What is THE best audio quality mod? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

As per the title, really.
I have been pretty unhappy with the audio quality of the phone, specially when playing Spotify via Android Auto in the car.
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a module and/or settings that can fix this?
My OnePlus 6 sounded way better under the same conditions - In comparison, the 7 Pro has overpowered and muddy bass, low mid-range and without details and a garbled high frequencies, almost like phased or wrong bitrate of playing.
Mind you, this is with Spotify Premium and set to maximum quality.

I really like Viper for audio (can install via magisk) but over Bluetooth, at max volume it clips heavily with bassy tracks if you have any kind of eq on bass. I remember having the problem with my OP5 and it being fixed with lineage os, but I like stock OOS so I don't want to move right now. If you can find a working dolby atmos install for android 9,thats good too.

Errrr??? The OnePlus 7 Pro has "Dolby Atmos" out of the box, but it sounds like crap.... Don't believe things are what they are just because someone puts a label on it

Not full dolby atmos I'm talking about the one with full custom eq support that the razer phone has. Not the crappy one included.
Intelligent eq off, and using the custom eq. No clipping, great sound.

Where did you find your dolby atmos and how did you install?

Just one note - I feel that as long as it is not possible to disable/bypass the built-in Dolby Atmos processing, nothing that is flashed is going to make things better.
OnePlus needs to give us the ability to tweak audio settings or at least bypass that horrid processing they have going on.
The highs in particular sound like a heavily compressed .mp2 (no, not a typo) from the 90's with a 112kbps bit rate.
No idea what is going on with this sound but for many years I did not have a phone that sounded this bad.

I wish they would. They could give us that version of the app (you can install apks, but they crash on open) with an update, I just don't think they will!

Doesn't this turn off the processing?

This rom has a working Dolby Digital Plus that bypasses the stock Dolby on the phone: https://forum.xda-developers.com/one...-v1-0-t3935670.
I'm using now.

No it not. To disable all dolby you need root to do that.

Tried that before posting - doesn't work. The settings APK force-closes/hangs when you start it

VIPER4Android is great
install VIPER4Android_2.7.1.0-Magisk_Module.zip as magisk module (once rebooted open app and it will ask for root and install driver and reboot)
unzip ViPER4Android_Profiles.zip and move VIPER4Android folder to root of SDCard
download

Viper4android has been great for me as well. I asnt able to install it via magisk though, had to install from twrp.
I have noticed that the audio quality is different from the 6t. Not necessarily worse, just different. The highs do sound generally more compressed on the 7 pro vs 6t. As a result, my 7 pro Viper settings are markedly different from the 6t

Q&A
Q. I'm using ES explorer and getting a bad zip error.
A. Make sure you are not using a 3rd party downloader to download the file. Download through the browser, or the file will be corrupt
Q. Where do I put the profile folder?
A. Extract the folder to <storage>/ViPER4Android/profile/
Q. Where do I put the IRS folder?
A. Extract the folder to <storage>/ViPER4Android/Kernel/
Q. Why am I not noticing much or any difference between the profiles?
A. Make sure to turn Viper on and off when switching profiles. If you still don't notice any difference, restart Viper
Q. What is IRS?
A. When an IRS is loaded, V4A will process the sound to show the same exact characteristics as the loaded sample. Through Convolution, samples with effects such as equalizer, surround, reverberation, tube etc can be simulated or in short, “copied”. More info can be found here
Q. Where can I find more IRS files?
A. Some of the most well known can be found here
Q. I have a suggestion for a new profile. Where do I send it?
A. You can post it in this thread. I'll see it
Q. I made a headset specific profile based off of one of these profiles. Where can I post it?
A. You can post it here, and I'll add it to a community profile section. You will be credited for your contribution
Why NWA?
New Wave Audio (aka NWA) is actually my name over on head-fi. To me the meaning of new wave is being unique. That is the same ideal I wanted to incorporate with this project. Us as human beings are unique, and we should embrace that. Just as everyone's listening styles are unique. This is the reason I aim to create a plethora of different profiles, so you can obtain a unique listening experience that can be found nowhere else.

yes, i remember i used viper4android or something similar.
A workaround could be to edit notification sound and decrease volume by 5db , saving to a new sound

You could manually edit build prop, but I couldn't direct you to what line exactly.
Thanks for all the advise! I was hoping it was a OP6 problem because all my sounds are very loud.
I have the same problem with the notification sounds. After the 5.1.6 update they don't seem to be affected by any of the volume controls.
My op6 is not loud. How make you louder?
for me 5.1.7 did not fix it...
All of the sounds are very loud because on 5.1.5 everyone was complaining that the sounds were too low. So OnePlus pushed up the volume. You can go on to the OnePlus Community forums if you want to read all the complaints about how low the sound was
The problem was people complaining it was too low. For me personally, the audio was just fine. never missed a call or any notification at all, anyway...everybody had to complain. So now ONEPLUS boosted up the levels to a point you can hear your phone ringing across the building in minimum level.
Funny thing is: I have to use an app to decrease screen brightness to lower levels than minimum at night, and i have to use another app/kernel to decrease the sound to minimum levels too. lol. I love this phone with all my heart, but i hate having to hack 2 basic settings

I cannot use xpose because of some reasons so I have to wait for inbuilt feature or should use custom ROM.

[OSP] PA-CEQ - Community Equalizer for Poweramp and more.

Before I start, this is not a app for Poweramp. This is a equalizer value for the app.
Credit for PA-CEQ
@San_X for the Balanced Settings back in 2014 concept linked here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674303.
JohnRTitor for testing PA-CEQ 3.0.
PA-CEQ or Poweramp Community Equalizer is a community driven equalizer for Poweramp, Poweramp Equalizer (not a app) and other devices which that improves audio fidelity of songs.
I am aware that this has been posted 5 years ago on the XDA forums. I actually used that preset before making PA-CEQ but felt something off about it. PA-CEQ is actually based on the same preset with some changes made to it.
How do you install PA-CEQ?
1. Go to Releases linked on Github and download the latest PA-CEQ.zip file in there. Select the version of PA-CEQ to use, choose either the Normal or Apple DAC option and copy the equalizer prefix to Poweramp/your device.
2. Copy the values within the screenshot to Poweramp or your device or import the equalizer file inside the For Poweramp Equalizer folder to Poweramp Equalizer.
Reserved for any needed added info. Not a bump.
For anyone wanting to compare or find a estimate equalizer to San_X's settings, here is a link to it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CQmyyIsFs6ax9ba0FMYMqdh4kgziSIdP/view?usp=drivesdk

There is a bass mode option which is based off the old preset by the original dev I think on Github, else I can maybe see it? I normally don't use bass on music myself since I feel it ruins the original punch but at min you can do like 45% Bass manualy?

Yeah I should have originally posted the screenshots here with a loaded preset 2nd. I think I might have to update how it plays a bit since some devices have a bit of issues with high low frequencies in BT like cars or Apple's Dongle DAC. I do have a preset set for that one soon though.

Thank you for this. Sound output improves a lot. Also there's a slight difference regarding "Hi-Res Output 16 BIT 48 KHZ" mine say "Hi-Res Output 24 bit 192 khz"? Is it correct or not? Thank you

PA-CEQ 2.0 Release
PA-CEQ 2.0 is released after months. Decided to test the prefix more and sounds a bit of a improvement to PA-CEQ 1. Looking for feedback on this since this is new and more different from the original.

Hi-Res bitrate and hertz don't matter but it is suggested for music to stay at 44.1kHz. Sorry for a long response. Been so busy in life. Try just using the preset bars in the screenshots than the .poweramp-settings file or try PA-CEQ 2 for some experimentation
Released PA-CEQ 2.1 now.
I used the 31 band preset to calibrate the standard 10 band preset that normally anyone uses for their devices and is a tad improved on 2.0 with fixed bass/vocals. https://github.com/GanstaKingofSA/PA-CEQ/releases/tag/2.1
PA-CEQ 3.0 is now released with a massive improvement to the dB preset and support for Parametric EQ, includes a Poweramp Equalizer Import File, and less gain aggressiveness as the last few revisions. This also should get rid of audio distortion that was present in the past revisions of PA-CEQ. If you wanna learn more or want to try it out, you may do so by going here: https://github.com/GanstaKingofSA/PA-CEQ/releases/tag/3.0
I highly recommend all using PA-CEQ to try it and those that haven't or have but didn't like the last few to try it out and see for yourself.

Viper4Android FX Working

The latest version of Viper4Android FX is working from the magisk repo. I installed these 2 modules
Viper4Android FX v2.7.2.1
Audio Modification Library v4.0
And before rebooting went into Viper and hit Ok and the phone rebooted. after booting it didn't work so I had to go to settings and turn on legacy mode. It's now working with phone speaker across multiple reboots but I haven't tested bluetooth yet. It should work, if not the module Audio compatibility might fix it.
It likes to turn off a lot forcing you to restart your music app and v4a. It's kind of annoying
Aside from the crashing issues, does it help solve the horrible dsp config that Google puts on the P5 from the factory? I hate that ugly bass thump sound it makes. It's just like an iPhone.
James DSP FTW.
I havent had it stopped for me once and works for bluetooth as well.

Convolver was on by mistake .
On phone speaker I use only FIR equalizer (V shaped custom set), both in car (BT) and airpods (BT) I use only 1. FIR equalizer ( V shaped custom set), 2. Spectrum extension (10%) and 3. ViPER Clarity (Natural, 8db).
Rather simple, but daaaamn it sounds so much better :good::good::good:!
I don't find the Bose QC35II DDC so..

Hey guys,
Do any of you have the problem with Viper being enabled but not processing? (See screenshot)
Restarting the phone and starting the app manually seems to work, but after a while the problem returns.

I have the same issue, sometimes it will survive a reboot, but most times it does not. I just made it a habit to go into options and flip legacy mode off then back on everyday, and it starts processing again.
Hopefully we find a better solution.
Strange.. i have follow exactly instructions from jemeljsh and no issues After.
Try to uninstall and reinstall. Maybe ?

In my case it's louder enough, there is even an option that is suitable for noise places, that gets even louder although it sacrifice bass...

JamesDSP works great on Pixel 7 Pro. A very good step up in audio quality and volume boost once you find the right combo of settings and Mod files.

I installed it. The sound quality does not change. No matter what settings you press, there is no effect.
I came from a s21 ultra and the speaker sound is not good as the samsung device. Seems to be loud at the max but the level seems to be bugged. At the medium level is very hard listen good the sound. Someone know how to fix it? I have a 7pro.

Are you sure you installed the latest version?
Do you have another audio module?
The change is very noticeable...

No, it doesn't have an app. You get 100 precise volume steps. At 50 steps volume gets really loud and at about 70 steps extremely loud.
You can also use this app instead of audio misc but it may not work with bluetooth headphones https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodev.volume.booster

Can you boot into safe mode and uninstall or disable it? Hopefully don't have to wipe over your phone over this.

So this one will make the phone louder and more clear? That's all I needed from v4a. After I did that I never messed with settings.

I wish I could find a guide to Calibrate JamesDSP. Like when I buy a new TV and I go to rtings.com, etc to find the best calibrations settings for that model of TV.
I don't know what most of the settings are, sadly.

Yeah there are a few I don't touch because I don't know what they do or correct settings. A few I took from using Viper4Android and applied them. It is one of those trial and error deals, not everyone's taste will be the same.
