[Q] Replacement Screen - Where to buy? - ASUS ZenFone 6 (2019) Questions & Answers

So, of course I cracked my screen (just the glass) within the first week.
Has anyone been able to find replacement screens? What sort of time-frame should I expect on release?

How did you break it ?

I thought it had gorilla glass 6? How did you break it so fast

It does but any glass can break if it's hit with enough force.

The phone hasn't even been fully released yet. You may have an issue finding any parts yet.

Just a fall from waste height onto concrete. Had the provided case on but it clipped the bottom where there is no coverage. Main issue is the digitiser registers touches when a finger is 20mm above the screen. Really kills usability. I suppose it's back to the old phone until the parts situation improves.

WTB HTC but concerned about screen

I lost my sgs4g recently and was looking into getting an htc sensation. One thing I'm noticing is that the screens crack pretty easily (falling from 5ft). The sgs4g has gorilla glass and I would drop it plenty of times and although it would fall apart without the case(back cover and battery pops out), the screen would never crack. From what i have seen, the htc has gorilla glass yet it cracks so easily. Why is this? Is there a screen defect with the phone? From what I've seen so far, the phone seems great but the screen issue users seem to be having concerns me.

i know of a digitizer issue but an easily crackable screen? never heard that one before
ok i read a bit further and the way most people spoke of the phone,it had me think they were one and the same. the digitizer will crack easily but the screen itself will be fine am i correct on that?
Is there anyone else that would like to chime in on this? I remember reading a thread where a person asked whether if the replacement digitizer would be gorilla glass which had me think that the digitizer and screen are one and the same. Also are there any other issues with the phone besides the digitizer that i should know about?

the display and the digitizer screen are separate pieces
the digitizer is a part of the gorilla glass screen and the display is beneath that
it doesnt crack, it shorts out and stops working properly for some. it can easily be prevented. if it happens, its an easy fix and if you want a new one you can replace it i think its about 20 bucks
oh ok great how can i prevent it? and is the easy way to fix it the software update as mentioned in a stickied thread? i basically dont want it to ever look like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142379
All you need to do is to be a little bit carefull whit your phone ..
I wonder why are you so worried lol do you drop your phones alot ?

The Sensation is a quite durable phone... I've dropped it a couple of times with no issues...
Load "xda post"
Press play on tape
The Sensation does NOT have gorillaglass.
You can effortlessly push down hard enough on the digitizer to get it to touch the actual LCD panel underneath. It's an oleophobic plastic.

i would say yes
just from the design of our screen (curved around the edges) it could possibly make it a tiny bit weaker

Cracked glass...need some advice

Hi all, I could use some advice. I was using the tablet the other day, and I dropped it from a height of about 3" onto a hard surface. The glass was scratched and the metal frame got bent. 2 Days later I was using the Tablet and the screen cracked under my thumb. there is now a 3-4" crack and the touch screen does not work anymore.
Luckily, I bought it with my Amex and they have a warranty that will replace or repair the item.
Of course since it is only a month old, I want a new one not a repaired one. Does anyone know if the screen can be replaced (Tablet repaired) I am hoping for a NO, but Amex wants some sort of proof that it is, or is not repairable.
I am not sure if Asus is going to cover it, as it is rooted, but it seems that a 3" drop should not cause this sort of problem..... Corning Glass II and already scratch and cracked. One would think it should be at least somewhat durable and shouldn't break quite that easily.
Any thoughts or idea's would be much appreciated.

You just have really bad luck. Normally, a 3" drop should not cause problems.

Asus would repair it for a fee. You could probably replace it yourself, but as the TF700 is new and not as popular as the TF201 and TF300 you may have a hard time finding the parts. And, for that matter, a dissasembly guide.

It all depends on the angle. Gorilla Glass is only strong against direct impact. If it lands on a corner, side, or any other position where the sides of the glass does not land completely flat it'll shatter. Mohs Scale of Hardness at work - the harder/scratch resistant it is, the weaker it is against hard impact. Pretty much why I'd actually rather not have a gorilla glass device if I had a choice.

i can fix it. i work for a place where all i do is fix tablets, phones and computers. if you want to pay for the part then i could fix it, but thats probably not something you want to do... just thought id offer.

Thanks for the offer, yup.... I have been thinking about it and my goal is to try and get a new one if possible 1st. Will try to get a replacement from Asus if I can't from amex.. Then worst case scenario, I can have Amex pay to get it fixed.

Gorilla Corning Glass 2

How strong is this suppise to be? My phone took a two inch fall and the screen is pretty much gone.
iTzAmazed
Normally its supposed to be decently strong. However, due to the design of the phone and the way the glass curves around the edges, it isn't uncommon for the point of impact to be directly on the glass. This creates a vulnerability for the device and is why you see so many broken S3s. This phone requires a case.

Had this phone for months with no case and it still looks great. Been through a couple medium drops (nothing too crazy, but a couple feet onto concrete from the car) and no marks at all.
I refuse to double the size of my phone, which i bought because it was so sleek and small

I think two inch fall will cause no damage don't you think? Unless you meant two feet.

I have a uag case, too risky not to. I dropped mine from my mouth into the floor at the gas station. My only concern was getting it sanitized so I didn't get any germs.

The problem with Gorilla Glass is the corners. From my experiences anyway. A short drop right on the corner completely wrecked my screen once. But I think two inches is quite an exaggeration. Had to be at least 2ft. Maybe a foot.

I find it hard to believe that you dropped your S3 a couple of feet, from a car and onto the concrete and didn't at least get a scuff mark?
Unless you drive hot wheels and your concrete is made of grass!

That must be some drop. My screen shattered but it was also 10 degrees outside.
I have replaced several gorilla glass screens. They are great for scratch resistance, almost indestructible that way, but hit them on the edge, or pry up on it and snap crackle pop. I don't care what phone I have had, it gets a case that comes over the front to keep glass off table etc when face down, and I use Phantom Skinz on all my screens. Never had a problem yet, but it is fun replacing friends screens who don't like cases and screen covers ;-0.
droped mine less than 18 inches but caught the corner just right and shattered. the one time i didn't get insurance:crying:

Honestly how strong is the screen protector. Like against good hits and stuff... I usually do the field goal catch when I drop my phone, where it flies across the room... Obviously that still might be too much, but do you think it would hold up pretty good?

I think the screen protector is pretty strong. I look at it as a thin plastic/rubbery barrier between the glass and any sharp objects that might impact the glass. I have never broken or cracked a screen myself and had some pretty good drops/punts when trying to catch with foot lol.
Scratchproof not crashproof
GG protects against scratches, that's about it. I don't believe its any more shatter resistant than other glass. I use a bumper case, which protects the edges but leaves the back largely uncovered. Best compromise I could find between protection and not adding bulk. I actually prefer it to uncovered because I always found that the GS3 was kind of slick and easy to drop without a case of any kind.

Mine screen got scratched pretty soon after I purchased it. I was pretty disappointed. Ended up getting a ZAG and it's held up nicely.
My screen scratched from my finger nail. My wife's screen is all scratched to hell. Yet she does nothing different than she did with her Fascinate with gg1. I think the coating on gg2 much softer.
I don't like it.

It actually fell out of my pocket (pants pocket - lower cargo pocket so about knee height) as I was getting it out.
Thing is, this was new years eve, and it had been sitting in my car for a number of hours. It landed on the edge of a concrete walkway, so it was uneven pressure when it hit.
And being as there was snow on the ground, it was really cold - the phone being in my car (off by the way) for those hours meant it was just as cold (and brittle) when it hit.

There are two things on the screen in that picture - my customary piece of electrical tape over the front facing camera, and a screen protector.
The screen protector is why it's still usable. Without it, all the pieces of screen would have fallen out. The only thing that is broken, is the gorilla glass part of the screen.
It sucks trying to work through all the cracks and breakage, but because the screen protector keeps it all there and flat I can work through all that mess.
I bought another 32 gig model, so it's not the s3 I use day to day, but it does still have its role in my division of the android army.
I always use screen protectors, I don't care what claims are made about the screen. With it you have a chance to still use it in a worst case like this. Without it, this device would be relatively useless.
I'll eventually get around to buying another screen for it, but the screen protector held it together long enough for me to get another one, and now it's not such a priority on my list. Someday.

Screen coating is coming off?

Noticed that from the place where my thumb usually makes up/down scroll is strange area, and even I clean the screen, this area is still there. See Yourself - I made a picture, clean screen, water steam (breath), and this middle area is the problem. My thumb is normal, I'm a normal user and I had newer such problem with any phone.
Is the Gorilla Glass really so bad or is it coated with some stuff which is just coming off?

No, I have not used any kind of screen cover, but seems that Moto G screen is covered with the the water-resistance coating and this is failing off - it's clearly visible when cleaning the screen with some liquid, only this area stays wet.
But I don't think this is normal behavior. I can't imagine what the power users screen is now or will be later. I contacted with the Amazon ( I have one dead pixel too), let's see what they say.

If it contains a dead pixel better get a replacement, all the best for that.
BTW water repellent coating is done on the internals of the device.

I know about internal coating. But as You see, the screen is also coated. I have the proof.
I made a test, sprayed water to the screen, and as You see, the damaged area stays wet, while the rest rejects it.
The question is - do I have faulty screen or this will happen to everyone sooner or later?

well you are the first one to report something like this and i agree with you because this might happen with others also sooner or later. Its very much possible that your screen is faulty since you mentioned its new (maybe the screen had tiny dust particle before the coating took place) many members are using the phone without any screen-guard but none have mentioned anything like this..A lot of member have got dead pixels on their screens and got them replaced.
I'm using a screen guard since the screen will get scratched over the time.

Well, Amazon just replied and they will replace it with the new one, so I have to wait for the new one and later send the old one back. Let's hope that this one's screen ( I still don't like to add the screen protector, as it's kind of ugly) will last longer.
If you apply the screen protector carefully, you won't even know it's on! It's your choice tough but what you reported is pretty worrying. That area of the screen seems too big tough for it to be a thumb, (you touch with just the tip of the thumb) do it was probably already a little damaged when you got it and with the time it got bigger and bigger. Or maybe you scratched your screen somehow?

the is an oliophobic coating on the screen of the moto g (part of the gorilla glas). this is also the reason why you generally get less fingerprints on the display than on a screen protector and why it's much easier to clean the display than the scren protector

I'm 100% sure that I haven't scratched the screen purposely, juts normal, id even say careful using. And if I clean the screen, it's bright and like a new, impossible to detect any damages, also this problematic area is clean and shiny. But when I touch it or spray water etc, it's clearly visible. So choices are:
1) Add screen protector (let someone do it, once I added it to iPhone and the result was terrible).
2) Polish the whole screen, so that this coating is removed.
3) Replace.
4) Ignore.

OnePlus 6 tempered glass screen protector problems

I have had my screen protector from OnePlus on since I received the phone in May. As of right now, there is a crack spanning the entire screen, top to bottom and a half a ring shaped crack in the bottom of the screen protector. I have not dropped the device nor have I had anything impact the device. It has simply cracked under the pressure of my own pocket. I strongly urge against buying one. I have reached out to OnePlus and their response was that it was already installed, so they refused to do anything, even after providing many pictures and a video proving there was not a single scratch on the phone or screen protector. It is a total price of garbage. Do not buy!
So no crack in your phone screen? Thats all that matters tho. I mean maybe you didnt notice when you bumped into something because i doubt it can crack in your pocket only.
If i was you i would buy the moloco full adhesive screen protector from aliexpress for 3.99 dollar because it looks the same as the orig one.

Yea thats the one bro! And full adhesive is the way to go because matrix dot or edge only protectors are terrible.
Also if you really need a good protector then you can try to glue it on with LOCA 2500 glue. Videos are on youtube.

When it's in my pocket, I always have the screen to my leg. Also has a case. I'll dig through the pictures I sent OnePlus and post them later after work. Not a single scratch on anything, even the screen protector.
Anyone notice the sensitivity of the screen has lessened since using the OnePlus 6 tempered glass screen protector? Takes more effort to double tap, sometimes around the edges of the screen touch is iffy, I'm considering taking it off but would prefer to keep it on for obvious reasons..

I notice it a bit, but not enough to impact anything. I have big hands and they are strong from playing guitar so I usually press slightly harder anyway. It is a little on the thick side. Going to try a plastic as a replacement for my damaged one. I'll report how well it works after the weekend.
