I'm hoping someone with a pixel 3a on sprint can help. When I am in airplane mode with wifi calling on, I am draining battery under "mobile network standby". This is an issue since I live in a poor cell area. I downloaded the GSAM app and it shows that the phone is searching for a phone signal when airplane mode/wifi calling is on. I talked to google and they said the phone should be replaced, but I don't really want to get it replaced because the phone is great other than this issue and I already have a screen protector on it.
I am still wondering if this may just be how Sprint wifi calling works with the Pixel 3a. Can anyone else try the above test on GSAM and let me know if they are having similar results with the phone searching phone signal in airplane mode with wifi calling on?

Sorry I am on AT&T not Sprint but just a thought, have you tried turning off Developer Options > Networking > Mobile Network Always Active ?
Edit: this probably won't work with Airplane Mode active, but it's worth a quick test.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I already have this set as off, so no luck there.
Even though you are on AT&T and not Sprint, if you have some free time and don't mind trying out the test, let me know if your phone is different than mine. I'm not sure if its just my phone specifically, if its a Sprint issue, or its a pixel 3a across the board issue.

Here ya go. Not sure if 2hrs is enough time for the test, but this is what I have.
Also I too live in a poor reception area and use wifi calling heavily. I keep my data and voice on and just have wifi calling toggled on all the time. I get incredible battery life.

Thanks, I really appreciate you doing that! Interesting, the app also shows your phone radio being on in airplane mode, with a % of battery drain, albeit small. I'm now thinking this may be a universal issue with the phone. I bet that if you put your phone in airplane mode with wifi on but wifi-calling off, your phone radio on GSAM would be zero (not be active).
Happy to help ??
That app is cool too. I might have to keep that one. ?

Absolutely, you should also give it full access through ADB, so "app usage" shows all of your apps instead of just lumping them into one bucket.
Perfect.

My wifi connection is not very stable. Keeps on disconnecting.
I heard this is a known problem for theb g2x. Are any of u experiencing this issue? And or know how to fix this?
Is tmobile gonna do an update fix for this?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I've experienced wifi issues myself. Wifi was working flawlessly the first week i had the phone but now it seems as though it does not want to connect to any network -__- it just says 'error'
Not sure if i had something to do with it acting up, maybe i downloaded an app that caused it to act up.. idk
No definite word if the upcoming gb update will fix this issue but i sure hope it will!
sometimes simply rebooting your router can fix this. of all the wifi threads i've seen, i never saw anyone mention this. but like i said, it will sometimes fix it.
After leaving my phone idle for 15+ minutes, I'll lose wifi. Simple fix is to disable/enable wifi. LG knows of this problem and will release a fix on the next update. http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards/general/lg/topics/g2x-wifi-problems
Now others are having a different type of wifi issue where it won't connect at all, I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software issue.
I'm having the exact same issue. Wifi will be connected, then after a period of time the connection gets disabled. It's quite annoying, as I often do not notice it for a while, after I have already gobbled up a bunch of 4G bandwidth.
I fixed this problem with G2xFixWi-Fi from the market.
Just 4 clicks and it is done.
two separate wifi problems with the g2x
it's good that your wifi problem was fixed with the G2xFixWi-Fi app. but that only fixes the dns problem.
there is another wifi problem where if the phone is in idle for a while and you wake it up, you see from the indicators at top there is no wifi icon and that it is trying to connect 4g but doesn't succeed. the 4g icon flashes on briefly and disappears. it keeps on doing this every second until i manually turn off wifi. then it connects to 4g. from what i can deduce, if i don't turn off wifi before putting it in idle, it does this as well after the phone is in idle for a while. i'm not sure how long after the screen switches off that this looping process happens, but give it 2 hours and i feel that the back of the phone is really warm. i'm thinking that it's warm because it is constantly in this loop. this may also be the source of the massive battery drain that some are seeing.
if i manually turn off wifi before putting it in idle, this doesn't happen. so that's my solution for the time being. i heard about using tasker to automote toggling wifi on/off as the screen is on/off. and it seemed to work at first. but after an overnight test, i found out that the phone response time is sluggish and unpredictable, to the point where i had to have perfect timing just to unlock the phone from idle. rebooting the phone didn't resolve the sluggish response problem, but uninstalling tasker did the trick. so now, it's back to manually turning off wifi before putting it in idle.
another solution proposed is to set wifi to never sleep in the settings. the last time i tried it, it didn't work for me. but i'll try it again to see if it'll work this time.
setting wifi to never sleep did not help
nope. i changed my wifi settings to never sleep and the wifi disconnection problem still happens.
When my phone was stock I had problems with Wi-Fi when it was simultaneously trying to run 2G or 4G. Since then I have switched to various ROMs and Wi-Fi is rock solid. I do use Juice Defender which turns it on and off when screen is off and I'm not running a short list of programs like Pandora. It also reliably switches on when I arrive home.
My G2X won't connect to every WiFi network, and there are a few it cannot even find. I was in a cafe the other day and my friend's laptop and Nokia connected to its WiFi network and my G2X could not even find it... (( So, the problem is, some networks it recognizes but does not connect to (it sticks to "obtaining internet IP..." and then disconnects) and some it cannot even recognize. But to most networks it connects no problem (my home included)... What could be the problem? Can anyone help me?

If you have not messed with the ROM and are having this problem - try TMo tech support first, then ask for a replacement if not fixed.
I have had excellent WiFi performance with stock ROM and EB Froyo's and GB (with and without kernels) - WiFi always worked OK. Could be bad unit - it should work!
My wifi has worked flawlessly, but I think it may depend on the router. I recently bought a wifi repeater to use on the other side of my house and when I connect to that, the G2x will disconnect from wifi after about 15 minutes of idle time, like previous posts have said. I switch back to my regular router and it never disconnects.
I have also notice the problem to.

This sounds like normal behavior honestly. What is your wifi sleep policy set to? By default the wifi radio turns off when the screen is turned off and then turns back on when the screen turns on.
G2X CM7
Thanks for responding. I have it set to "when screen turns off." The weird thing is I never noticed it do the little switcheroo before. Also, I have Juice Plotter just for fun and it used to show wifi for most of the night when I'm sleeping and the phone is charging. And now it shows APN during that time. I guess it was messing up before and now it's doing what it's supposed to.
Can you enlighten me on a myth, I heard that the wifi consumes less power than the APN or 4G. Is this true or false?
Thanks again

With a LTE or Wimax phone, I think so. With a phone using hspa+, I don't think so.
Did you try.
Did you set it like I do, WI-FI never sleep. Because where I live
T-MOBIL had no cell service. Well, Very spotty coverage.
Also check how many people in you're neighborhood are on your same channel. And change yours.
Look in mark there's a free APP that's a WI-FI analyzer.
And change to one

My wifi is acting weird. It does a loop whenever i have a WPA/WPA2 settings on my home wifi but works when i have it disabled. :S It was alright with stock froyo and stock GB i uploaded from LG. then i flashed Xboarders OTA 1.2.2 GB and this happens.
Can any1 give an insight how to fix this ? =(
im having the same problem, i bought the g2x the day it came out (when it had froyo before gingerbread came out) and never had a problem leaving my wifi on 24/7 it wasnt until the update for gingerbread came out that this problem started happening, it really sucks for me since im using my g2x as an AT&T phone for now all i get is 2g speeds
---------- Post added at 04:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:35 AM ----------
also something i tried and worked was turn wifi off, turn off your phone and turn it back on then go to menu>settings> wireless & network>wi-fi settings>check connect to wifi and check connect to wifi that worked for me (holding the phone in landscape mode (horizontally) ) i add that in because one time i was turing the wifi on in that order it didnt work i dropped my phone and picked it back up in landscape mode and wifi was connected. im not sure if anything i said helped anyone at all but hope i didnt waste anyones time
I've purchased both Juice Defender and Green Power, and though I've gotten better battery life when I use the respective apps, they both suffer from the same problem. When the lockscreen is on for an extended period of time, the mobile network will not refresh. The only way to get 3G or 4G back is to restart the phone.
Some have said that toggling airplane mode will fix the problem, but that causes one of two things to happen for me: 1) the entire cell network shuts off and the mobile network remains dormant 2) the only way to fix the mobile network is to keep airplane mode ON (which makes zero sense, since airplane mode should shut down all networks).
The latest version of Green Power supposedly fixed the api mobile networks switch, but I don't see any change. This problem has been mentioned for more than a year in various forums, but it never seems to get fixed. Without being able to auto-toggle the mobile networks, these apps are materially worthless.
Does anyone have a solution?

well until they figure out how to control it on our 4G phones Im not sure...If had JD work for moments while on 4G only...then it wont re engage if it needs to switch to a 3G mode...I then tried it forced to 3G only and same sometimes it does and other times it doesnt..eventually it will get fixed Im sure...but in the mean time just use either for wifi control only or go straight manual control
It's a shame this doesn't work yet. I found it made all the difference in the world for battery power on my fascinate. Mainly because I work in a building with poor reception. JD made the issue moot.
Now I have to remember to turn data off and on as needed throughout the day. If I forget, my battery's dead in 8 hours. If I remember, I can get 20+ hours out of it. No wifi option at work, btw.
Even better would be if this could be tweaked in the kernel somehow. I understand not all phones suffer this battery drain with a weak signal. Wonder what the difference is.

I wonder why juice defender and green power both screw up airplane mode. My phone's settings say airplane mode is off, but the toggle switch says it's on and it turns off my cell signal. I can't figure out how to get airplane mode to completely shut off without restarting. The fact that both Juice Defender and Green Power have the same issue controlling the mobile network leads me to believe it's an OS issue, not an app issue. If this is the case, we're not likely to see a fix anytime in the near future.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Bump. Does anyone have a fix yet?
I think this issue could possibly go deeper than this. Over the last two days, I have had issues with going from full bars in a known coverage area to Searching for Service. Eventually, it will reconnect to the network, but mobile data never comes back. It seems to be worse when I have GPS toggled on, but I can't seem to single out the root cause. I don't use JD or Green Power or any other "battery saver" so something deeper is going on I believe. It's worth exploring anyway and I thought it may help track down a solution.
I recently switched over to CM9 Alpha 5 and I'm loving everything about the ROM except for battery life. I'm actually getting worse battery life than stock, and I know why.
On stock MT4GS, when wifi calling was enabled, 3g data as well as the cellular radio would be disabled. I use wifi calling because at my house, and at my work, I get no signal. Since switching to CM9, I am seeing that the cellular radio is running at all times, even though I'm in wifi calling mode 80% of the time. Battery stats is listing the phone as having no signal 78% of the time, which is pretty accurate. As we all know, the cell searching for a signal is murder on the battery.
I've tried airplane mode, which allowed me to disable the cell radio and data, as well as turn wifi back on, but for no dang good reason, wifi calling complains that it becomes disabled when airplane mode is on, even if wifi is running and connected.
I took a look at juicedefender, but this doesn't give me the option to turn off the cellular radio, only to turn off mobile data, which I can already do.
Is there any app or method that can be used to disable the cellular radio altogether, but still allow me to use my wifi calling?
I know T-mobile needs to be able to see you phone is still active to use WiFi calling. Disabling the Radio might block T-mobile from seeing you have active service.
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk 2
I use it from inside a basement in an area where I get 0 bars when walking outside. Plus, it's gotta be connecting to t-mobile somehow when using it, so that it can connect up to the t-mobile voice service. Plus, battery life was better before for the very reason that it wasn't constantly trying to search for signal when I was on Wifi calling mode
Check this thread:

Use the code for testing menu.
Pretty sure I remember there being an option to turn the radio off in there.
Worth looking into.

I just started playing with my wife's new idol 3 phone. everything is great so far with the exception of when wifi is turned on I noticed that cellular signal turns off and on sporadically. When wifi is off, the cellular signal never drops.
Updated!!!!!! ALCATEL THANKS!!!
The WiFi and Cellular signal issue is gone!! New update is great.
I have not noticed that. I leave my Wi-Fi on and connects when home without issue. I've check cell signal levels regularly on new phones. My first impression with this phone is that the cell reception is excellent.

I've noticed that a couple times as well. I assumed it was my SIM card as I changed carriers the same time I got this phone. It's not a deal breaker for me as I actually don't use the phone for calls much anyway. But yeah, it needs to be fixed. Just waiting for the next update.
Great, i thought maybe it was her phone in particular. I mean, I accepted the current update thinking that would solve the issue, but it didn't. Same story.....when wifi is on, the cellular signal turns off, on, off, on....maybe within 5 second intervals. Im shocked many people haven't complained about this.
if it wasn't for your response I was going to return the phone back to Amazon and exchange it for another one.
other than that I think the phone is excellent for the money and since my wife really isn't into development and rooting, for her this is the perfect replacement for her defective S4. however I would still like to be able to install a custom recovery at least.
My issue isn't anywhere near as bad as yours I would say. If yours is turning on and off a lot them you may want to replace it. I notice mine turns off once a day for a few seconds but I'm sure it does it more and I just don't see it.

I've used my phone to tether a few times and noticed the cell signal drops now and again....there is an app but I can't remember the name..something like "connection stabalizer" that toggles airplane mode on and off when it detects a dead connection....it might do the trick.

I have never experienced this either. Have you tried a factory reset yet? I may try that in a couple of days and see what that does for me.
Well see, before i took the latest update the problem existed.........then, after the latest update the issue still exists. So i don't think a factory reset will do it but i will before i actually mail it out.
I reset the phopne and installed a mobile network detect app that notifies me when the signal drops. we'll see what happens.
I have no job so I have the time to blow
I am having the same problem. I am losing the signal repeatedly. It goes to no service then comes on to two or three bars even when I am in the exact same location.
So far so good. 6 hours later and no signal loss yet. On another note, the reset fixed an issue I forgot to mention. when downloading from the play store the download would start and immediately get stuck at 66kb. I would have to start and stop the download two to five times before the app actually downloaded. I just finished installing all my apps without an issue.

Mostly. Wi-Fi was off about 6 hours while I was sleeping. I'm using Network Signal Info Pro to tell me when I lose signal. I know it works cuz I turn on airplane mode and it notified me. I carry the phone around the house so I don't miss a notification. So far in 33 hours still no signal loss.
I live in Boston metro area with abundant LTE/5G coverage, but drive through two nearly dead zones, each of them lasts just a few seconds. My previous phone would not stop YouTube playback going through those areas. My Pixel 7 Pro loses connection for ~5 minutes completely and then reconnects via EDGE even though strong 5G is available. I have to toggle the airplane mode for it to connect to the correct network.
I'm on Mint/T-Mobile and this has been happening every day. Is it a software bug or is my Pixel defective? Thanks for any ideas, I still have a week to decide if I should return it
I used to have this same exact issue with my pixel 6 pro and wouldn't be fixed no matter what I did. I traded it in for my p7p and haven't had that issue since. You should replace it while you can and hopefully it won't happen again
I have the same problem. Whenever there's a slight interruption of service the Pixel can't reconnect for minutes. I have to enable and disable airplane mode a couple times.
Bonus, if I just leave it it disconnects from the network randomly. I miss A LOT of calls. And people tell me that the calls take a long time to connect either way.
I'll be returning it if it doesn't get an update in a week or so.

I don't know if this will help, but...
I believe EDGE uses 2G. Maybe turn off "Allow 2G" in Settings>Network & internet>Sims>Allow 2G. Hopefully this will stop it from connecting to EDGE and instead connect back to your strong 5G or LTE.
Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
It still takes a long time before it connects to the 2G network and all I see is an exclamation mark next to zero bars.
If you have taken the .031 update, which fixed that issue for me, then it's possible you may have a defective unit. I have had zero issues with signal handoff and I'm even taxing the modem even more by running dual SIM in DSDS mode. I have been incredibly happy with this device's reception. I would even say it's been better than my OnePlus 9 with the X60 modem as 5G standby drained my battery super fast, about 1.6%/hr in a high signal area, compared to half that on my 7 Pro with dual SIM active.
The system is up to date. Not sure what else I can do. I'm not interested in installing unstable nightly updates.

I'm on the beta as well and still having no connectivity problems so I guess I should consider myself lucky. The worst I have is some outsized drain when I have a weak signal but it's still not terrible (about 2.2%/hr in my partner's basement).

This issue happens to me from time to time too. Weird but mine shipped with .031 (picked up on 10/21 at best buy). But I guess it was worse before that.
Were you able to fix this? I have the same issue, the phone is just unusable. Such a shame as I really like the device...
I came from a OnePlus 8 Pro (what a great phone BTW), and found the Pixel 6 Pro had worse connectivity. The Pixel 7 Pro seems to have fixed all that and some bluetooth issues I was having with certain headsets on the Pixel 6 Pro.
One trick on any modern 5G phone -- if you are having issues -- the switching between 5G, 5G UC, and LTE can be disruptive. If this is constantly happening just switch it to LTE, chances are you'll get better reception and at the same or even faster speeds.
For example, a Six Flags a few weeks ago, 5G was constant problems while forcing LTE worked fine 100% of the time.
I've tried switching off 5g, switching off 2g, switched off adaptive connectivity...no results, still useless

How about your APN settings? Have you tried a network reset? If none of those things helps you may have a defective phone! It can happen with any brand.

Yes, tried resetting the APN as well, also swapped esim and sim to another phone and works flawlessly...it may be a defective unit but there are many users complaining so there has to be a lot of defective units...

Well, I am not using an esim with a psim. Only a psim here and running on Mint (T-Mobile) and I have zero issues. Either some setting, or conflicting network settings between the two sims...OR a defective phone is your issue. I would bet dimes-to-dollars that it is NOT the phone. YMMV
Hmm happy to see i am not alone...... I have already post on this forum for this same pb.
I am full 4G....i try to make a call, instantly when i push call button, lose connection....must wait and maybe 4G and more in EDGE.
When i am in 4G impossible to call or receive....
So i have a phone with impossible to call or receive.......
SO NICE ????
For me, i am sure is the last F/W (31) who suck.
Why ?
Because, my phone work, after upate (31) just after reboot must wait 7 min to have network...never before....
SO last week end, i will downgrade to first F/W (A2)
Problem is solved for me.
I have locked all automatic update in developper menu.
Sometimes i have notification for update, but i don't care..........
Incredible but work for me, i think you must try...i don't see another solution for this ****ing problem
I had use the official tool : https://flash.android.com/
Sounds like a work around, how do you downgrade?
