I have a detailed question with also some detailed answer, yes, "answer" but I'm looking for alternatives because the current solution doesn't make me happy.
My Android TV Box (Radioshack 6.0 4k android box p212) works pretty well, image quality is nice but the dark parts of the video are too dark. Brightness on the TV can't fix it, already tried every single option on the Android Box with no luck.
Solutions if you are experiencing the same issue of dark video: is rooting the device but unfortunately after many days searching over the web and trying diff methods, I just can't, my device doesn't even appear on the web as having options for rooting. This solution involves editing the Build.prop file. Depending on your device, the editing to be done will be different (you can search the web, there are many tutorials about this). My problem: I can't root my device!!! And the specific model of my TV Box brings only a few results. If you can do it you are luck, me? unlucky, but my device was on a very low price so that's why I bought it.
I found tutorials about flashing the devices with diff roms, but so far I can't find any single rom that can be applied to my TV Box, remember its not just about trying any, it's about first finding the right one.
Kodi solves the issue. Do you know Kodi? it's a media player and manager, it allows me to adjust the brightness and contrast per video and for the whole APP, it really works, and you have to disable the hardware acceleration for this to work. So yes this is a solution. Unfortunately it doesn't make me happy because Kodi has some issues, performance problems, the video library grows and grows (pretty well known issues in the community) and makes things slow, so it works but I'm not happy.
Unfortunately that trick of brightness control doesn't work on other video players, I've downloaded and tried many, really, not even VLC. The brightness modifications don't affect the video playback at all. VLC and MX Player are my favorites but none of them can adjust the brightness despite playing with all the preferences I could find.
If you are experiencing the same issues probably what I posted above will help you depending on your device. In my case I'm still stuck with the brightness problem, using Kodi "solves it" but since them I'm stuck facing specific Kodi issues (starting to hate it). I would love to find:
- specific info on how to root or flash my TV Box (Radioshack 6.0 4k android box identified as model p212)
- information on other video apps that allow FULL brightness control over the video playback
- I would also love tricks to make VLC work as it should (full brightness adjust), as explained above this doesn't work in my case
There are some apps to adjust the gama, RGB and brightness of the device, unfortunately when I use them VLC refuses to work.
Any clue, hint or advice will be appreciated.
Try TMPlayer it is a simple player but has brightness, contrast, saturation and hue control at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.droiding.ingdroid.ttmplayer

Pan on Note 10.1
Please add to the bug list the pan problem on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, detailed in https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mx-videoplayer/svXy0vhIUOQ
Hello, thanks for this great app.
I wanted to request something I think is a great feature, but then I was happy to see it already in the high priority list.
Popup Player: https://groups.google.com/d/topic/mx-videoplayer/ws_voRX-MVc/discussion
But then I looked at the original thread and it dates back 2 years. Is there any word on development of this?
I see so many video apps successfully implement this and it seems to work wonderfully well for playing local files as well as streaming. For stress testing I even tried out large video files and heavy streams while loading up heavy apps and games and I never noticed lag or stutter, on my first generation nexus 7.
MX Player has always been my favorite android player since my nexus one, 4 years ago until today. And I would love to keep supporting it but I'm now downloading other players when I need floating video.
So I hope for some good news on development of this great feature, thanks!

I have the Moto X. Since is shoots at a 16:9 ratio it won't go past 7.2mp. Is it possible to add full 10mp 16:9 support?

auto resume on startup
Hi
This player is awesome.
Here a feature needed for android car radio. Android car player are more and more popular, a nice feature would be an option when we start the player, the last played file start automatically on resume, like a normal car cd player do. (no need to start the application automatically, there is already an application for that).
Because each time the car is turned off, all applications are stopped by the android system. of course, if you use the integrated player it resume automatically, but it does not play all format and the interface is not good enough.
Thanks!
Cedric
@AlbertAS and @xenyz please make a new forum thread for your feature requests, then link that thread here, so that it can be added to the list. With a thread for your specific request, it is easier to keep track of each item.
@xenyz added.

This is a great video player indeed, but as a car stereo app it's not ideal I'd say.. cause that's not its main purpose.
In my car I've been using PowerAmp for over 4 years now, it works great with everything you need from auto resuming to lockscreen controls etc. PowerAmp was one of the first apps to integrate all these things and still does it best imo. Although many other players have adopted the same functions.

I agree that PowerAmp is probably one of the best music player apps out there.
Apologies in advance if I'm doing this wrong.
I have MX Pro, and would like to see it brought to Google TV...namely the Sony NSZ-GS7.
It doesn't appear in the Play Store for GTV, and I have tried sideloading MX player and it offers a "not supported" message.

Anyone know of a way to get x265 playback working properly on the nexus 5?
Ive tested most of the android players , mxplayer seems to work best but struggles in 1080p at points.
MXplayer seems to work a bit better than KODI on the nexus 5.
Mxplayer in SW mode plays it , HW mode i get a black screen , HW+ does not work at all.
Android video player seems to play full speed but i have no option for audio , its always mute on the files ive tried.
KODI on my pc plays all my files a+
I noticed an HEVC player (HODI) on the store but its 15$ and has 1 rating , and its a bad one.
Anyone have any experience on this? I found a codec pack for this for android but seems to be for x86 only , and i also have no idea how to use it.
Any information would be appreciated - thanks!
As info i am using android 5.0 xtraslim on my nexus 5
Edit : This is the link i found the codec on , seems to be a demo only.
http://xhevc.com/en/downloads/downloadCenter.jsp
Also as a side note i have the same issues on my nexus player.
Does changing the "Use NuPlayer" option in Developer section give any difference to the playback?

Indeed , i didnt know that was an option , i just checked and that seems to be on by default.
I just turned it off and tried.
It seems to actually run better , i shall test this when @ home and have more time ,appreciate the suggestion!
Edit ; actually i tried a bit more it doesnt seem to have changed anything. Will keep tinkering and update this if i find something else - it seems when a lot of things are going on it slows down the FPS of the video
Hey,
So I'm on a stock 5.1.1 and updated to the latest Google Photos version, which I think screws with my devices HW acceleration. Basically , after updating I can't watch any HD videos without the frames stuttering, the screen sometimes blacks out in middle of viewing videos as well. Searching around I found that more people experience this, but it isn't that widespread. The problem goes away if I revert the update. Any help for additional workarounds would be appreciated.
Thanks
I was able to find another solution to this. With the latest photos app running, I went in to developer options and switched from NuPlayer to AwesomePlayer making things working smoothly again when playing videos.
If anybody can check what player they're running after updating the app and tell me if they experience video playback stutter with it, I'd appreciate it.
Seems like Google switched between default players on the different OS updates, I'm wondering if they've done the same and it didn't register or something.
Thanks.

This worked for me also. Nice to see confirmation.
After the latest Android security update, I rooted my Pixel 3. It is my first Android, coming from jailbroken iPhone, so I am still new to this stuff.
Before that day, when watching a video in any app, it would use the control scheme that is similar to YouTube app's. I would be able to double tap a side of the screen to skip 10 seconds throughout the video.
After restoring and rooting my phone, the video player changed to a much more simple one, with a seek bar, volume slider, etc.
Is there a way to change the default global video viewer at will?
I'm sorry, I feel like my question is vague. I can't find anything like this change on Google. I can post pictures if you guys need.
Thank you =]
Solved: reinstalling the affected apps were all I had to do.
I've had this issue for a very long time. I have tried different versions of MX player, I have tried the PRO version too and it always has the same problem. It also has this problem for me on multiple devices.
My subtitles do not appear on the screen when they are enabled. The only way to get them to appear is to bring up the on screen menu (menu with pause, play, skip)
If that on screen menu is up, the subtitles are up. Once that menu disappears after the couple seconds, the subtitles disappear too.
If I need to see a subtitle I have to bring up the menu, and constantly scroll through the menu so it doesn't disappear on me and I can read it. Very annoying!
Also, the on screen menu appears cut off as you can see in the picture. When you press forward or back and it skips the video, that message on the screen also gets cut off at the bottom.
I did the bug report but it wouldn't let me upload log.txt.gz the rest of the files are attached.
Anyone know how to fix this?
TiVo 4k stick
Android TV v9
MX player 1.31.3 (latest in playstore)
I have the same problem. It has something to do with video size, as the problem disappears when you set aspect ratio to manual and reduce vertical or horizontal by just 1 point.
I hope it gets fixed soon...
I have the same problem, I also bought an Mx player pro.
There is no need to send a screen shot, ThaDraGun showed and explained everything.
The problem is when the video format is smaller and I play fit to screen or stretch.
example:
- The original video format is 720p and I play it in 100% size - everything is ok, the subtitle is visible, the OSD time is correct.
- The original video format is 720p and I play it stretch or fit to screen to size 1080p - no subtitle, osd time in the half.
On VLC player I don't have these problems but I think MX player has a better user menu and setings, and I gave money for it!
EON Smart box (SDMC SDOTT0202)
Android 9
MX Player Pro 1.36.11 (ARMv7 NEON)
Top Right three dots -> Tools -> Settings -> Player -> Miscellaneous -> Android 4.0 compatible mode
Check this and then try
Of course I tried things like this, restarting apps and devices...
I wasted so much time trying to solve the problem. If the developers and creators of the Mx player had spent half that time ... they solved the problem.
To more help them diagnose the problem, here is another observation:
When the video zoom is reduced by only 1% or more, the subtitle appears.
The problem is not with the device, since everything works on the VLC player.
Why I try so hard to solve the problem with the MX player ?... maybe because I paid for it ... what a fool I am.
There is one ugly solution, which only tells us that the fix is very easy for the developer.
Try this:
Use the latest mx player beta (not the pro).
In mx player go to display settings/screen and check elapsed time and place at the bottom bellow it. Select black for text color.
With that setting, something will trigger UI and subtitles to be always on, so the problem disappears.
The downside is that you can see the portion of faint black numbers if the movie is without black bars, with black bars you won't see anything. In movies you had problem with, you won't see anything, but in movies that worked, you'll see numbers if it is without black bars.
Even that triggers my brain a lot and I hate it , so please fix this.
Thanks mate,
This also works on the pro version.
But like you said, this is a very ugly "solution" , it's not solution.
Congratulations on this idea, I hope you didn't waste many hours of your time like me .
MX player is a program for advanced users, it has many advanced options and settings.
Buy a Ferrari and then they tell you that you can't drive faster than 100 km/h ... then why a Ferrari?
Yes, the creators of the MX player, I compared your program with Ferrari, but only if it can go 300 km/h.
Try to fix all the bugs, you have a lot of them, but about them on another occasion.

Wow man...it worked! I swear I tried this before, but it didn't help, now it does.
It is just a little bit ugly solution too, we shouldn't be forced to use that, but I'll take it.
It works in latest mx player beta only, not in pro version, they must differ somehow, at least for me.

Like I said, this doesn't work.
I tried this on the latest version of the pro and regular versions (beta is not available for my smart tvbox).
Which device you have is very important?
I using the Samsung S series many years, and the last one is S20 ... I no problems with smart phone.
But on EON Smart box (SDMC SDOTT0202) Android 9 (one of the best) this does not work.
You can see that ThaDraGun has opened a discussion and owns a TiVo 4k stick Android TV v9, it is the same as any smart tv box or android tv.
For me and probably ThaDraGun the problem still exists!
