OnePlus 6/6T VS OnePlus 7 - OnePlus 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

With OnePlus about to release their most powerful device in just a few days, let see how many OnePlus 6/6T users are ready to upgrade to the latest model and how many users are thinking of spending some more sweet time with their current OnePlus handset.
N.B. Don't take this post in a different way. It's just for fun! We all know OnePlus 7 is more powerful than OnePlus 6/6T. This post was created just to see how many users are planning to upgrade and how many users are happy with their current model. So chill and give your vote or share your thought!!

I have the 256gb OP6. Personally I'm thinking of upgrading. This time I would likely go less on the storage as I now upload all my photos to Google Photos so never use anywhere near my full storage as I periodically delete the photos from my phone.

Based on the leaks I'm not sure it will have any of them. I've seen the OnePlus phones have a level of waterproofing but they just don't go through the certification. Not sure what they will do this time.
They won't come back from the decision to remove the headphone jack now and they have already spoken about not wanting to go down the wireless charge route because it's slower than wired charging.
If these are your must haves, I would look elsewhere.

doesnt look like a lot of interest in the 7 here...I'm not bothering either, nothing groundbreaking, worth spending $$$ on..

90hz display doesn't catch your attention?

maybe it would on a large screen monitor, but on a 6 inch cell phone screen? not at all..

I've got the OP6. Will probably upgrade. Not sure if it will be the OP7 or the Pro. I'm concerned about the pricing. I'm hoping they're going to surprise us and keep it a little lower than the leaks are reporting.. When you've got an $800 phone you're basically going to compete with Samsung, Apple and Google. Yes OnePlus is going to lose some of their core supporters if they make this price jump... I'm on the fence.. Gotta see what both the OP7 is going to cost and what the base OP7 Pro costs.

OP's only advantage in the market place was great value for the price; if they decide to price like Apple/Samsung, and many others, it will be the beginning of the end for them. No wireless charging, no external storage, no water proof rating, nothing that you cant get from several other phones, so, that being said, pricing this thing as high as it seems they will, is a major fail..
Cult following wont continue at those prices..

And no 2 stereo speakers...

yep, lacking that doesnt help either..although I am used to one speaker no headphone jack now a days..
but, still, for 800 bucks or more, it better have all of that..

so far from specs predictions oneplus7pro is trash phone,
without headphone jack (extremely important), wireless charging, waterproof ip68, and it seems like it will have moving parts (I'm very not sure about it, even I'm barely need front camera).
the only strong point to oneplus is third party devs support,
this one was the only reason me getting oneplus6.

well, I dont know if its "trash", especially since we dont even have one out to look at..
but, for the 800 dollars or so its supposed to be, without the above mentioned "features", its a no go, for alot of people..

I am, but that's only because my OP6 had an unfortunate meeting with the street and got run over. Otherwise, I was quite happy with the 6.

$800 for the Pro for a 90hz 2k screen? Hahahaha no sale!

Wtf.... That's only for the 7 pro... The regular op7 will be 60hz and not using the same screen as the pro

You would have to be crazy to upgrade from 6/6T to 7...
That's like those iPhone people who upgrade phones every time new model comes up... drink that cool-aid

I will buy Op7 or Pro maybe... if they have IP 68 or at least IP 67 on it.
Dont really care about headphone jack... but Wireless charging would be useful

Stop me from making a mistake.

You know whenever a new phone comes out you just start itching to get it,
Well it's that time again
OPO6.
I've had the OP3T and i knew what i was getting for my money, Camera is important, but not as important as development modding and whatnot... Which is what really attracts me to the OPO6 and oneplus again.
What scares me is the lack of support in the US... I cracked my OP3T screen and it was a nightmare getting it fixed, the opo6 is even more fragile now with glass front and back (no i dont' care for wireless charging btw)
Please stop me from making this grave mistake.
Just do it!

It's not a mistake. The op6 is the best value for your money phone hands down and it competes with any other $850+ phone. If I wasn't on Sprint I would heavily consider it
Why is this thread in the Note 8 section?
Wondering this myself. I was waiting for OP to say they had a note 8. For me that would be no contest. I'd consider the OPO6 a sidegrade at best and less popularly but for me anyways, a downgrade.
I will also buy it, I love the OnePlus phones much more than Samsung phones ^^

I'm guessing it got moved because in your OP you didn't mention you had the note 8. I agree, Samsung took a lot of steps to lock down the snapdragon note 8 and it hurts the development. I keep my original pixel around for when I want to screw around with roms, rooting, etc. Personally I think the OPO6 has too many trade offs I don't like. Glass back but no wireless charging, notch, no headphone jack, no ad card slot. But I can definitely see how an active development community can make up for that. The Huawei p20 pro calls to me often, as does the Razer phone. And I would have similar trade offs with those but an active development community.

I bought the exynos note 8 and still development isn't as exciting as it was on the OP3T forum back in the day
So,
I currently have
>wireless charging

and still don't use them at all. I have a sd card but barely use 5gb on it so internal storage ain't an issue ,
And i had a rugged case on my note 8 so wireless charging is blah

Sounds to me like you'd be losing stuff you don't need/want and gaining the community support you do want. In a world of $1000 flagships, the OPO6 is an unbeatable value for the hardware you get.
MF the note, get the op6 sir
Locked bootloaders and hamstrung development was what has kept me from Samsung in recent years. I have an S7 work phone and love the hardware, but the inability to cleanse it of Samsung bloat is grating. I stuck with HTC through three phones because of their dev-friendly approach, but the hardware issues finally drove me to 1+. My kid has a 3T and loves it even though he hasn't rooted it.
ik the feeling, I bought this one and I had the 5T which there was really no reason to, u just have to do it thought, I may sell my 5T so i figured i spent about 75.00 for the 6, so that is how i talked my self into it

Best Phone I have Ever Had But Last Purchase For OnePlus

As the title states this is one of the best phones i have ever used from the touch interface to the look and feel of the phone.
However looking at the oneplus 6t i will not be upgrading due to the loss of the 3.5 mm jack. I wonder how many of you feel the same?

for me i dont care i dont use it
but i wont upgrade
i dont see any improvment
an it has become ticker the new op6T
The Oneplus 6 was expensive but I somehow splurged since I wanted the headphone jack and an OLED screen on an SD845 phone ( I'd get a cheaper Xiaomi Mi 8 if I didn't need the jack ) .
But even though I plan to use the 6 for a long time simply because it's still around the top in performance, I won't buy another device from them. If I want a "jackless" phone, I can get a Mi 8 ( or the next Mi device ) for less money without sacrificing anything.
Oneplus went from a "flagship killer company" to a "what a flagship company should be".
Just because other companies charge hysterical amounts for, HONESTLY, toys which just have basic phone functions for the fun of it doesn't mean you should slowly creep the prices up higher even though the competition is keeping their prices reasonable ( a 100$ and in the future even bigger difference isn't a thing to scuff at ).
If the Mi 8 had a 3.5mm jack, it would be really hard to pick the Oneplus 6 without sentimental decisions especially when you'd take a look at the prices of both. Sure, the Oneplus 6 "has" water/splash resistance but you're doing it wrong if you expose a piece of tech to the risk of water damage in the first place.
In conclusion:
As much as I love the Oneplus 6, I don't think I'll buy another Oneplus phone. I don't judge anyone who will, it's just not my cup of tea.
If I hadn't already bought my OnePlus 6, I would seriously consider the 6T. Yes, I like having a real 3.5mm plug, but I like wireless charging even more.

No Jack no buy. Dont`care about, sensor finger, front sensor, face reader...for me is all **** fashion created to impress public.

No jack, no joy.

Exactly, they're hoping the indisplay fingerprint will help sell the phone. There's nothing else going for it.
After having a phone without the jack I don't want another with it missing. I still use it to often to not have.

What a let down.
Same for me. I totally love the OP6, but with the loss of the headphone jack, I don't plan on getting another OnePlus phone
I have a ton of reference headphones that I use and I like to charge and listen, plus who wants to carry a boat load of dongles around. Might as well buy a iPhone. So I guess I'll be giving this a miss until they come to their senses.
I'm in the same boat as the thread OP. This is a fantastic phone, with few shortcomings. The 6T would be nice if it had headphones and wireless charging. Even one of them would be nice. But it won't and it will be more expensive, and therefore not worth it to me.
I use wireless headphones so no 3.5mm jack does not bother me and not really bothered about wireless charging, but is this seriously the only major things wrong with the device.
Please world...stop the "headphone" jack posts...

Eventaully all new phones will not have a head phone jack.
I guess the choice with the 6T is vs 6, is bigger batter 3700mah. I hardly ever use the headphone jack so the bigger battery is probably better imo.

The bigger battery compensates for a slightly bigger screen and in In-display fingerprint scanner, because the animation for unlocking the screen will surely eat some battery.
As for me, I really don't like and trust the new fingerprint scanner. I'm pretty sure the whole unlocking experience will be slower. So, the OP 6 is the perfect phone for me for the next few years. At least until in-display fps gains my trust.
I don't mind the lack of 3.5mm jack, I barely use it. An adapter is fine to me.
I honestly don't know why they made a 6t. There's nothing significant enough for people to upgrade. Even if they would have kept the 3.5, there's still nothing worth upgrading for. Bigger battery is the only draw but the current 3300 last quite some time.
They didn't build the 6T for 6 owners. In the end, there is no upgrade - same CPU, same RAM, and the same screen.
I do not understand this rush to switch smartphones. Now that the appliance is stable. The T version is released at the end of the year, soon will come devices with the sd855 chipset, frankly, does not pay.

For those of you that were against downgrading to the op6t, whats next for you?

Just curious as I couldn't give up the op6 features they dropped. I'm sure I'm not the only one that kept their op6.
Nope never stayed with it but opted to go for it due to the features and the fact that I didn't like the in screen fingerprint reader. Due to the spec being pretty much identical to me it was a no brainer and glad I did too, I love the OP6
Nope I still have mine. Fast as hell, 9-11 hours sot update enough for me and good Dev community. No reason to update. I usually update once a year and sell my current phone to get max value back for the next phone. As of right now, looks like maybe the op7. I think buying the T version is such a waste. The 6 will have the sd845 for almost a year when the 7 comes out. The 6T will have if for 4 or 5 months and it's already outdated. Buying the T version of OP are for the foolish and get caught up in the marketing.
Even if same price I would have gone for the 6 I have. No regrets. Can't live without headphone jack and led even though I don't use daily. It should be a must on all phones!
Having been a OP owner from the very start, I'm seriously considering jumping ship next year in favour of the galaxy s10, particularly as the headphone jack appears to be still incorporated in the S10 going by latest news. Who knows, maybe the OP7 will blow us all out of the water with a surprise return of 3.5mm jack.

just got OP6 and got rid of S9+. Buddy, you don't wanna do that, you'll be disappointed. Trust me, I know I'm talking about, I used to have a lot of Sammy's phone's for years.
Next one probably will be OP7. But can't live w/o LED and would like to get back headphone jack.
After owning both the 1+6 is the better device in my opinion. In display fingerprint scanner was unimpressive.

Traded my s9 for a op6 and some cash. Enjoy that lag
Next for me is a phone with bigger battery, 30m full charge, with Snapdragon 855.
I'm assuming it will be OP7. But let's see if they implement the new and improved version of dash charged.
I would like to have the larger battery of the 6T, but I bought the 6 because not having an LED Notification is unacceptable. Also, I prefer the proven fingerprint scanning technology.
I had the oneplus 6 for 5 months and it still works really great!
I will probably switch to the OnePlus 7 when it comes out

OP doing that for McLaren edition of 6t. I would imagine the same suppose to happen to OP7.
I know.
Unfortunately the new charger is "only" 30W, not 50W like Super VOOC. And that's what I was referring to. Still good, don't get me wrong.
Now I doubt they will do any upgrade to the charging system on OP7.

Anything with a dev community and root access. Would like a 3.5mm jack and LED.
Stayed with Oneplus 6 came from Samsung S9+. Love the oneplus 6.:good:
OP 6T is a minor upgrade . lets see what oneplus 7 brings perhaps more ram new processor and maybe new display with camera hole.
Also waiting for Samsung S10 how it turns out . if price high then will buy 512gb Note9. It would be cheaper then.
Zerolemon battery case when it is released.... The 6t with the lack of led notification light, in glass fingerprint scanner, and no headphone jack really is a downgrade. One good thing about the 6t is that it made the OP6 cheaper.
I went from a Oneplus 6 to a S9+, then a Note 9, and now a P20 Pro. I've just ordered another Oneplus 6. The Samsungs were returned, and the P20 Pro may be also.
The S9+'s edge screen is annoying (always giving false touches on the edges) and battery is rubbish, the Note 9 was great but slow (due to the Exynos SOC).
The P20 Pro is probably the best of the lot. It's fine, only real issue is the front fingerprint scanner that I keep on hitting when taking the phone out of my pocket. No headphone jack is a bit "meh", would be nice to charge and listen at the same time in bed of an evening, as I did with the Note 9. But, that's not a deal breaker. The battery isn't fantastic either, compared to the Note 9 or my old Mate 10 Pro, better than the S9+ by miles, though. It may be difficult to decide between the 1+6 and the P20 Pro...have to see. If Pie ever came to the P20 Pro, I'd be keeping it.
I have both OP6 and the S9+. I will say the S9+ with PIE beta has improved the s9+ alot for me. There is no lag, no accidental touches, ect... battery still isn't as good as my OP6 but its better than it was. I still prefer the OP but it's getting harder to choose for me.

Atleast for me, forum seems to be full of people spamming, asking same questions over and over again, not using search. Also crying non stop about everything, having bought the phone for 150usd, and expecting it to be better than say Pixel for 1000usd. I also agree that community is bad. But development is good, a lot of custom roms, been using Pie rom Pixel Experience, runs like stock, no bugs, great performance and battery life. But if i were you, i would wait for redmi note 7.. much nicer design, a bit better soc, and probably better camera. And its gonna cost basically the same, well maybe 10euros more. Its not really logical buying redmi note 5 at this time, when you have newer devices for the same price. Even redmi note 6 costs the same and is newer, but the only upgrade on it is notched screen. RN7 is a real upgrade tho

My last 2 devices, were cheap ones from china, leeco le pro 3 and RN5, and in both cases community was way worse.. So i came to conclusion, the cheaper the device is, the ****tier the community is.

Its not a gimmick. Its a really good sensor from samsung, and it uses pixel bining technology. Combining 4pixels into 1, resulting in waaayyy bigger pixels and way more light coming in, resulting in good quality 12mpx photos. RN7 is a midrange device for a budget phone price. You cant get sd660 with all the other goodies for this price anywhere else.

Interesting. I can go with this phone but the glass back, not my cup of tea.
Yes it can be replaceable, but why add a glass back if your phone has no wireless charging?
Also i found a discount on a note 5 pro in my store for just 100 bucks. It expires on 17 january. So what should i do? Buy it or wait?

Because design wise it looks much more premium than aluminium. Also they follow design line of other xiaomi phones. They released mi 8 series with glass back, and if you look at mi 8 light, youll see its the same design as RN7. So, you get new, modern design, and design wise it didnt cost xiaomi anything, because research and development was already done on mi 8 series. If they released another metal phone, looking just like RN5, people would be crying non stop.. They already were crying, because RN4, RN5, RN6 had basically same design..

Well, 100usd is a joke of a price. For this hardware, its a bargain. If you dont need that extra 10% performance, better low light photos and more modern design, go for it. You wont find rn7 for 100usd thats for sure.

Alright. I will look and see what i will buy.
The Redmi note 7 seems once again to be a very good phone for the price.
I am very happy with the RN5, updates are regular and I don't matter about dumb people who are always complaining about nothing. I'm not ready to change because I hope Android pie update as announced on the forum ( perhaps increasing photo and video mode) , but I am a bit afraid to loose call recording feature which is a very important functionality for me. As far I know, Android 9 doesn't allow it andI hope it will be still there thanks to Miui.
This is my first Xiaomi and I'm really impressed by the great quality of this smartphone.

I am kinda skeptical about it. Besides, when it arrives in the globe?

Yeah its not worth upgrading. But if you are buying, it makes more sense to go for RN7.

Question Pixel 6a Thoughts

As a Pixel 6 user, I don't like it. The compromises aren't worth the $150 less. It doesn't even have the A-Series touches (headphone jack, rear-fingerprint, etc.) like the 5a did. Sure, it's a solid phone, but if you're buying a phone for more than a year, it's definitely worth the extra 33%. Then again people buy the iPhone SE and that's literally the iPhone 8 with the A15.

And is an especially bad device for Indian audience. 6A is the first pixel that we are getting after 4a. and yet with 60hz screen and subpar specs.
Me from previous years would have complained, because obviously we have much better phones for cheaper but I can't understand how, out of all these phone companies which keep popping up every day, only 3 seem to care about compact phones (Samsung, Apple, Google).
I wanted to gift my father a new phone, he's been using a Poco F1 and he hates every phone that is larger than that.
What are the options now? Spend more to get the S21/22 or the iPhone 12/13 or just get the Pixel 6a because there are no other options.
Personally, having changed from a Poco X2 to an S22, at this point, I feel like larger phones are overrated.
In conclusion, I'm not saying the 6a is good, definitely not at that price, but it's the only one that matches the requirement.

I went to Best Buy today to look at the phone. The size is perfect. I'm trading in my Pixel 6 which I hate for the 6a and they are giving me a $250 trade-in. So for 2 bills I get the phone I want not the behemoth that I have now. Your father will love it, it's slimmer and noticeably smaller in the hand. I'd get it from Google but they don't offer a trade in for the P6.
Google really said **** you to the Indian Market .

I'm buying it to upgrade my 4a 5g. Literally don't care about the bells and whistles. It's a high end budget phone.

I can't do that unfortunately. BB at $250 with free buds for a cracked P6 is still pretty good.

Not a cracked screen just a slight crack in the back at the bottom. Hardly noticeable but there nonetheless.
I think they should've put Gorilla glass Victus or 5 and a glass back panel cause they both are very common in all mid-range phones! I ordered this phone only for the Camera because I love Gcam...

From everything I have seen and from every Jerryrig video, iterations of Gorilla Glass are meh at best. Glass is glass and it will break and it will scratch at a level 6 with deeper grooves at a level 7. Shatter resistance improvements are marginal at best. Those fancy videos that Corning puts out are framed in the most ideal way possible. It's like taking a tall glass and slamming it on the table. It won't break because the bottom of the glass is reinforced. Take that same glass and slam it down on the lip where it is thinnest and it will shatter.
I just always get a glass screen protector and a case. Better safe than sorry and better have a phone than be without for days to weeks because of repairs.
I thought I would love the front thumb print scanner... but it is kind of annoying to have to press the power button first and then scan. On the bright side, there are fewer accidental triggers. But I dont know if that is worth it. Also, I miss the 3.5 headphone jack. :-(
Other than those things, it seems pretty similar to the 5a to me. Roughly the same battery drain. I am sure I will see some performance gain eventually. Just not noticing it yet.

I hear what you're saying. I had the Pixel 4XL and face unlock was amazing. I literally only had to pick up the phone and it would detect my face almost immediately.
You mentioned that it's annoying to have to press the power button first and then scan finger. You could set the phone to detect when you pick up or tap/touch the phone. That way, screen turns on and you can scan your finger without having to press the power button.
Update... this phone is in need of serious updates. I have lots of apps going non responsive and even the google assistant struggles. 5G is really bad and the GPS is occasionally confused. All around, I almost want to go back to my 5a.
The 6a feels cheap. I like the size of it, I don't care about 60 vs 90+ refresh rate, I wish finger print sensor was still on the back. The 6 and 6 pro feel great in the hand.
If I was going to buy a Pixel #A device, I'd get the 5A or 4A 5G. I wouldn't shell out for a 6a that's new. If I was to get a 6A, I'd wait a year and buy it dumb cheap used
Traded in my behemoth P6 (not even the pro) and will not look back. This feels great in the hand even with a minimal case which I use when I'm off the carpet of my home. The only thing that compares to this is the P5 which I never should have sold as quickly as I did. But I'm enjoying the P6a experience as of now.

Honestly it depends on what youre coming from. This is worlds more premium feeling vs the 3a and 4a. Never held the 4a 5g or 5a so I cant speak to those. I was also intending on just picking up a used 5a as I rarely ever buy the newest phone but the $300 trade in of my 3a + free buds was too good to pass up. The 3a XL was $479 new in 2019 and its no where near this nice or powerful.
Just my $.02 anyway
