I saw this on my 6T. The phone shows one storage stat but my widget and Windows PC is showing a different storage stat. Which one is correct and why are these numbers different? I never saw this on any other phone. Knowing exactly how much storage you have on your phone is pretty important to me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
The Rom memory is fragmented in several partitions. windows only sees the one available to store files while the phone takes other partitions into account. Like system partition etc ..

So the available storage that the phone's settings shows it the "true" available storage?

A bit confusing, The phone shows the true capacity of the memory, windows shows what's available for you to use.

yes, once it shows full you wont be able to transfer or download files, but the system keeps running as it has its reserved partition

Well, today I got my new Atrix 2. Great cell phone so far. It's my first Android, yay!
But here is my problem:
1. It came with a 2gb SD Card, working and everything, but when I take pictures they go directly to the SD... Does anybody know how do I change it so they go to the internal memory?
2. Some applications seem to install on both, the internal memory and the SD (like Skype or Whatsapp). Somebody knows why?
3. Does anybody know how to access the internal memory at all when connecting the phone to the PC?
Thanks a lot for your help!
P.S: Please, forgive my noob-ines and Language.

1. Can't...internal storage is for apps only
2. Not too sure that's the case....the way you can tell is go to settings/applications/manage applications and click on the "on sdcard" tab, apps will show up here regardless if they are on the sdcard or not so the way to tell if said app is truly installed on the card is to check for a green checkbox on the right hand side next to said app. The box will be there on all of them, but only the one's that have a green check mark are actually installed on the sdcard.
3. Internal storage is for apps only and is not accessible

i don't think motorola meant it to be that way honestly, since all the specs released specifically say 8gb internal storage, which in the smartphone world means you can use it for storage. however, this isn't the case.
i think that they have their mtd/partition tables setup wrong and it could be fixed with an update. however, no one knows when an update will be coming and what changes it will bring. i think motorola has placed all their focus on the razr. so we get the shaft.

Yeah, that's really bad. It's a very capable cell phone, it shouldn't have as many problems as it has (I read a lot about SD card problems, etc) but you are right, they are focusing more on the Razr (as I read in other websites) which is a bummer...

honestly, it doesn't have that many issues. and i think 1 problem is causing multiple issues.
for example, i think that the partitions are not setup correctly, which is causing:
sd rear/write issues
apps 2 sd issues
sdcard pc mounting issues
internal storage being inaccessible issues
app storage memory low notifications
camera write image to sd issue
these are the major issues, but i think they are all tied to 1 single problem. other issues like the can't stop email sync, i can hear myself in my own earpiece and other non-critical problems are just small bugs that can easily be fixed and lived with until said fix.
most other issues i've read seem to either be account related or just user error

If you read the specs it specifically says
Memory (9)
8gb
The footnote for (9) says
Available user memory varies due to the configuration of the phone, which varies by service provider.
Furthermore
Motorola goes on to say that the device does infact have 8gb internal storage, 4 of it is for downloaded apps, the other 4 is for the OS, Webtop application and the other preloaded apps.
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...71812/~/internal-and-external-memory-(atrix-2)
So if Moto is saying the above, it seems to me they did infact mean for it to be like that. Just trying to clear up the misinfo so you guys aren't raising hell about nothing. But I do understand where you guys are coming from, I completely expected to have 8gb of internal storage as well and I think it's bs for Moto to advertise internal storage space by including the portion of it that's not accessible or useable to us. Agreed 100%.
I need some help with my storage, out of 9.93gb phone storage I have just 881mb left, this is after deleting all of my photos and videos, when I check what is in use I have the following..
Temp files of 183mb, Music of 1.43gb and Gallery of 2.57mb. That's all that is showing, what else is using all of my memory and can I transfer some to the internal storage as I have 1.91gb left available.
how many and how large are the apps you have installed?

Internal storage I have 2.34gb space, apps using 443mb leaving 1.91gb available, on my phone storage I have no apps.
Just gone in to app manager and it show my sd card nearly full, yet it show 38 apps on my phone?? When I click on an app it shows that it is already in internal storage??
Now I am confused..
Try checking disk usage with this app. It should be easy to spot where it's all going.

Hello,
I have an XPERIA U and I'm running out of memory (no SD cart slot). I noticed the storage is partitioned: 2go for app storage and 4go for data (which is full). Is there a way to partition it so I have, let's say 750 mo for apps and the rest for data(music, files, etc).
I have seen a lot of tutorials but everytime, they're intended to be applied on a specific phone. Maybe I'm not using the correct term to designate the "mass storage" partition.
Thank you in advance!

Im thinking you mean 2GB for apps and 4GB for data? You need to clean out your sd card,by repartitioning, backup what you want to keep, but the way it looks right now, theres no way to do that at the moment, try scouring the forums and see if theres an alternative... http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1515
Oh ok...
Is there a way to move big game files (download by the app after the installation) to the app storage?
Edit: I managed to free 1,5gb using DiskUsage (looks like I can't provide external links, 10 post limit)! It provides a really nice diagram of your storages, allowing you to see useless files or big folders

I used my Huawei Honor 6 for more than one year. And it has been no problem before. However, recently it always exits the program automatically or has no response. What’s wrong with it and what should I do? Any help would be appreciated!

its best to clean your phone occasionally to keep it running good.
if you havent done a factory reset ever, or in a long time, i would backup all your data and pics, then do that.
that should fix it, but if it doesnt, you will have to look into re-installing clean stock on it.

Mostly due to the program hog up too much memory, so the program exit automatically so as to release the memory back to the system. You can uninstall some programs or add the SIM card to expand memory.

right, the other guy is just plain wrong. im sure he meant to say sd card, but that will only increase storage, and has nothing to with memory, commonly called ram.

This cant be right surely?
None of the stock apps even add up to 15gb in my app settings. Anyway I can remove some without root? Waiting for twrp before I mess with this phone
My system apps say they're taking up 1.1. Somethings off there. Probably can't remove them without root if they're in /system.

EDIT: The right and wrong info was reported in my post. It's my Z3Play that shows 13 GB. I know it's apple/oranges, but my Pixel 3a shows 1.1 GB. N5X shows 6.4 GB.
Apologies. This can happen when spending too much time involved with another device (MOTO Z3 Play). Being old doesn't help, either ?.

Can you provide a screen cap of what you're seeing? She'd some light on where your system is saying "system apps using up 15Gb." Pie system files can add up to 16 or more GB. I do know LOS pie is about 16Gb for all system files

What happens when you tap "other apps" and use the menu option "show system"? It should sort by highest memory usage first.

I think I see the issue. It seems it is more of a space reporting error. A: it is odd system is only 1.1 GB. Attached is from LOS on a different phone. Most of the apps in your image don't show up for me because your space reporting is showing the files as apps instead of normal system stuff.
same issue here. the numbers don't even add up what is this bull****.
probably gonna return the phone. the breakdown's even more wack
You guys sure about that? I think it's telling you how much space each app is consuming for its data storage, NOT how much room the app itself (APK) occupies.
Apps require storage space beyond the app itself.

If you return your phone over something as petty as this, I can only wonder how many times you've returned iPhones.

Yes, seems it is reporting something. The term storage in the screenshot implies what you state. Honestly, the system partiton is usually 16Gb or larger, so system apps "using 15Gb" could just be the remainder of the /system partiton. Android has to report that data as not user accessible. 1Gb and 15 GB does equal the system partition size of most P smart phones. I haven't bought my 3a yet, but will have one in a month to verify partitions.

Alright so this is interesting -- I just checked out my /system size in Root Explorer, and it's currently at 3.06GB.
Other Apps current size in settings? 18GB. That's 3GB over the 15 everyone sees. So the question is, where the heck is the 15GB coming from?
