatever reader you kept, and you've already eliminated at least 5 redundant apps.
Use the same strategy for everything else. You should be able to tell when two apps are doing the same thing. Just pick your favorite and delete the rest.
Edit: Are you kidding me? 5 or 6 file managers. I would stick with Root Explorer or SU and delete the rest.
I'm gonna leave it at that, because that is way too many apps. Good luck streamlining.
Looks like a list of downloaded warez, and you're just trying to figure out which ones to use.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
AAAH! MY EYES THEY BURN! dude litterally. what are you tryin to do go app crazy? CM6.1 has it's own file manager that works great (once the full version comes out i'll be happy) as for all the double apps get rid of em. literally why so many apps. only keep the ones you will use not the ones that will sit and collect fragmentation (hahaha fragmentation kinda like dust is to objects).

I was thinking the same thing when I saw both Root Explorer and SU on the list, not to mention all the other duplicate-function paid apps.
@OP: You should listen to the dude who said to delete everything and start from scratch. And with no wares this time.

Do you have all of these apps installed and running on your phone?
Sounds like you would have some performance issues with these apps, narrow the list.
Do a Google search for the "app" name + "Android review". When I am looking to accomplish a certain task, I Google that on some review site. This will narrow your scope.
I have not, I repeat I have not downloaded these apps from waez or as a package but spent time on appbrain and install each and EVRY app I listed and tried them, th initial liost was 500+ apps, I have narrowed to 200 apps, I just wanted to know which ones people think are the ones worth keeping, the reason I have shortlisted these are because I like the functionality and Ui, however it could happen that some function is available in app x and also in appy but I don't know yet (not played enough), but people on the forum are able to point that out.
Most of the apps listed are highly rated and popular.
I have updated the list by cutting down on some apps.
i will give reason for each app, once i find some time.
That's defo a warez list lol.
You wouldn't have listed all the free version and paid versions if not.
No way you'd have paid for all those apps without trying them.
Made me lol in rl.
Use whichever you feel more comfy using.
Good luck
edit... quick Google search I just found your current list in a wares torrent. In the same order.... Lol

And for every app group (be it warez or not), there is not simply an app that beats them all. It all depends upon your interests and personal preferences, and no one but you can decide what is the app out of a group that fits you most. So please stop asking others to do a work you only can do yourself.

I have actually been felt very offended by the fact that members feel that I am using from torrent or warez. As proof here is the list on appbrain:
appbrain .com / user / mohitgarg / need-to-test-install
appbrain .com / user / mohitgarg / faved
And mr leetvtr, eff off, i could find the apps u use in a torrent too.
If I wanted to keep them and be a horder I would not have listed them, the whole purpose was to get input from people about what they feel about an app and if they would discourage the use of a particular app for some particular reason.
I actually did try all of them for less than 22 hours (paid) as I wanted to try and then get a refund, thus didn not have enough time to play with them, but these r the ones i liked in terms of first impression. I actually have tried many more (paid too) apps but did not like them and thus needed your help, what a friendly society, really!
Cut down to one newsreader. For social apps, I'd use Facebook, TweetCaster, GoChat, and Tapatalk.
This combination provides the best coverage of features with the smallest footprint on your phone.
I would also go with Winamp for music, and YXPlayer for movies, since they each offer the best quality and broadest compatibility of their respective media types. I'd also cut down to just Astro and Root Explorer for file managers. While Astro may seem redundant, it's been beneficial to me to have a "pedestrian" file manager, and I also find Astro's zip manager more reliable. Only keep the Google Apps you are actually going to use. I can almost guarantee Google Sky and Goggles will just end up collecting dust in your app tray. The majority of the apps you have listed are pretty specific in purpose. If you aren't using then, and aren't sure if you need them, back then up with AppMonster and uninstall them. You'll always have then to reinstall from your SD if you every want to try then again. That's about all the advice I've got.
Powered by Tapatalk™ for Android™!
Thanks for the constructive criticism, higly appreciated.
I have updated the list, need more suggestions.

Its generally safest to freeze. When a system update gets pushed out many times you have to have all the original apps and bloat installed or it will fail. So to be safe you freeze them and when you get notified there is an update you unfreeze all the apps to be safe.
Hope this makes some sense.
I am sorry buddy. I am only 3 weeks old in android ecosystem and still trying to figure how to make things little stable. Do I need to root my phone to freeze all these apps? or if i can freeze some without rooting please lemme know how to freeze. thanks!

Yes, you will need root.
To freeze the apps, you need to get the Titanium Backup app in the market. (It's one of those must have tools.) Besides backing up (obviously) you can click on a specific app to get a menu. This menu will have the freeze option. Note that you don't want the long press menu if you just want to freeze an app. Long press brings up a different menu.
Your list seems to be relative. Some people actually like AT&T Wifi hot spots. Who doesn't like free wifi?

Freezing the app basically makes the app become completely dormant. It still resides on the phone but the system doesn't see it. It basically hides it from anything that might try to use it. You do need the paid version of Titanium Backup to use it but it's easily worth the minimal cost.

but its nice to have the back up and other options you get from TiBu. This is pretty nice for rom users as well that want to swich around and not have to reinstall everything.
Tried to freeze Live TV . TiBU says it's frozen but the icon is still there. When I tap on it, phone says it's not installed. How do I get rid of the icon?
To get rid of the icon you'll have to uninstall the app. It says its not installed because its frozen, the system won't run that app. But the app is still on the phone. I think its best just to leave them frozen.

A good HSPA connection is typically faster (ignoring ping) than an AT&T Hotspost unless you are standing on top of it.

[Q] Basic Q - where are paid apps stored + backup

As a new Android user with the samsung I have just downloaded and paid for my first App from the Play Store.
How do I back it up in case I need to restore it in the future?
Where is the app stored? I downloaded Sketchbook Pro but when I look in the folder that has been created there are no files!
Uset Titanium Backup for data. Play remembers that you purchased The app, so it probably even restores itself if you eg reset your device.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using XDA Premium HD app
No need to backup, really. Play Store will have it for you when you reset your device so you can install it again and on as many devices as you want as long as they use your email address.
If you are root. go to /system/ app/ this is where they usually are . Some apps use your personal media space to share data.. like in .. /sdcard/android/???? somtimes this is a folder called obb.. Sometimes the /sdcard could be / data/ sorry i do not yet have this tablet but looking forword to getting it . As soon as i get my refund for the two nexus 7 defective devices i sent back..
What about apps like Plague inc. which have in app purchases?

As long as you purchase from Google play and use the same email account, Google will remember the in-app purchases too. I purchased an app that had an in-app option which i also bought, installed the same app on two devices i.e.tablet and phone and had no issues including the in-app aspect.
App backup and restore works fine for me, just backing up the app but not the data.
Aside from the fact that your purchases are tied to your Google account as they said, you can use AirDroid (which is really really handy) to pull APK files from your device and make back-up copies on your PC. Just don't, you know, distribute them.

I use ES Taskmanager and ES Exlorer to backup and access my apps. It allows you to select where you want to save your backups and it gets all the apps I have tried including purchased apps like Sketchbook Pro. Then I like to copy the backed up apps and store them elsewhere for safe keeping in case for some reason that app gets dropped from where I got it or it is replaced with a version I don't like. BTW you don't need to know where the app is ES Taskmanager will find them. Note some apps when you find where they are they are listed with odd names like "vnz-1111881564.apk" for Kindle reader so knowing where they are does not really help all the time but ES Taskmanager shows the name you will recognize.

I agree with @millionsun93, ES sucks since it was sold by the original Devs. Try Solid Explorer or FX.
Why Bitdefender? You don't really need antivirus on Android, you just have to be careful and only install apps from the playstore or trustworthy places.
FX instead of ES for sure.
NetGuard for firewall and ad-blocking
If you're not rooted, MyBackup Pro. Unfortunately, it doesn't back up app settings, but it works reliably other than that (and unlike Helium, which doesn't work at all for many, and is unsupported)

I agree with @millionsun93, ES sucks since it was sold by the original Devs. Try Solid Explorer or FX.
Why Bitdefender? You don't really need antivirus on Android, you just have to be careful and only install apps from the playstore or trustworthy places.

No, any problem at all!
But I tryed it for a bit of time, and i can't see nothing that other most popular IM Services won't do, Telegram, for example is really much better in my opinion, the same end-to-end encriptyon and sincerely, just few people use Signal.....
So, IMHO, put it in a list of "Must Have Apps" is a bit ridiculous.
Bye!

For me, what Signal has that Telegram and others don't is the ability to manage both my sms and secure texts. So if I send a message to someone that does not have Signal installed, the app sends a plain sms. If I send a message to someone who also uses signal, it sends an encrypted message.
For me it's much easier than using Telegram, for example, where I have to convince the other person to install the app or else use two different texting apps.
If this scenario doesn't apply to you, than Telegram and others are just fine.
I also like the fact that it is open source.
afwall (firewall open source)
Solid Explorer
Wifi Shoot (Wifi Direct File Transfer).
QuickPic much better than Google Photos as it doesnt reduce quality.
VLC
Podcast Addict
Apex Launcher
Adaway
AFfirewall
duckduckgo widget - nice little browser
Fdroid - lots of free open source apps
Google authenticator - 2FA everywhere
Flipboard - mobile magizine
kontalk - open source private messaging client
opengur - imgur client
Root explorer
Titanium backup
Virus total - really good malware scanner
