Is beta 3 stable enough for daily use - Google Pixel 3 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

It's been out for a while now, was wondering if it is stable enough for daily use. I've tried to search but there isn't a tread on actual stability for daily use. Thanks

beta 4 should be out in a few days, may as well wait.

I had beta 3 on my 3XL, but reverted back to Pie. Phone was always running uncomfortably hot and the battery seemed to drain fairly quickly. Last night, I shut my phone completely off at 30%. This morning, I tried to power it on and it was completely drained. I placed it on the pixel stand and it showed that I had 0% battery. After reverting back to Pie, the phone no longer runs hot.

It is for me.

It ran very smooth for me but I couldn't live without root, so I went back to Pie.

I was getting FC with a high amount of apps

It's been running fine for me. A few little glitches such as the display not turning on when I lift the phone, but that is more of an irritation than a reason to not use it. Although as stated earlier, beta 4 will drop in a few days, so might as well wait for that.

For the most part it's good. The real big issue I've had is the snapchat/camera bug. I'll take a snap, and it'll turn all pixelated and everything, close it, then try again and it says the camera is not responding, and if you go to the camera app it doesn't work either. Great camera, but its glitchy as all hell.

ok its been a day since I installed beta 3 and yes its running fine , battery life seems better as well. I use my work for work with work emails and I don't feel like reverting back. Android Q is pretty awesome. I have noticed Netflix working but there are screen jitters.
My honest suggestion is to wait for beta 4 which should have completed most of the errors.

This is the one thing I agree with so far. A LOT of my normal apps just either won't run or randomly close. Just basic apps and the known issue with having syncing issues with banking apps is really hard to take.

Been on since the 1st beta, been stable enough for my usage this far.

I have come back on foot, it is slow, there are many failures, especially with Google services, etc ...to see beta 4 that will come out soon

I have been running the Beta and no issues works fine for me as daily driver.

I've never had any force closing of any of my apps on beta 3. Then again, I did do a clean install of it.

Works pretty much perfectly for me. No FC of apps, very fast and the battery life is great. I DID wipe on P before taking the beta 2 update, then took the 3 OTA. I think going dirty from P to Q is what is causing so many problems for people. I would definitely wipe either on P or when you grab Q. Normally I would say on P, then setup all apps since that helps a ton with them working correctly on early betas, but, 4 should work with most apps at this point.
The only thing I'm not entirely happy with is the full gestures. The partial swipe up and hold for recents kind of sucks. I have to turn it off then on again daily to keep it working. Also, I think full/quick swipe up should be for recents, and either a second swipe or the swipe and hold for apps. The former is how it works on 2 button and it's soooo much better.

I got my pixel 3 xl
I updated to beta 3 before installing any applications or even restoring from the play store
I get numerous force close on many applications repeatedly some not even starting at all.
Banking apps by and large fail to work.

I've just received the beta 4 update ?

Been on the beta since the first one was released on my daily driver. No serious issues at all. Beta 4 is almost the final version (final API:s) of Android 10.
It's snappier than Pie ever was and the gestures are great.

Is Froyo Stable?

so now that there is a froyo leak out for our phones, is it stable enough to update to it? i was thinking of going for the cognition v2.2 froyo, but obviously dont want a ton on unreliability problems lol...so whats the status on that?
I can't speak to cognition, but I have been running Froyo since it came out a few days ago (no root or lagfix) and it seems fine. Some have complained about lag - if it is there, it is not near as bad as stock 2.1. Others have said the browser has a memory leak - i have not run into that yet either.
Overall the plusses outway the minuses. I am happy with it so far. I have not had any crashes or FCs and the GPS is no worse then JH7. Unless i find a show stopper issue, I will keep it for now.
oh cool, so is it a final release of froyo or was it just a beta leak?

I would call it Beta. There is still stuff that looks like they ported the i9000 Rom over and they still need to do a little clean up. Some EU spellings of things, some minor bugs, Wireless AP and USB tether are present.
I think this is the 2.2 Captivate Base that they will build from. A solid Beta, but not the final.
It has been running fine for me. Once Rom Manager gets updated things will be great. Only AppsInstaller doesn't work for me but its not really that big of a deal.
This FROYO is actually very stable in that everything works perfect.............Have been running for 24 hrs barely so theres a bit more testing needed but yea its definately a GO . At first i got a couple of force closes on several of stock apps like music, phone, and a couple of others but only happend once and never happen again kind of like if it was still setting up or something but besides that and some odd color changes 2.2 is stunning i notice an overall snappier feel market 2x quiker (i dont use lag fix because it ruinned my OS a few times thats just me) and with root enabled the limitations are infinate
I've only been using it for half the day, but I have to say that samsung fixed most of the little annoying problems with this phone. We finally got the phone we paid for with the exception of lag. It's still there, but the one click lag fix solves that. All in all,i recommend the update. Especially with cognition.
cognition 2.2
I'm running the most recent release of Cognition 2.2 for Froyo with the built in one click lag fix. (Even though I really didn't even need to run the lag fix, its that smooth) It is sick. Phone is just silky smooth in all aspects. The only thing I noticed was that flash was slowing the browser down a little, but only on super large pages with tons of plug ins like huffingtonpost so I set the plug in setting to "on demand" and now I can't find a page large enough to slow down the browser. I put it next to my friends new Iphone4 and it was embarassing how much faster the Captivate was loading pages. Only things that arent working on 2.2 yet are titanium backup, which you really shouldnt use for this anyway since you don't want to install 2.1 apps on the 2.2 update, and Rom manager, but I fully expect that with the level of support we've seen from the Rom dev, he will have it updated in no time as well as an update for Titanium. Overall, I almost feel for the first time that I no longer need to scour the forums looking for ways to improve the phone. It is just sick (have I said how sick it is?) how well it runs with Cognition. GPS works perfectly, and I don't mean just getting locks. I put it on my dash and have been driving around a lot for two days and My Tracks is right on. My position does not drift off the road AT ALL anymore. No more being on other streets and otherwise just drifting around all nilly willy. GPS Test shows at least 6 or 7 locked satellites and usually 9 or 10 locked. I don't think I would get better performance out of a Garmin or Tom Tom. It does get better sat locks on the dash with a clear view of the sky rather than in the cup holder in the center console however, but that is to be expected with any GPS device. Even so, it was still fully functional in the cupholer.
I installed by Odin one click back to stock, did a GSM Master Reset via the phone keypad *2767*3855# then rooted, put the downloaded Cognition 2.2 file on my internal sd card, and then installed with Rom Manager, (works because I'm back on 2.1 at this point) I HIGHLY recommend this. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all the spare time I just freed up by not having to flash my phone a million more times
P.S. If you can, donate a few bucks to DesignGears for the work he has done with this. It's totally worth it! It's amazing that he's gotten a ROM out so fast with the release and he is constantly working on, upgrading, and tweaking his work to make it better. (which is why im sure I'll be flashing again in the future /cry)

Go to pocketnow.com (full desktop version) and click through a few articles there. Muhahaha. Scrolling will become ultra slow, other apps will be forced out of memory, and you may even get a browser crash if you're lucky. That's the memory leak bug.

The FroYo build is stable and fast. I like it.
I rolled back. It is stable - but some of the underlying features are broken. Forwarding emails does not include any comments you make. Google contact groups now work, but the listed names map to the wrong contacts.
Some nice improvements overall, but some issues are show stoppers for me. It won't crash though - or at least it didn't for me.
Has anyone tried enabling jit on this? I know it was attempted on 2.1 but no one made it past the lock screen before it bootlooped on the galaxy s. 2.2 is made for jit & it should be more stable now right? All I could find in the forums is how to do this for other phones like the droid x (sounds pretty unstable though) & im too much of a noob to figure out how to apply that to my captivate to try it.

Froyo has been pretty stable for me, and certainly better overall than 2.1 was. It still needs work to have what I would call a well-polished feel, but overall I find it to be an upgrade.
I'm hoping it is a beta, and we'll get an even better one soon

What's the general consensus on the JB leak?

I know the leak is out there in the dev section, but I'm having trouble getting a feeling or consensus on the quality of the rom. In particular, I'm most concerned with battery life and general crashing/incompatibilities that might occur going about basic operations. Anyone care to share their experience so far? Is it more worth waiting til Jan/Feb when I'm guessing Verizon might finally release JB?

I've been running the CleanRom ULE version of this since the day it was posted and love it. Quite noticeably faster and smoother than ICS. GPS lock is faster than it ever was on ICS. Mobile data is the same as it was - I'm in a pretty good 4G area and have no problems. One thing I have noticed is that Wifi is pickier when I'm on the fringe of the signal. Some places where I used to be able to connect, I can't any more. But if I'm in a stronger signal area it's just fine.
I hate that my notification bar isn't straight black. It's like, off black but not quite grey.

Lol, I thought I was the only one who cared about that.....kinda annoys me.
Other than that, it runs super great for me. I was on it for the first three days or so, but needed my cm10 fix again. Its so good that I usually spend about half my week cm10, half on one of the jb leaks.

VRBLI5 JellyBean is better in certain areas and worse in others compared to ICS...overall I would give it a slight edge. I bet the official update will polish things up a bit. You have to remember the JB leak is dated oct. 8th. There was a reason it did not make it as a official ota...its still pretty good for a leak, definately not complaining by anymeans. :good:
The one from incubus hadn't given me a single problem yet. I think my battery life actually improved. After about 11 hrs yesterday mine was still at 30% (Bluetooth on, brightness up).
I think it's great. I'm using Synergy, which I think is excellent (always has been). If you use this ROM, you should also flash the radio update (I5) and RPM (power management) update. The radio is definitely improved - I'm not having my calls constantly dropped anymore in below-average signal locations!! Very happy with this update.
I flashed the Incubus RLS11 yesterday and it ran fine for a while. Things were smooth. Didn't notice any problems.
I'm in the sticks but I get pretty good LTE. To make sure I don't lose it when I need it I use the Phone Info app to go LTE only. That worked great on stock or stock-rooted-unlocked. It even worked good on CM10 and AOKP-M1. But for some reason on the Incubus ROM I started having real problems.
I tried forcing LTE only which would work for a few seconds and then would switch back automatically to the default LTE/CDMA/EvDo. After playing around with it some more it got stuck in CDMA auto (PRL) for a while and then GSM auto (PRL) and then EvDo only. It was really weird. I got tired of messing with it so I restored my stock image.
I didn't do the radios or RPM which was probably my problem. The links on the page I got the rom from were dead.
I'll try again, just didn't want to fool with it last night. Other than the radio issue it was real smooth. I'm a freak, I kinda really like TouchWiz. I was on stock or CM or KANG so much on my GNex, I'm enjoying the skinned experience. The biggest thing I miss from the GNex is JB though.
Been running JellyWiz RLS12 all week and it's been great. Battery life is same it was stock. Some have had issues with battery, but if you read through the thread for that ROM, I believe there are fixes. The only issue I have that is unresolved is I am not able to play movies or tv back through the Google Play Movies and TV app. The phone just reboots. Not a big deal for me right now, and Google Now easily makes up for it.
I have been running the lastest leak for two days now, the biggest changes I noticed, are the following
1. the Driving mode on/off toggle seems to have been removed from the pulldown bar, but driving mode itself is still there. (I downloaded a home screen widget to turn it on and off quickly)
2. The entire phone itself, from games, to movies, to youtube videos seems.....smoother and more refined (I blame Project Butter)
3. Slight battery life improvement :good:
4. if you use facial unlock, they moved the camera bypass from bottom to top right corner
My only complaint so far is that when I get a text message, missed call, voicemail I get the "Swipe over Icon to view the missed event" alert.
Don't get me wrong those nice little alerts help introduce to you new features of the phone. I don't mind them once or twice, but this specific one on the lock screen, I can't get rid of. Any ideas?

These are the item I found wrong with the latest JB leak: (at least on my phone)
After an alarm goes off and you try and lock your phone, it won't lock. The screen will turn off but won't stay off. You have to unlock your phone to home screen then relock it.
New Samsung keyboard was incredibly laggy.
When trying to delete an extra home screen the phone would lock up and then say "touchwiz home has stopped working."
I don't think this was a bug but to get to the task manager, I had to hold down the home button for like 5 seconds!
There was another thing but I can't remember it. I was running the untouched leak, via Odin. I went back to stock.

[Q] Slow performance on Lolipop

Hi everyone,
So i've tried 2 lolipop roms now (currently on the resurrection remix) and i'm experiencing very slow performance on all of them. Typical scenario i'm in an app (lets say chrome) i hit the center home button and then the app drawer button; its taking forever to show the apps and sometimes i will just get a black screen. Just earlier i went into settings and after clicking something it took a few seconds to actually register. I dont remember experiencing this slowness on kitkat or jellybean for that matter. Is it just me?

No you are not.
I am experiencing the same and i am thinking everyone is experiencing this.
I would guess it's a Ram problem, cause thats the reason for all performance problems i had on this Phone, it has always been Ram/Ram-Management.
Take a look at the develpoment Page of CM12.
On the last Pages it seems like C has found a way to make this Rom really really Snappy, but he is still in testing.
Let's hope he will publish it soon.

its as good as the CM versions were a month or so ago. It seems the lollipop performance has dropped off lately as they've added in additional features. I'm on that rom right now because another one became unusable, but its got the same issues as other LP roms, namely multi-tasking and occasional awful performance (but yes, its probably the best of the bunch right now today as far as current roms go).
I'm seriously considering dropping back to KK

The memory leaks are to blame. Its not even device specific. They are trying to work on it. Word is CM12.1 should fix it, but i've heard mixed reviews on that. But yes, CM11 might be the best bet.

I just installed 5.1 by epinter and I have to say it runs amazingly fast, smooth and stable.
Everything that bugged me out is gone.
You can keep Whatsapp, Chrome and Maps in Memory - it's just awesome.
It's also very snappy and apps start a lot faster.
And keep in mind this is the first attempt at porting 5.1.
Did I mention the battery lasts almost 50% longer as well at my first day of usage?

Has anyone installed it and if so, how are you finding it?

I am running the Q beta. For the most part, it's working very well, but there's some issues. Some apps are not working normally, or at all. It's a gamble at best. Many beta testers have a 2nd phone to rely on, just in case. And, some will wait until the 2nd or 3rd release before jumping in.

I honestly find this beta rock stable considering it's a beta as its name says. It's my Daily Driver for my Pixel 2.
I will probably wait for dp2/3 like with pie
Its pretty stable, however the battery life is not exactly on point. i do not yet recommend it as a daily driver, however if you want to install it to see new features you can go here https://www.google.com/android/beta to opt in your device and install it like any other OTA update
I'm using it as a daily driver. Honestly i didnt face any issues except for one app (localcast) not working. Battery life is almost the same but sometimes goes wrong and drains for no reason. All in all though its pretty stable.
Dont know if I'll recommend it though, it really depends on how you use it and if all your apps are compatible. For me there are really no extra "features" or speed improvements, just minor things here and there that dont make a big difference overall, I'd stick with Pie if I were you.

installed the beta last night and its holding up pretty well so far 12 hrs in. loving the system wide dark mode (finally) and the battery life is the same as P, so far.
I noticed a couple things that may be reasons to wait until the next update for some folks:
- All my stored wifi passwords were lost immediately upon updating.
- When passing by wifi networks that are saved but do not have the password set mobile data drops and stays off until toggling mobile data on/off. I'm not certain it's wifi related, but each time it happened I was using the phone and noticed xfinitywifi tried to connect and then mobile data dropped.
- Chrome doesn't autofill passwords, latest Chrome beta fixed this so it will eventually be fixed when the next Chrome version drops.

This right here. I had the sound issue on P where the sound would randomly switch from clear to bassy/muffled ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/how-to/semi-perm-fix-patch-random-sound-change-t3919626 ) , so I said enough since it's going to be almost a year, and Google still can't figure out how to fix it (and probably won't since Q is so close to release), so I went to QB6. P was 99.9% perfect for me. Just the sound issue I mentioned. It was buttery smooth, and worked flawlessly. Well being on QB6 for a full day, and using the phone for well over 12 hours, I can say QB6 makes P feel like Android version 5 or lower. Not only does it work flawlessly, but it's even smoother, better battery, better looks, and just overall a better OS. I feel like I just got a new phone.
Its loads better, sleep mode is better, although it takes a bit longer for the phone to fully wake up, and battery is excellent.
Guys, 2 days after the latest August security update my device can't connect to mobile internet. I have already declared it as connectivity interruption issue to my provider, but I was curious to know if someone else is dealing with the same weird problem. I already tried to reset network settings without further success. I could try to factory reset it as a last effort to solve this problem, but somehow I doubt that it will eventually help. Stock device, unmodified.
