Stop me from making a mistake. - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

You know whenever a new phone comes out you just start itching to get it,
Well it's that time again
OPO6.
I've had the OP3T and i knew what i was getting for my money, Camera is important, but not as important as development modding and whatnot... Which is what really attracts me to the OPO6 and oneplus again.
What scares me is the lack of support in the US... I cracked my OP3T screen and it was a nightmare getting it fixed, the opo6 is even more fragile now with glass front and back (no i dont' care for wireless charging btw)
Please stop me from making this grave mistake.

Just do it!

gonna use the tpu case they provide until spigen or someone comes out with something better.. i'll be very careful i promise

It's not a mistake. The op6 is the best value for your money phone hands down and it competes with any other $850+ phone. If I wasn't on Sprint I would heavily consider it

Why is this thread in the Note 8 section?

Wondering this myself. I was waiting for OP to say they had a note 8. For me that would be no contest. I'd consider the OPO6 a sidegrade at best and less popularly but for me anyways, a downgrade.

I will also buy it, I love the OnePlus phones much more than Samsung phones ^^

guys i dunno why this was moved to the opo6 forum, i had posted this in the note 8 forums.
I have a note 8, and i dunno it's development community isn't as large and active as OPO's

I'm guessing it got moved because in your OP you didn't mention you had the note 8. I agree, Samsung took a lot of steps to lock down the snapdragon note 8 and it hurts the development. I keep my original pixel around for when I want to screw around with roms, rooting, etc. Personally I think the OPO6 has too many trade offs I don't like. Glass back but no wireless charging, notch, no headphone jack, no ad card slot. But I can definitely see how an active development community can make up for that. The Huawei p20 pro calls to me often, as does the Razer phone. And I would have similar trade offs with those but an active development community.

I bought the exynos note 8 and still development isn't as exciting as it was on the OP3T forum back in the day
So,
I currently have
>wireless charging
>Headphone jack
>Sd card slot
and still don't use them at all. I have a sd card but barely use 5gb on it so internal storage ain't an issue ,
And i had a rugged case on my note 8 so wireless charging is blah
Bluetooth headphones i been using for yrs

Sounds to me like you'd be losing stuff you don't need/want and gaining the community support you do want. In a world of $1000 flagships, the OPO6 is an unbeatable value for the hardware you get.

MF the note, get the op6 sir

Locked bootloaders and hamstrung development was what has kept me from Samsung in recent years. I have an S7 work phone and love the hardware, but the inability to cleanse it of Samsung bloat is grating. I stuck with HTC through three phones because of their dev-friendly approach, but the hardware issues finally drove me to 1+. My kid has a 3T and loves it even though he hasn't rooted it.

ik the feeling, I bought this one and I had the 5T which there was really no reason to, u just have to do it thought, I may sell my 5T so i figured i spent about 75.00 for the 6, so that is how i talked my self into it

Thoughts on the V10. Should it have been the new N6P

If you look through some of the videos in this thread LG-V10 Lounge, one wonders if this was to be the N6P
I think not ....... nexus devices have never been ultra flashy ........ if anything the V10 should have been the G4
Didn't we learn that no one cares about auxiliary displays the countless times this has been tried in the past? They're irrelevant with the exception of flip phones.

Nah I don't think so. Google had 2 oem partners for this year for a while I don't think they brought Huawei in at the last minute to throw something together. In my opinion the 6P looks to have more development time put into it than the Nexus 6. And plus we had been hearing rumors they wanted to work with a Chinese OEM for a long time now

Correct however when the LG G3 first came out, there were rumors that LG would be making the next Nexus "super-phone."

lol, yes rumors This is the smartphone Google’s next Nexus phone might be based on
Seems these rumors panned out
For me the V10 has a lot of random things that I do not care about like the 2nd display, extra selfie camera.
They stuck with the same processor, camera and battery size. The battery size should have improved. The G4 had an amazing camera however the battery was not so good and the OS seemed sluggish.
Can the V10 camera app be ported over? The manual video controls are AMAZING.
I hadn't heard about the V10 until today, and I must say I'm debating my 6P purchase already lol. I mean, 2nd screen aside, I love the build and the video controls are incredible.
Interesting concept, but I feel like the V10 would have been too expensive to be a Nexus phone. However, the features this phone has, such as removable battery, SD card slot, excellent camera are all things I feel Nexus phones should have.

And instead Huawei should have got the smaller variant ?
working with Huawei ( a major chinese maker ) is important for google.
Huawei is known for making large screen 'phones' since a few years now.

That's just it though. Nexus 6 was $650 straight up with far less hardware then the V10. V10 absolutely could have been the Nexus 6P. Just take away the secondary screen and V10 is an amazing pure Android device that seems to be perfectly designed for Android 6.0.
Honestly I think I'm JUMPing from my Nexus 6 to the V10 next month. I'm tired of screen burn-in on AMOLED screens. My N6 has burn in in the soft key area and it's not even a year old yet. I'm not happy with Google not selling the new Nexus devices through carriers (after doing it for 6 years) because they instantly alienated so many Nexus fans. I'm tired of them not using hardware encryption, don't know if V10 will either, but if you talk up a feature and then half-ass it why bother with it?
Honestly, I find the styling and features of this phone more appealing than the Nexus 6P, but unfortunately, this phone will never get the same hype the Nexus will.

Also cheaper to produce.
this should have been the note 5. other than the chipset it's right on par with what the note 5 does. if it only had a stylus...
I'm upgrading my note 3 to this after buying nothing but samsung stuff (lack of carrier updates had no decision in my purchases. and I don't hate touchwiz. I liked samsung stuff up until they went igalaxy on us).
true that. I was so looking forward to the note 5. Then they took out the sd card and removable battery....and after 3 models in a row of buying notes, i'm looking elseware. I do wish it had a stylus, but honestly I almost never use it.
Should have been the G4 really

Who is satisfied with 5t and see no reason to move to 6 your thoughts.

So I have a oneplus 5t,currently running Frankenrom. The phone is blazing fast, dash charge, good battery life and struggling to justify buying the new oneplus 6,apart of course from an urge to just have a new phone. Who else is sitting on the fence and cannot justify leaving a 5t for the 6?, I mean even in terms of real life speed am quiet sure the difference will only be negligible as well.
I sold that MF quick before the prices dropped on swappa, ordering the 6 in the morning.

I had the 5T and I actually didn't like it that much. I had poor battery life and the vibration motor inside felt very cheap. Also, at the time, many developers were staying on the 5 and not upgrading, which left me concerned for the amount of development available.
That led me to sell the 5T and get a Pixel 2 XL. I just ordered the 6 as I feel more developers will also purchase it, but I will definitely keep my 2 XL mainly for its camera.
OP6 camera upgrade is worth it.
It is the matter of time. Do you want it now. Do you have some extra cash to sell the 5t and add some ? and get the 6?
Also, are you a flashoholic? If yes, wait a little bit because development will take a little bit to kick off.
Well, this thread backfired somehow.
Sell the 5T to get the OP6. Sell the OP6 to get the OP6T. Rinse, Lather, Repeat.
I still have my 5T from launch day. Development for it is excellent as a lot of firmwares are unified for the 5/5T. I wouldn't bother with the 6 simply for two reasons:
The 6T will be out later this year and will absolutely be an improvement over the 6.
By fall you will have more to pick from. Pixel 3, Razer Phone 2, OP6T, etc.

I mean, what did you expect would happen? A 5T owner, posted this thread in a forum designated for those who purchased the 6 or plan to purchase the 6. Low and behold, he isn't getting props for choosing to keep his 5T. If you couldn't figure out the outcome of the thred before even clicking on it, then I have to question your common sense.
If you want to see 5T owners respond by saying "it's not worth the upgrade", then you need to post crap like this in the 5T section.

Yeah, and by the time Fall rolls around, you might as well hold off for the next phones coming out in the Spring. And at that point you might as well hold out for the phones launching the next fall.... etc. etc.
Realistically, craigslist and swappa have made it very easy to sell our phones for nearly 85% of the value we paid for them, brand new. So if a 6T gets released that seems worth it, I'll sell the 6 and maybe lose $100 by making the switch. So, essentially I'll be paying anywhere from $100 - $150 to get a new phone every 6-8 months. I'm more than happy to do that. Constantly justifying a reason to wait for the next new thing is boring and I'm not willing to do that.
In fact, I just sold my Pixel 2 XL for $710. I was able to pickup the 6 as well as the Nylon bumper and still had nearly $100 left over. So even if I sell my 6 for $100 less than what I just paid for it, I'm still sitting in a good spot to pickup the next variation, whenever it's released.
I'm gonna hold onto my 5t until the 6t. Battery still lasts 2 days without charging and it's still stupid fast.
I think after 6t I will get into cycle of selling to get new model when it comes out. I am thinking every day how nice that 6 is, but I already told myself that I will stay until 6t.
If the xda rom support for the 6 is as good as the 5/5T then I'll probably upgrade from the 5T. Right now 5T's still sell for around 400 on swappa. But there's really no reason for me to upgrade other than wanting to have the latest and greatest lol. OIS is really the only thing that adds value for me. Although I'm in the minority that actually likes the notch, at least the way oneplus has implemented it

I think you missed the point of what I was getting at. Most people upgrade to the next generation of smartphones which is arguably marked by the SoC generation. I was implying that waiting to see the bulk of phones for this generation is advantageous to anyone with a previous generation smartphone looking to upgrade.
I'm not opposed to your solution of constantly reselling your phone's, but it doesn't come without its own problems which are not relevant to the discussion here.
Still on OnePlus One (and very happy with it), time to move to 6

Atleast for me, forum seems to be full of people spamming, asking same questions over and over again, not using search. Also crying non stop about everything, having bought the phone for 150usd, and expecting it to be better than say Pixel for 1000usd. I also agree that community is bad. But development is good, a lot of custom roms, been using Pie rom Pixel Experience, runs like stock, no bugs, great performance and battery life. But if i were you, i would wait for redmi note 7.. much nicer design, a bit better soc, and probably better camera. And its gonna cost basically the same, well maybe 10euros more. Its not really logical buying redmi note 5 at this time, when you have newer devices for the same price. Even redmi note 6 costs the same and is newer, but the only upgrade on it is notched screen. RN7 is a real upgrade tho
Ive been on xda forums since 2008 or so, and i would usually buy flagship devices for a ****load of money, and community was always nice. My last 2 devices, were cheap ones from china, leeco le pro 3 and RN5, and in both cases community was way worse.. So i came to conclusion, the cheaper the device is, the ****tier the community is.

Its not a gimmick. Its a really good sensor from samsung, and it uses pixel bining technology. Combining 4pixels into 1, resulting in waaayyy bigger pixels and way more light coming in, resulting in good quality 12mpx photos. RN7 is a midrange device for a budget phone price. You cant get sd660 with all the other goodies for this price anywhere else.

Because design wise it looks much more premium than aluminium. Also they follow design line of other xiaomi phones. They released mi 8 series with glass back, and if you look at mi 8 light, youll see its the same design as RN7. So, you get new, modern design, and design wise it didnt cost xiaomi anything, because research and development was already done on mi 8 series. If they released another metal phone, looking just like RN5, people would be crying non stop.. They already were crying, because RN4, RN5, RN6 had basically same design..

The Redmi note 7 seems once again to be a very good phone for the price.
I am very happy with the RN5, updates are regular and I don't matter about dumb people who are always complaining about nothing. I'm not ready to change because I hope Android pie update as announced on the forum ( perhaps increasing photo and video mode) , but I am a bit afraid to loose call recording feature which is a very important functionality for me. As far I know, Android 9 doesn't allow it andI hope it will be still there thanks to Miui.
This is my first Xiaomi and I'm really impressed by the great quality of this smartphone.

OnePlus 6/6T VS OnePlus 7

With OnePlus about to release their most powerful device in just a few days, let see how many OnePlus 6/6T users are ready to upgrade to the latest model and how many users are thinking of spending some more sweet time with their current OnePlus handset.
N.B. Don't take this post in a different way. It's just for fun! We all know OnePlus 7 is more powerful than OnePlus 6/6T. This post was created just to see how many users are planning to upgrade and how many users are happy with their current model. So chill and give your vote or share your thought!!
I have the 256gb OP6. Personally I'm thinking of upgrading. This time I would likely go less on the storage as I now upload all my photos to Google Photos so never use anywhere near my full storage as I periodically delete the photos from my phone.

Based on the leaks I'm not sure it will have any of them. I've seen the OnePlus phones have a level of waterproofing but they just don't go through the certification. Not sure what they will do this time.
They won't come back from the decision to remove the headphone jack now and they have already spoken about not wanting to go down the wireless charge route because it's slower than wired charging.
If these are your must haves, I would look elsewhere.

doesnt look like a lot of interest in the 7 here...I'm not bothering either, nothing groundbreaking, worth spending $$$ on..

90hz display doesn't catch your attention?
maybe it would on a large screen monitor, but on a 6 inch cell phone screen? not at all..
I've got the OP6. Will probably upgrade. Not sure if it will be the OP7 or the Pro. I'm concerned about the pricing. I'm hoping they're going to surprise us and keep it a little lower than the leaks are reporting.. When you've got an $800 phone you're basically going to compete with Samsung, Apple and Google. Yes OnePlus is going to lose some of their core supporters if they make this price jump... I'm on the fence.. Gotta see what both the OP7 is going to cost and what the base OP7 Pro costs.
OP's only advantage in the market place was great value for the price; if they decide to price like Apple/Samsung, and many others, it will be the beginning of the end for them. No wireless charging, no external storage, no water proof rating, nothing that you cant get from several other phones, so, that being said, pricing this thing as high as it seems they will, is a major fail..
Cult following wont continue at those prices..
And no 2 stereo speakers...

yep, lacking that doesnt help either..although I am used to one speaker no headphone jack now a days..
but, still, for 800 bucks or more, it better have all of that..

so far from specs predictions oneplus7pro is trash phone,
without headphone jack (extremely important), wireless charging, waterproof ip68, and it seems like it will have moving parts (I'm very not sure about it, even I'm barely need front camera).
the only strong point to oneplus is third party devs support,
this one was the only reason me getting oneplus6.
well, I dont know if its "trash", especially since we dont even have one out to look at..
but, for the 800 dollars or so its supposed to be, without the above mentioned "features", its a no go, for alot of people..
I am, but that's only because my OP6 had an unfortunate meeting with the street and got run over. Otherwise, I was quite happy with the 6.
$800 for the Pro for a 90hz 2k screen? Hahahaha no sale!

Wtf.... That's only for the 7 pro... The regular op7 will be 60hz and not using the same screen as the pro
You would have to be crazy to upgrade from 6/6T to 7...
That's like those iPhone people who upgrade phones every time new model comes up... drink that cool-aid
I will buy Op7 or Pro maybe... if they have IP 68 or at least IP 67 on it.
Dont really care about headphone jack... but Wireless charging would be useful

Oneplus 7 Pro or Oneplus 7

Anybody like me waiting for the Oneplus 7 to update?
Saw the 7 Pro in a shop today and it looks nice enough but the curved screen edges just waiting for damage. Oh and the selfie cam, if that retracts fully in time when dropped I will be well surprised.
The 7 Pro was right next to a Pixel 3xl and the screens looked very similar if I am honest for quality.
Anyway, wondering if anyone is waiting for the 7. No idea how OnePlus are going to market it now after pushing the 7 pro for so long.
Me too waiting for 7, not interested in Pro, at the price point they are advertising will gladly buy it

If yiu have a OP6 stick with it, in my opinion both zre not worth trading.
I don't like the size and the pop-up cam on the OP7P and the OP7 (like the op6t) ugly and no notification led

Definitely not the pro with all the ghost touch issues most devices seem to have. The upgrade just feels to small from the 6 so I'm sitting this one out. Maybe next year, or I'll just swap brand entirely.

Why would you want to swap brands? And which brand would you consider switching to? For me the op6 has been nothing but a positive experience. The op6 has everything I've ever wanted from a phone (besides the notch) but that's the only thing, and I can wait another year for an all screen phone no problem :good:
nighter ...
just wait fo K20... the OnePlus killer

Will know when I swap, if I swap
Op6 is treating me well, on thing is customer support that bothers me. Seems they only care for those that buy it directly from them. Even tho if you buy it from a verified shop they really don't give a F.
A friend of mine had big issues with his motherboard, but had to go back and forth over 6 months. All they kept saying was reset the device with the tool they sent him. And so he did. Issues were still there (random reboots, sensors messed up so temperature readings was off..) I'm not sure how much 30 resets will help. Eventually the shop he got it from took care of it as a DOA (after 6 months lol)
Interesting times coming up. Baffled how they are going to market it.
"It's good but not as good as the Pro"???????

I love the OP6. Im worried it will be the last good phone they will release. For me it depends on how much the continue on their new track of not giving the fans that made them what they are, what they ask for. And obviously if they lock anything down thats a deal breaker. And the bloat is really starting to creep in.
Asus Zenfone 6 all the way....
Seriosly thinking sell my OP6 and buy this one.....
Camera on OP (even 7Pro) is a joke.
It's really disappointing that they are no longer marketing to the people who built that brand, which are those looking for a good phone at a good value. They are getting a big head, like Google did when they killed the Nexus line and started selling the MUCH more expensive Pixel. Now they are coming back to making the "a" line, which is essentially a return to the Nexus model.
I really believe that OnePlus would be best off making the best phone that they can each year for $450-499 and a $550-599 "T" model .
I left the Nexus line for OnePlus and was going to leave OnePlus as well after the 5T until the OP6 went on Flash Sale on GearBest for 379.
However, perhaps that's just how I need to buy them from now on. I will wait until the next model comes out and wait for the previous model to go on sale.
So I think I will wait 6 months for when the new model is released around Christmas time and buy the OP7/7Pro.
I have been tempted to get the Pixel 3A XL but the OP6 is still a better device.
