Did Oneplus kill this device? - OnePlus 7 Questions & Answers

Looking at the forum, there is not much dev activity compared to the Pro forum, which is a shame. This is likely because Oneplus decided to exclude certain countries from the sale...
I'd rather buy this device than the Pro, but it looks like Oneplus forced consumers in most countries to either buy the Pro or switch brands.
Is this device destined to be a flop?

I mentioned this on the community forum and was slated for it. I deleted the thread in the end. It was as if I had insulted the 7pro users personally. So weird.
It totally baffles me how OnePlus have done this with the 7. Why invest in a phone and then basically just release it and be meh about it.
The 7 in my opinion is what OnePlus should be about. Solid, simple and a bloody good phone.
I hope they do give the 7 as much effort as they do with the pro or they may see sales drop.

I'm deeply concerned about this. I bought this device in day one thinking it would be a success, a lot of people talking about it... but no. I can't even find a decent english review video about it. No big youtuber is talking about it and the forums seems dead...

[Q] CYANOGENMOD support..for how long?

when they introduced the OPO, I dont remember where it was said, but it was noted the support for CM would be for two years. I could install android vanilla but Id rather not tinker with the phone. so wondering about that.
I havent purchased the phone as they are back to the stupid invite after having a free to the public open purchase they had two weeks ago. this isnt exactly such an enticing phone as it was.
I think the phone is becoming a dinasour a bit and no longer the great deal it was as phones are already pushing QHD. im considering waiting a bit more or getting some other Chinese mfr phone for about the same price. not oppo or OPO though.
what chinese phones are alternatives to the OPO with specs and price?
hows the meizu MX4 PRO?
This phone is still a beast, it's still a monster. And only you can decide which device to buy, asking such a question will only lead to multiple conflicting opinions and you'll be left in the same position (having to make the decision yourself).

Specs wise, this phone is only a generation behind. Everything else is top notch. QHD is more of a marketing gimmick because in general use, nobody is going to really bother about the extra pixel density (it's barely noticeable to the human eye anyway!) But yeah, you have to decide what you want. CM will continue support.

Defining a phone such OPO a dinosaur is quite an exaggeration IMHO...
That said, if you're are worried about official updates there's only a choice and isn't as affordable as One Plus & co : Nexus.
Meizu Mx4 pro looks good though, but I'm a bit worried about FlymeOS. I've seen it running on mx4 and seemed to me a bit too rough on the edges.

If you can wait another half an year, you can buy even oneplus 2 or xiaomi mi5. But right now this moment, I feel oneplus one and mi4 are cost worthy phones with awesome dev support. Other phones like meizu dont have that good dev support ever even if its cheap..
Oneplus and mi4 arent latest tech but is no different from expensive phones like nexus 6. You can do the same work in oneplus too and it's half the price with better quality.

How has the OnePlus One experience been?

I was waiting and hoping for something intresting to come out at MWC but nothing...
Im on the 50/50 boat on getting the OnePlus One
On one side, great hardware, good price, there is a decent amount of development on XDA, etc.
But just their forums are HORRIBLE (its like going back to kindergarden) but more important than that I still hear horrible stories about their customer support (or lack of). I thought it was getting better but I read somone had to wait 17 days from when they started a issue to get their phone repaired. He wasted 2-3 days convincing OnePlus that his hardware had a problem!
Also there is the issue of the "OnePlus Two" coming out. Obviously, even if it is more expensive, If I knew the OnePlus Two was coming shortly, I would wait it out and get that phone instead of this one. You can expect at least a tease from Sony/Samsung/Microsoft/HTC/etc. with their next phone but no idea from OnePlus.
I wanted to know good/bad/misc stories about the company and the product.
I have till Tuesday to decide which is when they sell their phone again.
If I didn't have 1+1 already, I'd buy it right now. One plus two is rumored to come out in Q2/Q3 of 2015 with oxygen os preinstalled (most likely). If one plus manages to resolve this new OS bugs and if the phone is phenomenal, then I'd sell 1+1 and go for one plus two.
The oneplus forum is a mess, but I feel like all the development is mostly happening on XDA/google+ community groups and most people repost these developments to the one plus forum.
The big headache is if you shatter/drop the phone screen or water damage etc. Their customer service is terrible and it will take a long long time before you get a response from them. Same thing goes for a defective unit and if you try to RMA it.
I received my 1+1 last year in November and am very happy with it. I don't have any of the above mentioned issues and have been running CM12 nightlies since the past two months with great battery life.
There's a review thread here, have a read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2685348
Stay away from the OnePlus forums, you're right, it's like kindergarten, it's a circus of stupidity. My experience with this phone has been overwhelmingly positive, I have two (one for my partner). You'll see people complaining about things going wrong but most of the time it's their own fault because they did something to the phone without actually knowing what they were doing.
The phone is great. The hardware is fantastic, it's a real beast. The CM software is much freer than any other OEM software but it's not without the occasional bug. That shouldn't really matter too much though because this dev community is really active and we have some great ROMs available.
The OnePlus Two might be coming out, or it might not be. One thing is for sure though, it won't be anywhere near as cheap as the One.

For the price it is still the best thing you can get. CM12 right away and you will be fine.

Hard choice

Hello!
Now I have s3 mini and I want to buy a new one. S3 mini was a great phone, especially with cm12, but I find it too slow and screen size is not enough for me. After reading through forums and reviews, watching videos and other stuff, I have found 2 great phones for me. One Plus One or Zenfone 2. And here is the problem, should I buy OPO or wait for Two? Or should I choose Asus?
Do you really want to rely on the opinions of compete strangers (who may or may not know what they're talking about, who may or may not be biased) to decide how to spend hundreds of dollars? I really don't understand these kinds of threads.

This phone is great, buy it. Reasons? It's cheap. The OnePlus Two won't be cheap. The Zenfone doesn't have anywhere near as good a development community.

Thanks for your opinion.
Have used the nexus 6, note 4, but my word, the oneplus is the best. It's cheaper, good dev support and for me most importantly the phone has the best signal strength of all the phones I have ever used.
I've been eyeing the zenfone two for a while now but sadly the Intel chipset it's running on isn't gaining much traction at the moment. And although people are praising Asus' zenui interface for Android, I'd still rather have options. Meanwhile, the OPO has basically everything you need. No reason to jump headfirst into zenfone land at the moment just to discover it's actually a desert. Not when the OPO community is thriving.

The opo is a great phone, make no mistake. If you have none of the known issues, it's really great. Plenty of power all around, it's how android should happen in any device. Battery for 2 or 3 days with regular to slightly heavy use. Probably a bit too big, but that's personal taste.
But it has the potential for underlying problems that may or may not happen. Case in point, screen touch issues. People report starting to have touch issues out of nowhere and it's a toss up on whatever is really causing it. I've rma'd mine 1 month after getting it almost an year ago, opo said it was hardware, new one came with the same problem, got fixed with a software update (38r I think). At this point, running a cm12 nightly, got even better, it's 99.9% trouble free (I get a random swipe like once a week, totally neglectable). That said, there's always people around the forum complaining their phone started acting out of nowhere. Pretty sure there's many more that don't have any problems we don't hear about, so consider that too.
Don't know the zenphone2. But honestly, I'd probably go for an LG g3 at this point, it's a phone that's kind of cheap to get (especially if you give the time to find a used one in great condition), nearly the same price point as opo, liked how it works, probably much faster support than opo. Don't read that as better support, there's plenty of people complaining about that, apart from taking nearly 2 months to complete the whole process, I had no issues with them with the rma.
If I'd be looking for anything more expensive I'd be looking into a Sony z3 (compact or regular) or wait for the z4 around the corner. Not much advertised, but Sony has brilliant but a bit on the expensive side phones.
Obligartory statement, I will not give money to samsung for anything mobile ever again.

Gotta be ready to play with your phone a bit. Almost everyone on the forums aren't running plain stock, good community will help you with your phone as everyone is trying to help and solve problems.
Can't get a phone at the price range like this.

Is the development good or dying?

The title.
I am going to buy this phone soon.
Edit. I will skip this phone and get myself a redmi note 7 once it is released globally.(or a poco f1, once the software bugs are fixed.)
Android Pie is coming, sooo
Good development, ****ty community.

Atleast for me, forum seems to be full of people spamming, asking same questions over and over again, not using search. Also crying non stop about everything, having bought the phone for 150usd, and expecting it to be better than say Pixel for 1000usd. I also agree that community is bad. But development is good, a lot of custom roms, been using Pie rom Pixel Experience, runs like stock, no bugs, great performance and battery life. But if i were you, i would wait for redmi note 7.. much nicer design, a bit better soc, and probably better camera. And its gonna cost basically the same, well maybe 10euros more. Its not really logical buying redmi note 5 at this time, when you have newer devices for the same price. Even redmi note 6 costs the same and is newer, but the only upgrade on it is notched screen. RN7 is a real upgrade tho
Ive been on xda forums since 2008 or so, and i would usually buy flagship devices for a ****load of money, and community was always nice. My last 2 devices, were cheap ones from china, leeco le pro 3 and RN5, and in both cases community was way worse.. So i came to conclusion, the cheaper the device is, the ****tier the community is.

And don't forget: In this community we have like 5-6 type of people:
- The PUBG user: how's the pubg gameplay plz anyone?
- The SOT lover: I have bad SOT plz dev fix asap
- The random reporter: I have X bug plz dev fix it see the screenshot
- The updates guy: Next update when plz?
- The normal user: we all know them.

Well, in my experience the worst community was with my old S7 edge, that was... my god, a little example: random people building kernels/roms full of bugs and crap, and stupid users paying to be able to use them.

I noticed that most of the people who are on xda are mostly indians. No offence to them but they are extremely dumb (not all of them, only the ones who ask retarded questions about this and that.). I can wait for note 7 however the 48mp camera is a gimmick.

Its not a gimmick. Its a really good sensor from samsung, and it uses pixel bining technology. Combining 4pixels into 1, resulting in waaayyy bigger pixels and way more light coming in, resulting in good quality 12mpx photos. RN7 is a midrange device for a budget phone price. You cant get sd660 with all the other goodies for this price anywhere else.

Interesting. I can go with this phone but the glass back, not my cup of tea.
Yes it can be replaceable, but why add a glass back if your phone has no wireless charging?
Also i found a discount on a note 5 pro in my store for just 100 bucks. It expires on 17 january. So what should i do? Buy it or wait?

Because design wise it looks much more premium than aluminium. Also they follow design line of other xiaomi phones. They released mi 8 series with glass back, and if you look at mi 8 light, youll see its the same design as RN7. So, you get new, modern design, and design wise it didnt cost xiaomi anything, because research and development was already done on mi 8 series. If they released another metal phone, looking just like RN5, people would be crying non stop.. They already were crying, because RN4, RN5, RN6 had basically same design..

Well, 100usd is a joke of a price. For this hardware, its a bargain. If you dont need that extra 10% performance, better low light photos and more modern design, go for it. You wont find rn7 for 100usd thats for sure.

Alright. I will look and see what i will buy.
The Redmi note 7 seems once again to be a very good phone for the price.
I am very happy with the RN5, updates are regular and I don't matter about dumb people who are always complaining about nothing. I'm not ready to change because I hope Android pie update as announced on the forum ( perhaps increasing photo and video mode) , but I am a bit afraid to loose call recording feature which is a very important functionality for me. As far I know, Android 9 doesn't allow it andI hope it will be still there thanks to Miui.
This is my first Xiaomi and I'm really impressed by the great quality of this smartphone.

What is cheaper and as descent as a oneplus 7 pro

I currently have a note 9, I'm shopping for a new, I like the oneplus 7 pro, but a lil pricey. What is cheaper and descent as far as specs?. I'm not a samsung fan. I want something that's somewhat easy to root if I choose, takes descent pictures and has a lot of memory lasting charge and unlocked for verizon or straighttalk. Please give me some ideas, I've looked at mororlas, the oneplus,
I've had a moto x pure and google nexus 6 that I loved, but that was years ago and theyr outdated ?
Please and thank you
1. Find a budget and stay on the righteous path.
2. Find something that meets your requirements. Ram, GPU, Chipset, Dual Sim, 5G, maximum running hours on optimal level.
3. Read as much as possible today about each device you're interested in.
4. Read and watch more reviews. Don't just focus on the thought of dispute and or trend.
5. Do you plan to modify the device. If the answer is yes, you must acknowledge the downfalls of rooting. If the answer is no, don't kid yourself.
There's much to be considered. Everyone has a different light head to what is In your taste, so to speak..
So when you asked the question of what's next. Keep in mind all the pro's and con's of both existing device and your new baby.
Do everything impulsively, do nothing impulsively, either way remain calm.
*Baby is a euphemism*
Also I believe this part is the most important of anything listed above.
We learn from others, we learn from our mistakes.
