Asked Nubia about Software updates and Android Q - Nubia Red Magic 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Told me they can't confirm anything software wise not even Android Q.
Welp there you have it. I replied "I can't confirm my in cart purchase. Software is an integral part of Android".
I learned over the years the extra $100-$200 is worth it for support and software alone.
It's a shame I really wanted this phone, does many things right for the price
Good luck to RM3 buyers and owners

Totally feeling you, but most customer service reps are given scripts that say the same thing. That's kind of a standard response.

Hi,
Got the phone the very day it was released as "Global".
Of course, software updates are a concern.
But less than they were some years ago.
I must say that the "new features" in Android 0 are still quite mysterious to me.
And since the last 3 iterations of Android, I do no feel like some of the new features are real must-have.
They're nice, but I can do without them and won't even notice they're missing
More important are the bug fixes. And I hope they will take care of those as it seems the first try on the Global software is not perfect and has a lot of glitches !
Regards.

Aside from their Facebook page, is there a bug reporting tool of any kind? There's a small community on their website here:

Yes, you can use the internal log collection tool to catch the bug and send to Nubia through email.

Well i also asked them regarding the updates and i got this reply
"Hi,
Could you describe the details ? I don't quite understand what you mean. In addition, we will keep updating and optimizing the phone."
The first part was for an issue.
I will try to ask them regarding android Q

I will honestly be shocked if Android Q is ever released for this phone. :/

This phone received 2 updates in less then 3 months...

[Q] NotionInk Adam info pls

With great pleasure i read today that Notion Ink Adam tablet is available for preorder. i want to ask some questions
1. What operating system it will running? Rumours refer Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is the operating system
2. If the above is true will it support upgrade to Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) when it will be ready?May be is running a custom version of Android or stock one?
3. About 3G does it cover GSM 900,1800 and UMTS 2100?
4. Will google market be available?
The tablet hasn't even passed the FCC. As of now, it doesn't even exist in a form available for consumers. The site also allows you to provide your billing info without providing a shipping address, which should set off a big red scam alert flag in your head.

Thanks for the info my friend.I didnt know that it did not passed FCC.Really now i wonder why they start taking money from people. That's stupid ,not to say more bad words.
I think i must look for alternatives.
Many people like me, who don't search for info before buying something, are easy to get fraud.
Not a scam

I beg to differ with you guys. Its genuine and The pixel Q version of the tabs are already sold out and they showcased this device in CES much before you have had any clues about Galaxy tab or any other for that matter. Between I have visited their office (Bangalore, India) personally 2 days back.
They have launched a developer section too. And if you talk technically then they have managed to solve android app's inability to handle large screens.

Here's the original report, and even though the "billing info without shipping info" has been fixed, it still doesn't change the fact that it hasn't even passed the FCC. I think I'd entrust my money with an actual well-known manufacturer with a product that I can see and touch before I buy.
Why is it that the pessimist is always the first to respond. Whatever. On the FCC issue, I vaguely remember that they did something so that you can't find it but I can't remember where I found that.

Well, when you're dealing with money for a luxury product that has several alternatives it's okay to be pessimistic. Better safe than sorry in a situation like this, no?

Here, have some valuable information:
"We have done something with our FCC application and it will be little difficult for you to find us!"
to answer your questions:
1. It will most likely run on 2.2 at first but "Eden is extremely compatible with 2.3" this implies that they are working on it.
2."This was a big step in converting your Android to a tablet version OS (and one of the updates coming in 3.0)" I'm not sure what this implies, but it might mean we will get 3.0
3.I have no idea, the whole 3g thing is a little confusing
4."Will it support the Google Market place? Or do you have your own market place/App Store that you are developing?
-We will have our own market place."
however, it probably won't take long for the devs to get the market on it.

yeah I totally agree on the fact that it is okay to be pessimistic, but most of what you heard that makes the adam sound shady came from one series of articles on android police. I'm not sure, but I bet that if they tried they could make any company sound shady. Anyway, if Notion ink sounds shady, it's not really their fault, they are extremely inexperienced. It is a company run by 20-something year olds with no business experience straight out of college. They're bound to make some mistakes.

Is this phone dead?

Hi, I know this things about dont ask about eta of new updates, etc. But I have a simple question. Does this device have active community? I see some roms, etc.. (still unusable becouse of softreboots caused by high-gps accuracy), but is there still something in development or is this device dead in this way?
I suppose at some point we'll get at the very least a custom Oreo, however seeing how custom Nougat is still not bugfree, I'd say it's pretty dead at this point.
Plus, for a couple months now there's been too much silence in this forum, which probably animated many people to jump ship.
Really sad to see since the hardware is so good even to this day considering the price. But softwarewise it's worse than anything I've experienced so far. Probably in large amounts thanks to Huawei, just to make that clear
I'm sure the devs around here did their best and I'm thankful there's at least a considerable amount of roms tp choose from.
The great job XDA is doing to advertise for Huawei is also a little annoying at times. I don't know much about software but whatever that "partnership" with Huawei did, it didn't do much for the consumer.
That's it for my rant, had to get it out No more Huawei!
Sent from my HUAWEI FRD-L09 using XDA Labs
The partnership has been good just for XDA itself. For user hasn't changed anything. Don't know if they released or not the source code of the device but if they did is strange that the actual existing rom have important issues. Btw i'm really greatful for developers who attempt to make a good rom for our device, but i prefer staying on stock and hoping for official Android Oreo. If this day won't come, i'll simply take in consideration the bad support from huawei/honor and the almost inexistent community here on xda when buying my next device.
P.s I'll tell this again. I'm very greatful to all the developers who attempt to give us good roms, this is just my tought and i don't meant to denigrate work of other people. Hope you understand
From what I read around the forum, they did release the source code, but partially. You can almost surely rule out development, as hard as they might try, the devs arent going to save a device with a dwindling number of users, especially when it seems that the company itself has abandoned the device. I just hope they are kind enough to just make good on their promise and provide Oreo. Its been less than an year that this device has been available in my country, it would be a shame to see a phone with hardware as good as this not supported less than an year after its launch.

I totally agree with you there. I just bought the honor 8 for the third time and this time I bought the 64g as I had planned on the honor 8 being my new long term device so yes honor better follow through with their promise to keep this phone updated or I just wanted my money and they will loose me as a heavy supporter of their brands. I'm a huge fan but if they aren't going to update their current honor flagship phone nor release anymore new models to take it's place in the US then what's the point of me remaining loyal to them.

Essential up for sale, next phone cancelled

shocker
We'll...
Like the stages of grief, I was initially frustrated and upset. After thinking about it for about 3 minutes, just about every possession I own is for sale, for the right price. Go get it Andy!
Kinda sad, was tempted to buy a ph-2. But now I'm happy I'll get a chance to buy a ph-1 when they go on fire sale. It will fit right in with my nextbit Robin.
this was a response from Essential that Android Police received
An official Essential spokesperson responded to our request for comment. Here's what we got:
"We always have multiple products in development at the same time and we embrace canceling some in favor of the ones we think will be bigger hits. We are putting all of our efforts towards our future, game-changing products, which include mobile and home products."

Damm! I've been so looking forward to the new phone! I'm sure it would have been a much bigger success.
(another article about it, based on Bloomberg report https://www.theverge.com/2018/5/24/...ncels-phone-development-considers-sale-report )
So do I buy another backup one as there really doesn't seem to be an alternative.

I was just wondering that myself.. let's hope the support continues for years to come. I have no plans to upgrade. Love my PH-1
I would not count on continued support for very long. You can’t hardly get decent long term support from phone companies that stay in business...
Sad day really. Especially the cancellation of the phone. I really believed the second one was going to get it right. I only had two problems with the phone: Low light performance of the cameras and poor signal strength (mostly indoors)
I don't think it would have been hard to improve in those areas for their next phone. He is giving up to easy.
P.S. won't be buying their other products if this is how it's going to go.
Maybe we need a petition started to give him more confidence.
It is sad, the Essential Phone had such promise. But sometimes in business "Promises" won't pay the staff or the bills. I was looking forward to PH-2, but now I am, I can't believe I am saying this, looking at the iPhone X.
I have use Android phones ,Nexis< from the beginning. Nexus left us in favor of the extremely expensive and hamstrung Pixel, I was really hoping Essential would fill that void, the one thing is the universe is constant "Apple" seems to always keep thing consistent.
Damn I need to call my therapist, its just a fuc____g phone...
Oh no. That's bad news. What a beautiful phone and not being continued.
First my wonderful Lumia, now the Essential.... Sometimes you wonder what it takes to break into this market.

Bummed on this one for sure. I've been impressed enough with this phone and especially the support to have considered replacing my wife's aging Nexus 5X with the second generation one (assuming the camera was better than the ph-1).
this feels exactly like what happened to me when Google sold Motorola soon after I bought my 2013 Moto X, which is still my all time fav phone. Google was supporting it (we got KitKat FAST) and then BAM the support was yanked out when the company got sold. I was starting to like this phone almost as much.

Where does that say the company is closing or that PH-2 is dead?

Any help rooting or unlocking bootloader on the incredibly unpopular Blu Life One X3?

So, here's my problem:
I bought a Blu Life One X3 late last year since it was on sale for $150 ($100 lower than the current MSRP).
Since it was still a new release, I thought that the modders would come after it eventually, so I just waited it out.
Many months later, there has been little to no word about any sort of root method, it seems like the Life One X3 turned out to be very unpopular.
So far, I have been able to get it into the OEM unlock screen using adb, prompting a press of either of the volume buttons to confirm unlock, only that the volume up button won't do anything, and the volume down just cancels the process.
Any help at all?
Big thanks!
Ferchito
Hi Xiione,
I bought a couple of X3s recently and I was also expecting some development for them already but I only found your thread.
I think there are chances to root the X3 and install customs rooms since it has the same chipset as the BLU Vivo 5 (Chipset Mediatek MT6753, CPU Octa-core 1.3 GHz) and the Vivo 5 has extensive coverage and even kernel sources available. Vivo 5 doesn't have a fingerprint sensor but the BLU Life One X2 Mini has one that I'd be willing to bet is the same as the X3, so drivers may work for it too. This is the route I will follow but I'm only getting started with this stuff so it will probably take a few weeks to get some results.
Hopefully others will join
Cheers
Hey dude!
Glad to see at least one other living human that bought the same phone... good to hear that there might be some hope for this poor device after all.
I'm not so experienced in this area, so there is only so much I can achieve at the moment. I'm looking forward to hearing back from you if any developments arise, I'll do my best to dig around for a solution.
- Xiione

You will not find a one click root for that device. The problem is Blu is still recovery from their security scandal. So most people won't buy their devices.
funny thing is... i don't really consider rooting devices as necessary as it once was (for me). But still... it bugs me to no end i can't get this phone rooted.
I'm having the same problem as the OP.. i'm able to get into fastboot mode, but oem unlock option leads to a dead volume up button which leaves me nowhere. it really is to bad there's so little interest in BLU. they make decent phones at great prices, imo. but i also know they make it very difficult for developers as well.. difficult to get source and such. ...

They are unpopular due to the security issues the company has faced. Not to mention they are just rebranded chinese devices. Which is why sourse is hard to get for them as they dont really make the devices.

I understand the security concerns. However, it's inconceivable that they would not have source, regardless of where the phones come from. If they released the code, more secure versions of the OS could be made available.

It's very common with rebranded Chinese phones. Micromax (and oem in India) had the same issue. The main issue is the oem doesn't release it as it's not required in China. And no it couldn't. The kernel source is only a small part of it.
Best bet is to be more selective with your next device purchase

Any time Apple users have issues I laugh. I always view them as though they're in a league of their own, like they're "elite" and better than everyone. When half of their OS is buggy, you'll still have people defending Apple as though nothing is wrong.

Nah, its not that. They simply don't have any expectations, because icrap isn't technology for productivity, its fashion accessory. So as long as it is fashionable among TWITS, then its all good.
Is this thread just to take the heat off of Google for releasing a lazy/broken OS? Either way, I can assure you from the 100+ bug fix changelog that Android 12 is in a worse situation than IOS ever has been.
not sure a thread on an internet forum takes the heat off a multi billion pound company
Personally ive not had one issue with the pro 6 or android 12. Considering how many have been sold and the tiny percentage pf people complaining on here, most of which is idiots throwing their toys out the pram, im not sure id agree with the "lazy/broken OS" statement either.

Yeah, I suppose it's each person's perspective and how they use their device. I have used every version of Android, and this has had the most issues I have experienced. Even keeping a steady mobile connection has been a problem for my device. Problems from background apps just playing out of nowhere (YouTube), to alarm clocks not silencing without a force close. It's not been great in my opinion. I'm glad you haven't experienced any of that though.
Also, I don't believe it is fair to call those complaining idiots. Obviously there are some real problems with the software by looking at the fixes they had to issue. Truth be told, it's probably just a small percentage so far that they tackled.

My pet peeve is Android copying iOS and becoming more restrictive and closed in the name of security and privacy while iOS is slowly opening up to advanced users.

Definitely! It seems "Material You" is really just pushing what they like on you. Aside from that, Google has done a great job at making developer's lives miserable when trying to compile from source from these newer devices. I just don't like the path they are going down to be honest. I would stick with Android 10 forever if it was possible.

Apple just released a lazy/broken OS, and it's still very incomplete compared to Android 12. I wouldn't consider it a worse situation at all.

Nothing is being pushed onto you at all. You seem just as misinformed as ever.

Alright, think what you will. I'm sure Google broke some kinda record with all of the required bugfixes today though. It is being pushed on those that want the phone however, as you can't downgrade to a more stable OS.
It's interesting that some of you guys lash out when someone doesn't agree with you though. I'm stating my opinion on the OS, and FACTS regarding the buggy android 12 (proven by today's update). So instead of being intelegent and retorting with facts or even your own opinion, you guys call people "idiots" and "misinformed". It seems like this thread is going to continue to be childish, so I'm out. Enjoy the finger pointing and scapegoating with Apple. Take care man.
I'm curious. Why is this thread here? Can we focus on the device this forum is about and not about problems other devices are having. It comes off a little petty and a lot off topic.
Apple has its fair share of major issues. I have an iPad and had an iPhone years ago and they always had their fair share of annoying bugs. Don't act as if pixel issues are unique.
I don't know why, but this thread makes want to take a seat, relax, and eat some popcorn

This thread is here because of the ridiculous complaints people keep posting countless threads on and I'm showing that Google isn't the only one that has had issues at release yet seem to be getting picked on the hardest. Not petty at all.

You posting that other phones have issues won't fix the issues people are having.
This is actually really good at pointing out how childish people are when they need to defend their favorite brand or company (that surprise doesn't give two squirts about you).
Wow devices have issues. Water is wet. If I wanted to talk about what is wrong with apple or a Sammy device I would go to a forum for that. Pretty sure the name says pixel 6 at the top of this sub. Jeez what is this reddit? Grow up.
Edit: Also did you you say "getting picked on". Seriously? Did you birth a P6P from your loins? Get over this product idolatry.

Maybe I should have specified kernel development relating to custom kernels for ROMs. It's discussed more here:
[KERNEL] [blu_spark r131] [A13 Jun 2023]
Kernel features: Build with custom upstream LLVM 14.x (Clang 14.0.6 + LLD linker + IAS) ThinLTO full -O2 build with device and target flags enhanced, build improvements and compiler fixes, etc Less is more: stockish kernel+modules+dtb builds...
forum.xda-developers.com
That's awesome that you have it compiled though. Have you noticed any improvements over stock so far?

It's childish to complain over and over about something that will inevitably be fixed. If you don't like the subject matter of this thread then hop off.

Some you assume and hope will be fixed. Nevermind you're applying that flawed logic with a wide brush across anyone having a problem.
Gotta love it though. Oh you shouldnt complain about the issues you are having with the phone you spent your own money on, because there are phones that you don't even own that are having problems. Well when you put it that way it makes so much sense lol.
This is a lot of whataboutism all because people value being a fanboy over being helpful in a community meant to, well be helpful.
But don't be mad at my comments. There is probably someone somewhere else being a Debby Downer about some other beloved product. After all that's the logic here.
