Whenever I call people on the loudspeaker, the person on the other end says I sound muffled or crackly. Anyone else have the same issue. Fastboot flashed stock rom and made no difference.
Yeah I've been having the same issue since the phone came out. Not sure if it can be fixed or not with a software update.
Glad it isn't just me
same here!

Hello all!
I am a noob on here so if this has been asked or brought up before please forgive me. I couldn't find any info on this issue. After installing 2.3.4 on my sensation (I am running stock out of the box) I notice when I connect the phone to wifi and use wifi calling that when I use the speaker phone on my phone, the person on the other end can no longer hear me. The person just says hello over and over and totally cuts off the mic on my phone. When I enter it back to the regular headset, it continues to be cut off. When I try troubleshooting the issue I connected to the t mobile network it works just fine. Only when I use the wifi calling feature does this happen. Does this happen to anyone else? Is this a known bug? I did a battery pull and this did not fix the problem. Any suggestion or feed back would be much appreciated. Thank you everyone!
Not one person is having this issue? Can anyone help out there? At least let me know if it is a known issue. I know the speaker phone is terrible but I'm only trying to find out if there is a fix for this.
Thanks!
HTC Sensation Speakerphone does not work on WIFI
I am having the same issue. Speakerphone does not work over Wifi. Person on the other end cannot hear me and I often cannot hear them. When I am not using Wifi, speakerphone works fine. Version 2.3.4 seemed to improve speakerphone volume, but it still does not work over Wifi. I contacted HTC tech support and they said while they were unaware of the problem, but it is possible that it exists. They said they would investigate. We will see. Not sure whether the HTC Amaze has the same problem.
I had the same issue till I S-offed and flashed a new ROM. I think it's something with TMO's factory ROM they have the speaker function turned way down and my first Sensation would do just what urs is.
Rec: Unlock (S-off) and flash a new ROM (I personally am running CoreDroid 2.4)
I'm on ARHD 3.6.2 and non speaker phone works ok, but on speaker I've been told its hard to hear.
I am also having a same issue. I've opened up a ticket with t-mobile. T-mobile techs are looking into this issue. Yesterday I went to the store from which I purchased my sensations and showed them the issue. We tested the issue with other HTC android devices but only sensation is having this Issue.
I noticed this problem a couple months ago, and am surprised there hasn't been a software update to fix it. In the meantime, I just shut off wifi if I expect to make a phone call using the speaker phone, which is somewhat annoying.
Whenever I install official JB 4.1.1 or lux droid v3, My speaker sound is changing by itself drom speakerphone to in-ear.But always do that after I record video and play it.All media sound (ringtone, music..etc) went through IN-ear speakerphone.I tried "villec2_jb_speakerfixv9" but no help.
I have HTC One S cid_032 s3 vesion.What to do now ?

Well, I'm facing exactly the same issue. It is quite strange. If I record a video on my phone, and then play it, the sound would come from earpiece (front speaker) instead of rear speakers. And after that, the ringtone (on incoming calls), video playback sounds will keep on coming from the front speaker (earpiece). I do not know whether it is a hardware issue or a software issue. Can someone confirm it?
My phone (S3) has JB 4.1.1. I do not know whether Jelly Bean update is causing this issue or not, coz when I bought this phone, it was already upgraded to JB.
Can someone who has upgraded his phone to JB confirm it? Are these kind of issues related to hardware or software?
And well to fix it on temporary basis, what I did was I made call from some other number to my phone (One S), the sound/ringtone was coming from earpiece. After making this call, I went to Sound settings (in HTC one S) and re selected the ring tone and it solved the issue. Now the ringtone and other sounds are coming from rear speakers. If the issue is not resolved after re selecting the ring tone, do one thing, flip your phone and make call again to your phone, reject it, and then again select some ringtone for your phone, hopefully it'll resolve your issue on temporary basis. I also tried that (though the option "flip for speaker" is not selected in my phone).
It seems only few handsets have this issue. :S ?
Anyway if anyone else is facing the same issue, let us know here, so we can discuss about it.

Hello,
I have the same problem. Sometimes, my sound get crazy and it can be hear from front speaker, except from back speaker.
After that, I have to do a restart and it's OK, but that's annoying.
VilleC2, it happens after JB update.

I'm really not sure what happened at first I thought it was a software problem but after checking all the roms on my Multirom including my OG stock ROM and it seems to me my mic is broken. I noticed it because I use voice to text and voice search allot and it was working fine on Preview LPX13D and the white Preview LPX13D for the N5 and then it just seemed to stop working at some point. I was going to post this in the Preview LPX13D thread but after testing it in all rom and doing a factory reset to stock unrooted and the problem is still there. so i'm guessing I'am just burnt and have to send my phone back to Google. My step dad gave it to me for xmas last year tho so I don't have the order # and or was not bought by me. I guess I will contact him and see if he will send it back for me. I was posting this to see if there was a solution i was unaware of because I did see a few people posting about the same problem when L first dropped but I didn't see any solutions and i'm guessing most people just sent there's in. If I'am not able to send it back to Google What part should I order to fix it. Is it the Speaker phone part that has both mics on it or the flex cable? Thanks to everyone for their help and advance and to all of the Devs for all their hard work.

I ended up sending my phone back I tried everything to fix it.
I am having the same issue. I can't make out what the fault is. I have googled extensively and it could be one of these:
1. Noise cancellation microphone
2. Earphone jack that doesn't recognise when the earphones are removed
3. A hardware malfunction.
The thing is that I have tested all of these.
1. Covering the noise cancellation mic or fiddling with the build.prop makes no difference
2. I have tried to turn off the headphones while they were in using an app from the play store. Didn't solve the problem
3. Installed a noise meter app and when I blow /tap straight on the grill were the mic is house, there is recognition. Also tested using Google voice search. Also recognised some words. Finally, if i make a call and put the phone in speaker mode the person on the other side hears me loud and clear. So not the hardware (I don't think)
I google some more and noticed that a number of phones have this issue not just the Nexus 5. For example the OnePlus One (https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/microphone-problem.91832/page-3), the Moto G (http://www.androidpure.com/how-to-fix-the-no-sound-during-calls-issue-on-the-moto-g/) the HTC One X (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283990), the LG Optimus (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2461432) and probably more.
So, could this be a broader problem with Android itself? I have too many questions.
Hopefully somebody brilliant from this forum will see this and apply their genius minds.

I was unable to find a solution for it. I sent my phone back to Google and got a New one. If you got yours from the play store less than a year ago you maybe able to get them to replace it.
I've been using the phone for almost 7 months now, the problem never occurred until a couple of days ago. In both incoming and outgoing calls, the other party can't hear me, not at all. I cut it and call them again, then it's okay. This problem, however, vanishes if I'm using a headphone or loudspeaker, but whenever I switch from the headphone/loudspeaker to hands-on, the problem immediately starts again. I've tried restarting the phone, doesn't help. Has anyone faced this issue? I heard in one place that a factory reset might be helpful, I'm not quite sure whether I should go for it. Can anyone tell me whether it's a software or a hardware level problem? Because this problem does not occur when I'm using Viber or Skype, it only occurs when I'm calling from my carrier number. Any help will be much appreciated.
I am having a similar if not the same problem. Phone is basically unusable. Going to try the low mic fix in this forum. Only other bit of info I'd add is I'm on AT&T.
Can you give me a link to that low mic fix?

Haven't tried it yet, but here it is.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/qa-low-mic-call-t3056078
OK, So I have flashed the low mic volume fix successfully, and though the problem was intermittent before, I have yet to see the issue persisting past the "fix".
I'll keep my fingers crossed and update if the problem shows up again.
I got my Pixel 3 unlocked from Google a couple of days ago. I really love the phone, but oddly, every time that I call my wife and I'm on speaker, it always takes 8-10 seconds for her to be able to hear me. This happens with no one else, as I've called multiple people on speaker. Google offered to RMA the device, but I'm not convinced that it's a hardware issue. If it's a software issue that will likely be fixed in the future, I will just keep this one. I'm not entirely sure what to make of it, but I don't really want to go through the RMA process just for it to continue happening. Has anyone else had similar experiences? From what I can see on Reddit and elsewhere, it appears to be a rather commonplace issue. I just can't justify waiting for another device to solve a wide spread problem. If it was a fluke issue, then a factory replacement wouldn't make me nervous. I think that I am just going to return the device for a full refund and wait for something else to come out. Sucks though, because I otherwise loved this phone.
I have noticed this as well. I try to talk over the speaker and the person on the other end can't hear me for a little bit. I might try to RMA the phone. How'd you go about talked to Google Support about the issue? A phone call, chat or email?

I was using the chat service, it worked fine. I haven't RMA'd the device. I went and got a new SIM card from AT&T and it seems better. I did tons of test calls to other people on different carriers and it only ever happened with my wife, who is in Verizon. For that reason, I don't think there is a hardware issue with my device, but I don't know what it might be.

I figured it out while I was messing with it yesterday. Turn off HD voice. "enhanced LTE" in the network settings menu and that fixes it. I am on AT&T and had great connectivity with same carrier subscribers, Sprint, and others. I tried calling multiple friends with Verizon and had the issue every time. So I just turned it off.
Update: it looks like December update fix my issue. Will update again if something happen
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This speakerphone issue is happening to me using TMobile and also using Whatsapp calls.
I noticed this issue because the phone is also not connecting to my Honda Civic 2016 Bluetooth and tried using the speakers.
I'll wait for December 2018 update and make lot of test before I contact Google.
I'm using the regular Pixel 3 white.
I have the same issue,,,when I first get a call and answer it with speakerphone no one can hear me for a few seconds then if I toggle speaker off then back on it works okay??

Doesn't this remove the ability to use group chats?
I got my wife the Pixel 3 at launch and we're on the 3rd phone because of this issue and it's still happening. It only happens on speakerphone (not regular) and her speakers seem to be fine which makes me think it's software and not hardware.

I agree with you. I think I'm still having issues with it even without it on. My wife is still saying it sounds like I'm in a tunnel any time I'm on speaker. I hope they get this resolved, and ASAP.

I am wondering if anyone has tried turning off the wifi calling option? I havent tried that yet as it is the only thing I havent tried to see if my phone doesnt have problems when first answering a call with the phones speakerphone and people on the other end not being able to hear me for the first few seconds? I saw in a Google thread that there may be a problem with the handoff of wifi to actual LTE calling and it makes it difficult for the phones speaker to know where to apply the sound to? I dont have a sim in my phone currently so I am wondering anyone else tried this to see?

I may have found a fix for this. Need you guys to confirm.
Goto the permissions of Google play services, and disable MIC permission. During phone calls you will see a 'this app needs permissions to run blah blah' ignore it. Test speaker phone now. I stumbled upon someone who mentioned this (can't find the post now) and I have had 0 issues w/ straight speaker phone.

My wife has this issue with her new Pixel 3 - oddly not when calling me (I have an S8) but when calling 3 other confirmed people (who [co-incidentally] all have iphones?). Even talking to them over handset first which is obviously fine, when she switches to speaker mid-call they can't hear her.
We tried this but she still has the issue.
