I am thinking about ordering this:
http://www.amazon.com/G2x-T-Mobile-..._24?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1304350783&sr=1-24
But was wondering if I should spend the money and get a LG issued micro usb and car charger.
Anyone have experience with these chargers?
Hmmm that's alot of stuff for such a cheap price. Makes me wonder the build quality of that stuff. I might stay away from that. Just my opinion though. But to answer your question, I use a micro-usb cable I got from newegg. I also use the car charger I got with my MyTouch Slide a year ago.
First thing I thought was "too good to be true" and in my experience cheap stuff brakes stuff.
Yeah I think the quality of those accessories is probably quite low. If you want a good micro-usb cable I ordered 3 of these about a year ago and still use them today and they work fine on the G2x for data transfer and charging:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_re=micro_usb_cable-_-12-189-164-_-Product
I still have my micro usb charger I used for my blackberry curve (2 yrs old). I would assume that would work. I wonder if the old wall charger would work as well.
Those chargers are pretty much worthless. You need a high amp charger. The phone comes with a 1amp or 1000mA charger. If you buy a cheap charger that's 500mA for example you take more time to charge your phone. If the charger is really weak then you might not charge at all or even drop you battery levels while connected and using your gps in your car.
Note these are Blackberry and Motorolla OEM products that will work with your G2X. I use these and they are fine. They are both under $5 each at Amazon.

Cheap doesn't mean bad. All that stuff costs nothing to make anyways.
I buy stuff like that all the time off amazon.com.
I buy stuff like that all the time off amazon.com.
I can tell you you get what you pay for.
I buy stuff like that for coworkers and everthing is still working fine except car chargers breaking because of rough handling of the chargers. Evething else is alive and kicking.
If you decide to get it let me know how the car charger, Charges the phone, and make sure to post pictures because some times picture are diffrent from what is posted on the web.
I personally got this charger from T-Moble (granted, it was $30), 4.8v 1A... and integrated it into my car:
Code:
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/AddOns/Accessories/AccessoryDetailPopUp.aspx?accessory=f2105fae-0bb1-47f2-b53b-a8acc9e98c56&inCart=True&catCode=-1
I removed the LED since it's hardwired to the car.
Grated, if you want to move the charger from car to car it's not ideal to hard-wire it... but eh.
Be careful what you buy.
I ordered a Micro-USB cable from an Amazon vendor. It was the one in this package:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XGBBY6
Package seemed good enough. Good deal. The case was serviceable (I won't use it fulltime, but for what I paid, I wasn't expecting much-- it's good for putting my phone in for when it's in the car, sitting on the dash, so that it doesn't slide around while I get GPS maps). The car charger works pretty well. But the USB cable...
I was experiencing battery drain from my phone while it was plugged into my desktop PC's USB with the aftermarket cable.
The next day I tried it with the one that shipped with my phone from LG and it works just fine.
For reals, has anyone experienced battery drain with an aftermarket cable while it was plugged in?

Well typically USB doesn't have enough juice to power the phone while you are using it. It might in some cases but with WiFi, the screen, GPS, or whatever... you probably won't be charging the battery much if at all, and in fact might be losing power.
The same with USB chargers. The better chargers provide more power where most only provide the standard 5v (just like a desktop) so with heavy usage (GPS, screen, bluetooth) you might not gain anything.
I'm not sure about PC's because computers follow the standard of 5v and I don't think they will send more over the cable. A bad cable will have more resistance and probably not do as good of a job but overall should work.
The answer is any microUSB cable will work because it is a standard. Chargers (home and car) should provide more power to give it a faster charge.
Some Chargers are able to do "fast-charges" which I know the G2x can handle. I have a Microsoft Zune charger and it devastates my battery charge times. I'll be full in like 30min.
Typically batteries like a slow progressive charges though, which seem to last the longest. Oddly enough, I get the best battery life by charging my phone via my USB port on my Cable Box (haha).
As long as the charger's output is 5V then you're good. The higher the milliamp output on the charger the faster yourphone will charge.

My phone charges just fine when I'm using while connected to my computer via USB.
It's the amperage that counts when it comes to filling up your battery. I've used .5, .6, .8 and 1 amp wall adapter and car chargers. The 1 amp charges much faster but, if I remember my USB spec, that's all that was allowed until Apple came along PCs are typically restricted to 500 milliamps (.5 amp) so it's a little slower but still enough to charge it., even under use. I suppose if you have GPS seeking satellites and the display turned up all the way you may draw more than 500 milliamps but I'd be surprised.
EDIT: if you're really interested in this stuff, check http://batteryuniversity.com/ and https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Universal_Serial_Bus#Power
Little confused on what I need for my new phone coming Friday. Obviously, I have a host of Micro USB cables that I'd like to be able to use with my new phone. I assume there must be some adapter that is recommended.
I also need a cable to run from an Anker charger to my new phone.
Thanks!
Confused or not you really should spend some time reading through the other threads that are already here.
The situation has started to clear up quite a bit but all the info is already here.
I started to read through one of the threads but I just got more confused. Lots of talk about what wouldn't work and the one plus one cables being bad.
I'd be happy to research more on my own, if you could point me in the direction of a quality thread or post.
Thanks
Essentially, some companies are producing USB Type-A to USB Type-C cables that don't meet the standards set out by the USB Consortium (made up of Google, Apple, and many other tech companies). These cables that don't meet the specification could allow a device (such as your phone) to try to pull too much current from a charger, USB port, or USB hub and thus damage them. Worst case scenario, they cause a charger to overheat and start a fire!
SO, your best bet is to buy USB Type-A to USB Type-C cables directly from Google or any of the cables Benson Leung (a Google engineer) has reviewed highly. It doesn't matter if they're USB 2.0, 3.0, or 3.1 as the Nexus 6P only supports the slower USB 2.0 speeds and it's all compatible!
Are there any certified adapters or recommendations on something that converts a Micro USB end to a Type-C end? I'd prefer to just extend the cables I already have rather than replace them.
I sadly have not seen a verified adapter yet. You could take a chance on buying some that haven't been disqualified and test them with this app, and return them if they fail. Otherwise, some people are keeping track of verified accessories on this spreadsheet and someone might find good adapters.

I looked through his profile and all of the reviews he's done and none of the adapters have met specifications. You might be better off going with cables instead of adapters.
Thanks you were both very helpful!
All this info above is true. But just an FYI I've had my phone for about a month and only used the micro USB to c adapters (other than a couple times to test with the googled one ) since my case I got had the port too small for the Google charger to fit through and I've never had any issues. The charger or phone doesn't get any hotter or warmer. The phone does charge slower than the Google charger, but that's because the power adapters I'm using are about 1500mah bricks.
Just wanted to chime in that I was not able to get any of my microusb OTG cables working using an adapter. (2 different microusb F to usb-C M adapters purchased through Aliexpress) Perhaps I was just unlucky, though.
They seem to work for connecting to a computer. I also see videos from XDA's youtube channel where they use one of those adapters for connecting a 6p to a computer.
Strangely, one of the adapters shows that it's compliant through the aforementioned app!
The cables/adapters that are out of specification can work fine; but it all depends on how your devices, chargers, and hubs handle the incorrect cable. While you might get lucky and it'll work fine, you might also get unlucky!
Why take a chance? And why support companies that don't follow the rules?

It also baffles me why people are so willing to shell out $500+ for a new phone, but scream bloody murder when having to pay a little more for compliant cables / adapters / chargers.

While I went for the certified cables, most complain because we're spending 10+ on a cable we're used to buying for 4 or 5 bucks... For the longer cord.

Yes you have a valid point except that there are no certified adapters yet as far as I know. Which means for someone like me it's not about money, but it's about being able to use micro USB still since practically every other devices I have uses that still. Ie tablet, controllers, remotes.

We all have different scenarios. I like to have at minimum a charger in car, bedroom, living room, computer desk, bathroom with shower, work, kitchen and battery pack in backpack. I'm not carrying around an extra cable for each place.

I have a feeling that the Google chargers will be the best quality ones you can get. I have both of the Google chargers - the single port and dual port - and have had great results with both.
I saw a few type c chargers from chotech on amazon.com the other day. No clue if they are any good though.

Please refer to these 2 OP's for certified Type-C and Type-A to Type-C cables and discussion:

Anyone who owns a nexus 6p and has tried to buy a longer usb a-c cable than the 6 inch cable that Google provide will know just how hard it is to find a good quality cable that meets the new usb-c standard and won't potentially fry there charging device by trying to pull 3 amps.
Google prevent the usb a-c cables from damaging charging devices by placing a 56 kohm resister in the usb c end of the cable and many cheap cables have failed to do this or they use the wrong value of resistor, there is a simple free app that allows nexus 6p owners to check cables to ensure they are safe to use. I am happy to report that these cables pass the safety checks and are safe to use with nexus 6p devices.
These particular cables are very well presented in a functional box, the larger of the two cables comes with a Velcro strap to help keep it from tangling very handy if your traveling or don't keep your cables constantly plugged in, this is a nice little touch from Choetech and adds to the premium feel of these cables.
Both cables feel like they're thick enough to withstand alot of heavy use and will hopefully last a long time, I tested both cables with my laptop and was getting good data transfer speeds and I have tested both with numerous different chargers and also get good charging speeds, very comparable to that of the Google provided cable.
I am very happy with these cables and hope to get alot of use out of them, I would quite happily recommended these to anyone after a usb a-c cable, I have seen many cables that are dearer than this for just one cable, here you get two really good quality cables for a value price. I got these cables at a discounted price for a honest unbiased review but I would quite happily pay full price for these.

Have you by chance checked any other cables from usb-a to c that you have came across that you would recommend ? If you just use the app provided that means it is safe ?
Yes I also own a belkin 2m usb a-c cable that is very good but no better than the Choetech cables, the belkin cost me £15 though for just one cable as it was an emergency buy from maplins. I bought a cheap eBay cable originally, it worked with my old car charger but then my phone refused to charge from the Google usb c charger that night. A reboot fixed this issue but some research led me to discover the issue with usb a-c cables.
Because of the price and quality I highly recommend the Choetech cables.
Yes the checkr app let's you know if the cable is safe to use. You have to make sure it is connected to a computer / laptop for the app to work though, it won't work with a charging device.
I also get this cable bundle to review at price £0.99. It seems still available for review now. You can also apply one at a good price from Choetech official website: http://www.choetech.com/Support-review.html
I went for the 3.3ft USB-C to USB-A + 3.3ft USB-C to USB-C pack to go work with my Nexus 6P. Cables are a great length and I can leave it charging in the car while my passenger is using the phone at the same time. I am very happy with mine.

Yeah I also went for this combo pack. The cables are great and help me out around the house and in my car. The type C is in my car permanently from now on. Works great with their in car charger and charges the phone up in no time. The other one is in my work bag for emergencies. Definitely top quality products quality and worth getting.
This is my first USB-C phone, so I don't have any USB-C accessories yet, besides the included wall adapter.
What's a good / safe / less-expensive car charger (I'd need a USB-C cable as well). Preferably PD, but would be ok with 3 AMP USB C charging as well ( I believe the phone supports that).
Makeuseof.com has and article, which links a spreadsheet, in which it seems very few are even safe. I can't post URLs yet, but you can search for best-usb-c-chargers-whats-safe-whats-dangerous for makeuserof.com.
Any recommendations?
I see Walmart has an Onn 3 AMP car charger, with cable for $5 -- but feel like I'd save lots on the charger -- and waste it on another phone...
IMO, you don't need a big womping 9000amp charger for the Pixel phones with usb-C. Plug your pixel into the included 3 amp charge for 10 minutes and it can run for 10 hours. Even using an old USB2.0 port to plug in my pixel 3 and 3a, with google maps running, streaming music, bluetooth, and everything else enabled, the phone still is charging.
For the pixel phones, the best "charger" is get a pioneer head unit with android auto built in. They come with their own USB port. You'll appreciate the extra magic of android auto much more than you would appreciate some insanely fast charging while in your car.

I don't think that's the point. Even a 500mA charger from the original USB standard will charge it, the point is locating a charger that's optimized for max charge speed.
The P3a charger does [email protected], and [email protected] An old 2.1amp charger isn't going to get you that speed you want.

I don't think anyone here is looking for a head unit simply to charge their phone in their car. The average price of an HU with Android Auto is like 700+ bucks, nevermind installation expertise and labor, loss of integration with core car features, etc.

No need to overexaggerate to try and prove a point. Try $300 for name brand like Alpine and Pioneer with apple car play and android auto. Add another $55 for the maestro box and all your factory steering wheel controls and sub woofer still work.
I get it. You want to overpay for a car charger to charge the phone at warp speed even though it doesn't matter because 90% of your rides in the car will be over 30 minutes anyways. Just buy whatever one the Verizon store or walgreens is selling for 10x the price it should be so you feel better.

Alpine's offerings start around 500 bucks, Pioneer's cheapest is 450. Those are incredibly entry level head units too.

YOur last statement is incredibly ironic and hypocritical. In your words, "I get it, you want to overpay for a car charger by purchasing an entire head unit."

I bought this one and it works great. It was the Wirecutter's pick for usb pd car charger. I have a similar question on charging the pixel 3a in a vehicle.
My old phone was a HTC 10 which also use USB-C and rapid charging. When I purchased a third party Qualcomm 3.0 "universal" car charger with USB-C cable to use, the HTC phone would act funny and gave an error message that says "in compatible charger or cable". I then tried an old USB car charger and cable and used a micro USB to type C adapter to plug into the phone, and the phone would "charge" since I can see the battery indicator showing a charging action, but it will actually lose juice because the battery level would drop over time while I drive and the phone is unused (bluetooth off, location off, WIFI off). The only way I could get it to work is to insert an inverter into the cig port and used the OEM charger and cable. Eventually I gave up on the HTC 10 due to severe battery drain issues.
So now I have the Pixel 3a and wonder what type of charger I need to get. Will a standard QC 3.0 type C charger work on this phone, or will I need to be careful of which one I get? Anyone has recommendation for a legit charger that pairs well with this phone?
In addition, not to hijack this thread, but can I use again 3rd party wall charger for the Pixel 3a? I kept reading articles warning against using non OEM chargers. I need one for the office.

I just grabbed this one from Anker to use in the car. Having two 18W plugs means enough juice to rapid-charge my 3a and the wife's iPhoneX simultaneously. Only downside is both ports are USB-C, which means having to get additional cables, which I also sourced from Anker. Plugged in my 3a during this morning's commute and went from 50 to 90 percent over a 30-minute drive. Not too shabby.
A QC3.0 charger should work, but these ratings conventions are so all over the place at this point that I can't say for sure if it'll give you an 18W charge rate. In terms of compatibility, though, you should be fine.
Really, Anker has yet to do me wrong and that's where I'd recommend you source your wall plug if you don't want to use the one Google provided. Bonus points that they stand behind their products. Easiest warranty claim I've ever had to make; no second-guessing and they jumped at the opportunity to make it right by sending me a replacement cable when one of my older USB-B cables started developing a loose connection.
Hi,
I understand that the "Supercharge" charger is different to my Samsung charger (for example) as it supplies 40w, however can anyone tell me, is the supplied "Supercharge" type C cable any different from a normal type C USB cable.
I have a few expensive Anker corded type C tables, and I don't want to replace these if there is no difference between the "Supercharge" cable, and the normal type C cable.
Thanks!
I guess there is a difference between cables. I get "Super charging" with the original cable only. With all my other cables, phones says "Charging".
The cables are 5A cables. Most cables you find are not rated 5A. I bought a bunch of them in China and they works with other phones just fine.
Hi,
As told by previous posts, huawei fast charge 22W or 40W (maybe more with upcoming m30pro) only works with 5A compatible AND certified cables.
They're can be identified with the 'purple' color inside the connector - like the 'blue' in the 'fast usb DATA' standard 3.0 or above cables.
Usually they're (5A ones) also compatible with other 'quick charge' technology like samsung, etc.. except oneplus.
I've bought a bunch of them in China for good price (~2 or 3 usd) but be careful to check the 5A certification and avoid low-cost, it do not worth it... They'll not gonna worked or if...they'll be warm, hot or burn soon enough to regret the so little spared money between the certified ones.
The longest certified one I bought is 1,5m.
I looked for a 2m, but not working, but the cable sucked too.
May be a good fabric will do.
But keep in mind that for that kind of heavy intensity charge tech, size does matter... LoL... the shorter the better [emoji849]
I may wrong but the PD certified cables, v2 or v3 at least, could also work, because they aim to support 60W or 100W for the top quality ones.
But need to be checked.
Cheers
Edit : except it is a 'need' for 'now', I advise to wait for 2020 to renew your 'cable management library' with the USB 4 (if something change with this release) cables which will spread worldwide soon next year !!

I dont know about "certified" but all of my 5A cables work for supercharging.
I got this 2m one and it works fine.

I personally don't like fabric coverings as it feels like it will wear out faster.
I meant 'certified' like the 'build for' in a tech way, not like some others like lighting or hdmi which stand for 'have paid the taxes to be able to...'

Thanks for the share.
The bought 2m one was just marked as 'work with' and of course received without the 'purple' connectors, and no fast charge. marketing ≠ technique. I'll take a look at your link.
Cheers

Thanks guys!
Yeah, find it weird that the Huawei cables don't allow a OnePlus phone to quick charge...
I thought we were supposed to be steering away from this rubbish.

Do they really super charge or just regularly charge?
The main reason for doubting is that Huawei already complains about compatible USB headset which isn't from Huawei. I would guess they could easily filter out if the cable is Huawei or not. The USB cables provide some information (or IDs) which the interface could read. Therefore I would guess Huawei is filtering out what belongs to them and what not. If they do it on the headset why not as well on the charging cables?
Anyway... The q remains: Does it really work?
Yes really. It says supercharging on the screen and it charges my phone in an hour vs several hours
This cable works for sure
Got it recently and it does supercharge.
