I've watched several videos and I've noticed that the screen curves are too wide, at the point that in some apps, if the text are too close to the right or left, they are displayed in the curve and it gets hard to read.
Do you have the same concern?

I think curved screens are more annoying than gaps, which is the only reason I can't decide whether to buy a 7pro.

In S10+ is way more subtle. Look at it in the right, the screen elements are well adjusted.
Meh I like the curved edges personally
That looks bad ?
Wish op7 would be available in USA
I think its accentuated in that photo due to the glare from the lighting. If you look at the bottom half of both screens it doesn't look that bad.
Yep I'm disappointed they went with a curved screen.

has anyone used both devices (OP7 Pro, S10+)?
How do the edges compare? Ist the curved thing stronger/more on the OP7 than on the S10+? I don't like these edges on my S10+ but if they are not more curved I probably would go for the OP7

I personally dislike curved edges and am having the same issue. If I can't stand the 7 Pro, I'll likely get the Zenfone 6. The S10+ was annoying in that aspect, if the 7 Pro is the same then it'll be a no no for me.

Same here. I had galaxy s6 edge and thanks but no thank you never again. Flat screen only and front finger print scanner.
I happen to like curved screens. But I think everyone obsesses over this too much.

^good to Know!
Came from s9+ tbh I thought I would hate the curve but with cases it never really bothered me, without cases always would accidentally touch things in the bottom right. To me the op7p curve is less deep, but it doesn't seem to start curving earlier than the s9+. On either phone I've never noticed any distortion, can say if youre not looking at the screen head in the text wrapping around the side looks weird but it's not a noticeable thing in day to day use.
One complaint is it means there is no good glass screen protectors, got one just to see if the game was any better than the s9+ but its not, and they kinda mess with the fingerprint sensor anyway.

True, t-mobile variants don't come with it unfortunately, so I'm stuck looking for a good third party protector.
Any of you t-mobile folks out there I'd advise strongly against the $40 protector they offer for you, is not good.

Keep in mind there is usually a ton of studio lighting around these things as YouTubers film the videos. I don't think it will be as pronounced as you see in that picture.

I has the s10+ and now have the oneplus pro 7 and one thing that was very noticeable was how much less I accidently pressed the screen on the 7. The s10+ has a more aggressive curve which for me makes it easy to for accidental touches. It also warps anything like text near the edge of the screen. The 7 pro does this much less.

the case and the protective glass are curved
the SAMOLED display is flat
that's why you should expect to have some touch sensitive UNresponses near the bottom of the most curved part

Are you sure that the SAMOLED is flat? My understanding of SAMOLED screens is that there is no glass between the screen and the touch surface as there is in most typical touchscreen devices (Wikipedia confirms and the Engadget review directly states "Curved Super AMOLED") Looking at the screen from the side, I can see my background curving and I cannot reproduce the "UNresponses" on either the top or the bottom of my device or my wife's.
Wikipedia said:
Super Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode or Super AMOLED is a display technology for use in mobile devices such as mobile phones. It differs from many other display technologies in that the layer which detects touch is integrated into the screen rather than being overlaid on top.

I'm not an expert, but I'd venture a guess that given that information saying the entire screen is curved is a safe bet.

I think the curved screen looks GREAT, and gives the phone a distinctive look that no other phone in its class has.
There's certainly one small advantage to the curved screen...if you drop the phone or lay it on a table face down, the bulk of the screen cannot touch the surface and get marred. On the other hand, I suspect someone will say that it's worse for that because the impact on a drop is placed in a smaller area and increases risk of shatter. I'm not a glass engineer, so I don't really know if that's true or not, but it would make sense.

I just used my LED flashlight and I couldn't see it. Also, I can't find where that picture was from and I'm always weary of sources I can't check.
I found this: http://http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/09/samsung-super-amoled-explained-in-pretty-moving-pictures-video/ which states that:
t's thinner since the touch sensors are now integrated into the display

And this: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus-S-Teardown/4365/1 but it has no side view pictures of the screen but from what I can tell, it looks super thin which goes against the other posted pictures.
As I said before, all of this to me indicates that the entire screen is curved as I cannot reproduce any touch "UNresponses", I still maintain I can see my background curve, everything I've read indicates that a SAMOLED is a SAMOLED because the touch sensor is built into the screen and not on top of it, and I can''t see a difference with a powerful flashlight.

Not really sure why allgamer had to "do my home work for me" with lmgtfy as I posted the link to the website, I just didn't see the second page. It would have wasted a lot less of your time if you had just said "Look on the second page" as demo23019. I don't generally care about teardowns so I have never looked at one before.
And actually, skepticism is what holds the world together. If people hadn't questioned what was beyond the horizon we wouldn't have ever left Africa. What you said clashed with what I understood so I explained why it didn't make sense and posted where my knowledge came from. If you can't handle someone questioning something that doesn't make sense to them in an adult manner, that is your own failing, not mine.

Promised to do a review on this screen protector, so paulo this one's for you. Haha. Well I've had this screen protector on for about 4 weeks now, and I absolutely love it. I would definitely recommend it, especially for those on a budget. A $5.95 well spent.
Pros:
Dry application
Precise cut outs
Great touch responsiveness (Swyping with this bad boy is a breeze.)
No fingerprints
No smudges
Better visibility in sunlight
Looks sexy lol
Cons:
Took me 2 out of the 3 protectors to get it on right, or without bubbles. Maybe I'm just not good at that.
Screen quality degradation (This is expected with a anti-glare/matte screen protector. There is some pixelation, which is really noticeable on white backgrounds.)
You can but it HERE.
Pictures that took me forever.

Thanks for the review. I already ordered mine and just wanted to check out some more images of it. Out of curiosity, what case are you using? Also is there a notice gap between the protector and the lip of the case? The first few images make it seem like it, but the rest make the gap appear small.

I'm guessing you are taking about the difference between this picture of the screen protector:
vs
Well there are two reasons.
1. I didn't apply the screen protector perfectly. You can also see the little bubbles created by dust left on the screen. So I took it off, and tried again.
2. Two different cases. I doubt this affects it, however, considering I switch the cases out per week and the gap between the screen protector and the case doesn't increase or shrink.
I have two cases. The white one the Mercury TPU Nexus 4 case(comes in many different colors), and the black one is the Acase Superleggera Pro Hybrid dual layer Nexus 4 case(also comes in different assortments).
I'm also using this screen protector and I love it too, great price ya can't go wrong with these. ????

I bought this screen protector 3 months ago but never used it, as it looks like a hassle to apply if it takes going through most of them to get one that is applied properly. I just kept the stock plastic protector on mine; maybe after that gets destroyed I will give it a try.

its pretty simple just be quick, and i would day do it in the restroom, less dust in the air. always works for me.
I've installed countless screen protectors for me and friends. For the wet ones, you definitely want to be in a steamy bathroom as that helps settle the dusts. The dry ones, need to be done quickly. You can slip a small piece of tape between the screen and the screen protector to grab some of the dust. The stickiness of the tape beats the static force created by the protector. Not sure of its technical name.
My silliest method was to put the phone in the middle, on top of a fan blowing air upwards. That way it created a space where dust will not be. It worked perfectly.

I mean, I guess there is. But to notice the bubbling you would have to nitpicking or looking in with a magnifying glass (not really). I'd say the bubbling on the side is about .25 cm from the edge. Really slight, and with my case on you can't notice it.

hey I am getting this phone in a week I selected it over s8 and iphone 7
and I would like to know your experience with it specially the durability as it failed with the bend test due to the flexible metal frame ,front and back glass
also what about the selfie shooter and battery life
I hope you share your experience with me
thanks in advance
I owned one when first released for 3 weeks. Definitely need a case to protect it but then I always use one. Battery life was average though not terrible.
Now, originally the phone was a speed demon but after awhile did become laggy much to my surprise but I have tons of apps though no game apps or Facebook loaded. I did pre-order the newer 6gb/128 version to see if that would improve, but cancelled as I await further feedback from users. I still prefer my S8+ and it doesn't lag for me to the surprise of many.

A phone made of glass. What a brilliant idea.
Using it for around 10 days without a case. Not enough time to judge but it's been fine. I am very careful though. Just a personal issue I have with this phone which doesn't seem to bother most people is the yellow tint at the bottom of the screen. Would have returned it because I'm particularly OCD about these things but the tint is so faint I couldn't get the customer service people to see it and if they don't see it in my particular case, I'm not getting a refund or replacement.
Btw the phone is awesome though and I wish I didn't notice or have the screen issue.

Mine is different. I have light bleed at the top which I can live with. What I have at the bottom is a yellow tint which gradually fades to white. OnePlus one had a similar issue and I swapped it twice before giving up on it. This is less exaggerated but unfortunately unbearable for me.

I have one for about 10 days now, and I must say it's beautiful. I use the provided HTC case with it, and the case now has lots of scratches.
I believe the phone is more slippery with the case, that without. I also think the glass is not as easily scratched as the plastic case, but it is a fingerprint magnet.
I've ordered a transparent silicone case, let's see how that is.
I don't have any light bleed or dead pixels, the cameras work perfectly, Edge Sense as well.
I really have nothing to comment regarding the performance of the phone, everything is snappy and works perfectly.
What I hate is the fact that I have the Dual-SIM version, and I always have the SIM no above the signal icon.

Experience is awesome, great, super happy, love this phone, extremely fast, great for the most demanding games.

Good reception even in poor areas.
Durability... not so great, not enough protection, Glass can break if not careful, will get scratched.
Poor availability of choices for Protection Cases and Screen Protectors.

I don't want to root it. Yet.
I have a good track record with phones, so I ditched the case. I do, however, have a carbon fiber skin on the back. The skin protects from finger prints, makes it easier to hold, protects the glass from scratches, and I personally thought the design isn't very good without it.
I found out that the glass is more fragile than I would have thought. When applying the skin, I had the glass face down on a glass coffee table. When I flipped it over it had various scratches. Got an IQ Shield screen protector and thankfully it hides the scratches.
I wanted to ask those using the phone. I have a black u11. When the flashlight is on I can see light at the sides where the glass meets the metal. Is this normal for all?

Ah wait scratch that. Didn't want to worry anybody. I looked at it carefully and that's not the issue. I have a full body clear guard and the edges of the screen/ body film seem to be lighting up. The actual metal joint seems to be fine. Thanks for the reply though. Much appreciated.

I'm in construction and after a month of use I have ZERO scratches. I tried a few cases, but they made this phone too bulky and hid the awesomeness. Now I just have a CardNinja business card holder on the back and an otherwise nekkid solar red phone.
After a month of use it has become less slippery. I did have to turn off Edge Sense though because it kept taking photos when I was taking it out of my front pocket.
I typically run a wet cloth over the screen and back after doing anything with tons of dust and I'm good to go!
Cases, in my experience just grind the pocket dust into the phone until they create gouges.
Hope that helps,
Chad
I really would like a case option. I like the peace of mind of a case or at least a thin bumper. I can't find any but wallet cases on eBay and Amazon. Essential website has no accessories but the 360 camera. I already have a phone on the way I would really like a case.
I'm in the same boat. I cannot find anything available either. Would have been nice for Essential to sell something alongside the phone.

This is probably why there aren't cases. The 3rd party manufacturers typically get a cad render or a demo unit early to have their cases ready for launch. Hopefully Spigen or someone gets a case out quick. I'm fine going day to day without but when I go out I want a case.
Well there are a bunch of screen protectors already. (I already have a pack) but I am hoping I can run this phone naked. The only reason I got a case for my Nexus 6P is because of the soft as butter aluminum that was used on it that allowed the edges to scratch if you just looked at it sharply. I used a HTC 10 prior that didn't have this issue and it shows when one manufacture uses a softer form of Aluminum than another.
The one thing that does irk me is the curved edge to the screen. Why nearly all the latest phone designs have this is beyond me since you aren't doing the actual curved edge like a Samsung, why the heck are you trying to copy them with the subtle curve on the edge that just attracts scratches like nobody's business if you run naked, and a screen protector doesn't fit exactly to the edge because nobody makes a curved one for anything that isn't an iPhone/Samsung device so you get only partial coverage and if you don't put it on jussst right, the edge might lift just enough to be caught at some point when you put in into a pocket, causing gunk to get in there and ruin the protector.
I am hoping that the near edge screen means the curve at the edge is smaller than say, the Pixel, but we will see once it is in hand.
I have found Skins,... Dbrand Skins I'm definitely thinking about this and a screen protector, but more than almost anything I want the heft and feel of the Essential Ph-One more than anything,...
Not so sure I'll go for a case. Here is one that popped up on amazon. No real pictures of the Ph-1 version makes it questionable...

I really wish this came with the same shatterproof screen that Motorola has. That combined with the titanium and ceramic really would make this phone the most durable phone out there of modern day, right up there with the old legendary Nokias. And then we definitely wouldnt need cases for any reason.

That combined with the titanium and ceramic really would make this phone the most durable phone out there of modern day, right up there with the old legendary Nokias. And then we definitely wouldnt need cases for any reason.

From the reviews on the Moto screen is that it might not break but gets scratched all to hell just in your pocket.

Yes cause it's some form of plastic. But much easier to prevent scratches than cracks with a simple film
Don't need a case, LOL. So they are replacing broken screens for free?

Who would want a plastic screen? It's a great idea in theory but in practice it's trash.

Then put a tempered glass screen protector on and it solves both those issues for you while retaining a screen that won't break even if it falls badly. Easy solution guys.....
I reached out to Spigen. From their answer I think Spigen wants to make a case. But essential isn't giving them information. At least for now...
Dbrand is making skins for it. So if you want to protect the back there you go.

No ship date yet though . They are probably waiting for their own essential phone to make them. Then it will take another week or two to ship.

Today I am reviewing the G-MOST OnePlus 6 Screen Protector, [2-Pack] [No Rainbow Effect] [Full Coverage] HD Tempered Glass Screen Cover Shield for OnePlus6 - Black from Amazon. You can find the link below if you would like to purchase it.
While I like the idea of a TSGP for my OP6, I have yet to find one that is full adhesive that actaully fits the entire screen. This one is no exception.
It is actually quite smaller than the screen and you are missing maybe 1/10 of an inch on either side. The cutout at the top for the camera is on point though.
If they made the edges the correct size of the phone this thing would actually work. It was easy to apply and it sticks well so far.

Ths bro for a honest review. That's a shame that there is still no good TG on the market.
Have you guys not used the actual oneplus brand TGSP? Works like a champ! Way better than the junky ebay ones.

I read bad reviews about that one as well.
There are good reviews of them as well. Mine went on easily and absolutely no issues since.
The only knock I would have is price. They aren't cheap, although mine was purchased with the ultimate bundle from 1+

I have it but haven't put it on cause I'm not sure how it will do. Does it cut off any screen? Or have any rainbow effect or dot matrix? I did see some bad reviews on it as well so I've been skeptical about using it especially if I don't like it I won't be able to put the original film protector back on. Does it let any particles underneath it at all?

Give it a shot, out of the 6 or 7 I've tried it's by far the best. Much better than The official 5T protector.
I have the orig SP still in the packaging and waiting on this one that i ordered from aliexpress for 4 bucks so that i can put that one on first and see if its any good... otherwise ill just put on the orig one that i got for free thanks to the rev code of a buddy.
i am also thinking of maybe doing it with LOCA 2500 glue because that seems to give a very good result and seems very responsive when touching the screen
I really hate the black boarders on these TGSPs...

I installed G-Most tgsp today and so far I think this is the best tgsp imo. Went on smoothly, full screen adhesive, no rainbow effect, etc. Like OP said, it cuts may be 1px on eachside of the screen but it does not impact my everyday usage. I am going to keep it until something better preferably with all-clear borders show up. I was not familiar with this brand , so thanks for mentioning it here.

I also orderd this TGSP last week and got it 3 days ago.
It really is super easy to assemble(leave your case on for easy placement) and I was able to apply it bubble free at my first try.
I like the coverage and size of the glas, but the black border is something I would not choose a second time. It blocks a small area which is just some pixels small, but its there and I can notice it.
Cutouts are very precise and because I used my case as assembly help it was easily aligned with my camera, top and bottom display edges and the "sides" fit very nice into my case. It's as centered as it could be in my opinion.
Would buy again.
