Is it worth to pay the premium for the Snapdragon? - Samsung Galaxy S10e Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I think it's time to update my xz1 compact, and the s10e seems like the perfect successor!
I've been reading online review and all seem to point to the Snapdragon version being better than exynos in almost everything. The only downside would be the lack of rooting as far as I can tell.
I'm currently in Dubai so the version sold here is the Exynos. It's pretty cheap here but I was thinking of ordering the Chinese version (SM-G9700) online even if it costs $100 more. Does that make sense??

no

Well I did it for 2 reasons:
Support for dual band GNSS
Better battery

Is it really dual band GNSS, do you have test it?

Don't have the phone yet but Goggle it and you'll find some articles on the fact that the Snapdragon 855 has support for it but apparently it has been disabled on US versions of it but not on the Hongkong/Chinese variants.

Same , mainly for battery life. Did you get it ?

So the battery life of the snapdragon version of the G970 is better? Because of better CPU power consumption? What are the other differences?
I am about to upgrade from a Note 4 and am unsure if there will be custom ROMs for either of the versions. Note4 almost only Snapdragon has custom, here it´s stated that Exynos will be having better support. Am a little confused if and which version I should take.
Thanks for any clarification...

I have the Hongkong version and can confirm that it has dual frequency GNSS.

I don't know if the battery is better as you find different infos from different users. For me it lasts similar to the S9 I had before, may be 15% more.
But I'm very happy with the overall performance as you can see from the Antutu values...

Don't bother with battery comparisons on the i9500, the phone is unfinished.

So I got my i9500 and already did some foolery with it.
Fine device, but I hate the raised lip around the screen edge. Something I definitely did not miss on the S3 and something very annoying.
Other than that small design critique:
THE ****ING PHONE ISN'T RUNNING FINAL FIRMWARE!
Basically the CPU is running on the cluster migration driver, meaning it switches all four cores from the LITTLE to the big cluster, as opposed to the core migration driver who does this in an individual core-pair manner.
You can pretty much throw all battery comparisons out of the window: it's completely unfinished and unoptimal.
I already compiled the kernel and flashed it without the cluster migration tidbit, but the phone won't boot. So yea. Current sources also useless.
Cleverly enough: you can't really distinguish between the two drivers apart from one manner: if /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/iks-cpufreq/max_eagle_count is present, you're running an IKS driver. If it's not, then you're running the sub-optimal IKCS driver.
So yea. We'll see what Samsung does about this, currently the advantages of big.LITTLE are pretty much unused.
Another nail in the coffin on how rushed and unprepared this phone has been.
Wow, this is seriously turning out to be a fiasco.

This is EXACTLY why at the end I don't care for technical details about socs but was rather waiting for real world usage first. As much I wanted to agree with Andrei Lux on how intelligent BigLittle is, I sort of felt that it wont be same at the end.
Question is now: Is this possible to fix in the near future?? So that maybe buying the Exynos will be beneficial if the devs take over. I wont bet on Samsung introducing mind-blowing improvements in that department in upcoming firmwares

The code other driver is there in the kernel, it's just not used. No idea. It's not like we need Samsung for it: I already talked to a developer at Linaro about some incomplete switcher code that's being currently getting the green-light to be made public. But who knows how long that will take.
Whatever the case, I gather that they can't just let it be in the current state.

Any way to just disable cortex a15 altogether yet just to see how well cortex a7 will perform in simple texting, browsing, calling and to see what the battery life will be like on that?? (cause cortex a7 only uses like 200 something mw as opposed to 1000mw for snapdragon). I know u wont be able to game. How often does Cortex A15 hits in? cause I would suspect a much worse battery life with incomplete drivers doing the switching if its very often on. But PocketNow reports very similar battery results to snapdragon variant which I find odd

Use any app to limit the CPU frequency to 600MHz. That'll limit it to the A7 cores running to 1200MHz. Basically you can just use CPU-Spy. Everything <= 600 are A7's mapped at half frequency, everything above it are A15's at 1:1 frequency.
As for PocketNow: irrelevant. The difference is what could be instead of what is, the Snapdragon doesn't play a role in the discussion here.
WOW , thats sucks
Samsung was too rushed and ruined it :/

Hey thanks, but I don't have the S4 to test it with since i'm still debating on which to get. I live in Canada and so the only version here which I can get a lot cheaper on a contract is LTE snapdragon, but I wont mind getting the Exynos since it got potential. Besides 16GB internal isn't enough for me. So that's why asking if u seen any improvements in battery when only cortex a7 ran? If a7 doesn't do much in power consumption, then no point spending 800 bucks and loosing LTE altogether...

that's not what samsung exynos advertised..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6UNODPHAHo
Is it possible that we're having a simpler Exynos 5 system technically closer to Exynis 5 Quad (plus 4 A7 cores) than a real seamless Octa-core system? It was strange reading that "Octa-core manufacturing starts in Q2" (April-June) then see Octa-core versions hitting reviewers early April, that's way too low time frame. Maybe this is a 1st-gen 5410. In any case, performance and current-state battery life beats the Snapdragon version, even if only just.

WHAT THE [email protected]??!!
Actually WTF is a massive understatement here....!!!
Please can you give more info about this matter whenever is possible? This is very serious...
Is it a specific hardware limitation? Something that Samsung specificly did in GS4 (I9500) ?
Because this can't be a generic exynos octa limitation. It makes no sense... Unless everything we've read from Samsung and ARM about exynos octa, are completely misleading...
A hardware limitation..? They advertised the functionality and to then release a device without it, is just plain stupid. Hopefully it is a just a kernel issue and can be resolved quickly.

Probably Samsung will implement it in their Note 3 device? It's a conspiracy so that people buy their next Note phone but this news is sad.

Now what is this all about? Is this a very serious issue?
So its either all A15s or all A7s?
so would the 'octa' really be a better choice than the S600? That should be powerful enough.. and the S600 is pretty power efficient too

What I understood is its either the full cluster of a7 or a15 is used/ functional based on the load, dynamically turning on one or two cores of a15 to work along with a7 may not be possible it seems.
I may be wrong, waiting for an elaborate exp from andrei

I was always under the impression this was the intention of Samsung's particular implementation of it. I thought it was common knowledge that Samsung's version worked on a 4 or 4 (A15) or (A7) basis.
Maybe he was talking about the ability to change that.

[Q] a special edition of N8010?

Recently I found a special edition of n8010 called engerneering edition or something,
It differs from the general n8010,it has a exynos 4410 dual-core CPU and only 1g ram.
(general edition has exynos 4412,Quad-core CPU and 2g ram, else are the same)
Now it has a system of android 4.0.3,every ROM for general n8010 dosen't work on this one.(A poor guy has tried this,and,thanks th him~!)
so I wanna know if I'd use android 4.0.4 or higher version,how?
Is it easy for ROM modifing?
Well,plz ignore my poor English~~

Its Likely real.. Samsung created a version of the Note 10.1 with alot less power. There were huge issues with its speed. I think it might have been sold to one test market or maybe just there testers. Anyway samsung then decided to NOT sell the device. The upgraded the cpu ram and a used faster memory and that is the one that we all have .
I do not remember all of the details but the above could be somewhat incorrect. I DO know there was a dual core 1 gb version that never made it to mass production . So that note seems to be one of them

HTC One ME (Dual Sim)(M9EW)

Hello,
HTC introduced the One ME dual-SIM with Helio X10 chipset and support for Indian 4G LTE networks. This handset was unveiled in China earlier this month and will be sold in Classic Rose Gold and Meteor Grey color options in India.
The One ME is HTC’s second WQHD smartphone with fingerprint sensor after the One M9+ to enter the Indian market. Styled like the rest of the One product family, the device has a polycarbonate body.
Specs-wise, the device packs the latest 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 MT6795T mobile chipset with 2.2GHz octa-core CPU and 3GB of RAM. A 5.2” QHD display, 32GB of expandable memory, and 20MP main camera are also on board. HTC One ME boots Sense-d Android Lollipop.
The dual-SIM handset supports Indian 4G LTE network bands - 1800Mhz (Band 3) and 2600 MHz (Band 40) to deliver fast mobile web speeds, but only in select regions. Other connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.1 with apt-X, and GPS with A-GPS/GLONASS/Beidou support.
HTC One ME dual-SIM is priced for India at INR 40,500 ( about $640). The device will be available from this weekend onwards.

anybody ?:crying::crying:
I've read some reviews about it as I'm so interested in dual sim flagship phones. Since this phone has high specs with a very reasonable price as it's now available now for $550-$600; it really got my attention.
Most of the people say that it heats up and drains battery faster. It also lags sometimes with multitasking and heavy gaming. Other than that it's working fine. I really like the specs and the design but disappointed that it lacks wireless charging and also doesn't give the chance to add a wireless charging receiver as it has a fixed back battery cover.
Anyone owning the device could give us a real feedback about it!

Last day I went to magnet mall in vileparle west mumbai and checked this device... around 20 min from design to sound to FP sensor to dual sim...its awesome device. The couler i used was gold...and device look awedome golden. Here are some major features packed in this phone, these are checked by me and confirmed specs.
* Nice back camera with 4k recording and front 4up
* Latest 64 bit MTK helio 10 processor
* Dual sim dual stanndby
* Touch fingerprint * homekey
* Fm radio
* IR blaster
* 32 gb memory plus 3 gb ram
* Sense 7 and Android 5.0.2
* Dolby dual BoomSound speaker
* 5.2 inch 2k Res screen.
* Price Only: 37000 INR (at Alfa Mumbai)
* Other features are same as other Htc flagship devices.
BUT UNFORTUNATELY, even after so good device and already availability there is NO FORUM FOR THIS DEVICE IN XDA. I already requested forum for this device via 'New Device Forum request' (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62090540 ) thread. And hope soon it will get its own forum.

2. Performance (MTK helio10 is really capable handling graphic loaded games and apps)
3. Is there Heating Issue? (I heard somewhere about this.....???!!!)

Just received the device yesterday, I bought it from eBay. I'm really impressed with the design. The grey one gives you a metal build feel. Sense 7 is great. There is FM and USB host option if there is anyone wondering. I didn't assess battery life yet, not before one week. I noticed that the boom sound is less in intensity compared to m8. There is some heating up but not exaggerated as people complain about, maybe coz I didn't overload it seriously but with normal use it's OK. I still didn't check the mhl adaptor. Overall it should be considered as a flagship phone but with a very reasonable price.

Future Proof & Gaming

I have seen on older videos on internet, that S820(HTC 10,LG G5) outclasses the Exynos 8890. But i have seen Exynos 8890 doing wonders on Vulkan.
And how about Future proof? When Samsung stop releasing softwares for S7 in 1-2years, is there any way to get tot the newer android, knowing that we dont have CM14?
So should i switch my S7 for a S820 Device for gaming and future proof?
Upp
Dont worry about it, you will just get a new phone.

>knowing that we don't have CM14
now that's where you're wrong:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/rom-s7-exynose-project-t3526976
Anyway, the 8890 is a great processor and in daily usage it outperforms the SD820

And the only way that does 2 things go together is as i thought a NEXUS (but even nexus has a lot of problems with hardware problems even though on software it rocks) ?

no, running same firmware and last one
Taro is the codename for the Snapdragon Gen 1, you can just Google it and find numerous references.... It could be there were different versions of CPU-Z showing either codename or "official" name, not sure as I don't use CPU Z, though....
